    I am writing a Selenium test case using the IDE, and I have a that I want to verify is equal to the value I expect.   • Can SqlAnywhere's UltraLiteJ DB tables be viewed in the Database Explorer of the Eclipse IDE

    Hi, I am developing a Blackberry app which should be able to access a DB. Here is my development environment and the tools I am using: Eclipse (Galileo) IDE with the Blackberry plugin installed. Blackberry OS 5.0 SQLAnywhere's DB 11 with UltraLiteJ (I am targeting Blackberrys running OS 4.1 and above) I have successfully executed a sample project for building a Blackberry application that uses the UltraLiteJ DB, following the tutorial in the UltraLiteJ documentation*. The tutorial creates, populates and retrieves data from the DB using java code. Now, I want to be able to access the tables and view data in them from the Eclipse IDE. Something similar to the FireFox plugin for SqlLite or say the Enterprise Manager for Sql Server 2005 which is a DB Explorer providing access to the StoredProcedures, Views, DB Diagrams etc. for a Database.   • ShellExecute not working from IDE but works otherwise.

    I want to create and then open a txt file using the ShellExecute command. I have used this code for years with Delphi 7 and it worked: function Executa(CONST ExeName, Parameters: string): Boolean; begin if Parameters= '' then Result:= ShellExecute(0, 'open', PChar(ExeName), NIL , nil, SW_SHOWNORMAL)> 32 else Result:= ShellExecute(0, 'open', PChar(ExeName), PChar(Parameters), nil, SW_SHOWNORMAL)> 32; end; Now, I switch to Windows 7 (don't like it; they stuck it on my throat with my new laptop) 64 bit and the code is not working anymore when it runs from IDE. Delhi shows the CPU window with the caption "CPU-Process unknown (2352)". I close the CU windows and everything works fine until I close the application, when Delphi shows the CPU window one more time. If I run the app from outside IDE, it works fine. Looks like the debugger has something to say to me, but I don't know what.

  • Problem in VS2010 IDE in analog monitor in a dual-monitor setup

    I am using VS2010 Premium with a dual-window setup. One of the monitors is on a digital (DVI) cable and other one is on an analog (VGA) cable. I have noticed that when I put VS2010 in the analog monitor, there are garbled texts and refresh problems while coding and/or scrolling. This does not seem to be the case when I put VS2010 in the digital monitor. Note that, I am not expanding VS IDE to use 2 screens, just making it 1 full screen, either analog or digital. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I also work with VS2008 and have not seen this problem in either screen. VS IDE has started using WPF from the 2010 release, not sure if this has something to do with it.

  • How do I install something from source and make it available to root?

    I have a CentOS VM and I need to install the latest version of Ruby on it. Unfortunately, yum only makes Ruby 1.8.6 available so I'm trying to install Ruby from source. Here's what I'm using: cd /usr/src sudo -s wget http://ftp.ruby-lang.org/pub/ruby/1.9/ruby-1.9.3-p125.tar.gz tar -xvzf ruby-1.9.3-p125.tar.gz cd ruby-1.9.3-p125 ./configure make && make install The problem is that once that's done, I can only use Ruby as a regular user but I need to use it as root to install some gems. For example, as a regular user I can do ruby -v and it works but sudo ruby -v outputs bash: ruby: command not found. What am I missing to make stuff I install from source available to all users?

  • Including File Paths in Ocra?

    I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to include file paths in ocra and still have the application make an exe. I have it set up so that the .exe generated by ocra would sit on the same directory level as another folder. That folder is named 'Place Files Here', and the program simply performs regex commands on text files in the 'Place Files Here' folder. I can run ocra without errors if I use only Dir.getwd, but if I try to add directory = Dir.getwd + '/Place Files Here' it won't run. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    I am about to embark on learning Python (largely for the purposes of using it as scripting glue between my applications). I use Netbeans (6.8) for both my C++ and PHP development work. Ideally, I would like to use the same IDE for Python - and there is a Python plugin for Netbeans (admittedly, its still in Beta). Does anyone have any experience using Python with Netbeans? Shall I use Netbeans (for the reasons stated above - i.e. already familiar environment), or is there a [GOOD] reason why I should use a different IDE?

  • Are there any GOOD javascript addins for Visual Studio?

    In our daily work we maintain some rather large Javascript libaries. We use VS2008 and while they made some improvements to the Javascript IDE, I still find it lacking. There is no outlining, no collapsing, or other ways to keep the code organized. I have tried js-addin and JSLint which crash and don't have the features I want, respectively. I have actually gone as far as running Aptana Studio as their Javascript IDE is much better than what I can get out of Visual Studio. I'm getting tired of having to maintain 2 IDE's. Is there anything out there that can make Javascript editing less painful in Visual Studio 2008? (We don't have the option of 2010 yet).

    hi, I have a basic IDE for a user control i am building. It allows me to add labels to a panel and move them around, like a very basic form designer. When I add the controls to the panel at runtime, I'd like to give the control a unique name string like how the VS IDE tracks the controls it already has and adds an extra number when it creates the default control name. I have tried checking the controls collection each time a new control is added, but wasnt sure if there was a good string comparison method to return a name with a unique number on the end that hasn't been used yet.

    I am trying to get mongrel cluster working on my Ubuntu Server Karmic box in preparation to setup Capistrano. I've been trying to get the two to work all day and finally decided to completely remove Capistrano and see if I can just get Mongrel Cluster to work. I ran this to install mongrel cluster: gem install mongrel mongrel_cluster Everything installed fine, when I change into my app's directory... # mongrel_rails -bash: mongrel_rails: command not found I can run it from its install location: # /var/lib/gems/1.8/bin/mongrel_rails Usage: mongrel_rails <command> [options] Available commands are: ...   • Load Balancing Rails on Apache 2.x

    My situation is that I need to proxy traffic to the root of my web server to port 81 for IIS, and then any traffic to a sub-directory needs to be directed to the rails app. my-server.com/ - needs to proxy to port 81 my-server.com/myapp - needs to point to the rails app This seems to be working alright for the rails application but the images, javascripts, and stylesheets are not actually working (proxied). I've tried to fiddle with the proxypass lines but it still doesn't work for me..can anyone help?   • pg_dump not working - do I need to change order of $PATH?

    I'm trying to set the $PATH to pick up the latest version of pg_dump as I'm currently getting a mismatch error while doing a migrate in my Rails app (I recently changed the schema type to SQL). I have added a new file in /etc/profile.d called pg_dump.sh, and inside that put: PG_DUMP=/usr/pgsql-9.1 export PG_DUMP PATH=$PATH:$PG_DUMP/bin export PATH On looking at echo $PATH, I get: /usr/local/rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.3-p194/bin:/usr/local/rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.3-p194@global/bin:/usr/local/rvm/rubies/ruby-1.9.3-p194/bin:/usr/local/rvm/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/pgsql-9.1/bin:/root/bin And I still get the error. Do I need to change the order? If so any ideas how?   • Relative path incorrect in the view layer when hosting a rails3 app in a subdirectory using passenger and apache

    I want to host multiple Rails apps on a multiple server using sub-directories. And have encountered some relative path problems. I have made a symbolic link to the app's public directory and placed it in the /var/www/html directory, var/www/html/ /test_app (symbolic link to the public folder of test_app) and set apache as so LoadModule passenger_module /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/passenger-3.0.12/ext/apache2/mod_passenger.so PassengerRoot /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/passenger-3.0.12 PassengerRuby /usr/local/bin/ruby <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName test.com DocumentRoot /var/www/html Options Indexes FollowSymLinks -MultiViews RailsBaseURI /test_app </Location> </VirtualHost> The links in the app itself works just fine, all the links acknowledge the test_app/ directory and work, however, when it comes to showing images in the public directory in the view, the relative path goes wrong. Say I have /system/files/1/aaa.png it goes looking for it in /var/www/html/system/files/1/aaa.png rather than /var/www/html/test_app/system/files/1/aaa.png As far as I understand this is an Apache setting problem than something to be done in Rails, if its possible I would prefer to have it contained in the conf file of apache rather than having to alter the code.

  • Hosting a website on Heroku.... I know how to, but im running into problems!

    I'm starting to learn more on the back-end scale of programing. Recently I started up Heroku for the second or third time. This time I actually installed the Git update to my Mac and installed Heroku in the terminal. I wanted to upload a static html site with the sinatra gem. Everything worked out fine inside the terminal, though I added sinatra after I got everything working and the file with the site hooked up to Heroku. In my logs I did see that I was missing the sinatra gem, so I installed it. My site contains both the proper app.rb and config.ru files. I have nothing showing up online. Just a blank screen! Contacting Heroku on this problem has been very difficult.   • How to evaluate the quality of Rails code?

    In a code review, what do you look for to assess a developer's expertise? Given an opportunity to look at a developer's work on a real-world project, what tell-tale signs are a tip-off to carelessness or lack of experience? Conversely, where do you look in the code to find evidence of a developer's skill or knowledge of best practices? For example, if I'm looking at a typical Rails app, I would be happy to see the developer is using RSpec (showing a commitment to using test-driven development and knowledge that RSpec is currently more popular than the default TestUnit). But in examining the specs for a Rails model, I see that the developer is testing associations, which might indicate a lack of real understanding of Rails testing requirements (since such tests are redundant given that they only test what's already implemented and tested in ActiveRecord). More generally, I might look to see if developers are writing their own implementations versus using widely available gems or if they are cleaning up code versus leaving lots of commented-out "leftovers." What helps you determine the skill of a Rails developer? What's your code quality checklist?

  • Best practices for team workflow with RoR/Github for designer + coder?

    My friend and I have started to try to collaborate on some projects. For background, I come from a PHP/Wordpress/Drupal coding background, but recently I've become more experienced with the RoR framework, while he is more experienced as an HTML/CSS designer, working with PHP and WordPress. We're both relatively new to RoR I think, and so we're trying to figure out our collaborative workflow, but we have no idea where to start. For instance, we were trying to figure out how he could do some minor edits to the CSS file without having to do a full RoR deploy on his box. We still haven't figured out a solution, so I think it's best if we start to set some sort of workflow based on best practices. I was wondering if you guys have any insight or links to articles/case studies regarding this topic?

    I am having a difficulty in deciding the database & its structure. Let us say the problem is like this. For my product I have various customers( each is an educational institute) Each customer have their own sub-clients ( Institution have students) Each student record will have some basic information like "name" & "Number" . There are also additional information that a customer(institution) might want to ask sub-client(student) like "email" or "semester" I have come up with two solutions : 1. Mysql _insititution__ id-|- Description| __Student__ id-|-instituition_id-|-Name-|-Number| __student_additional_details__ student_id -|- field_name -|- Value Student_additional_details will have multiple records for each student depending upon number of questions asked from institution. 2.MongoDb _insititution___ id-|- Description| _Student__ id-|-instituition_id-|-Name-|-Number|-otherfield1 -|- otherfield2 with mongo the structure itself can be dynamic so student table seems really good in mongo . But the problem comes when I have to relate student with institution . So which one is a better design ? Or some other idea ?

  • Hosting a website on Heroku.... I know how to, but im running into problems!

    I'm starting to learn more on the back-end scale of programing. Recently I started up Heroku for the second or third time. This time I actually installed the Git update to my Mac and installed Heroku in the terminal. I wanted to upload a static html site with the Sinatra gem. Everything worked out fine inside the terminal, though I added Sinatra after I got everything working and the file with the site hooked up to Heroku. In my logs I did see that I was missing the Sinatra gem, so I installed it. My site contains both the proper app.rb and config.ru files. I have nothing showing up online. Just a blank screen! Contacting Heroku on this problem has been very difficult.
