  • SQL Server 2008 - Keyword search using table Join

    - by Aaron Wagner
Ok, I created a Stored Procedure that, among other things, is searching 5 columns for a particular keyword. To accomplish this, I have the keywords parameter being split out by a function and returned as a table. Then I do a Left Join on that table, using a LIKE constraint. So, I had this working beautifully, and then all of the sudden it stops working. Now it is returning every row, instead of just the rows it needs. The other caveat, is that if the keyword parameter is empty, it should ignore it. Given what's below, is there A) a glaring mistake, or B) a more efficient way to approach this? Here is what I have currently: ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[usp_getOppsPaged] @startRowIndex int, @maximumRows int, @city varchar(100) = NULL, @state char(2) = NULL, @zip varchar(10) = NULL, @classification varchar(15) = NULL, @startDateMin date = NULL, @startDateMax date = NULL, @endDateMin date = NULL, @endDateMax date = NULL, @keywords varchar(400) = NULL AS BEGIN SET NOCOUNT ON; ;WITH Results_CTE AS ( SELECT opportunities.*, organizations.*, departments.dept_name, departments.dept_address, departments.dept_building_name, departments.dept_suite_num, departments.dept_city, departments.dept_state, departments.dept_zip, departments.dept_international_address, departments.dept_phone, departments.dept_website, departments.dept_gen_list, ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY opp_id) AS RowNum FROM opportunities JOIN departments ON opportunities.dept_id = departments.dept_id JOIN organizations ON departments.org_id=organizations.org_id LEFT JOIN Split(',',@keywords) AS kw ON (title LIKE '%'+kw.s+'%' OR [description] LIKE '%'+kw.s+'%' OR tasks LIKE '%'+kw.s+'%' OR requirements LIKE '%'+kw.s+'%' OR comments LIKE '%'+kw.s+'%') WHERE ( (@city IS NOT NULL AND (city LIKE '%'+@city+'%' OR dept_city LIKE '%'+@city+'%' OR org_city LIKE '%'+@city+'%')) OR (@state IS NOT NULL AND ([state] = @state OR dept_state = @state OR org_state = @state)) OR (@zip IS NOT NULL AND (zip = @zip OR dept_zip = @zip OR org_zip = @zip)) OR (@classification IS NOT NULL AND (classification LIKE '%'+@classification+'%')) OR ((@startDateMin IS NOT NULL AND @startDateMax IS NOT NULL) AND ([start_date] BETWEEN @startDateMin AND @startDateMax)) OR ((@endDateMin IS NOT NULL AND @endDateMax IS NOT NULL) AND ([end_date] BETWEEN @endDateMin AND @endDateMax)) OR ( (@city IS NULL AND @state IS NULL AND @zip IS NULL AND @classification IS NULL AND @startDateMin IS NULL AND @startDateMax IS NULL AND @endDateMin IS NULL AND @endDateMin IS NULL) ) ) ) SELECT * FROM Results_CTE WHERE RowNum >= @startRowIndex AND RowNum < @startRowIndex + @maximumRows; END

  • SSIS - Skip Missing Files

    - by Greg
I have a SSIS 2008 package that calls about 10 other SSIS packages (legacy issues, don't ask). Each of those child packages loads a specific file into a table. But sometimes one or more of these input files will be missing. How can I let a child package fail (because a file is missing) but let the rest of the parent package keep on running? I've tried increasing the maximum error count on the parent package, the tasks in the parent package that call each child, and in the child package itself. None of that seemed to make any difference. I still get this error when I run it with a file missing: SSIS Warning Code DTS_W_MAXIMUMERRORCOUNTREACHED. The Execution method succeeded, but the number of errors raised (2) reached the maximum allowed (1); resulting in failure. This occurs when the number of errors reaches the number specified in MaximumErrorCount. Change the MaximumErrorCount or fix the errors. Edit: failpackageonfailure and faulparentonfailure are already all set to false everywhere.

  • SQL Query Help Part 2 - Add filter to joined tables and get max value from filter

    - by Seth
I asked this question on SO. However, I wish to extend it further. I would like to find the max value of the 'Reading' column only where the 'state' is of value 'XX' for example. So if I join the two tables, how do I get the row with max(Reading) value from the result set. Eg. SELECT s.*, g1.* FROM Schools AS s JOIN Grades AS g1 ON g1.id_schools = s.id WHERE s.state = 'SA' // how do I get row with max(Reading) column from this result set The table details are: Table1 = Schools Columns: id(PK), state(nvchar(100)), schoolname Table2 = Grades Columns: id(PK), id_schools(FK), Year, Reading, Writing...

  • Left Join Returning Extra Rows T-SQL?

    - by davemackey
I have the following query: select * from ACADEMIC a left join RESIDENCY r on a.PEOPLE_CODE_ID = r.PEOPLE_CODE_ID where a.ACADEMIC_TERM='Fall' and r.ACADEMIC_TERM='Fall' and a.ACADEMIC_SESSION='' and a.ACADEMIC_YEAR = (Select Year(GetDate())) and r.ACADEMIC_YEAR = (Select Year(GetDate())) and (CLASS_LEVEL LIKE 'FR%' OR a.CLASS_LEVEL LIKE 'SO' OR a.CLASS_LEVEL LIKE 'JR' OR a.CLASS_LEVEL LIKE 'SR%') and r.RESIDENT_COMMUTER='R' For each person in the database it returns two rows with identical information. Yet, when I do the same query without the left join: select * from ACADEMIC a where a.ACADEMIC_TERM='Fall' and a.ACADEMIC_SESSION='' and a.ACADEMIC_YEAR = (Select Year(GetDate())) and (CLASS_LEVEL LIKE 'FR%' OR a.CLASS_LEVEL LIKE 'SO' OR a.CLASS_LEVEL LIKE 'JR' OR a.CLASS_LEVEL LIKE 'SR%') ORDER BY PEOPLE_ID It returns only one row for each person. I'm doing a left join - why is it adding an extra row? Shouldn't it only do that if I add a right join?

  • Hidden Features of Visual Studio (2005-2008)?

    - by shoosh
VS is such a massively big product that even after years of working with it I sometimes stumble upon a new/better way to do things or things I didn't even know were possible. For instance- Crtl-R,Ctrl-W - show white spaces. essential for editing python build scripts. Under "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\VisualStudio\8.0\Text Editor" Create a String called Guides with the value "RGB(255,0,0), 80" to have a red line at column 80 in the text editor. What other hidden features have you stumbled upon?

  • How to model a mutually exclusive relationship in sql server

    - by littlechris
Hi, I have to add functionality to an existing application and I've run into a data situation that I'm not sure how to model. I am being restricted to the creation of new tables and code. If I need to alter the existing structure I think my client may reject the proposal..although if its the only way to get it right this is what I will have to do. I have an Item table that can me link to any number of tables, and these tables may increase over time. The Item can only me linked to one other table, but the record in the other table may have many items linked to it. Examples of the tables/entities being linked to are "Person", "Vehicle", "Building", "Office". These are all separate tables. Example of Items are "Pen", "Stapler", "Cushion", "Tyre", "A4 Paper", "Plastic Bag", "Poster", "Decoration" For instance a "Poster" may be allocated to a "Person" or "Office" or "Building". In the future if they add a "Conference Room" table it may also be added to that. My intital thoughts are: Item { ID, Name } LinkedItem { ItemID, LinkedToTableName, LinkedToID } The LinkedToTableName field will then allow me to identify the correct table to link to in my code. I'm not overly happy with this solution, but I can't quite think of anything else. Please help! :) Thanks!

  • how to create a subquery in sql using count based on outer query

    - by user1754716
I hope someone can help me with this query. Basically I have two queries that I want to "combine". I want the second query as an extra column along with the first query. The first one is this : SELECT t_Item_Storage_Location.Storage_Loc_Nbr, t_Storage_Location.Storage_Loc_Type_Code, Count(t_Load.Load_Id) AS CurrentLoadCount, t_load.MMM_Id_Nbr FROM t_Load INNER JOIN (t_Storage_Location INNER JOIN t_Item_Storage_Location ON t_Storage_Location.Storage_Loc_Nbr = t_Item_Storage_Location.Storage_Loc_Nbr) ON (t_Load.Storage_Loc_Nbr = t_Item_Storage_Location.Storage_Loc_Nbr) AND (t_Load.MMM_Id_Nbr = t_Item_Storage_Location.MMM_Id_Nbr) where ((((t_Item_Storage_Location.MMM_Id_Nbr) Between '702004%' And '702011%') AND ((t_Item_Storage_Location.Storage_Loc_Nbr) Like '%A') AND ((t_Storage_Location.Storage_Loc_Type_Code)='CD') AND ((t_Load.Active_Status_Ind)='A') AND ((t_Load.QC_Status_Code) Like 'R%') AND ((t_Load.MMM_Facility_Code)='MC')) OR (((t_Item_Storage_Location.Storage_Loc_Nbr) Like '%B')) OR (((t_Item_Storage_Location.Storage_Loc_Nbr) Like '%C')) OR (((t_Item_Storage_Location.Storage_Loc_Nbr) Like '%D')) OR (((t_Item_Storage_Location.Storage_Loc_Nbr) Like '%E')) ) GROUP BY t_Item_Storage_Location.MMM_Id_Nbr, t_Item_Storage_Location.Storage_Loc_Nbr, t_Storage_Location.Storage_Loc_Type_Code, t_Load.MMM_Facility_Code, t_load.MMM_Id_Nbr HAVING Count(t_Load.Load_Id)<4 The second one, is based on the t_load.MMM_Id_Nbr of the first one. Basically I want a count of all the loads with that mmm_id_nbr. SELECT count(Load_ID) as LoadCount, MMM_Id_Nbr, storage_Loc_Nbr FROM t_load WHERE QC_Status_Code like 'R%' and mmm_Facility_Code ='MC' and Active_Status_Ind='A' GROUP by MMM_Id_Nbr, storage_loc_Nbr

  • SQL Server problems reading columns with a foreign key

    - by illdev
I have a weird situation, where simple queries seem to never finish for instance SELECT top 100 ArticleID FROM Article WHERE ProductGroupID=379114 returns immediately SELECT top 1000 ArticleID FROM Article WHERE ProductGroupID=379114 never returns SELECT ArticleID FROM Article WHERE ProductGroupID=379114 never returns SELECT top 1000 ArticleID FROM Article returns immediately By 'returning' I mean 'in query analyzer the green check mark appears and it says "Query executed successfully"'. I sometimes get the rows painted to the grid in qa, but still the query goes on waiting for my client to time out - 'sometimes': SELECT ProductGroupID AS Product23_1_, ArticleID AS ArticleID1_, ArticleID AS ArticleID18_0_, Inventory_Name AS Inventory3_18_0_, Inventory_UnitOfMeasure AS Inventory4_18_0_, BusinessKey AS Business5_18_0_, Name AS Name18_0_, ServesPeople AS ServesPe7_18_0_, InStock AS InStock18_0_, Description AS Descript9_18_0_, Description2 AS Descrip10_18_0_, TechnicalData AS Technic11_18_0_, IsDiscontinued AS IsDisco12_18_0_, Release AS Release18_0_, Classifications AS Classif14_18_0_, DistributorName AS Distrib15_18_0_, DistributorProductCode AS Distrib16_18_0_, Options AS Options18_0_, IsPromoted AS IsPromoted18_0_, IsBulkyFreight AS IsBulky19_18_0_, IsBackOrderOnly AS IsBackO20_18_0_, Price AS Price18_0_, Weight AS Weight18_0_, ProductGroupID AS Product23_18_0_, ConversationID AS Convers24_18_0_, DistributorID AS Distrib25_18_0_, type AS Type18_0_ FROM Article AS articles0_ WHERE (IsDiscontinued = '0') AND (ProductGroupID = 379121) shows this behavior. I have no idea what is going on. Probably select is broken ;) I got a foreign key on ProductGroups ALTER TABLE [dbo].[Article] WITH CHECK ADD CONSTRAINT [FK_ProductGroup_Articles] FOREIGN KEY([ProductGroupID]) REFERENCES [dbo].[ProductGroup] ([ProductGroupID]) GO ALTER TABLE [dbo].[Article] CHECK CONSTRAINT [FK_ProductGroup_Articles] there are some 6000 rows and IsDiscontinued is a bit, not null, but leaving this condition out does not change the outcome. Anyone can tell me how to handle such a situation? More info, anyone? Additional Info: this does not seem to be restricted to this Foreign Key, but all/some referencing this entity.

  • SQL Queries SELECT IN and SELECT NOT IN

    - by Sequenzia
Does anyone know why the results of the following 2 queries do not add up to the results of the 3rd one? SELECT COUNT(leadID) FROM leads WHERE makeID NOT IN (SELECT uploadDataMapID FROM DG_App.dbo.uploadData WHERE uploadID = 3 AND uploadRowID = 1) AND modelID NOT IN (SELECT uploadDataMapID FROM DG_App.dbo.uploadData WHERE uploadID = 3 AND uploadRowID = 2) SELECT COUNT(leadID) FROM Leads WHERE makeID IN (SELECT uploadDataMapID FROM DG_App.dbo.uploadData WHERE uploadID = 3 AND uploadRowID = 1) OR modelID IN (SELECT uploadDataMapID FROM DG_App.dbo.uploadData WHERE uploadID = 3 AND uploadRowID = 2) SELECT COUNT(leadID) FROM Leads The first query is the count I need. The second one is to tell the user how many records were suppressed based on the contents of the DG_App.dbo.uploadData table. The third query is just a straight count of all the records. When I run these the results of query 1 + the results of query 2 comes up about 46K records less than the count of the entire table. I have played with grouping the WHERE statements with () but that did not change the counts at all. This is MSSQL Server 2012. Any input on this would be great. Thanks
