I'm asking because there is a class being offered and I could take it. It is all about requirements analysis. Here is a description: An in-depth study of current research and practice in requirements elicitation, requirements, analysis, requirements specification,requirements verification and validation, and requirements management. Would this type of knowledge be useful for an independent game developer?

    I want to create a python panel for Linux like pypanel or tint2 just for fun and to do practice with python development. Now the problem is: I want to create an auto-generated menu, but I don't know where to start. Where can I find all user's installed software in a Linux distro? I know I should look in the /usr/bin folder, but I don't know if it's really the best thing to do. Is there a way to filter installed apps to avoid dependecies programs?

  • Why would someone want to take over control of my domain name?

    I was approached by a person wanting to help me set up a website. In order to do this he has requested that I allow him to transfer my domain name to his account, for easier management. I would retain the right of usage and he would pay the bill for maintaining the name. This sounds fishy, but I can't figure out what he hopes to gain if this is a scam.   • DOAG 2012 and Educause 2012

    Oracle understands the value of desktop virtualization and how customers have really embraced it as a top tier method to deliver access to applications and data. Just as supporting operating systems other than Windows in the enterprise desktop space started to become necessary perhaps 5-7 years ago, supporting desktop virtualization with VDI, application virtualization, thin clients, and tablet access is becoming necessary today in 2012. Any application strategy needs to have a secure mobile component, and a solution that gives you a holistic strategy across both mobile and fixed-asset (i.e., desktop PCs) devices is crucial to success. This means it's probably useful to learn about desktop virtualization, even if it's not in your typical area of responsibility. A good way to do that is at one of the many trade shows where we exhibit. Here are two examples:  DOAG 2012 Conference + Exhibition The DOAG Conference is fast approaching, starting November 20th in Nuremberg, Germany. If you've been reading this blog for a while, you might remember that we attended last year as well. This conference is fantastic for us because we get to speak directly to users of Oracle products. In many cases, those DBAs, IT managers, and other infrastructure folks are looking for ways to deal with the burgeoning BYOD model, as well as ways of streamlining their standard desktop and access technologies. We have a couple of sessions where you can learn a great deal about how Oracle can help with these points. There's no need for our product teams to setup individual laptops for demos -- we can display a standardized Windows desktop virtual machine with their apps all ready to go on a whole bunch of devices like your standard trade show laptop, our Sun Ray Clients, and iPad.   • What is the diffference between "data hiding" and "encapsulation"?

    I'm reading "Java concurrency in practice" and there is said: "Fortunately, the same object-oriented techniques that help you write well-organized, maintainable classes - such as encapsulation and data hiding -can also help you crate thread-safe classes." The problem #1 - I never heard about data hiding and don't know what it is. The problem #2 - I always thought that encapsulation is using private vs public, and is actually the data hiding. Can you please explain what data hiding is and how it differs from encapsulation?

  • Time calculation between openGL update calls.

    In XNA, the system calls update and draw function with the time information. This contains information such as how much time has passed since last update was called. This makes easy to integrate time and do animation calculation accordingly. But I dont see any such mechanism in openGL. I see openGL requires programmers to have their own implementation which could be buggy or inefficient. Is there any standard (and efficient) code that demonstrate this practice in openGL?

  • Has any hobbyist attempted to make a simple VGA-graphics based operating system in machine code?

    I mean real bare bones, bare machine here(no Linux kernel, pre-existing kernel, or any bootloader). I mean honestly write the bootloading software in direct microarchitecture-specific machine opcode, host the operating system, interrupts, I/O, services, and graphical software and all hardware interaction, computation, and design entirely in binary. I know this is quite the leap here, but I was thinking to practice first in x86 assembly (not binary) 16-bit style. Any ideas?

  • Should generated documentation go in version control history?

    I'm against compiled stuff going into version control, specially when it comes to compiled binaries, however, my principles are now in question after adding doxygen support for a project. Should the hundreds of files generated by doxygen go into version control?, what is the recommended practice here?, I think the ideal would be automating the process in a server that publishes that documentation at the same time, however, there is no such server now nor there will be for some time.
