• Is there a simple Load Balancer app for development environment on Windows?

  Does there exist a simple Load Balancer app for development on Windows? I am running a pair of JBoss 5.x instances in a cluster on a single machine. Normally , this configuration is load balanced by a nice hardware load balancer but I am wondering if there is a simple piece of software to enable load balancing in my Eclipse dev environment. Basically, for example, I want a load balancer running on port 11111 that round-robins between the 2 clustered JBoss instances on ssl ports 8443 and 8543 . (or http port if thats not possible) I know that Glassfish has a built-in load balancer but I can't use Glassfish. One idea I have is to try to setup a separate instance of Tomcat with the "balancer" web app. Im trying that now... not sure if it will work... and its a complicated setup and I wish there was something really easy.

• Building a new PC, Installing XP, blue screen of death

  I got a gigabyte barebones kit and am installing windows-XP(SP1) and the initial setup works, then it restarts and goes into the second phase of the setup. Then when installing components (I think that's what it says) it gets half way done and comes up with a blue screen saying IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. BUT! I had gotten past that by installing windows-XP media center addition Now I am trying to install the drivers for my Asus ATI Radeon 5770 graphics card and I get another blue screen of death that doesnt give much info something about address x0000005. Would you think there is something wrong with something in my system or do you think if I got windows 7 that would take care of things? Sorry for probably not giving enough info. • What is the easiest and cleanest way to create a chrooted SFTP on Centos 5.4?

  Hi, I would like to setup a SFTP with chroot (or equivalent) login to my Centos 5.4 server in a clean way. By clean way I mean by using only the YUM command if possible and with something easy to maintain and easy to extend (for example an easy way to add an extra SFTP user). The problem with CentOS 5.4 is that OpenSSH is at version 4.3 in the repository so it is not possible to use the built in chroot capabilities of OpenSSH 4.8+. Installing RSSH required to create manually a chrooted directory which don't seems easy to maintain to me. MySecureShell is an other solution but it require an higher version of openSSL than the one which is in the repository. I know that I could install manually an higher version of OpenSSH but I would lose all the advantage of the Yum command and it could become tricky to maintain if I want to do some updates in the futur... Do you have an easy and clean way to setup a chrooted SFTP login on a centOS 5.4 server? Thanks!

• Network Manager Applet menu freezes and does not respond

  Since the latest update in Ubuntu 10.10, the nm-applet has started doing some strange things. I boot up the PC, all is fine, internet works, etc... but after a period of time, approx and hour, the nm-applet menu in the Gnome panel fails to respond. when I click on the icon, the menu appears, all looks well, but when I select any option, eg DISCONNECT, nothing happens. Even the VPN sub menu disappears (no triangle to select the menu.) However I do not lose the network connection... If I Run this script: killall nm-applet /etc/init.d/NetworkManager restart nm-applet all returns as normal, for a while... weird? i tried uninstall/reinstall... I even reinstalled Ubuntu, but once the latest updates are applied this issues arises... Any help?

I want to use a Puppet to configure them and next try to setup OpenStack. I am not sure If I am understanding how this should look at the end.   Hay Guys. I'm using plesk with Qmail as an outgoing server. I've never used my plesk setup before to send emails. I usually use my ISP. I'm having a little trouble settng this up. I've created a simple email account, [email protected]. All is well, i setup my POP account in my mail client (apple mail) and i can receive mail. However i can't send any. These are the details im using smtp.mycrazydomain.com standard auth (i've tried SSL and non SSL) username: [email protected] password: mypassword However nothing has happened. Anyone got any ideas?

• Installing Sql Server 2005 SP2 - Getting error on analysis services component

  At first many of the components didn't install and I followed this workaround (fixing user/SID mappings in registry.) After that everything installed successfully except for analysis services. I am getting the exact same error message as before on analysis services. (Are there other users installed by sql server I'm not aware of perhaps?) Do you guys have any ideas? All of my searches seem to just point to that workaround above that I already did. SQL Version 2008 The task that 'succeeds' is setup as: Delete backup files Correct folder (same address as the backup task) File extension: bak (NOT .bak) Delete files older than: 20 Hour(s) I have other similar cleanup tasks that occur in the same maintenance plan which work fine. This plan has worked fine in the past, I just noticed that last night it reported 'success' and the rest of the plan continued, however the file from 2 days ago still remains. • Must I have Exchange to use Blackberry Enterprise Server Express?

  In the past I've setup BES (not express) for a company that just wanted their users on the corporate network, they didn't care for email or any other enterprise feature, they just wanted to push a policy that the phones internet should be routed through the corporate network. I want to setup BES Express now for a customer that also just wants the phones on his network but wherever I look, it says that BES Express requires Exchange. Is there a way to install BES Express without Exchange and without a AD Domain? Basically what the customer wants to accomplish is to be able to filter and log the internet access on the phones.

• Multiple audio sources on a single gameObject in unity

  So, I have an audio system set up wherein I have loaded all my audio clips centrally and play them on demand by passing the requesting audioSource into the sound manager. However, there is a complication wherein if I want to overlay multiple looping sounds, I need to have multiple audio sources on an object, which is fine , so I created two in my script instantiated them and played my clips on them and then the world went crazy. For some reason, when I create two audio Sources in an object only the latest one is ever used, even if I explicitly keep objects separated, playing a clip on one or the other plays the clip on the last one that was created, furthermore, either this last one is not created in the right place or somehow messes with the rolloff rules because I can hear it all across my level, havign just one source works fine, but putting a second one on it causes shit to go batshit insane. Does anyone know the reason / solution for this ? • Sonicwall NAT Policy Loopback

  I have an issue and am pretty perplexed over it. I have a sonicwall and its setup with NAT polices and reflexive nat for an internal web server. That is, only 2 policies, no loopback policy, and the internal clients can access the web server by public ip no problems. Now, on another connection, another sonicwall, i have the exact same setup for another web server, with exact same policies (obviously different IP's) and the internal clients can't access the internal website by its public IP without creating the loopback policy. Maybe on the first one I've overlooked it, but I don't see any loopback what so ever and its working fine. My question is, does anyone know why the first one works like this but the second one needs the loopback policy? Thanks

  OK, I am looking for some pointers. Basically I have a white-label app/site that will allow users to setup their own domain to use for their customer front-end. We have 2 dedicated servers and a load balancer. The problem is SSL, we were thinking about using AWS ELB to handle the SSL loadbalancing, but cant seem to figure out if it will properly handle it, it seems to be setup to work with EC2 instances, but we are using externally hosted servers via a loadbalancer. • Monitors - inches vs resolution

  I'm currently moving away from living five years only on laptop to a desktop setup. I'm currently browsing for monitors and I've noticed something strange. On my laptop I have 1920x1200 on 17". To get the same resolution on a monitor I have to get Dell U2410 24" or Samsung SM2443NW 24". I do not need (or want) 7" more inches of screen, I just want the 1920x1200 resolution. Why is this setup (big resolution on less inches of screen) available on a laptop but not on a regular monitor? I'm setting this as a community wiki beacuse I think that there is no right answer here...

• DAO/Webservice Consumption in Web Application

  I am currently working on converting a "legacy" web-based (Coldfusion) application from single data source (MSSQL database) to multi-tier OOP. In my current system there is a read/write database with all the usual stuff and additional "read-only" databases that are exported daily/hourly from an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system by SSIS jobs with business product/item and manufacturing/SCM planning data. The reason I have the opportunity and need to convert to multi-tier OOP is a newer more modern ERP system is being implemented business wide that will be a complete replacement. This newer ERP system offers several interfaces for third party applications like mine, from direct SQL access to either a dotNet web-service or a SOAP-like web-service. I have found several suitable frameworks I would be happy to use (Coldspring, FW/1) but I am not sure what design patterns apply to my data access object/component and how to manage the connection/session tokens, with this background, my question has the following three parts: Firstly I have concerns with moving from the relative safety of a SSIS job that protects me from downtime and speed of the ERP system to directly connecting with one of the web services which I note seem significantly slower than I expected (simple/small requests often take up to a whole second). Are there any design patterns I can investigate/use to cache/protect my data tier? It is my understanding data access objects (the component that connects directly with the web services and convert them into the data types I can then work with in my Domain Objects) should be singletons (and will act as an Adapter/Facade), am I correct? As part of the data access object I have to setup a connection by username/password (I could set up multiple users and/or connect multiple times with this) which responds with a session token that needs to be provided on every subsequent request. Do I do this once and share it across the whole application, do I setup a new "connection" for every user of my application and keep the token in their session scope (might quickly hit licensing limits), do I set the "connection" up per page request, or is there a design pattern I am missing that can manage multiple "connections" where a requests/access uses the first free "connection"? It is worth noting if the ERP system dies I will need to reset/invalidate all the connections and start from scratch, and depending on which web-service I use might need manually close the "connection/session"

  This function will download and install ,NET 4.0. It uses the Get-Framework-Versions function to determine if the installation is necessary or not. Internet Connectivity will be required as the script auto downloads the setup file (and sleeps for 360 seconds... I had a function in there to monitor for install completion at first, turns out the setup file spawns so many childprocesses the function just got confused and locked up -_-)Alternatively you could drop the installation file in the folder specified on the $folderPath variable too. That will skip the download and use the file. This function easily adapts in to other versions f.e.   We are trying to setup a redmine installation for our group which should work with both SVN and Git repos. Since we want to keep the repos on the server and avoid the whole privileges and hosting mess (root access, local repos, ...), we want configure redmine to manage repo creation and destruction by itself. In short, redmine should create a repository automatically for a new project and delete it if the project is deleted, with no extra setup steps from our admin. So far I found reposman for SVN and redmine_git_hosting for Git, but I am unsure if match our requirements. Are these the tools we are looking for or is there any other alternative? Thank you

• Running PHP 5.2 FastCGI + Apache on CentOS 5 issue

  I am trying to setup 2 versions of PHP on Centos 5.9 using this tutorial: http://linuxplayer.org/2011/05/intall-multiple-version-of-php-on-one-server. I have followed I have installed default 5.4.19, and I was trying to setup another 5.2.17 PHP version to be run with Fast CGI and I followed the second part completely. However, when I try to run http://web2.example.com it returns 500 error message. In the apache log there are only 2 lines that repeat: [notice] mod_fcgid: call /var/www/web2/index.php with wrapper /usr/local/php52/bin/fcgiwrapper.sh and [notice] mod_fcgid: process /var/www/web2/index.php(25250) exit(server exited), terminated by calling exit(), return code: 255 Please note that I had to add .php at the and of the FCGIWrapper because apache would not start without it: FCGIWrapper /usr/local/php52/bin/fcgiwrapper.sh .php Also please note that http://web1.example.com with PHP 5.4.19 is working absolutely fine. Please help. Thank you very much in advance.

• setting up rhel 5.x RPM build server for mortal users

  My task is to setup a RHEL 5.x build host, that can build RPMs for mortal users. On RHEL 6.x with rpm version 4.8, I have in /usr/lib/macros: # Path to top of build area. %_topdir %{getenv:HOME}/rpmbuild On RHEL 5.x with rpm version 4.4, the %{getevn:HOME} is not available. I know that I can use /home/someuser/.rpmmacros: %_topdir /home/someuser/rpmbuild and this will work for that user, however I don't want to do this for every user separately. Moreover, since .rpmmacro will not expand ${HOME} or ~ I suspect it is unsafe to use those. This in turn make /etc/skel unstable for this task (or so I suspect). So in short, my question is: How to setup RHEL 5.x host that allow all users to build RPM packages in their home directory?

• IIS6 Permissions

  We have a set of IIS6 Jakarta/ASP.NET applications (implemented as virtual directories) on a machine without a domain. The directories all exist under the default website. We need to setup the permissions so that certain users can access only specific applications yet others users can access several of the applications. The way it's been setup previously has been to explicitly deny access to the users for every application except the ones that they are allowed to see. The problem is that the list of applications changes fairly often (for demos etc) and it's been known for the developers to forget to deny the old users access to the new applications which leads to security problems. This is all quite unmaintainable. Does anybody have any advice on this? Surely I can't be the only person to find this all a bit of a mess? Thanks

• Running 32-bit Firefox with sun-jre in 64-bit Ubuntu

  I am trying to run juniper networks connect program to vpn into work and it only works on 32bit sun jre. All the things I have found with google failed so far. I can't use any scripts, like madscientists, as part of the authentication I need to provide some random characters from a grid. So to isolate this 32bit app install to a corner, I downloaded firefox and jre and unpack them to /opt. I run firefox with sudo as Juniper asks for root password. Here is Firefox plugins folder /ot/firefox32/plugins# ls -la total 8 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Mar 11 00:57 . drwxr-xr-x 11 root root 4096 Mar 10 23:48 .. lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 49 Mar 11 00:57 libnpjp2.so -> /opt/java/32/jdk1.6.0_31/jre/lib/i386/libnpjp2.so Firefox lists sun jre but when check it with "http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp" it either can't detect java or Firefox freezes Any Ideas? • Debugging / troubleshooting .inf driver install in Windows

  I'm trying to install a graphics driver in a laptop with Windows 7 but the setup fails with a timeout. I checked the setup log but it does not include any details about the .inf installation. It only shows the error code, which I searched only to find what I already knew (timeout error, no more details) I also checked the .inf file, but it has hundreds of lines so it's hard to guess which step is failing. So I'm wondering, is there some procedure to debug a .inf file? Like, having a detailed log of what happened after executing each line of the .inf Thanks!

• Cannot run setups from a vboxsvr mapped network drive on Windows 7 within VirtualBox

  I'm trying to run an application setup by double-clicking the setup.exe from within Windows Explorer. The file is located on a mapped network drive, and I'm using Windows 7. This results in the following error message: The specified path does not exist. Check the path, and then try again. The workaround I found is to copy the installer to the main hard drive (c:) and run it from there; however, this is rather inconvenient. The same action did work on Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista. I have the impression that the problem only occurs with installers, as everything seemed to work fine with regular exe's. Is there anyone who can explain this odd behavior? Update: After some extended tests I noticed that the problem only occurs with a mapped drive of VirtualBox's "shared folders" (cf. vboxsvr). Mapping an SMB drive works fine.
