• AnkhSVN: moving a project to another repo

  My task is to move this VS solution and projects to another SVN server. I'm working with Visual Studio 2010 RC1 and AnkhSVN 2.1.7819.... Currently the files are all bound to a repo at C:\Repositories\foo. I'd like to move it to http://someSite/svn/foo I'm presented with this error message: Repository UUID '152c39db-5799-4234-85f2-074004a6fcad' doesn't match expected UUID '6c83444d-7f93-d64a-b0a0-23283495cf17' Questions How can I avoid this message in AnkhSVN? Are there better solutions for moving the source into a repo on the new target? How can I get Ankh to 'forget' that repo at C:\Repositories\ forever?

• Need advice on speeding up tableViewCell photo loading performance

  I have around 20 tableview cells that each contain a number (2-5) thumbnail sized pictures (they are VERY small Facebook profile pictures, ex. http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/hprofile-ak-sf2p/hs254.snc3/23133_201668_2989_q.jpg). Each picture is an UIImageView added to the cell's contentview. Scrolling performance is poor, and measuring the draw time I've found the UIImage rendering is the bottleneck. I've researched/thought of some solutions but as I am new to iphone development I am not sure which strategy to pursue: preload all the images and retrieve them from disk instead of URL when drawing cells (I'm not sure if cell drawing will still be slow, so I want to hold off on the time investment here) Have the cells display a placeholder image from disk, while the picture is asynchronously loaded (this seems to be the best solution, but I'm currently not sure exactly how to do best do this) There's the fast drawing recommendation from Tweetie, but I don't know that will have much affect if it turns out my overhead is in network loading (http://blog.atebits.com/2008/12/fast-scrolling-in-tweetie-with-uitableview/) Thoughts/implementation advice? • jquery ui dialog fixed positioning

  Hi, I needed the dialog to maintain its position fixed even if the page scrolled, so i used the extension at http://forum.jquery.com/topic/dialog-position-fixed-12-1-2010 but there's 2 problems with it: it flickers in IE and Firefox on page scroll (in Safari/Chrome it's fine) on closing and then reopening, it looses its stickyness and scrolls along with the page.   Hi designers/developers, I am looking for a way of graphically showing a countdown. I am working for a large Hospital and have written an Ambulance page that shows ambulance arriving in a datagrid with the time of arriving at the hospital in minutes and seconds (plus other info).   Hi, I need to test if various file types exist in a directory. I've tried $ [ -f *.$fileext] where fileext is the file extension but that does not seem to work. • Outputting a bar chart to an iPhone application?

  Right, I really want to output a Bar Graph to an Obj-C iPhone application - now I may be missing a vital SDK class or something; but right now my solution is to embed a WebView and inside that have a JQuery/Flot based graph - not totally ideal I know! Just wondering if anybody has any other creative solutions or whether a WebView/AJAX solution is the way to go? (For the record; my data source will be figures returned from an external source - i.e downloaded from the internet. So I was even toying with having a PHP Proxy/script do all the work on that, return the figures AND a graph to the application - but then I risk placing extra strain on the server!)

• Assign binding path at runtime in WPF DataTemplate

  I am writing a WPF program in C# in which I have a ListView for which the columns will be populated at runtime. I would like to use a custom DataTemplate for the GridViewColumn objects in the ListView. In the examples I have seen where the number of columns is fixed in advance, a custom DataTemplate is often created using something like the XAML below. <DataTemplate x:Key="someKey"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=FirstName}" /> </DataTemplate> This DataTemplate could also later be assigned to GridViewColumn.CellTemplate in the code-behind by calling FindResource("someKey"). However, this alone is of no use to me, because in this example the Path element is fixed to FirstName. Really I need something where I can set the Path in code. It is my impression that something along these lines may be possible if XamlReader is used, but I'm not sure how in practice I would do this. Any solutions are greatly appreciated.

  I'm in the process of writing a python module that includes some samples. These samples aren't unit-tests, and they are too long and complex to be doctests. I'm interested in best practices for automatically checking that these samples run. My current project layout is pretty standard, except that there is an extra top level makefile that has build, install, unittest, coverage and profile targets, that delegate responsibility to setup.py and nose as required. projectname/ Makefile README setup.py samples/ foo-sample foobar-sample projectname/ __init__.py foo.py bar.py tests/ test-foo.py test-bar.py I've considered adding a sampletest module, or adding nose.tools.istest decorators to the entry-point functions of the samples, but for a small number of samples, these solutions sound a bit ugly.   I need to find the highest value from the database that satisfies a certain formatting convention. Specifically, I would like to fund the highest value that looks like EU999999 ('9' being any digit) select max(col) will return something like 'EUZ...' for instance that I want to exclude. The following query does the trick, but I can't produce this via Linq-to-SQL. There seems to be no translation for the isnumeric() function in SQL Server. select max(col) from table where col like 'EU%' and 1=isnumeric(replace(col, 'EU', '')) Writing a database function, stored procedure, or anything else of that nature is far down the list of my preferred solutions, because this table is central to my app and I cannot easily replace the table object with something else. What's the next-best solution?

• PHP to C/C++ through CGI script

  Hi guys! I realize it's probably something strange, but here is what I have. I have an application (handwriting recognition engine) written in C/C++. This application has Perl wrapper which was made by application's authors using SWIG. My website is written in PHP, so I'm looking for some ways to make PHP work with C/C++ application. The only way I can think of now is to create a CGI script (perl script) which accepts POST request from my website (AJAX request), sends it to the recognition engine through it's Perl wrapper, gets the required data and returns the required data as a response to AJAX request. Do you think it could be done this way? Are there any better solutions? Thank you!

• I've Heard Global Variables Are Bad, What Alternative Solution Should I Use?

  I've read all over the place that global variables are bad and alternatives should be used. In Javascript specifically, what solution should I choose. I'm thinking of a function, that when fed two arguments (function globalVariables(Variable,Value)) looks if Variable exists in a local array and if it does set it's value to Value, else, Variable and Value are appended. If the function is called without arguments (function globalVariables()) it returns the array. Perhaps if the function is fired with just one argument (function globalVariables(Variable)) it returns the value of Variable in the array. What do you think? I'd like to hear your alternative solutions and arguments for using global variables.

  One of my friend is working on issue related to updating expired digital certificates. He is working on Java application(Swings I guess), which has 4000 clients. All those need a digital certificate to connect to the application and this certificate expires every year. At the end of year he needs to update the certificate credentials for all clients. Currently this is manual process, done by connecting to each of 4000 systems either locally or by remote connection. He is got task to convert this process to be an automated process. • Programmatic DNS

  I'm a long time developer but not very experienced with DNS. Here's my problem: Our app launches servers on Amazon EC2 for clients. One client wants to use custom DNS's for every server launched instead of the normal long public DNS provided by AWS: for example server-5.demo.ourclient.com, server-6.demo.ourclient.com. What's the easiest/cleanest/best way to solve this challenge from inside our application that launches the servers and knows the Amazon public DNS? We can probably get control of demo.ourclient.com as well.... Are there nice hosted solutions with API's? Would we need to manage a DNS server for *.demo.ourclient.com? Thanks! Chad

  The type or namespace name 'Resources' does not exist in the namespace 'MyWebProject.Web' (are you missing an assembly reference?) C:\Users\...\MySecondProject\Generated_Code\MyWebProject.Web.g.cs I am having some problems trying to add a second SL client project to my (Ria services) SL Business Application. It has to do with the way the shared Resources files on the Web project are linked to from my new SL client project (the SL client project that was generated by the Business App template works fine). The same problem was brought up in the SL forums but copying the Web folder from my existing SL client doesn't seem to work. How can I add a second SL client project using RIA services to the solution of an existing SL Business Application without these problems over shared resources? Should I avoid the Business Application solution template for solutions with multiple SL clients since it seems to presume only a single client app will be sharing the resource files?

• Get seconds since epoch in any POSIX compliant shell

  I'd like to know if there's a way to get the number of seconds since the UNIX epoch in any POSIX compliant shell, without resorting to non-POSIX languages like perl, or using non-POSIX extensions like GNU awk's strftime function. Here are some solutions I've already ruled out... date +%s // Doesn't work on Solaris I've seen some shell scripts suggested before, which parse the output of date then derive seconds from the formatted gregorian calendar date, but they don't seem to take details like leap seconds into account. GNU awk has the strftime function, but this isn't available in standard awk. I could write a small C program which calls the time function, but the binary would be specific to a particular architecture. Is there a cross platform way to do this using only POSIX compliant tools? I'm tempted to give up and accept a dependency on perl, which is at least widely deployed. perl -e 'print time' // Cheating (non-POSIX), but should work on most platforms

• Entity Framework Vote of No Confidence - relevant in .NET 4?

  Hi, I'm deciding on an ORM for a big project and was determined to go for ADO.NET Entity Framework, specifically its new version that ships with .NET 4. During my search for information on EF I stumbled upon ADO .NET Entity Framework Vote of No Confidence which I'm not sure how to take. The Vote of No Confidence was written sometime in 2008 to convince Microsoft to listen to specific criticism for EF v1. It's not clear whether the claims made in the Vote of No Confidence are still valid (in .NET 4) and if they're serious enough to use other solutions. NHibernate is a mature alternative, but I don't know what problems it brings. I'm generally more inclined towards a Ms solution, mainly because I can count on integration with VS and on their developer support. I would appreciate examples of how the problems mentioned in the Vote of No Confidence affect in real world projects. More importantly, are the claims made there still relevant in EF for .NET 4? • Is there an HTML browser rendering engine for Ruby?

  Given a URL, I would like to be able to render the returned HTML to know width and height for each div, fonts' size for each piece of text, color of each element, position of each element on screen, etc. A possible approach could be traversing the DOM tree with Hpricot and checking CSS style by parsing the associated stylesheet using css_parser gem. But this would not consider default styles, inheritance, floats, etc. In Java there's Cobra, a Java Web Renderer, which is able to render a web page and query attributes like width, font size, etc. for each fragment. I could use Cobra with JRuby or similar solutions, but prefer a Ruby native tool. Is there any library like this for Ruby?

• sqlite on iphone can open db but not prepare statements

  I'm brand new to using sqlite so I may have missed something basic. I've created a database and copied it into my app's document's directory. I'm able to open it but when I make a call to sqlite3_prepare_v2 I receive SQLITE_ERROR, "SQL error or missing database". here's my code: sqlite3 *database; if(sqlite3_open([dbPath UTF8String], &database) == SQLITE_OK) { sqlite3_stmt *compiledStatement; NSString *sqlStatement = @"select * from dbname"; int result = sqlite3_prepare_v2(database, [sqlStatement UTF8String], -1, &compiledStatement, nil); ... } the same sql statement works in the terminal. I've found this question in a few places either without answers or with solutions that don't fix my problem. I'm hoping someone here will be able to help. Thanks.

• Problem building with MSBuild on Team Build

  Hi, I have recently upgraded from TFS2005 to TFS2010 (and sub-sequently the team build server). I used to be able to get a team build on one of my solutions to work pretty easily, (see structure below) Solution |_Web Site | |_Bin | |_Other Files |_Project 1 |_Project 2 |_Project (n) Now, i can no longer get a build working correctly as it doesnt appear to build all my projects any longer (i've had to create a new build definition). Either that, or its not building the projects in such an order that when it hits project X, that a project it depends on (Project A), has not yet been built, and as such fails. I'm just basically trying to build a web site (not web application project), with some Dependant / linked projects. Why must it be so hard! Everything builds fine in the IDE. If i even open the solution copied to the build server under the 'Sources' directory, i am able to build it fine in the IDE on that server. No such luck with MSBuild though. Thoughts?

  Is there an easy way to set the Localizable property to true for newly created usercontrols / forms? The scope of the setting should ideally be a solution or a project. In other words I want to say that this project/solution should be localizable, and then if I add a new form or control VS should automatically set the property to true. Edit: Although custom templates are possible, in a larger team they might not be always used. So it's more about enforcing a policy, ensuring that the team members do not ommit to set the property for the projects/solutions where it is a requirement that all forms/controls containing text resources should be localizable. Note: Team Foundation Server is not an Option.

• Using Protocol Buffers in J2EE?

  Hello everyone, I have coded a server that uses Protocol Buffers in Java. A client talks to it using PB. I'd like to migrate the server code to J2EE and take advantage of the containers' built-in features like clustering. How can I have a service that receives PB messages and interprets them properly, and then gets them handled? I was thinking of a dedicated type of servlet, but how can it be done? I'm a J2EE newbie... I'm not familiar enough with J2EE application servers to know if there is a way to make that happen. P.S. I'm looking for a solution that uses TLS sockets directly. No overhead-causing middleman protocols like HTTP are welcome here. P.P.S. Open source solutions only please.
