    I'm using a 3rd party lib in my application that throws a java.util.EmptyStackException This only happens during the VM JIT/Warmup Start application Start stress test no rampup. java.util.EmptyStackException thrown Keep application and redo stress test. No exception thrown Shutdown application Start application Start stress test with rampup. No exception thrown I could keep reproducing this over and over. Anyone have any ideas on how I can trace this so I can give more info to the vendor? Or why it could even be happening? Thanks

  • Network license control for a Java application

    I have been tasked with providing some form of network license control for a Java application. The app would be stored on a network drive and run from a client machine. The basic idea is that it will be able to work out how many times it is being run concurrently and prevent the N+1th user from running the software where N is the number of concurrent licenses the customer has purchased. Is this possible somehow with a Java application? I implemented a "solution" which relied on multi-cast UDP communication between the running instances of the application but this didn't work because on most networks this kind of communication is blocked by security measures. Is there a better way? I don't even mind if it requires JNI/JNA. N.B. The solution does not have to be that sophisticated or highly secure.

    I am new to Java, so I am not aware of the nitty gritties. Why can't I create generic array of parametrized ArrayList? Instead I have to write, ArrayList<String>[] alist = new ArrayList[10]; or I have to create List of ArrayLists. Aren't arrays supposed to be more efficient than ArrayLists? Then why doesn't Java allow it? Also, what is the difference between following two lines. ArrayList<String>[] alist = new ArrayList[10]; ArrayList<String>[] alist = new ArrayList<?>[10];

Any IOExceptions which might occur in the method should be passed back to the method's caller.     According to http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/java/lang/Thread.State.html calling wait() will result a thread to go in BLOCKED state. However this piece of code will result (after being called) in a Thread in WAITING State. class bThread extends Thread { public synchronized void run() { try { wait(); } catch (InterruptedException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } } Have I got something wrong? Can anybody explain this behaviour to me? Any help would be appreciated!

    I am interested in creating a simple web application that will take in user input, convert it to an XML file and send the file to a database. Coding wise I feel I am okay, it is just the general setup and what implementation to use I am a bit unsure of. At the moment I have a JSP page containing a form, the user fills out the form and on submit a get method is sent to a servlet, in the servlet doGet() method the servlet is instantiating a java object and passing it the user inputted data. The java object then writes that data to an XML file and sends it to the database via REST. All I would be interested to know is if this the standard/optimal way of creating such a web application. Any and all feedback is appreciated. Thanks

    Good day! I have 2 Projects in my Eclipse. MainActivity1 and MainActivity2 are the names of the activities. The MainActivity2 is connected to the MainActivity1 via Project in the properties of the MainActivity1. So far, I can call the package of the MainActivity2 from the MainActivity1. Now, below are my problem: I have a button in MainActivity1. What I want to do is after I click on the button in the MainActivity1, it runs the MainActivity2 project and some variables will be passed on to the MainActivity2. I've been searching in google for a while now and I couldn't get the right keyword for it. I've checked some of the questions here in StackOverflow but I'm unable to locate the problem similar to mine with calling and running the MainActivity2 class from the MainActivity1.java I'm a noob in Android Java but have knowledge in other OOP. Any tips will be a great help. Thanks

    I need to load a library written in C on java. I have only dlls and header files. Since I didn't understand how to translate pointers or other derivated types from JNI documentation I tried to use an automating tool for this, gluegen and SWIG, but I couldn't manage on how to use them. I tried to create an interface file for SWIG but it only gives errors. Is there an example on how to load a dll to a java program using ANY tool that works and can generate translated C function and types from .h files ?

    I know that Java enums are compiled to classes with private constructors and a bunch of public static members. When comparing two members of a given enum, I've always used .equals(), e.g. public useEnums(SomeEnum a) { if(a.equals(SomeEnum.SOME_ENUM_VALUE)) { ... } ... } However, I just came across come code that uses the equals operator == instead: public useEnums2(SomeEnum a) { if(a == SomeEnum.SOME_ENUM_VALUE) { ... } ... } I've been programming in Java for 5+ years, and I thought I understood difference between the two - but I'm still scratching my head at which one is more correct. Which operator is the one I should be using?

  • Starting out with OpenGL when most tutorials are out of date

    I'm sure there are already a bunch of questions like this asked, but the constant updating of the OpenGL library throws them all away, and in a month or two, the answers here will be worthless again. I am ready to start programming in OpenGL using C++. I've got a working compiler (DevCpp; do NOT ask me to switch to VC++, and don't ask me why). Now I'm just looking for a solid tutorial on how to program with OpenGL. My assistant found the tutorial provided by NeHe Productions, but as I've come to find out, it's WAY OUT OF DATE! (although I did pull together a basic window to support an OpenGL canvas) Then I went online, and found the OpenGL SuperBible, which apparently uses freeglut? But what I'd like to know is whether or not SuperBible 5th edition is up to date any longer. The suggestion to freeglut I found said the latest version was 2.6.0 but now it's 2.8.0! Is the OpenGL SuperBible still a good, and fairly up-to-date place to start? Is there a better place to go to learn OpenGL? Am I allowed to simply store freeglut in the DevCpp include directory (maybe in GL), or is there some important procedure? Are there any comments or suggestions that I didn't think to ask since I'm only just beginning? @dreta cleared some things up for me, so now I have a better idea of what to ask: I think I'd like to start out with OpenGL using a wrapper library instead of directly accessing OpenGL.I just think that, for a beginner, it would be easier for me to program and get good results, while I don't yet have to understand all the grimy details (as @stephelton mentioned). The problem is, I can't find any library that doesn't have undefined references to no longer supported functions. Freeglut sounds operational, but it still uses GLU.Does anyone know what I can do?Also, I tried compiling the first SuperBible's source, but I got errors since GLAPI is not being defined as a type, the error originating in the GLU library. I'd like to use the SuperBible, but I don't know how to fix this.

  • Tip: Keeping the ADF Mobile PDF Guide up to date

    This is a little tip for customers using Oracle's ADF Mobile. If you're like me, it's possible you don't rely on the online HTML version of the Mobile Developer's Guide for ADF, but rather download a PDF version of the file to use locally (look to the "PDF" link to the top right of the guide).  For me the convenience of the PDF is it's faster, I can search the whole document easily, I can split read the document across two pages on my home monitor, if I lose my internet connection the document is still available, and it's easy to read on my iPad (especially on long haul flights to the US across the Pacific where there is no internet connection!). The trigger point for me to download the Oracle PDF documentation has always been on a new point release of JDeveloper.  However in the case of ADF Mobile, as an extension to JDeveloper it is releasing at a much faster and independent schedule to JDeveloper and this includes updates to the documentation. As such the 11.1.2.4.0 ADF Mobile PDF guide you have locally might be out of date and you should take the opportunity to download the latest version.  This is also particularly important for ADF Mobile as not only are many new features being added for each release and included in the new documentation, but the guide is under rapid improvement to clarify much of what has been written to date.  Our documentation teams are super responsive to suggestions on how to improve the guides and this often shows per point release. How do you tell you've the latest guide? Look to the document part number which right now is "E24475-03".  This is a unique ID per release for the document, the first part being the document number, and the part after the dash the revision number.  If the website document number has a higher revision number, time to download a new up to date PDF.     What my app here basically does is it captures a photo or import from gallery, and when the Upload button is pressed, the image will be uploaded to a localhost server. Before I implemented AsyncTask into the process, it doesn't have any problem uploading whatsoever. Now that I've put AsyncTask, everything went wrong.     I've written an RSS feed parser in Java (running on Android) and it parses some feeds perfectly, and others not at all.
