• Outlook opening link in IE 64-bit

  I am running CRM 4.0 plugin for outlook 2007. When I open a link in outlook it launches in IE8 64-bit. This will not work because it appears some on the feature in CRM 4.0 do not work in IE 64-bit. The default browser on the computer was FireFox. I change it to IE 32-bit and it is still behaving the same. Does anyone have any ideas outlook why it is opening in 64-bit? Is there a way to force Outlook to use the 32-bit version?

• Mac OS X software always order files alphabetically rather than by type.

  I have noticed many Mac applications sort the files alphabetically rather than by type. A good example would be Coda by panic.com. The files in the file menu are organized alphabetically. I requested for them to add the feature to organize files by type, and they've said that it's a Finder thing. So I looked at other applications to see if they were organizing by type. I noticed Dreamweaver CS4 had this same problem and now including Dreamweaver CS5. There has to be something in the Mac that does this and that I can modify. I played with Spotlight and it now displays its files by type (thinking that's what I can do) but it didn't take effect in other applications. What library are these applications using to display a file menu for their files?

• Disable user_deny.db in Cyrus/imapd

  We have a cyrus 2.4.12 on Debian, we use packages, rather than building each software ourselves. I am getting the this "log" constantly, a lot of, various users, and 8-10 times per user request: fetching user_deny.db entry for 'user123' I have searched for it, but haven't found a real solution, there were some patches for 2.3.xx, but we don't want ot build it, we prefer to use packages. Is there any solution to disable the user_deny.db at all. We don't need this feature. It wastes the CPU as disk.

• Windows 7 homegroup sharing problem

  I have two machines in a homegroup. My desktop and my wife's laptop. The public folders like pictures, videos, etc. are shared fine. But if I try to share a single folder with the homegroup from the laptop, I don't see it on my desktop. I see suggestions of rebooting, leaving and rejoining the homegroup; even recreating the homegroup. Frankly, that's just ridiculous. If those are the only solutions then the feature is just not working as it should. Is it possible I'm experiencing these problems because I am still running the public beta of WIndows 7 (yeah I know, I need to get over my laziness and reinstall) while my wife is running the release version? Are there solutions to this problem that don't involve the somewhat drastic measures mentioned above?

• iTunes Title Bar is Equal to the Location of the Library file?

  I have never been able to get a clear answer on why the latest edition of iTunes does this. I have my entire iTunes library located in C:\itunes\ and the library data files inside C:\itunes\!library_info for backup purposes. However when version 9 of iTunes came out it went from having iTunes as the title, to !library_info. Anyway to get around this without moving my data files away? Annoying "feature" if that is what it is. Again Apple support and forums were of no help to me. Anyone have insight on this? • Send an Email at a future date

  I'd like to write up an email that gets sent out in a few days. I'd prefer to use Gmail, but I could use some other client if necessary. It doesn't look like Gmail has this feature in their labs anywhere, but it could just be hiding somewhere. Any ideas? EDIT: a bit more backstory on my particular situation. My wife is out of town for three weeks, and I've decided to email her every day while she's out. Unfortunately, I myself am going camping this weekend, so I wanted to pre-record a message that gets sent while I'm out. Unfortunately, FutureMail and FutureMe both are for sending email to yourself, probably for anti-spam reasons. I guess the best solution is to use thunderbird on my laptop (so it's shielded from power outages). Seems a little excessive to keep a computer running just to send a few emails, but whatever gets the job done :).

• can't rotate display on windows 7

  I'm running 64-bit windows 7 on a dell inspiron 1525 with an Intel 965 graphics chipset. When I bring up the "screen resolution" settings, I can set up my primary and secondary display (the laptop + an LCD monitor) but there is no option for rotation. I'm used to using this feature at work so I was surprised to see it missing. I installed dell's latest drivers for this chipset (although they were not marked as w7 or 64 bit) and no change. Any idea what's going on here? Thanks superusers!

  Hi, I need advice installing XAMPP with different php versions. How can I install XAMPP supporting different version of php? Before I formated my computer I used both WAMP and XAMPP for specific purposes. I used XAMPP because some of the scripts are buggy when run in WAMP, I used WAMP because it support different versions of PHP. Now I want that feature that support different version of PHP to be added to XAMPP. So I could just install 1 software for my Web Development and It would be easy for me to manage. • Changing default shortcut for Spaces on a Macbook Pro with Snow Leapord?

  I'm primarily a Linux user but my main home PC is a Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard. The concept of "Spaces" in a Mac is extremely important to how I utilize my development environments and I use this feature on Linux all the time. I use Compiz Manager for Ubuntu which allows me to "Desktop Switch" and navigate all desktops using the Ctrl+Alt+Arrow keys to a particular desktop. On a Mac, the process is similar, however, you're only given 3 non-customizable short-cuts: Option+Arrow, Ctrl+Arrow, and Alt+Arrow. How can I change the keyboard shortcut to take Ctrl+Option? The keys would then fit my working style and it won't feel awkward to remember two sets of keyboard shortcuts. Thanks! Mahmoud

• Excel: Is it possible to have rows with sub-totals that doesn't ruin the total-total?

  I have an excel sheet which looks something like this: date text value other-value date text value other-value date text value other-value date text value other-value totals sum other-sum The sum is of course a sum of all the values above it. What I am wondering is if there is a way I can add rows with a sub-total at random places through out that list. For example if I would like to have a sub-total for each new month. My problem is of course that the total sum will become way to large because it will also sum the rows with the sub-totals. Does Excel have a feature that can help me so I can have the sub-totals and a correct total-total? I'm using Excel 2010.

• how to stop outgoing email spam

  running an email system using roundcube, with about 200 people using it. 99% of them do as they are told and only email clients they have already spoken to, however 1% of them decide to bulk spam bcc emails, which then tripped an aol filter and almost got us banned from our host. I have disabled the guys account but I am worried about something similar happening in the future, what would be the best way to stop this? I read that if aol recieve 3 emails within 60 seconds from the same ip address then its an instant ban, so i am guessing with the big companies like google, their email accounts must have different ip addresses? and if so is there any way to implement a similar feature? Also i have spam assasin enabled, in this case what would be the best configuration for it?

• Installing a new SQL Server instance fails

  I've previously in my setup installed SQL Server Express 2005. Now I've switched to SQL Server Express 2008. I updated the command line parameters to those documented for the latter. If the comp already has SQL Server Express 2008 installed, my installer should create a new instance. The command line parameters are as follows: /ACTION=Install /FEATURES=SQLEngine /QS /INSTANCENAME=ABCD /SECURITYMODE=SQL /SAPWD=CunningPassword The requested instance name does not exist on the target machine. This will end in an error -2068643838. The logs show the following error: "No features were installed during the setup execution. The requested features may already be installed." If I remove the /QS parameter and try to install interactively, I'll get as far as the Feature Selection page. The UI shows three options, Instance Features, Shared Features and Redistributable Features. Whatever I select, clicking Next results in the same error (There are validation errors on this page). • HDMI vs Component vs VGA vs DVI vs DisplayPort

  What are the pros and cons of each of these different display adapters and cables? From what I can understand, HDMI offers the ability to send audio along the same cable as well as the ability to do progressive scan. I've Googled but I can't seem to find any real answers. Why would someone care to run 1280x1024 over HDMI or DVI instead of VGA? What about component? All I hear is one is digital and one is analog, but I can't find what that means from a feature/benefit stand point.

• Snapshot/rollback for libvirt+KVM?

  I've recently begun using KVM for my development/test environment on a Linux host system with 8G memory. Prior, I was using VMware Fusion for my virtual environment, but my Macbook only has 2G memory. I tried VMware Server and ESX on the host instead of KVM, but the webUI doesn't run on Mac OSX's Firefox, and we're going to be doing more with KVM anyway. The main feature of VMware I miss is robust snapshot/rollback, but I'm missing this in KVM. I understand the snapshot command, but it shuts down the guest OS when complete, and then copying the disk image to preserve its state is cumbersome. Is this really the best way to manage snapshots on KVM?

• How compatible are VMWare and VirtualBox?

  At my workplace, everyone uses VMware Player (and some people have licenses for Workstation). We frequently share VMs to save time on development setup. However, I would really like to take advantage of the Snapshot feature in VirtualBox since I am unable to acquire a license for Workstation. I have read that VirtualBox has no issues reading VMWare VMs (including VMs with snapshots). However, I'm worried about how compatible things are the other way. In VirtualBox, I open up a VM created in VMware and create multiple snapshots. Can the resulting files be opened in VMware?

It was easy to configure to start-up with the system and make VPN available on the other side but now it fails to connect at the step shown below: The remote machine is running Windows Server 2008 R2.   In my daily e-mail often happens the following scenario: I send somebody an email which describes some problem and requests an action from the recipient. Typically, I wish to ensure that this action was taken, or at least somehow resolved; when this happens, the email recipient should notify me with a response email about what was done, and what was not and why. But, sometimes emails don't get read by the recipient, or he forgets to reply to me. At the same time, I cannot constantly keep in memory the list of all emails for which I was waiting an answer and still didn't receive it. So I wonder, is there in any email client such a feature which would allow me to somehow mark specific outgoing emails as "demanding reply"? The mail client could in this case notify me if any "demanding reply" emails still aren't replied for a long time.

• Can't uninstall/reinstall .NET Framework 3.5 with DISM

  My net framework 3.5 is broken. Verification tool (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/10/13/8999004.aspx) says it's OK, but its not. Net framework 3.5 can't be just uninstalled/installed on Windows 7. But you can do this by add/remove windows features. For me this doesn't work, I receive thus (not very helpful) error message ... "An error occurred. not all of the updates were successfully uninstalled" I found DISM tool which does exactly same, but have log. And now: DISM /online /disable-feature /FeatureName:NetFx3 1603 error. And log: http://pastebin.com/4jBkEiT6 Any ideas how to do it?

• OS X Money Management Software

  I recently moved from Windows to a Mac, but I still have to keep Virtualbox and Windows installation on the machine to use Quicken. iBank looked promising, but I had problems importing my data from Quicken. I would switch to Mint if they would allow you to enter transactions manually, but the lack of that feature is a deal breaker. (I use Quicken primarily to track uncleared transactions, with the bonus of reporting on past spending.) Is there any other software I should try that will be able to import at least most of my old data from Quicken? Edit: For what it's worth, I never did find anything else. Quicken Essentials for Mac was released this year, but doesn't handle investments well from what I hear. I'm now on Quicken 2010 under XP running inside Virtualbox. It's not ideal, but it seems to be the only thing around right now that meets my needs.

• Problem with Jumbo Frames

  Hello, I am trying to set up jumbo frames on my gigabit home LAN but no luck so far. My setup is: * D-Link DIR-655 router, HW Revision A3, Firmware 1.21 EU * Synology DS107+, Firmware 3.0-1337 * Laptop w/ Win7 x64, external PCIx NIC managed by "Generic Marvel Yukon 88E8053 based Ethernet Controller" The router is supposed to support jumbo frames but doesn't feature any relevant setting. I set the Jumbo Packet value to 9000 on both the NIC and the Synobox but it doesn't work, ping -f -l 8972 says "Packet needs to be fragmented but DF set". Is there any other setting I overlooked, the DIR-655 doesn't actually support jumbo frames, or what else could be the problem?

  Hi, I am looking for a software that allows me to enter my used backup media (e.g. DVD1, DVD2) my backed-up assets in high-level (such as "family-photos from 2003", "laptop drivers") details of the assets ("Ninas Birthday 2003") where the backup media is currently stored when the media has been burned (to re-burn in case of media degeneration) Of course it should be possible to navigate from media to assets and backwards. I also thought about marking assets as "deprecated". If all assets on a media are deprecated, the program should tell me so I don't have to keep it any more. Does anybody know a program with this feature-set or will I have to start my own in say Access?

• KB2494088 Always Fails : How to get it to install (or stop trying to)?

  I have a problem where KB2494088 (a SQL Server 2008 R2 patch) continually fails to install when I reboot my system. Downloading the manual patch and trying to apply it says: The SQL Server patch package is part of a general distribution release (GDR). This package cannot be applied since this SQL Server feature has already been patched. To continue, you must install a higher version of the SQL Server patch. Most other posts (this, this) suggest it's either a failed (or cancelled) past installation or requires a SQL server repair. I've looked at registry settings and tried the repair option, but nothing seems to work.

  According to XName's (not up-to-date) ChangeLog Thu Oct 19 2006 Yann Hirou ([email protected]) Adding SRV records - including modification of dns_records it appears to be possible to set a SRV record for one of your zones. However, I just can't find a way to do this in the UI. I've contacted Yann Hirou, but didn't receive any answer (he is either submerged by emails, or only responds to "paying supporters") It might be that the feature is available in the source code, but that the instance running on XName has not been updated (since 2006?) Has anyone using XName been able to set up such records? Otherwise I might be forced to switch to another free DNS service...
