• 3G/Edge/GPRS IP addresses and geocoding

  Hey all! So, we're looking to develop a mobile website. On this mobile website, we'd like to automatically populate a user's location (with proper fallback) based on their IP address. I'm aware of geocoding a location based on IP address (mapping to latitude, longitude and then getting the location with that information). However, I'm curious how accurate this information is? Are mobile devices assigned IP's when they utilize 3G, EDGE, and GPRS connections? I think so. If that is so, does it map to a relatively accurate location? It doesn't have to be spot on, but relatively accurate would be nice. Thanks! -Steve

• Apache2 Service started twice

  My apache2 web-server starts twice and wont bind, so i have to do this: sudo netstat -nap | grep 0.0.0.0:443 sudo kill -9 1243 sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart Is there any way i can make a script out of the code above so that i can run automatically on start up? I have Ubuntu 10.04, this happened after an update. • Is there a blog tool with support for tagging posts, only displaying posts with certain combinations

  What I want: A blog. I can tag posts, e.g. "A" or "B" or "all," and then you can either 1) click to only view posts tagged "A" or "all" or 2) even more ideally, I can set it so you automatically see posts tagged "A" or "all" when you log in. LaTeX support--I can type in LaTeX in the editor and it will show the math properly. No anonymous anything--must sign up and be logged in to view and comment Not as important, but convenient: Admin controls, e.g. detailed statistics, see who posts or views what when, control who posts / views, etc. Hosting: Ideally, if there's some software I can install on "my" own server, that would be ideal. But if we can't host it, it'd still be good to find some free (or maybe even paid) service elsewhere that would host the blog if it provided those tools. Any thoughts? I have no experience with this. • Centos Xen resizing DomU partition and volume group

  I have a setup like so: Dom0 LV | DomU Physical Disk | | XVDA1 XVDA2 (/boot) (DomU PV) | VolGroup00 (DomU VG) | | LogVol00 LogVol01 (swap) (/) I am trying to resize the DomU root Filesystem. (VolGroup00-LogVol01) I realize that I now need to resize the partition XVDA2, however when I try doing this with parted on Dom0 it just tells me "Error: Could not detect file system." So to resize the root part VolGroup-LogVol00 shouldn't the process be: # Shut down DomU xm shutdown domU #Resize Dom0 Logical volume lvextend -L+2G /dev/volumes/domU-vol # Parted parted /dev/volumes/domU-vol # Resize root partition resize 2 START END (This is where I get an error) "Error: Could not detect file system." # add the vm volume group to Dom0 lvm kpartx -a /dev/volumes/domU-vol # resize the domU PV pvresize /dev/mapper/domU-pl (as listed in pvdisplay) # The domU volume group should automatically adjust # resize the DomU lv lvextend -L+2G /dev/VolGroup/LogVol00 And then obviously increase the fs, remove the device from kpartx etc The problem is I dont know how to resize the partition? How do I resize this partition so I can run pvresize on the DomU? Thanks

• ERROR 0x8007007A when trying to schedule a task

  I am getting the error "The data area passed to a system call is too small. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007A)" when trying to create a scheduled task on a particular windows machine. The problem description is identical to that described in this Microsoft KB article I followed their steps to resolve: Stopped the task scheduler service (right-clicked "Task Scheduler" in the Services window from Control Panel and selected "Stop"). Restarted the task scheduler service Waited 15 minutes tried to schedule the task. But the error is persisting. To give more context of how we are creating these scheduled tasks, they are actually generated automatically from a configuration script (we run the script each time we wish to make a change). Each time this happens, it deletes all of the existing tasks and creates new ones. I don't know what else to try.... but surely there is some way to "reset" the task scheduler... How can I stop this error from happening.

• linksys Rvo16 redundant link config

  Hi All I have been given an RVO16 to play with. I'm multihomed and I'd like to set it up so that my primary, highest bandwidth link receives all traffic and the other connection is a hot spare basically. I want them both online but only the primary 1 used until it goes down then all traffic should automatically failover to the secondary link. Those of you that have played on an RVO16, can I do this and if so, how? I imagine I'd have it act as a router and pad the route on one so that the other is never used unless the primary is down.   I am using Mail.app (running snow leopard) to connect to my email account on my school's Exchange 2007 server. I get my Inbox just fine, and iCal connects to my Outlook Calendar just fine, but I cannot seem to get any of the Exchange Public Folders that I can automatically see when I am using Outlook on a Windows box. The Account Type is shown as "Exchange 2007" I did not have any luck Googling this problem, in fact most of the results I saw were dealing with the opposite problem: Remove MS Exchange Public Folders I am aware that my question is a duplicate of this: http://superuser.com/questions/103115/apple-mail-app-all-exchange-folders-not-visible but since that question did not get any responses, I am reposting.

• "setpci: command not found" in CentOS

  I'm trying to configure my Mac Mini running CentOS 5.5 to start automatically when power is restored after a power loss. I understand the following command has to be executed: setpci -s 0:1f.0 0xa4.b=0 When I run that command on my machine though I get bash: setpci: command not found. Is there a package I need to install via yum or something? I'm not seeing a clear answer via Google and I looked at the man page for setpci and it doesn't mention anything. Also, does this command need to be run every time the machine starts or just once?

  When using the windows command ipconfig /all, the result will show a PPP adapter followed by a long name closed with braces. It looks like the below image: When I try to set the DNS of my PPP adapter, I encounter this problem: netsh interface ip set dns "PPP adapter {1C43A7B0-1173-40E2-96D6-1DA6457786B0}" static 208.67.222.222 Invalid interface PPP adapter {1C43A7B0-1173-40E2-96D6-1DA6457786B0} specified. I have also used the pure string "{1C43A7B0-1173-40E2-96D6-1DA6457786B0}", but with the same result. How can I reference this PPP adapter, so that I can change its configured DNS and other settings? What does this long string mean? I do not have this PPP adapter connection on my "show all connections" panel, because I have a VPN app - when running it, this PPP adapter will be automatically created for me.

• Can I rebuild degraded RAID1 on a SAS 5 i controller with a larger mirror drive size?

  A drive failed on a Dell SAS 5i controller - see controller bios screengrab: http://imagebin.ca/view/SkZbszA.html The primary is a 160GB 10k sata drive. I added a 250GB 7k rpm drive in the hope that the array would rebuild onto this drive. This did not happen. (assuming that the controller would just operate at the speed of the slowest drive) The controller could see the new drive, but it didn't automatically rebuild the raid1 onto this drive. (my assumption is that it did not do this rebuild as the drive sizes are different). There was an option to add the new drive to the existing raid1 array - but when I tried this a message appeared stating that all data on the array would be lost. (I didn't get a screenshot of this message, I will later) Should the SAS 5i allow me to rebuild the array onto a larger drive? Is the option to add the drive to the array the right way to go?   Hi, I pardon as its not a programming question at all. But if anybody can answer this it will be usefull for me. In MS word 2007 I drew a textbox and entered some text. Then I right clicked on textbox and went to format shape Then went to TextBox tab and reduced the top internal margin to 0.1 cm. But still it seems there is too much space at the top inside the textbox. I am not able to position the text exactly at the vertical middle of textbox. If I choose the auto-rezide option in format Shape, the textBox size is increases automatically but the text remains exactly at vertical and horizontal middle of textbox. but anyhow I need the textbox to be small. This is very minor but annoying problem. Can anybody help?

• Delayed startup of network icon (wi-fi)

  When my Windows 7 Starter netbook boots up and after everything is loaded, it takes about five minutes before the network icon near the clock becomes functional. When there's an available wi-fi signal (which automatically connects to my netbook as preconfigured) after the boot, my netbook seamlessly connects to it even if the network icon cannot be clicked or accessed. (The icon is shown to be loading for about five minutes.) During this time, when I go to Network and Sharing Center, it takes the same time to load. So even while the icon and the Center cannot be accessed, I can surf the Internet. When my netbook was still new, it didn't have this issue. How do I fix this?

• Windows XP scheduled tasks and defragmenting?

  I am trying to set a seduled task to defrag my HDD on a regular basis and following the guide on http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/learnmore/tips/gehrke1.mspx. It does not work. That process only brings a DOS window which does nothing (well it displays some text about the Microsoft defragging program). I tried using the "%SystemRoot%\system32\dfrg.msc C:" as the command path that is in the start menu but that brings up the program to start a defrag job and doesn't start automatically. What am I missing?

• How Can I Automate the Backup of a Quickbooks Server?

  I have three computers: The first is the company file server which has the Quick Books company file, is always on, and lives in the closet. The other two are Quick Books Clients. All are XP Pro. I need a way to automatically backup the QB data file, without any user intervention. Quick Books has a built in scheduled backup utility, but from what I've read, it only works when the software is running in single user mode. (and obviously putting the server into single user mode defeats the concept of having a server). Also, I'm not actually running QB itself on the server, just the "QB Database Server" process that sits in the system tray. Surely there must be a way to automate this? I'm open to any ideas/suggestions. Thanks!

• ESXi 4.1 CentOS 6.X eth0 unnavailable

  I don't usually ask for help so directly, usually google have all i need but this time i'm seriously lost. Hope you can help me .s The thing is, i have a server with Vmware ESXi 4.1 and 5 already running and configured virtual servers, but whenever i try to make a new one on CentOS 6.X it leaves me without eth0 to be activated in any way. When installing CentOS, in the screen of localhost.localdomain i try by the button in the left down corner of the screen to make eth0 connect automatically but it tells me a NetworkManager Error: cannot start eth0. So...in command line once the CentOS is already installed, i have configured ifcfg-eth0 and manually tried to take up the eth0 but when i restart network service "Bringing up eth0: Failed" and sometimes even "shutting down eth0: Failed" Thanks in advance

• Proper application shutdown before windows xp auto shutdown

  I frequently leave the computer on playing a movie or downloading a file while I go to bed. I do use the 'shutdown computer when finished' feature of KMPlayer or getright or uTorrent or whatever program I am using. This method effectively shuts down the computer, but the problem is that there are some applications that seem to exit forcefully when doing this kind of shutdown, this being clearly reflected in winamp not saving the current playlist and config, messenger not saving the chat logs, etc. My goal here would be to have automatically close properly all applications when the auto/scheduled program triggers it. I am looking for some Windows shutdown mode/setting that does application closing like the user would do. I am not expecting to auto-click on save dialogs prompts, if this is needed I will do it before leaving the computer on for auto shutdown.

• Thunderbird message panes

  I have just switched from Outlook to Thunderbird and one feature that I am missing is when I would click a folder it would open a message in the message pane automatically. Now it is always blank. I have it set to remember the last one opened so if I switch back and forth it is there, but if I just click a folder the first time that I invoke it the message pane is blank. The reason I upgraded to 3.0 is because I saw this behavior in 2.0 and thought it would be fixed. I remember setting something in 2.0 that allowed this feature. Is there a way I can downgrade back to 2.0?

  I would like to use Selenium to test a web application but in order to do that successfully the tests must be run against a database at a known state. The recording and running of the Selenium tests is not within the scope of this website so I'm only looking for recommendations on how best to revert the database after each test execution.   This is not about backups, this is about archiving. For arguments sake lets say I have 2TB 7z file that I would like to archive to tape. I have 4 LTO-5 tapes ( 1.5TB each ). This may be a stupid question but what set up would I need that would allow me to drag and drop those files directly onto those 2 tapes and would automatically split the file accross 2 tapes like so: ------------------ | Copy 1 | | 1.5TB | ------------------ ------------------ | Copy 1 | | 0.5TB | ------------------ ------------------ | Copy 2 | | 1.5TB | ------------------ ------------------ | Copy 2 | | 0.5TB | ------------------ I just want to be able to specify which files go on which tapes as oppose to backups where the tapes just rotate. • Mac OS X, MySQL Preference Pane doesn't work

  I downloaded and installed MySQL 5.1.47 for OS X 10.6 using the DMG archive: mysql-5.1.47-osx10.6-x86_64.dmg I also installed MySQL.prefPane and MySQLStartupItem.pkg. MySQL.prefPane is a Preference Pane. The problem is, whenever I attempt to start/stop MySQL from the Preference Pane, System Preferences just hangs. It runs at about 50% CPU forever, eventually I have for force quit System Preferences. The same thing happens if I toggle "Automatically Start MySQL Server on Startup". Basically the MySQL Preference Pane is not functional. Note that I have no problem starting MySQL from the command line: sudo /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld_safe I have tried reinstalling MySQL and the Preference Pane. I'm using the standard installation location, nothing out of the ordinary. Every time the MySQL Preference Pane just hangs. I'm doing this on a Macbook Pro (Intel) running OS X 10.6.3. There are no old versions of MySQL on this machine.

The download is rate-limited by the host so it takes MUCH longer than the theoretical transfer rate based on normal Internet speeds. I had the idea of automatically spinning up n EC2 instances, executing the command and FTPing the files to a central location, then shutting down the machines. How would I do this? • Windows 2008 and Truecrypt: can't access shared folder called "media"

  On my Windows 2008 system, I've attached an external USB drive that's encrypted using Truecrypt. Once I mounted the Truecrypt drive, I share some of the directories from that drive using Windows file sharing. I tried sharing a folder called "media" and when I try to access that folder from a Vista client on my LAN via \myserver\media, I get this error: \myserver\media is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. An unexpected network error occurred. If I share the folder media under some name such as fizzbuzz then I can access \myserver\fizzbuzz w/o any errors. Any clues as to why this is happening?
