  • Can I use a MIME type declaration to get an HTML file to open in MS Word?

I don't really have a clue with regard to HTTP headers and MIME types generally, so - any tips? Many thanks!

I have a sheet one, called "data" and a sheet two called "final". A width for the word wrapping rich text control/editor How do I know the height of the content after it have performed all the word wrapping? Is there something like int MeasureRichTextHeightAfterWordWrap(string aRichTextContent, int aWidth)? Otherwise how does those rich text control know how much to autosize? Do I have to actually place the content on a dummy rich text control and get its height afterwards? Question B. Similar to question A but in plain text onto a plain text memo/control/editor. And manually draw string with manually calculated indentations, breaks, word wrappings. Is it easier or harder?

Just recently an error started to appear which makes the build fail.     Depending on your system, the word separator characters change the way you can select/delete a word (e.g. by double clicking on it or using a key combination with your keyboard). The fact is that I hate the default behavior of OSX. For example: Take the following line of code: obj.attr1.innerAttr. If my cursor is at the end of the line and I press alt + backspace, it will delete everything and not just innerAttr. I only found some apps (like iTerm) which let you change the word separator characters. Is there a way to change it for the whole system?

  • how to get latex to hyphenate a word that contains a dash ?

    In a latex document I'm writing, I get an overfull hbox warning because of the word "multi-disciplinary", which happens to be rendered at the end of a line. I can get rid of this particular warning by changing it into multi-discipli\-nary, but the same problem will happen elsewhere, since this word is used a lot in the paper. I'd like to use the \hyphenation{} command instead, but obviously my tentative \hyphenation{multi-disci-pli-na-ry} does not work, because it does not understand the first dash correctly. What incantation do I need to get correct indentation in a word that already contains a dash ? Bonus question: where could I have found the answer to that question myself ?

  • iPhone SDK: How to store the time each word was typed?

    My problem is twofold: 1) I'm trying to determine an eloquent way to allow the user to type into a UITextView and store the time each word was typed into an array. The time will be a float which starts at 0 when the user begins to type. 2) Conversely, I'd like the user to be able to tap on a word in the UITextView and display the time that word was typed (displaying in an NSLog() is fine). Considerations that may throw a wrench into a possible approach -- what if the user goes back to the top of the text and starts typing or to the middle of the text? Even a suggested approach without code would be appreciated, because right now I'm drawing a blank.

    I'm writing a VB program that fills in values within a word document. I'm utilizing the Microsoft Word 12.0 Object Library as a Reference. I'd like to provide a scrollable preview pane to my user that is within the form he or she is using. It would be even cooler if the user could edit the document through this pane. I've done Interop extensively, so I'm well aware of how to write and edit a Word document. I just want to put it into a frame and preview it. I'll probably try to select around the document based on what is changing as the user provides input so they can see what's being changed and where. Thoughts? Thanks

    I am trying to use WpfToolkit DataGrid in Windows Phone 7 project (Silverligt 4) and it's not working.   • Open source adventures with... wait for it... Microsoft

    Last week, Microsoft announced that it was going to open source the rest of the ASP.NET MVC Web stack. The core MVC framework has been open source for a long time now, but the other pieces around it are also now out in the wild. Not only that, but it's not what I call "big bang" open source, where you release the source with each version. No, they're actually committing in real time to a public repository. They're also taking contributions where it makes sense. If that weren't exciting enough, CodePlex, which used to be a part of the team I was on, has been re-org'd to a different part of the company where it is getting the love and attention (and apparently money) that it deserves. For a period of several months, I lobbied to get a PM gig with that product, but got nowhere. A year and a half later, I'm happy to see it finally treated right. In any case, I found a bug in Razor, the rendering engine, before the beta came out. I informally sent the bug info to some people, but it wasn't fixed for the beta. Now, with the project being developed in the open, I was able to submit the issue, and went back and forth with the developer who wrote the code (I met him once at a meet up in Bellevue, I think), and he committed a fix. I tried it a day later, and the bug was gone. There's a lot to learn from all of this. That open source software is surprisingly efficient and often of high quality is one part of it. For me the win is that it demonstrates how open and collaborative processes, as light as possible, lead to better software. In other words, even if this were a project being developed internally, at a bank or something, getting stakeholders involved early and giving people the ability to respond leads to awesomeness. While there is always a place for big thinking, experience has shown time and time again that trying to figure everything out up front takes too long, and rarely meets expectations. This is a lesson that probably half of Microsoft has yet to learn, including the team I was on before I split. It's the reason that team still hasn't shipped anything to general availability. But I've seen what an open and iterative development style can do for teams, at Microsoft and other places that I've worked. When you can have a conversation with people, and take ideas and turn them into code quickly, you're winning. So why don't people like winning? I think there are a lot of reasons, and they can generally be categorized into fear, skepticism and bad experiences. I can't give the Web stack teams enough credit. Not only did they dream big, but they changed a culture that often seems immovable and hopelessly stuck. This is a very public example of this culture change, but it's starting to happen at every scale in Microsoft. It's really interesting to see in a company that has been written off as dead the last decade.

  • ASP.NET MVC tries to load older version of Owin assembly

    As a bit of context, I'm developing an ASP.NET MVC 5 application that uses OAuth-based authentication via Microsoft's OWIN implementation, for Facebook and Google only at this stage. Currently (as of v3.0.0, git-commit 4932c2f), the FacebookAuthenticationOptions and GoogleOAuth2AuthenticationOptions don't provide any property to force Facebook nor Google respectively to reauthenticate users (via appending the appropriate query string parameters) when signing in. Initially, I set out to override the following classes: FacebookAuthenticationOptions GoogleOAuth2AuthenticationOptions FacebookAuthenticationHandler (specifically AuthenticateCoreAsync()) GoogleOAuth2AuthenticationHandler (specifically AuthenticateCoreAsync()) yet discovered that the ~AuthenticationHandler classes are marked as internal. So I pulled a copy of the source for the Katana project (http://katanaproject.codeplex.com/) and modified the source accordingly. After compiling, I found that there are several dependencies that needed updating in order to use these updated assemblies (Microsoft.Owin.Security.Facebook and Microsoft.Owin.Security.Google) in the MVC project: Microsoft.Owin Microsoft.Owin.Security Microsoft.Owin.Security.Cookies Microsoft.Owin.Security.OAuth Microsoft.Owin.Host.SystemWeb This was done by replacing the existing project references to the 3.0.0 versions and updating those in web.config. Good news: the project compiles successfully. In debugging, I received an exception on startup: An exception of type 'System.IO.FileLoadException' occurred in [MVC web assembly].dll but was not handled in user code Additional information: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Owin.Security, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040) The underlying exception indicated that Microsoft.AspNet.Identity.Owin was trying to load v2.1.0 of Microsoft.Owin.Security when calling app.UseExternalSignInCookie() from Startup.ConfigureAuth(IAppBuilder app) in Startup.Auth.cs. Unfortunately that assembly (and its other dependency, Microsoft.AspNet.Identity.Owin) aren't part of the Project Katana solution, and I can't find any accessible repository for these assemblies online. Are the Microsoft.AspNet.Identity assemblies open source, like the Katana project? Is there a way to fool those assemblies to use the referenced v3.0.0 assemblies instead of v2.1.0? The /bin folder contains the 3.0.0 versions of the Owin assemblies. I've upgraded the NuGet packages for Microsoft.AspNet.Identity.Owin, and this is still an issue. Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?

    I have an app that I'm working on that polls usage from an ISP (Download quota). I've tried threading this via 'new Thread(ThreaProc)' but that didn't work, now trying an IAsyncResult based approach which does the same thing... I've got no idea on how to rectify, please help? Did someone already have this problem and how solve it ? I try to give the domain admin role to my IIS user (impersonate) but dont work

And this is the MyPage Class public class MyPage : Page { public override void VerifyRenderingInServerForm(Control control) { //Empty Method } public override bool EnableEventValidation { get { return false; } set { /* Do nothing */} } } Any help would be very appreciated. Now in excel you can delete the cell and shift the rest so the finished product looks like below: Column Headings: || Agent's Name || Time Logged In || Center || Row 1: Andrew || 12:30 PM || Virtual Base Row 2: Jeff || 7:00 AM || Test Base Row 3: Ryan || 6:30 PM || And you can see we are left with a blank cell last row.     Hi, I'm using this for the very first time to do some quick prototyping (using sketchflow). I have a simple dialog window that I want to show when a button it pressed and then hide when a button (in the dialog, like an "OK" button) is pressed. If someone could just point me in the direction of a simple tutorial on how to do this I'd be happy, or even if you have a simple example you can post here that would be great (I've been trying to google this forever!). I can tell you what I have tried (although obviously it doesn't work) Created a user control, called it "MyDialog". That user control is a simple box which is the bit of gui I want to overlay when the user clicks a button. In that user control I gave it two states "Show" and "Hide". The "Hide" state has all visability to the elements in this user control set to none and "Show" shows everything Created a button in my main screen. That button I gave a it a behaviour "ActivateStateAction". In the properties of that behaviour I set the TargetScreen to be "MyDialog" and the TargetState to be "Show". (I also set the target screen to be MyprojectName.MyProjectNameScreens.MyDialog, that doesn't work either)

    I need to generate an event when a file is closed by another app. Unfortunately, ReadDirectoryChangesW doesn't report the close event. It would be possible for me to poll (with a TTimer) any file that reported by ReadDirectoryChangesW as modified, waiting for it to be closed (using CreateFile to detect this). However, what I'd prefer is a completely event driven solution. Is there a way to hook system calls and detect all file closing events? I simply want to know the path & name of any file that has just been closed.
