• Eclipse IDE's Hello World Cheatsheet seems to have a mistake

  Hey guys, Just a warning: I'm completely new to Java and am trying to teach myself Android programming. I installed the Eclipse IDE today and tried to walk through the first Java Hello World "cheat sheet," and it didn't work! I was really quite surprised. When it asked me to select the checkbox to create the main() method, there wasn't anything on-screen that looked like a checkbox with "main()" or "method" next to it, so I guessed that maybe what they meant was the "Modifiers" radio button. So I left that checked for "public." It didn't compile and I got red X's next to every folder in my Package Explorer. Has anybody else had this problem? Thanks!

  I have a SQL Server 2005 database with some Stored Procedures (SP) that I would like to debug...essentially I would just like to check variable values at certain points throughout the SP execution. I have SSMS 2008, but when I try to use the debugger, I get an error that it can't debug SQL Server 2005 databases. And I can't use the Visual Studio debugger (by stepping into the SP via Server Explorer) because Remote Debugging is blocked by our firewall, and I'm rightfully not allowed to touch the firewall. So my question is how can I check variable values at certain points in the SP execution? Is there some way to output those values somewhere, perhaps along with some text?

• Tool to Create Annotated Directory Structure Documentation

  I've got a moderately complicated application that has been developed primarily by me, and I'm getting ready to bring a few more developers in, and I'm thinking of various forms of documentation that might be helpful. I want to communicate information about the directory structure/layout of the project so the new guys will know where to look for things when they are getting started and as they add features, know where to put new files etc., so we can keep things organized and consistent. Is there any tool out there can create something a little more sophisticated than just a plain text document? I'm thinking of something that looks similar to Windows Explorer with a directory structure on the left in a panel and then when you click on a particular folder, you would be able to view some text or HTML that describes the folder in the right hand panel. Oh, and development will be done on Windows, but cross platform would be nice.

  Hello friends, In my project, I have so many .png images. They are working properly in Firefox but when I run my project on Internet Explorer, i get white background in that images. I have used some Image converters but they are also not giving the proper result. After converting, the resolution gets changed. So can any one suggest me some good Converter that will not change the resolution of image and will also convert the .png images to .gif images?   How do you change which item is “outlined” in a ListBox? See the following screenshot for clarification: Background: I want to have a standard multi-select listbox that works normally. Unfortunately, the Windows Forms ListBox (with SelectionMode.MultiExtended) is not fully functional. The missing functionality is that it doesn’t let you select a disjoint set of items by using Ctrl+Arrow keys and Ctrl+Space. (Try it in Windows Explorer to see how it’s supposed to work.) I am trying to subclass ListBox and add this missing functionality. To this end, I intend to respond to Ctrl+Arrow keys in the OnKeyDown protected method, but in order to do so, I need to be able to move the outline without changing the set of selected items. How do I do that?

All users are in the same OU and the exchange 2003 server has sp2 installed. Anyone might know why this is? Update: I figured out that if I disable and re-enable the Outlook Mobile Access setting for each user, the msExchOmaAdminWirelessEnable attribute shows up again for those users missing that attribute...weird..

  Hi, anyone knows an easy method to generate mail merge .doc file from Java? So, I want to create a Word (95/97) document in Word, put some simple placeholders in it (only single value, no iterators and other advanced tags) like the ones used with mailmerge option, and then at runtime replace those placeholders with values from Java. One option is to use Jasperreports, but this would require that I create exact replica of non-trivial Word document in Jasper format, which is not easy and is hard to change later. Is there some method of filling placeholders in Word from Java, which does not require low-level document alteration with positioning and others low-level .doc tags from code, but something like this: docPreparer.fillPlaceholder('placeholder1', 'my real value from runtime'); Some CRMs do this via ActiveX control for internet explorer, and it works great (they use Word's mailmerge) but I need an all-Java solution.   Hi all, Is there a way to enumerate all open file handles and/or registry handles in Windows Mobile 5 / Windows CE 5.x? In particular, I'd like to get the handles for all processes in the system, and not just the ones for my application. This would be similar to the list of handles in Sysinternals's Process Explorer for Win32 or Sysinternals's handle.exe I anticipate that someone will ask "Is this absolutely necessary for your application?" My answer to that would be "I think so, unless there's a better way to get a list of all open file names and registry key names." The goal is to provide diagnostic information about an application that crashes and fails to uninstall properly, but that worked properly at one time on the same device. (I do not have debugging information for the buggy application.)

  Ok, I see that people have asked this question before, but I'm seeing some conflicting statements. Can I, or can I not, connect directly to my SQL Azure database from SSMSE 2008? I see posts from before November that the SSMS 2008 RC would be able to connect directly - so I don't understand why the newest SSMSE cannot connect. Is it just a problem with the Express version of SSMS? Where can I find the "non-Express" version, if there is one? I can connect to the database via the cancel and connect method - however, you don't get object explorer that way. I see that there are add-ons for VS.Net to allow you to explore the database but I wanted to do it with the base apps if possible. Thanks

• very quickly getting total size of folder

  I want to quickly find the total size of any folder using python. def GetFolderSize(path): TotalSize = 0 for item in os.walk(path): for file in item[2]: try: TotalSize = TotalSize + getsize(join(item[0], file)) except: print("error with file: " + join(item[0], file)) return TotalSize That's the simple script I wrote to get the total size of the folder, it took around 60 seconds (+-5 seconds). By using multiprocessing I got it down to 23 seconds on a quad core machine. Using the Windows file explorer it takes only ~3 seconds (Right click- properties to see for yourself). So is there a faster way of finding the total size of a folder close to the speed that windows can do it? Windows 7, python 2.6 (Did searches but most of the time people used a very similar method to my own) Thanks in advance.

• Connecting to SQL Server with Visual Studio Express Editions

  I find it odd that in Visual C# 2008 Express edition, when you use the database explorer, your options are: 1) Microsoft Access 2) SQL Server Compact 3.5, and 3) SQL Server Database File. BUT if you use Visual Web Developer 2008 Express, you can connect to a regular SQL Server, Oracle, ODBC, etc. For people developing command-line or other C# apps that need to talk to a SQL Server database, do you really need to build your LINQ/Data Access code with one IDE (Visual Web Developer) and your program in another (Visual C#)? It's not a hard workaround, but it seems weird. If Microsoft wanted to force you to upgrade to Visual Studio to connect to SQL Server, why would they include that feature in one of their free IDEs but not the other? I feel like I might be missing something (like how to do it all in Visual C#). Thanks! Tom

• In Eclipse, how to open a file browser in the directory of the currently edited file

  Hi, I know it's possible in eclipse to open file browsers from your project's resource browser, but is it possible for files that aren't part of your project ? Typically external includes are not found in your resource browser... If there is the equivalent of $(resource_loc) for the editor, it would work.. But I wasn't able to find it. Can anyone help me on this ? thanks! JC EDIT : I Found StartExplorer, but it's a joke of a plug-in. It is hardcoded to use WINDOWS explorer or cmd.exe. Also, it still requires you to use the resource browser. Other than that it can open paths selected in the editor, but they must be full paths.

• Installing a source control without admin rights

  I'm forced to use SourceSafe at my job. There is no way this is going to change. I would like to use another source control for my own need in parallel. I want to be able to keep an history of my modifications, branch easily and merge. I can install any application that doesn't requires admin rights. I cannot install Python or anything that integrates in File Explorer. I'm not much of a command line guy so a GUI is a must. I managed to install Mercurial but not TortoiseHG. There is a chance msysgit would install but the GUI isn't very good. Any suggestions?

  Hi, I have a asp.net application in order to start/stop applications and ports of Biztalk server 2006 r2. I have used "Microsoft.Biztalk.explorerom.dll (C:/Program Files/Biztalk Server 2006/Developer tool) " to achieve this. This is working fine on development machine since biz talk server is installed on local machine. But in the production environment (asp.net web server ,windows 2003 and iis 6.0)...this give System.nullreferenceexception (object reference not set..) at BtsCatalogExplorer explorer = (BtsCatalogExplorer)myGroup.CreateInstance(typeof(BtsCatalogExplorer)) my biztalk server and sql server are on two different box. In my setup (asp.net web application)..adding Microsoft.Biztalk.explorerom.dll and Microsoft.Biztalk.Applicationdeployment.engine.dll to GAC. But still no luck. Do i need to install biz talk server on my local machine even though I am connecting to different biz talk server?? And help is appreciated...

  I am trying to create a dialog box that will appear only if the browser selected is IE (any version) however I get this error: Message: HTML Parsing Error: Unable to modify the parent container element before the child element is closed (KB927917) That's all in "Line/Char/Code" 0 so I do not know where is the error.   i am using movable type 4.23 (publishing system) and have been testing my site on a PC and discovered that internet explorer (IE) browsers are unable to view my site due to a conflict in the javascript of the signin widget (initially i thought it was in the mt.js file). i receive this error: "Error 80004004"...as well as in the Javascript itself: "Element is not an object" (or object is not an element?)... function mtUpdateSignInWidget(u) { var el = document.getElementById('signin-widget-content'); if i put in "id" where 'sign-widget-content' goes, it will say its not an object. all other browsers work perfectly (firefox, safari and opera on my mac and firefox on pc). if anyone wants a link to the test page, i can provide that... someone please help! thanks.

• problem with Chrome form handling: input onfocus="this.select()"

  I'm using the following HTML code to autoselect some text in a form field when a user clicks on the field: input onfocus="this.select()" type="text" value="Search" This works fine in Firefox and Internet Explorer (the purpose being to use the default text to describe the field to the user, but highlight it so that on click they can just start typing), but I'm having trouble getting it to work in Chrome. When I click the form field in Chrome the text is highlighted for just a split second and then the cursor jumps to the end of the default text and the highlighting goes away. Any ideas on how to get this working in Chrome as well?

  I am looking how to approach following problem: We have application that displays text with audio recorded material. We use Browser Control (Internet Explorer) in Delphi App to do this. We respond to events in Delphi code setting innerHTML for elements if we have to update the style ... Now, request is to add option to dynamically move the cursor or dynamically highlight the words spoken from the paragraph. It doesn't need to match absolutely the exact word spoken so we will have to dynamically update the content of position of highlighted word based on some timer or something (because it is not text to speach). What should be the most practical and easy approach to this kind of problem, all answers are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
