• Error while storing to a shared network drive when running website on IIS

• I want to make the browser fullscreen through my flex website

  I have a website which is built totally in flex. I want to make a button, on the click of which the browser becomes fullscreen. I am not talking about a flex fullscreen, by which i mean "Application.application.stage.displayState = StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN;" I dont want to use this. The reason, I dont want to use it is, that flash does not supports keyboard on flex-fullscreen. But if i can make the browser fullscreen, it will solve my purpose. Plz help me with this. • Continuous Deployment with a C#/ASP.NET website?

  I have a website in C#/ASP.NET that is currently in development. When we are in production, I would like to do releases frequently over the course of the day, as we fix bugs and add features (like this: http://toni.org/2010/05/19/in-praise-of-continuous-deployment-the-wordpress-com-story/). If you upload a new version of the site or even change a single file, it kicks out the users that are currently logged in and makes them start over any forms and such. Is there a secret to being able to do deployments without interfering with users for .NET sites?

• Using 'git pull' vs 'git checkout -f' for website deployment

  I've found two common approaches to automatically deploying website updates using a bare remote repo. The first requires that the repo is cloned into the document root of the webserver and in the post-update hook a git pull is used. cd /srv/www/siteA/ || exit unset GIT_DIR git pull hub master The second approach adds a 'detached work tree' to the bare repository. The post-receive hook uses git checkout -f to replicate the repository's HEAD into the work directory which is the webservers document root i.e. GIT_WORK_TREE=/srv/www/siteA/ git checkout -f The first approach has the advantage that changes made in the websites working directory can be committed and pushed back to the bare repo (however files should not be updated on the live server). The second approach has the advantage that the git directory is not within the document root but this is easily solved using htaccess. Is one method objectively better than the other in terms of best practice? What other advantages and disadvantages am I missing?

  I've been testing out the new functionality of html5 and js to create a sketching site. I've been looking into this for a possible client that wants their site to be ipad accessible, but also have drawing features on it. So i created a rough experiment where you can drag your mouse across a screen to draw lines. I went to test it on an ipad and realized this doesn't work. Why? because dragging on an ipad is reserved for actually dragging the screen around. Is there something you can do to get around this? I'm sure this could be done if made for an app, but what about just a normal website.

  Hello, I trying to do billing service. Seller can create bill from my website and send to the buyer. Once seller created bill, bill detail will be send to buyer email address. What I want to know is, at the bill information email, can i send payment link whether buyer can click payment link and carried to the paypal payment page directly. Will not be landing or redirecting from our page. Can it be possible ? Because when someone request money from paypal, we get the payment link from paypal which is directly go to the payment page. • Should I log my website's 404 errors?

  I have an ASP.NET website, but this question isn't really about technology, it is rather about practice. Should we log our 404 errors? My reasoning: This is a potential vulnerable point because a simple unfriendly user may fill up your hard drive in no time just by requesting wrong URLs! Some browsers often request resources up front - like for example favicon.ico, even if its not there. This is really annoying. But really I would like to know about a broken link if there exists one in my websites. Should I depend on the URL referrer? The problem with the URL referrer is that I cannot distinguish my internal redirect which may be broken with an unfriendly one from outside. What does the practice suggest?

  Hi, I'm using Visual Studio 2008 SP1 with SQL Server 2008. I'am trying to add an SQL Server File (MDF) in my Website project. Then I get the following error: Connections to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express 2005 to function properly. Please verify... I've been using Google without any results, and I'm in deep need for help.. I've tried the following things to fix it, without succes: Changing instance names so they should fit Attaching the database in the management studio Uninstall/Install Visual Studio Uinstall/Install SQL Server 2005 AND 2008 All in all, this is a REALLY annoying error and it just should work..

• Problem deriving a user control from an abstract base class in website project

  In a Visual Studio website, I have created a user control. This control is derived from a class (in App_Code) that is itself derived from System.Web.UI.UserControl. This is an abstract class with an abstract method. I then try to implement that method in the user control, but I get the following errors from Visual Studio: Error 1 'WebUserControl.AbstractMethod()': no suitable method found to override C:\Users\User\Documents\Visual Studio 2010\WebSites\Delme\WebUserControl.ascx.cs 10 28 C:\...\Delme\ Error 2 'WebUserControl' does not implement inherited abstract member 'AbstractBaseClass.AbstractMethod()' c:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Temp\Temporary ASP.NET Files\delme\0eebaa86\f1a48678\App_Web_nrsbzxex.0.cs 14 Error 1 says that my override of the abstract method is invalid, it doesn't recognise the abstract method in the base class. Error 2 says that the partial class automatically built by asp.net doesn't implement the abstract method! Note that this works fine when the code is used in a Web Application project. Why is this happening?

• Most efficient approach for multilingual PHP website

  I am working on a large multilingual website and I am considering different approaches for making it multilingual. The possible alternatives I can think of are: The Gettext functions with generation of .po files One MySQL table with the translations and a unique string ID for each text PHP-files with arrays containing the different translations with unique string IDs As far as I have understood the Gettext functions should be most efficient, but my requirement is that it should be possible to change a text string in the original reference language (English) without the other translations of that string automatically reverting back to English just because a couple of words changed. Is this possible with Gettext? What is the least resource demanding solution? Is using the Gettext functions or PHP files with arrays more or less equally resource demanding? Any other suggestions for more efficient solutions?

  I have recently started learning python and django and working on a project that includes building a website for collecting information from customers. I am currently trying to figure out best way to isolate the customer data (collected information is sensitive and should only be accessible by customer and the service provider). I found this post Postgresql - one database for everyone, or one-database per customer and my question is that can I automate the model inheritance with customer creation via admin? To be specific, when save() is called for adding customer via django admin, this should create the customer specific tables (create a new set of tables with 'company_name' -prefix). For more information of the environment, I have extended the basic user registration with custom UserProfile adding 'company' and 'role' fields for each user. Upon login, the 'company' of the user will be checked to filter out tables without the 'company_name' prefix. 'Role' will further filter the which company-specific tables and set rights (view, edit). will appreciate any suggestions if more elegant methods could be used to solve the data isolation problem than model inheritance.

  So I have a website with multiple asp controls. When I press enter inside by login form, the search function runs because it's the first thing found on the page. How would I handle the enter button so that when the active textbox is for the login form, the loginbutton code actually runs rather than the searchbutton. One last problem is that the login controls are inside a loginview so the hierarchy shows that the asp:textbox and asp:button for logging in are inside 3 tags like so: <loginview> <login> <logintemplate> //controls are here. </logintemplate> </login> Just a note that all controls are asp and that all code is prefered in VB. • Automatic website screenshots for Web app?

  Is there a way to take automatic screenshots of a web page (by specifying its URL) in a web app using PHP or Ruby on Rails? Perhaps using a plugin or some external REST service. I've researched a lot, and nothing seems to fit except something like this (http://www.binarymoon.co.uk/2010/02/automated-take-screenshots-website-free/) but I doubt Wordpress would just let me spam their servers for something not Wordpress related. • Publish Website

  I've published my website many times. But didn't think about this though until I came across this issue. So I decided to publish my WAP project to a local folder on my C drive first. Then used FTP to upload it to my shared host on discountasp.net. I noticed during runtime that the stack trace was referencing that local folder still and erroring out. Anyone know what config settings are affected when publishing? Obviously something is still pointing to my local C drive and I've searched my entire solution and don't see why.

  Hi, I would like advice on the best way to restrict access to a weba pplication (using .net 2.0 and II6) based on the clients IP address. The two ways I am considering: 1) Through the server side code - check the client I.P against a list of IP addresses within the web.config. 2) Through IIS by creating a virtual directory and restricting the I.P addresses on this virtual directory. My question is if I go the virtual directory route there are a lot of users that access this website and I have read reverse domain lookups made during each client request can be very expensive on server resources. • Website with Microsites & Blog - recommendations

  Hi guys, I'm in the process of scoping a solution for an events organisation. Their main website features information about them and blog entries etc, but they hold major events which require microsites (domain.com/event). The microsites all have a different look-and-feel, different nav structure, and custom content-managed components. The one thing that's common across everything is the blog - it will have a category for each event under which users can post. The main site will display all blog posts, but the microsites will only display posts for their category. How would you guys implement this? The solution needs to be PHP, and my initial thought was CodeIgniter but if possible I'd like to avoid building the blog functionality - so I guess I could integrate it with EE or Wordpress. If anyone has any other suggestions they would be most appreciated.
