  I want to measure traffic(upload) made by each user on a linux system. Each users runs a rTorrent instance on a specified port. Also users could make traffic through the ftp server (vsftpd). Is there a tool that can monitor traffic for a specified port and for ftp users ?

• Why are there hard faults when my RAM is not 100% used?

  I've got 2GB of RAM and the resource monitor shows that it's only used about 75%. However there are some apps (NetBeans, Visual Studio) that every once in a while start making a lot of hard faults (up to and over 2000/min), thus predictably slowing down to a crawl. How is this so? The memory usage during these "fits" doesn't change. Perhaps it also includes memory mapped files or something?

  I am constructing a list of network interfaces to monitor based on the contents of /proc/net/dev. But I am getting some bogus interfaces in the list: __tmp1104705027 __tmp974528607 Where do those come from? They also show up in /sys/class/net/: # ls -1 /sys/class/net/ eth0 eth1 eth2 eth3 lo sit0 __tmp1104705027 __tmp974528607 For now, I think I'll just ignore anything starting with __tmp, but I'd like to know what they are and where they come from. This is on a recompiled CentOS 5.3 kernel: 2.6.18-128.7.1.el5.tvh.7PAE #1 SMP PREEMPT

• How to see if turbo boost is working on I7 860 CPU?

  I just build myself a new system with a Intel I7 860 CPU. When loading it using a single threaded application like Super PI, CPU-Z shows 2.933Ghz as speed. Now I understood that the I7 goes into turbo boost mode up to 3.46GHz for a single core. How can I check that? Is there a utility to monitor CPU speed per core?

• MaxiVista alternative for extending desktop onto another laptop's display? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Can I use my laptop as a second monitor for my desk computer? Am I wrong when I say that apart from MaxiVista, there is currently no way to do this? Or perhaps there is some combination of using VNC with something else to achieve this? If there is no way, does anybody know if there are any open source projects working on this problem? Thanks!

• Sysinternal's Process Explorer v14 doesn't show network activity.

  The new version of Process Explorer shows network activity history, but it doesn't in one of my computers. This particular PC runs Windows XP SP3 and it has just been reformatted so everything is "fresh". I have even installed WinPCap and Microsoft Network monitor, in case some of these drivers were necessary, but the graph stays in 0. Any ideas why this could happen? I would ask in Sysinternal's forum, but I really don't want to register in yet another forum.

  I have a Dell Precision M4500, Intel Core i5 CPU, running Linux (Ubuntu Lucid), and would like to keep an eye on CPU temperature. I've tried lm-sensors: sensors-detect didn't find any sensors; following its hint ("This is relatively common on laptops, where thermal management is handled by ACPI rather than the OS.") I tried acpi -V but got nothing thermal. The Gnome panel applet "Hardware Sensors Monitor" reports on GPU temperature but nothing else. What should I be trying next?

  I'm trying to monitor CPU utilization of windows 7 32bit PC (C2D E8400) using zabbix. I tried both "perf_counter[\Processor Information(_Total)\% Processor Time]" and "system.cpu.util[,system,avg5]". After some time status of these items reverted itself to "Unsupported". Is this problem on agent side, or at server? How to fix it? Ideally I want to see percentages load per each core. UPD: topic and description updated.

  Hello, I am trying to run process(console executable) on remote PC from asp.net application using WMI and get "Access is denied" problem. I have checked all event viewer logs on remote PC, no information related this. Where do I start searching for problem? Does Windows has some kind of permission monitor tool?   Windows 7 has a neat feature where the Windows Key in conjunction with the arrow keys tiles the active window. Windows key + left arrow moves it to the left half, windows key + right arrow moves your window to the right half of your monitor. Is there an equivalent to this functionality in OS X? Can anyone suggest some alternative metaphors by which to manage my windows? I find that OSX windows tend to be a bit more scatterbrained than their windows counterparts.

  When I reboot my Ubuntu 10.04 nodes, I'd like to be able to see the kernel boot messages when connecting to the IPMI interfaces using Serial Over LAN mode (ttyS0). What do I need to do to be able to redirect these messages to ttyS0? Ideally, I'd like them to also still appear in the usual place (tty0, I think) for when I plug a monitor directly into the box.

  My Del Dimension E521 running Windows 7 puts itself in sleep mode each night -- despite the fact that I have chosen a power option that specifies NEVER Each morning I find the monitor blank and I have to hit the power button on the PC at which point Windows "resumes". There was a filter for daylight, incandescent, fluorescent, etc. After re-installing I can't seem to locate it again. Does anyone know this application?   My Dell XPSM1210 has developed these weird lines right in the middle of the screen. When I connect an external monitor the lines disappear and the display is fine. I would like to know if this is a problem with the screen panel and if it needs replacement is there a place where I could buy one.
