    Apress Books Introducing Visual C# 2010 - ISBN 978-1-4302-3171-4 Having read through parts 1 and 2 of this 4 -part book, I am very impressed by its practical approach to C#. I cannot improve on the by-line "Get started on your C# journey with an expert by your side leading by example" Adam Freeman teaches C# by precept and example. I suspect he drives a Volvo C30 as it comes up in many of the code examples!  Throughout the book there are numerous links back and forth so as to avoid overcomplicating the current topic. I have have no hesitation in recommending this book both to programmers starting out with C# and to the seasoned professional. It is a book that should be on every C# development team's book shelf. There are a few typographical errors in the book, one of which has already made it to the errata, however these are very minor and do not detract from the usefulness of this book.

  • Visual Studio 2012 Coded UI technology matrix updated!

    The Visual Studio 2012 support matrix for Automated UI Testing (Coded UI) has been released by Microsoft and the full post can be found here. Thank you Shubhra! There are a couple of items on the list that you should definitely keep your eye on. The first item is the support for Silverlight 4  and 5. This should make the Silverlight community happy. Basically I have most of the code set up besides one important feature. The Text Parser. Lets get into how words are generally structured. In the screenshot I input the command "my wish is for you to die" --How would a human understand this? my = noun/object wish = verb is = connective_equator similar to = for = connective_object (for all objects of ..) you = noun/object to = connective_action similar to do die = verb --the computer can then parse this and understand it like this (pseudo example) my = user you = get_current_label() you = "Lost Coatl" wish = user_command user_command = for all_objects of "Lost Coatl" do die() end execute user_command() What other ways do videogames use text parsers, what would be the simplest way for a newbie coder such as myself?

    I'm looking for a good tutorial for making resource files (*.rc) in MSVC++. I've been googling, and nothing has been useful in the slightest. What I'm looking for is a guide for how to actually write, manually, a *.rc file. Anything I have found so far, especially on MSDN, has only been about how to use the Visual Studio menu options to let it create resources for you. I'm not interested in that. Anyone able to help?

Ideally with a kind of lab environment where I could practice. VB.NET or C#, latest versions of ASP.NET, WPF and Silverlight. I would also now like to host a domain, I've been able to setup the virtual hosts so that the domain loads properly in it's document root however the rest of my applications stop working and point to the same virtual host document root of the domain. How do I maintain my existing setup so all other requests behave the same?

  • Mac OS X Sub Folders of Applications?

    Quite a hard question to phrase but I know there is an Applications folder in the Dock, above that being programs pinned to the dock, with a dot showing that they are open. Is there a way to organise these pinned applications into folders on the dock (such as 'Word Processing', 'Development' etc) so clicking the folder shows the apps inside and gives it focus when its open and the window is minimised the icon within that folder? So instead of having like 20 apps on the dock, you have 3 folders, with the apps inside?

    I'm having some problems with Edit and Continue when using Visual Studio 2010 on a Windows 7 64 bit machine. I've ensured the following Edit and Continue is enabled under ToolsOptionsDebuggingEdit and Continue My solution platform is set to x86 My solution configuration is set to Debug All my projects are building for Debug and x86 For all projects under ProjectsPropertiesBuild the Optimize code is unchecked When I hit a break point and try to edit I and confronted with the following message. This is happening for me for all projects that I create whether they are WPF/Win Forms/VB.NET/C#/.NET 4/.NET 3. Any ideas?
