  • Receiving a NullPointerException when calling a cursor in Android

    - by LordSnoutimus
    I am creating an application which tracks the users location using GPS, stores the longitude and latitude in a database using a content provider then output the first long and lat to a mapview. I am able to create the cursor using this line of code: Cursor c = getContentResolver().query(GPSContentProvider.CONTENT_URI, null, null, null, null); startManagingCursor(c); However, when I make a call to move to the first row in the database or even try to close the cursor using c.close(); I receive a NullPointerException.

  • Android WebViewClient problem

    - by deSelby
    I've defined a private class that extends WebViewClient and set my WebView's client to an instance of that class (webView01.setWebViewClient(new Callback());). The class definition is as follows: private class Callback extends WebViewClient { public void onLoadResource (WebView view, String url) { } public void onPageStarted (WebView view, String url, Bitmap favicon) { } public void onPageFinished (WebView view, String url) { Animation anim = AnimationUtils.loadAnimation(MyNews.this, R.anim.webviewanim); view.startAnimation(anim); } public void onReceivedError (WebView view, int errorCode, String description, String failingUrl) { } public boolean shouldOverrideUrlLoading (WebView view, String url) { Log.e("loading url", url); return false; } } My problem is that onPageFinished is definitely getting called, but shouldOverrideUrlLoading is never being called. What am I doing wrong here?

  • Android - Read PNG image without alpha and decode as ARGB_8888

    - by loki666
    I try to read an image from sdcard (in emulator) and then create a Bitmap image with the BitmapFactory.decodeByteArray method. I set the options: options.inPrefferedConfig = Bitmap.Config.ARGB_8888 options.inDither = false Then I extract the pixels into a ByteBuffer. ByteBuffer buffer = ByteBuffer.allocateDirect(width*height*4) bitmap.copyPixelsToBuffer(buffer) I use this ByteBuffer then in the JNI to convert it into RGB format and want to calculate on it. But always I get false data - I test without modifying the ByteBuffer. Only thing I do is to put it into the native method into JNI. Then cast it into a unsigned char* and convert it back into a ByteBuffer before returning it back to Java. unsigned char* buffer = (unsinged char*)(env->GetDirectBufferAddress(byteBuffer)) jobject returnByteBuffer = env->NewDirectByteBuffer(buffer, length) Before displaying the image I get data back with bitmap.copyPixelsFromBuffer( buffer ) But then it has wrong data in it. My Question is if this is because the image is internally converted into RGB 565 or what is wrong here? ..... Have an answer for it: - yes, it is converted internally to RGB565. Does anybody know how to create such an bitmap image from PNG with ARGB8888 pixel format? If anybody has an idea, it would be great!

  • Android: Deciding between SurfaceView and OpenGL (GLSurfaceView)

    - by Rich
    Is there a way to decide up front based on the expected complexity of a game/app in the planning phase whether to use regular Canvas drawing in a SurfaceView or to go with OpenGL? I've been playing around with a Canvas and only need 2D movement, and on a fairly new phone I'm getting pretty decent performance with a bunch of primitive objects and a few bitmaps running around the screen on a solid background. Is it fair to say that if I'm going to be drawing background images and increasing the number of objects being moved and drawn on top of them that I should go straight to OpenGL?

  • Android pattern locking

  • How to get current location with an accept accuracy in Android

    - by virsir
    I am trying to locate user's device to get its current location with coarse method. The problem is that I can only accept a location with accuracy of 1000m, my code like this: public void onLocationChanged(Location location) { currentLocation = location; if(location.hasAccuracy()) { if(location.getAccuracy() < 1000) { locationManager.removeUpdates(this); callback(); //do callback here } } } But what if the network is not good and I can not get the location with that accuracy? I may want to accept the latest location I got if I have requested its location for some time, like 1 minute. Then how can I control the request time, for example, 1 minute, if it did not get the accurate location until then, I will stop it and then accept the latest location I have got if exist.

  • Android Emulator and adb problems

    - by Richard
    I'm having a problem in that whenever I start a emulator, either manually through the command line, or when debugging from Eclipse, it is never recognized by adb, i.e. 'adb devices' will not list it. I have to manually kill and restart adb every time I want to recognize a new emulator. Surely, something is wrong here? (I'm on Vista 64-bit)

  • Android, NetworkInfo.getTypeName(), NullpointerException

    - by moppel
    I have an activity which shows some List entries. When I click on a list item my app checks which connection type is available ("WIF" or "MOBILE"), through NetworkInfo.getTypeName(). As soon as I call this method I get a NullpointerException. Why? I tested this on the emulator, cause my phone is currently not available (it's broken...). I assume this is the problem? This is the only explanation that I have, if that's not the case I have no idea why this would be null. Here's some code snippet: public class VideoList extends ListActivity{ ... public void onCreate(Bundle bundle){ final ConnectivityManager cm = (ConnectivityManager) getSystemService(Context.CONNECTIVITY_SERVICE); ... listview.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener(){ public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int position, long id) { ... NetworkInfo ni = cm.getActiveNetworkInfo(); String connex = ni.getTypeName(); //Nullpointer exception here if(connex.equals("WIFI")doSomething(); } }); } }

  • Android ViewFlipper is out of control

    - by Doug Miller
    I have an app that uses a ViewFlipper to display some text and images. I have the flipper's flipinterval set to 10 seconds, but also want to allow the user to click a button that will advance the flipper. The code blow works great on 2.2, the view is changed every 10 seconds and if I click flip_button the view is changed and the auto flip steps back in 10 seconds later. The 1.5 and 1.6 versions will remember the manual advance and it will happen every time in the rotation. What am I missing? private void initFlipButton(){ final ImageView flip_button = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.flip_button); info_button.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View view) { flipper.stopFlipping(); flipper.showNext(); flipper.startFlipping(); } }); } private void initFlipper(){ flipper = (ViewFlipper) findViewById(R.id.flip_dog); flipper.setFlipInterval(10000); flipper.setInAnimation(inFromRightAnimation()); flipper.setOutAnimation(outToLeftAnimation()); flipper.startFlipping(); }

  • Android Content Provider database leak issue

    - by MattC
    I am writing a content provider for this application and in my content provider I am opening a database connection, running a query and returning the cursor of results to the calling program. If I close this database connection in the provider, the cursor has no results. If I leave it open, I get "leak found" errors in my DDMS log. What am I missing here? What's the clean, proper way to return a cursor of database results?

  • Android Layout question

    - by Nils
    Hello, I need to create a map with items on it (the map consists of a drawable object, which represents a room) and I thought about using buttons with background images for the items so that they are clickable. I guess the AbsoluteLayout fits here the best, but unfortunately it's deprecated. What layout would you recommend me for this kind of application ? Is there another layout which supports X/Y coordinates ?

  • Android: View.getTag/setTag and IllegalArgumentException

    - by Sparafusile
    Yes, I know you need a unique resource id when calling the version of these functions that requires a key, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to create a resource id that can be used in this way. A final variable in my class wont work and neither will a hard coded value. Both threw an IllegalArgumentException. So what gives, how do you use these methods? Spara
