jQuery extend $.fn and calling method syntax

I understand that you call a method like this when you are extending $.fn. ( $ == jQuery ) //$("div").myMethod(); $.fn.extend({ myMethod: function(){...} }); And like this when you extend the jQuery Object: //$.myMethod2(); $.extend({ myMethod2: function(){...} }); But I don't quite understand what the $() is doing here: $().functionName({ something: 'something' }).myMethod(); Does it have to do with the fact the method is being called including the function name? Thanks in advance and hope this makes sense.

Hi I am using jquery 1.3.2 and asp.net mvc 1.0. Originally I was using some other rich html editor but I ran into one major problem when a user pasted in text from open office or MS office it would bring along tons of styling junk. If a user like wrote one sentence what was like 25 characters and pasted that into my current html editor the count would 25,000 characters and I don't want to store all that junk( I can't afford to). So tinyMCE seems to not have this problem. However I got some questions. It seems if you want to use for commercial use(what my site is but currently is not making very much at this time) you need to get a commercial license. However it does not say if it is free or if it will cost money. I am assuming it means that you will have to pay but I would like to confirm this. So do you have to pay for a license to use tinyMCe if your using it for commercial use? (Yes/ No) ------------------ Answer the following questions if you said "no" to the first question ----------- So would I use the jQuery package then or is it better to use the other versions? What is this .net compressor zip for? Do I need it? I only want a few of the buttons(like bold,font size) can I remove the other buttons? It seems to display a word count. WPF Beginner - A simple XAML layout not working as expected

Hi, I've just started learning WPF, and followed a book to make this sample calculator application in XAML. The XAML code is attached below. I don't have any UI specific code in the xaml.cs file. However, I'm seeing a difference between design time and runtime. As you can see in the attached screenshot, the upper left button of the calculator is bigger than the rest. Even more confusingly, the designer when I edit the XAML shows the button correctly. I've tried to determine why is that, and I'm stumped. Can anyone help? I'm using VS2008, targeting framework 3.5, if it's any help. z-index not working in IE8 with the sortable jQuery plugin

I'm working with the jQuery Sortable plugin to drag and drop images from one box to another box. This works fine in ff,chrome and safari but it fails in IE8. It seems that when you start dragging that the image is send to the back. I've tried to solve this by adding the z-index option to the sortable plugin, i've tried appending it to a node higher in the hierarchy (body). It appears that setting a z-index on every other item in the page would fix this, haven't tried it yet and i'm not planning on doing this because this would mess up alot. Touchpad button assignments don't persist with Lenovo T400 on WinXP

I have a Lenovo T400 notebook with Windows XP on it. I usually use the TrackPoint, and almost never use the TouchPad. I do a look of work on Linux over VNC, in my setup the middle mouse button is mapped to "paste". Considering that the notebook doesn't really have a middle button (it's only a scrolling button) I mapped the unused left button of the TouchPad to be a middle button. However, when I send the computer to Standby and bring it out, the left button reverts to being a left button, not a middle one. How can I make sure that the mapping persists?

Remapping button numbers on a five button mouse on Mac (or alternative solution?)

Is this possible? I have two mice connected at once (one on each side, so I can swap hands to help ease RSI). One is a 5 button mouse, the other 3 buttons. I like to set the 3 button's third button to Mac's expose, but the button I'd like to use for this on the 5 button mouse is the fifth button. Is it possible to change the fifth button to the third on this mouse? Or could you suggest an alternative solution? Thanks.

I need to know how can I enable mouse click on a button when I have a MouseEvent listener for the stage. I have a MClip associated with the mouse cursor: Mouse.hide(); scope.startDrag(true); And an MouseEnvet on the stage: stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, FunctionXYZ); When I try to click on any button they don't assume the function that I create for those buttons... for example, button for fullscreen, exit, help, etc... Power button missing

An almost clean install of Ubuntu 13.10 keeps hiding the power button. I noticed before that my clock and power button were missing in the right top corner. I rebooted my system and they were back. Now I see my power button only is missing. How do I go about fixing this? I can't keep rebooting, can I? The latest thing I did was removing Ubuntu One: Removing Ubuntu One I don't think I did something that might've tinkered with these settings though.

The site is somewhat like Yelp but for different topics. I am wondering which button to put there. Does it do any good to have individual pages "liked" and does it show anywhere besides on that page? I've tied in the code for the facebook like button from the facebook dev site (I currently use the iframe version) directly into the html of a node (or content post). If there is no way to directly alter what is sent, does anyone know what it looks for in content to be sent so I can structure the node correctly? If you notice, when you like the page, it doesn't get the first sentence of the content, but all content after it, and I've tried putting different content in between the two lines (in its own <p>) and it still grabs the latter. Also how it figures out which image to grab from the page? Most times it doesn't take any image, however twice it's grabbed the middle school image.

Sensitive middle-button (mouse)

Whenever I click on the middle-button on my mouse-wheel, it seems that multiple click events are being sent in succession. Case in point: when I middle-click a bookmark folder in Chrome (to open up all the bookmarks in tabs), Chrome opens up the same set of bookmarks three times. This is very annoying. Is there a way in X or Gnome to detune the sensitivity of my mouse's middle button to prevent multiple click events from being sent? Maybe like a double-click speed adjustment for the middle-button?

jqGrid dynamic select option

I'm creating a jqgrid with drop down columns and I'm using cell editing. I need the options of the drop down columns to change dynamically and I've tried implementing this by setting the column to be: { name: "AccountLookup", index: "AccountLookup", width: 90, editable: true, resizable: true, edittype: "select", formatter: "select" }, and then in the beforeCellEdit event I have: beforeEditCell: function(id, name, val, iRow, iCol) { if(name=='AccountLookup') { var listdata = GetLookupValues(id, name); if (listdata == null) listdata = "1:1"; jQuery("#grid").setColProp(name, { editoptions: { value: listdata.toString()} }) } }, GetLookupValues just returns a string in the format "1:One;2:Two" etc. That works fine however the options are populated one click behind - ie i click on AccountID in row 1, and the dropdown is empty, however when I then click on AccountID in row 3 the options I set in the row 1 click are shown in the row 3 click. And so on. So always one click behind. Is there another way of achieving what I need? Bacially the dropdown options displayed are always changing and I need to load them as user enters the cell for editing. Perhaps I can somehow get at the select control in the beforeEditCell event and manually enter its values instead of using the setColProp call? If so could I get an example of doing that please? Another thing - if the dropdown is empty and a user doesn't cancel the cell edit, the grid script throws an error. I'm using clientarray editing if that makes a difference. Showing right sub-ul of parent ul menu

Hello, i have this html menu: <ul id='main'> <li class='active current' id='lighty'> <a href='/'>Lighty</a> <ul> <li class='sub'> <a href='/'>Hem</a> </li> </ul> </li> <li id='community'> <a href='/community'>Community</a> </li> </ul> And this jquery: $("#menu ul > li").mouseenter(function(){ id = $(this).attr("id"); $("#menu #main li").removeClass("active"); $(this).addClass("active"); }).mouseleave(function(){ id = $(this).attr("id"); menu.timers[id] = setTimeout(function(){$("#menu #main li#"+id).removeClass("active");}, 2000); }); What i am trying to acomplish is that when i hover one of the li's in the main ul the child ul of that li should be displayed. and when i move the mouse out of the li or the child ul the menu should be visible for 2 seconds. It works through the main li button but if on the child ul and move out it just disapears, it doesnt wait for two seconds. The waiting two seconds is so you can go in to the menu if you accidentaly move the mouse out of it. Can anybody help me to fix this error? Maybe you have a better solution? Problem with qTip - Tips not showing because elements load after the script

Hey, I'm not very experienced with javascript, jQuery or it's plugins but usually I manage. Anyways, my client is building a site and one of its purposes is to pick up news articles from different sites and show the titles in unordered html lists. I don't have access to his code, the news articles load up rather slow(much after the site has loaded). I'm using qTIP and the idea is that once you hover over a news title, it will generate a tooltip. This works fine in my dev environment, because I have dummy title's that are not generated from anywhere. The problem is that once the client sets the site up in his test environment, the scripts that load the news titles into the lists are so slow, that the qTIP-script loads before there are any elements in the lists. Hence it's not aware of any <li>'s to pick up and generate tooltips from. Is there a way make sure that ALL of the news articles are loaded before the tooltip-script loads? I think that a simple delay in loading the script is not very smart because some of the titles seem to take longer to load than others, so the delay would have to be rather long.
