• SQL to return the rownum of a specific row? (using Oracle db)

  In Oracle 10g, I have this SQL: select dog.id as dogId from CANINES dog order by dog.codename asc which returns: id -- 204 203 206 923 I want to extend this query to determine the oracle rownum of a dog.id in this resultset. I have tried select rownum from (select dog.id as dogId from CANINES dog order by dog.codename asc) where dog.id=206 But this does not work out very well (it returns 1 no matter which dog.id I match on). • Options to efficiently synchronize 1 million files with remote servers?

  At a company I work for we have such a thing called "playlists" which are small files ~100-300 bytes each. There's about a million of them. About 100,000 of them get changed every hour. These playlists need to be uploaded to 10 other remote servers on different continents every hour and it needs to happen quick in under 2 mins ideally. It's very important that files that are deleted on the master are also deleted on all the replicas. We currently use Linux for our infrastructure. I was thinking about trying rsync with the -W option to copy whole files without comparing contents. I haven't tried it yet but maybe people who have more experience with rsync could tell me if it's a viable option? What other options are worth considering?

I'm having an issue with Workoutitems and Workout. Workout will be managed separately, but Workoutitems has a single workout associated with each row. Workout - just a list of types of workouts (run, lift, situps, etc) Selected workout - this is the name of a set of workouts, along with notes by the user and trainer. • How to let Linux Python application handle termination on user logout correctly?

  I have written a Linux GUI application in Python that needs to do some cleanup tasks before being terminated when the user logs out. Unfortunately it seems, that on logout, all applications are killed. I tried both to handle POSIX signals and DBUS notifications, but nothing worked. Any idea what I could have made wrong? On application startup I register some termination handlers: # create graceful shutdown mechanisms signal.signal(signal.SIGTERM, self.on_signal_term) self.bus = dbus.SessionBus() self.bus.call_on_disconnection(self.on_session_disconnect) When the user logs out, neither self.on_signal_term nor self.on_session_disconnect are called.   I am developing an application and need to read the users call history from iPhone.I have go though all the forums and google it and found that we can get the records from teh callHistory sqlite database by "private/var/root/Library/CallHistory/call_history.db". But this path is not working from iOS 5 and above. Seems like apple has changed all their database path and structure so that no one can accees it. I have also seen some of the application on iTunes who are capable of getting the users call history like:-https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/callog/id327883585?mt=8 I have also check a mac desktop utility called "WonderShare Dr.Fone" which will fetch all the data from your iPhone like call history messages, notes , etc.How this utility is fetching the call history records and other details? If their is any API or private APIs by which i can get the callHistory data path please let me know.

• Can I detect unused extra parameters passed to javascript methods?

  In Javascript I can call any method with more than the necessary amount of parameters and the extra parameters are silently ignored. e.g. letters = ['a','b','c'] //correct letters.indexOf('a') //This also works without error or warning letters.indexOf('a', "blah", "ignore me", 38) Are there ways to detect cases where this occurs? My motivation is that in my experience cases where this occurs are usually bugs. Identification of these by code analysis or at runtime would help track these errors down. These cases are especially prevalent where people are expecting alterations to base types which may not have occurred. Logging a warning where this happens e.g. Date.parse('02--12--2012', 'dd--MM--YYYY') Notes: To be clear I would like a solution that doesn't involve me sprinkling checks all over my code and other peoples' code.

• Filter tagged threads in Thunderbird

  I have a big issue with Thunderbird, I need to process a lot of emails coming from request tracking system. Since only few of those apply to me personally, I tag these threads with appropriate tags. The issue now is that I would like to filter out threads, that do apply to me and those that I haven't tagged yet. I'm unable to do this, because new emails keep arriving into the already existing threads, and of course, these new emails don't get the tags. Basically I would need some sort of filtering rule, that would apply not to a specific message, but the master message in the thread. Is there some possibility to create such filters, or is there some other facility, that would allow me to do the same? Tags are great, since they are actually saved into the messages and correctly sync across multiple machines when using IMAP.

  *Its only Debug-time error, but a very weird one. Problem: While running with Debugger attached and calling a method, exposed in separate Portable library, returning ConfiguredTaskAwaitable, we get InvalidProgramException. Repro: Having 2 projects: PortableClassLibrary (supporting .Net 4.5; Windows Store; Windows Phone 8) with 1 class: public class Weird { public static ConfiguredTaskAwaitable GetConfiguredTaskAwaitable() { return new ConfiguredTaskAwaitable(); } } ConsoleApplication with code: static void Main(string[] args) { Weird.GetConfiguredTaskAwaitable(); } Notes: replacing ConfiguredTaskAwaitable with ConfiguredTaskAwaitable<T> (a generic version) fixes this strange issue consuming this method form WP8 or Win8 app under Debugger works fine. Currently it causes problems cause I cant run my Unit Tests under Debugger. I'm forced to change my "ObjectUnderTest" implementation to return generic ConfiguredTaskAwaitable<T>, which is fine for the real project, but still is only a workaround. The Question is: does anybody knows the reason of this error? It definitely related to Portable Class Library magic.

  I'm trying to write a puppet template. I have a puppet-master and a few puppet-agents and they all must be divided. I think it's good to do this by the node's hostname. • How to sync apps with one Mac and 3 devices?

  We have 1 Mac, with 1 iTunes account, and 3 iOS devices. Every time we sync one device, iTunes either spams it with ALL apps from ALL devices, OR it removes all of the apps from the device including all the data. Which is very annoying. Someone told me there is a way to tell iTunes to keep separate track of the devices. How can I setup iTunes such that it will not transfer all my iPhone-only apps to my iPad every time I sync? Basically I want the devices to be the "master". They give the direction which apps should be on the device, and not the other way around.

• Reducing volume of an audio device on windows 7

  I have a USB headset with a very loud amplifier, but low granularity in its gain control. In order to get comfortable audio, I have to reduce the individual application levels in the mixer to '1', and the master mixer to around '10'. Of course, new applications start out at '10', and immediately blast out my ears. Is there a way to add a filter to cut down the volume some so I can get better control of it? That is, reduce the volume of '100' so I can work within a reasonable range.

• Git: get back my commited data from a messed up local repo

  I am a newbie to git so I think I made something stupid (will move back to hg soon ;-)) Assume I'm at version A and I commited a change but didn't want that. Now assume we have version B. I didn't found a good solution how to cleanly roll B back to A but went back to A via checkout and continued commiting - assume I have version C. A--->B \-->C Now the problem is that those commits were successfull (I can see the SHA's and the msg in .git/logs/HEAD) but the commits do not show up in the log and I couldn't push them to github. Before detecting the mess I checkout to 'master' ... and git rolled all back to B. How can I get my version C back or are my changes lost? Is this the same problem as described here? Please close. • Can you remap "C:\Program Files" like you can with "My Documents"?

  I'm not sure if this is possible, but I'm hoping you guys will know one way or the other! I'm going to be reinstalling windows xp, and the primary master IDE is a smaller 10 gig drive. I'm pretty sure that if I tried to install all my programs back onto the C:\ drive that they'd not all fit. Is it possible to get my Program Files directory to point to a partition on one of my larger drives, so I don't end up with some of my programs on C:\ and others on D:\, E:\, etc?

Our 'master.cf' contains: 2526 inet n - - - 0 cleanup This is necessary because we have a cluster of SMTP servers running custom code, and they can all inject mail to the centralized postfix server via the cleanup daemon. However, we want to allow only our authorized servers to connect to the cleanup daemon. The current configuration allows any host to connect to port 2526. Clearly we can use iptables to restrict access, but is there a way to do this within postfix itself?

• How do I download an attachment from an annotation using client-side JScript?

  I'm trying to provide a link to the attachment of a note through the client-side JScript. The standard MS-made Notes component does this through the following url: [serverurl]/[appname]/Activities/Attachment/download.aspx?AttachmentType=5&AttachmentId={blahblahblah}&IsNotesTabAttachment=1&CRMWRPCToken=blahblahblah&CRMWRPCTokenTimeStamp=blahblahblah The problem is that I don't know how to get the Token or TokenTimeStamp, so I'm receiving an Access Denied error ("form is no longer available, security precaution, etc"). The only other way I can think of doing this is through the OData endpoint, but that would at best get me a base64 string that I still would have translate into a filestream to give to the browser (all of which seems like it would take forever to implement/figure out). • Which relational databases exist with a public API for a high level language?

  We typically interface with a RDBMS through SQL. I.e. we create a sql string and send it to the server through JDBC or ODBC or something similar. Are there any RDBMS that allow direct interfacing with the database engine through some API in Java, C#, C or similar? I would expect an API that allows constructs like this (in some arbitrary pseudo code): Iterator iter = engine.getIndex("myIndex").getReferencesForValue("23"); for (Reference ref: iter){ Row row = engine.getTable("mytable").getRow(ref); } I guess something like this is hidden somewhere in (and available from) open source databases, but I am looking for something that is officially supported as a public API, so one finds at least a note in the release notes, when it changes. In order to make this a question that actually has a 'best' answer: I prefer languages in the order given above and I will prefer mature APIs over prototypes and research work, although these are welcome as well.

• Data transfer is extrem slow after partitioning extern usb drive

  I bought an extern usb 3.0 drive with 500 gb capacity. OS is Windows 7. I use it with an usb 2.0 slot, no prob. Initially I used it without making several partitions and it was fast as hell. Then I had the great idea to make partitions, one for programs, one for data and one for backup. I chose the free EASEUS Partition Master 9.1.1. and ended up with these partitions: F:Apps, primary, NTFS, 100gb H:Data, logic, NTFS, 250gb B:Backup, logic, NTFS, 150gb THE PROBLEM: When I copy files from C: to F: I get a transfer rate of about 100 KB/S ! When I copy files from C: to H: I get a transfer rate of about 4 MB/S ! thats all muuuch to slow, slower then before. What can I do to speed the shit up? Thanks in advance!

• Converting massive images to PDF, without crashing applications

  I'm trying to work with a large-format scanner, and we are scanning very long documents. Example, one of our documents we cut into two pieces, and one of those pieces is 3633x82486 in resolution. My application, Scanning Master 21+, which comes with the device (Graphtec CSX300-09) can output PDF, however when I try to save to PDF it complains about file being too large. I can successfully output to BMP however. GIMP can even open this BMP, after taking a while to load it. The resulting files range from 200MB - 1.2GB in size. Acrobat refuses to open the BMP format, saying it isn't supported or is damaged (which I know is not true). As I mentioned, the PDF plugin for GIMP crashes when I try to export to PDF. I'm really not sure what is the best tool for this job. So what is the best tool to produce PDF documents of very large images?

• Will installing an Ultra ATA cable backwards affect performance?

  I've recently purchased a hard drive upgrade for my Xbox 320GB WD Caviar Blue WD3200AAJB and StarTech.com Ultra ATA/66/100/133 cable IDE66 yes I'm crazy When it came to installing the cable, it was too short (my fault), and there wasn't enough space between the master and slave ends to reach both the DVD drive and the hard drive. The only thing I could do was install the cable backwards and twisting it quite a bit to make it fit. The upgrade works, but reading the manual for the hard drive I replaced (10GB Seagate U Series 5), apparently there is a specific way you have to connect the cable. I don't have that option, so the question comes down to, will my drive performance be at Ultra ATA levels, or is it still performing at original ATA speeds? Is there any way I can test this (benchmarking software for Xbox)?

  I want my web parts to act as providers and consumers with OOTB SharePoint web parts, including filters. To design these web parts I need to know the interface of the OOTB web parts, eg. a "Links" web part provides an IWebPartRow, with a Type, URL and Notes. I can get the information by: a web part programmed to interact generically, and display the data it receives putting the web parts on a page, and look at the available connections inspecting the DLL's (haven't tried this, because I can't find the DLL's, but I guess it's possible) It seems strange to me that there is no documentation of these interfaces. Is there a Microsoft document, or a book, which documents the OOTB web parts and filters?
