• 550 “Overwrite permission denied” when editing a file via FTP

  DreamHost recently moved my accounts to a new shared box, and now I can't edit files via UltraEdit's built in FTP client, which messes up my work flow! What did they do that this is not working now? It stopped working after they moved me. • SSIS – Delete all files except for the most recent one

  Quite often one or more sources for a data warehouse consist of flat files. Most of the times these files are delivered as a zip file with a date in the file name, for example FinanceDataExport_20100528.zip Currently I work at a project that does a full load into the data warehouse every night. A zip file with some flat files in it is dropped in a directory on a daily basis. Sometimes there are multiple zip files in the directory, this can happen because the ETL failed or somebody puts a new zip file in the directory manually. Because the ETL isn’t incremental only the most recent file needs to be loaded. To implement this I used the simple code below; it checks which file is the most recent and deletes all other files. • Front-end structure of large scale Django project

  Few days ago, I started to work in new company. Before me, all front-end and backend code was written by one man (oh my...). As you know, Django app contains two main directories for front-end: /static - for static(public) files and /templates - for django templates Now, we have large application with more than 10 different modules like: home, admin, spanel, mobile etc. This is current structure of files and directories: FIRST - /static directory. As u can see, it is mixed directories with some named like modules, some contains global libs. one more: SECOND - /templates directory. Some directories named like module with mixed templates, some depends on new version =), some used only in module, but placed globally. and more: I think, that this is ugly, non-maintable, put-in-stress structure! After some time spend, i suggest to use this scheme, that based on module-structure. At first, we have version directories, used for save full project backup, includes: /DEPRECATED directory - for old, unused files and /CURRENT (Active) directory, that contains production version of project. I think it's right, because we can access to older or newer version files fast and easy. Also, we are saved from broken or wrong dependencies between different versions. Second, in every version we have standalone modules and global module. Every module contains own /static and /templates directories. This structure used to avoid broken or wrong dependencies between different modules, because every module has own js app, css tables and local images. Global module contains all libraries, main stylesheets and images like logos or favicon. I think, this structure is much better to maintain, update, refactoring etc. My question is: How do you think, is this scheme better than current? Can this scheme live, or it is not possible to implement this in Django app?

• Cygwin - Repo with Separate Git/Working Dir Doesn't Work

  Since I've switched to OS X and Vim, I've found it easiest to manage all of my 'dotfiles' (all of my configuration files and miscellaneous scripts) with Git. Having already set up my dotfiles in a repo following this tutorial, I figured it would also be easy enough to migrate all of my settings into my Cygwin setup on my Windows partition. Already having the repo setup on Github, I simply clone'd the repo, and moved all of the files over to my home directory, making it a mirror of my OS X home directory. Unfortunately, I cannot seem to use the actual repo any further within Cygwin. The problem is that I cannot use my dotfiles repo with git within Cygwin. The setup is unique from most normal git repos, in that the working directory and the git directory are in different locations. Specifically, the working directory is $HOME (/Users/kyle on OS X, /home/kyle in Cygwin), and the git repo is $HOME/.dotfiles.git. So, if I wanted to get the status of the repo, for example, I would type the following command (which I alias to reduce typing, of course): git --work-tree=$HOME --git-dir=$HOME/.dotfiles.git status -uno While this works fine on OS X, this refuses to work within Cygwin. Regardless of whether or not I use my alias, or whether or not I substitute $HOME by hand, I get the following git error: fatal: Not a git repository: /home/Kyle/dotfiles/.git/modules/.build/git I don't understand where this error comes from, but the path /home/Kyle/dotfiles was the original location of the git repo when I initially cloned it. Additionally, it's important to note that the repo relies heavily on submodules. If specifics are necessary, the repo in question can be found on GitHub. The commands I ran to setup the repo in Cygwin can also be found within the Readme file.

  Hello, I'm having kind of a strange error that I'm trying to track down. I was trying to setup mercurial on my home server this weekend. I seem to have it running up to the point where I'm trying to get repositories published correctly. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Mercurial Distributed SCM (version 1.4.3) I followed the hgwebdir guide: http://mercurial.selenic.com/wiki/HgWebDirStepByStep and everything seems to work great, I can pull and push my local repositories. • Which httpd.conf and php.ini files does plesk use

  If i disable the include_path in /etc/php.ini, i can still see that there is an include path loaded from somewhere. I want to know where this file is. If i use phpinfo(); on my domain i get that there is a include path /usr/share/pear:/usr/share/php, even though in the php.ini i used: ;inlucde_path=".:" In the section for aditional php.ini files this is the list: /etc/php.d/curl.ini, /etc/php.d/dbase.ini, /etc/php.d/dom.ini, /etc/php.d/gd.ini, /etc/php.d/imap.ini, /etc/php.d/json.ini, /etc/php.d/mbstring.ini, /etc/php.d/mysql.ini, /etc/php.d/mysqli.ini, /etc/php.d/pdo.ini, /etc/php.d/pdo_mysql.ini, /etc/php.d/pdo_sqlite.ini, /etc/php.d/wddx.ini, /etc/php.d/xmlreader.ini, /etc/php.d/xmlwriter.ini, /etc/php.d/xsl.ini, /etc/php.d/zip.ini I have checked all these files but i can nowhere find a reference to pear. This said the /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf file is questioning to me too. If i check this file i can see the following values are defined. DocumentRoot "/var/www/html" <Directory /> Order Deny,Allow Deny from all Options None AllowOverride None </Directory> <Directory "/var/www/html"> Options None AllowOverride None Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> The strange thing is that i don't even use this directory, so where does plesk get his httpd.conf file from. I want to check if everything is ok, because my vhost.conf is not working. I don't know if i should change these values or not, and where i can find the values plesk uses. i hope someone can help me with this.

  I have Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS installed on a VMware machine on Windows 7 host. I seem to have a problem with Kernel headers when trying to install them I did: sudo apt-get install gcc make build-essential linux-headers-$(uname -r) Reading package lists... • Should I use /etc/bind/zones/ or /var/cache/bind/?

  Each tutorial seems to have a different opinion on this. For my ISC BIND zones, should I use /etc/bind/zones/ or /var/cache/bind/? In the last install, I used /var/cache/bind/ but only because I was guided to do so; however I just spotted a pid file in there for this new Debian install, so I figured that using the "working directory" to store zone files probably wasn't the best idea. It seems that many admins use this so they don't have to type the full path when declaring a new zone. For example: file "/etc/bind/zones/db.foobar.com"; Instead of: file "db.foobar.com"; Is obviously easier to type, but is it good or bad practice? Some may also suggest setting the working directory to /etc/bind/zones: options { // directory "/var/cache/bind"; directory "/etc/bind/zones"; } ... but something tells me this isn't good practice, since the pid file would be created there I assume (unless it's just in /var/cache/bind by coincidence). I took a look at the manpage but it didn't seem to say what the directory option was for, any ideas exactly what it was design for?

• OSX: Undeletable files

  So via what I suspect is a cron'd rsync gone awry, I noticed that I have ~25000 variants of .DS_Store in a directory that's on an external disk, they're named "..DS_Store.FOO" where FOO varies. The problem is that I can seem to delete them, even using the various tricks I've seen over the years for removing files with oddball names. No problem, I said - I moved all of the real files into another directory and then just tried to do an 'rm -r' on the original directory ... no luck, it fails to delete those files and says directory not empty. Tried it again with 'rm -rf' and still no luck. I have no idea how to get rid of this thing, does anyone have any idea?

I know how to list all files not accessed within the last x days using find and -atime, but what I'm looking for is to come up with a listing of the last access date for files one level down in directory /foo: /foo/bar1.txt Dec 11, 2001 /foo/bar2.txt Nov 12, 2008 /foo/bar3.txt Jan 12, 2004 For folders one level down in directory /foo, list the date of the most recently accessed file within the directory (no limit on depth for identifying last access date) /foo/bar1/ Feb 13, 2012 /foo/bar2/ Oct 11, 2008 Where /foo/bar1/ has a file modified Jan 1, 1998 and Feb 13, 2012 and /foo/bar2/ has 30 files, most recent of which was accessed Oct 11, 2008.   This problem already has been described mutliple times in different mailing lists, but no solution has yet been published. Please update the option trac.default_handler in trac.ini. I already tried a lot to get down to the root of the problem, for me it looks as if all nativ trac components refuse to load. When one explicitely imports these components in the wsgi handler, some of them start to work somehow. Since i suspected the virtual environment, i dropped it, and manually copied all dependencies (babel, genshi, trac, ..) to one directory, and added this directory to system.path in the wsgi handler. I get exactly the same error. Since this setup is now independend from the environment, one can easily try it out on any other machine (windows or linux) running apache 2 and python 2.7. On my Windwos 7 machine, i got exactly the same problem. I zipped together the whole bundle, one can download it from http://www.xterity.de/tmp/trac-installation.zip . • Nagios 403 forbidden, indexes?

  installed nagios under freebsd 9, but can't get the right way to be public in browser (from other pc's). I think that the problem is in the indexes or that there is not index file (instead main.php). Apache says that syntax is ok. The permissions of the dir are 777. The logs print Directory index forbidden by Options directive: /usr/local/www/nagios/. • Nginx location issue

  I'm trying to set a longer (30 day) 'expires' header for my (images only) in the /misc-stuff/ directory. This is what I'm using for my site : # Serve static files directly from nginx location ~* \.(jpg|jpeg|gif|png|bmp|ico|pdf|flv|swf|exe|html|htm|txt|css|js) { add_header Cache-Control public; add_header Cache-Control must-revalidate; expires 7d; } I want to be able to keep that code in to handle regular site images, but create a new block to handle the /misc-stuff/ directory. I have tried : location ^~ /misc-stuff/ { ... } The problem I'm having now is that my backup .php files in that directory show up as plain text if someone tries to access it. How do I set it up so ONLY .gif images in the /misc-stuff/ directory are effected?

• XAMPP: Access Forbidden!

  I just installed a fresh XAMPP on OSX. Apache runs and I can see the splash page. I open the httpd.conf and I set both places that point to htdocs to someplace else, which results in Apache showing an "Access Forbidden!" message. I plugged my directory here: <Directory "/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs"> and here: DocumentRoot "/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs" I have set the permissions to 777 for everything including the enclosing directory, but to no avail. Strangely, I just did this whole thing with MAMP and had no problems serving that directory, but it was slow.

Command: TYPE I Response: 200 Type set to I Command: PASV Response: 227 Entering Passive Mode ({}DATA) Command: MLSD The connection works fine, however no remote directory is selected, it shows as "/" however uploading any file fails. Any suggestions on how to debug this more?

• rm failing inside cron script

  I have a cron job calling a bash script which runs fine, except for one line inside it that is suppose to remove all fines in a directory. The result of this line is always 'no such file or directory' even though I have verified (many times) that there are files in that directory. The line in question is as simply: rm /dir1/dir2/dir3/* The script works fine when run manually in the terminal, so it must be something about how the cron is run. I've tried giving 'dir3' and all the files inside it every permission possible, so it shouldn't be a permission problem. (The directory and files are also owned by the user). I've tried specifing 'SHELL=/bin/bash' inside 'crontab'. There is no sticky bit set and there is no alias on the rm command. Interestingly changing the 'rm' command to 'ls' gives the same negative result (unless you remove the trailing '*', and then that works). What am I missing here?
