  • Sed issue with numbers exceeding 9

    - by Imane Fateh
May be my problem is kinda obvious for you but I really need to get a solution. I need to generate a file.sql file from a file.csv, so I use this command : cat file.csv |sed "s/\(.*\),\(.*\)/insert into table(value1, value2) values\('\1','\2'\);/g" > file.sql It works perfectly, but when the values exceed 9 (for example for \10, \11 etc...) it takes consideration of only the first number (which is \1 in this case) and ignores the rest. I want to know if I missed something or if there is another way to do it. Thank you ! EDIT : The not working example : My file.csv looks like 2013-04-01 04:00:52,2,37,74,40233964,3860,0,0,4878,174,3,0,0,3598,27.00,27 What I get insert into table val1,val2,val3,val4,val5,val6,val7,val8,val9,val10,val11,val12,val13,val14,val15,val16 values ('2013-04-01 07:39:43',2,37,74,36526530,3877,0,0,6080,2013-04-01 07:39:430,2013-04-01 07:39:431,2013-04-01 07:39:432,2013-04-01 07:39:433,2013-04-01 07:39:434,2013-04-01 07:39:435,2013-04-01 07:39:436); After the ninth element I get the first one instead of the 10th,11th etc...

  • Is the community MySQL safe for production use?

    - by n_kips
Or Will I need to get the enterprise version? This is because I found this on MySQL's site: If you are running a MySQL production level system, we would like to direct your attention to the product description of MySQL Enterprise Edition at: http://mysql.com/products/enterprise/ When I check the features, it seems like the community edition does not support transactions, while the enterprise version does. If it is true that the community edition is not right for production, then it seems like posgresql may be my way out, for it supports transactions and it is fully opensource. Will the sql syntax need to change (much) if I have to change? Thank you.

  • Apache/Passenger and cpulimit

    - by Dave Smylie
I run a ruby on rails site that processes email - the email is dumped directly into the web app via a POST from postfix. At times I can get a burst of email coming in causing a prolonged surge in CPU usage making my VPS provider understandable unhappy with me. These emails don't need to be processed in a timely manner - they just need to be (eventually) processed. Obviously I can't just nice the process as that only looks at the cpu usage on my VPS and can't take into account the cpu usage on the other VPS's. I have found a utility called cpulimit that will you put hard limits on cpu usage for a particular process. (eg 20%). This seems ideal for this purpose, but I can't work out to integrate with apache/passenger. Passenger starts up a ruby process for each server and restarts them periodically. Each time the pid will change. Cpulimit needs to be given a pid number for it to act on. Anyone got any ideas how I could get passenger to fire off a call this command when it's starting up this particular virtual host?

  • Passenger connection reset by peer issue

  • After few days of server running fine with nginx it start throwing 499 and 502

    - by Abhay Kumar
    Nginx start throwing 499 and 502 after running fine for few days, website is a rails app using thin as the webserver. Restarting the Nginx doent not seem to help. Below the the Nginx config Nginx config under sites-enabled upstream domain1 { least_conn; server 127.0.0.1:3009; server 127.0.0.1:3010; server 127.0.0.1:3011; } server { listen 80; # default_server; server_name xyz.com *.xyz.com; client_max_body_size 5M; access_log /home/ubuntu/www/xyz/current/log/access.log; root /home/ubuntu/www/xyz/current/public/; index index.html; location / { proxy_set_header X-Real-IP $remote_addr; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; proxy_set_header Host $http_host; proxy_redirect off; proxy_read_timeout 150; if (!-f $request_filename) { proxy_pass http://domain1; break; } } }

  • Apache local verses external (domain)

    - by Jessy Houle
I have an Apache server running on Ubuntu server 10, using Passenger for Ruby on Rails. I have configured my site under the sites-enabled directory of Apache and can hit the server with an internal IP address (192.168.X.X) and the site comes back as expected. However, whenever I try to hit the site externally, either through the domain name or the IP address tied to the domain name, the site will not come back. I have a router in the middle with a static IP address, with Port Forwarding turned on (forwarding 80/443) to the server and I'm quite confident the issue isn't there. In fact, I even DMZed to the Ubuntu Server just to make sure. Also, all router firewall options have been turned off. So here is the question... Is there something else I have to do with Ubuntu server to allow externally requested port 80 traffic? Otherwise, is there some settings that need to be set in Apache to allow domain or external IP address port 80 traffic through? I'm pretty new to Apache, so, please take it a bit easy on me :-) Thank you for your responses. -Jessy Houle

  • unicorn and nginx, went wrong

    - by achempion
I try to deploy my app via capistrano. It was done, but when I start to nginx and show my site in the browser I see 'We're sorry, but something went wrong.' It is bad. I use unicorn. See my configs https://gist.github.com/3904032 I try to start server via rails s -e prodiction and it's work! I think that this error may be because I can't restart server root@li272-194:~# /etc/init.d/nginx restart Restarting nginx: the configuration file /etc/nginx/nginx.conf syntax is ok configuration file /etc/nginx/nginx.conf test is successful [emerg]: bind() to 0.0.0.0:80 failed (98: Address already in use) [emerg]: bind() to 0.0.0.0:80 failed (98: Address already in use) [emerg]: bind() to 0.0.0.0:80 failed (98: Address already in use) [emerg]: bind() to 0.0.0.0:80 failed (98: Address already in use) [emerg]: bind() to 0.0.0.0:80 failed (98: Address already in use) [emerg]: still could not bind() nginx. any ideas? nginx log 2012/10/17 02:57:41 [error] 3271#0: *1 could not find named location "@myapp", client: 91.192.62.77, server: 178.79.153.194, request: "GET / HTTP/1.1", host: "178.79.153.194" 2012/10/17 02:19:08 [crit] 2448#0: *8 connect() to unix:/srv/zarcon/shared/unicorn.sock failed (2: No such file or directory) while connecting to upstream, client: 91.192.62.77, server: zarkon, request: "GET / HTTP/1.1", upstream: "http://unix:/srv/zarcon/shared/unicorn.sock:/", host: "178.79.153.194"

  • Web service for checking out / leasing a token

    - by JP Slavinsky
I run a web site on AWS that has a number of web servers (say 4 of them) running behind a load balancer. For this particular web site, I have one license key of New Relic for doing instrumentation. At any one time, I only want one of the 4 web servers to be using the key. If that server goes offline, I want one of the remaining web servers to be able to begin using the license key. Does anyone know of a service that would let me manage this process? The service would not particularly need to store the key itself but rather just manage the fact that only one web server can lease out the right to use the key at any time. Something where the web servers would have to come back every few minutes and renew their lease, and if they don't it becomes available to someone else. I just realized I could maybe accomplish a hacked version of this using a file on S3, but that doesn't prevent race conditions / etc and is definitely hackish. Any thoughts welcome. FWIW, this site is built on Ruby on Rails. Thanks! JP

  • Passenger and ServerAlias not cooperating

    - by Pyzo
I have a ruby application that runs on a server with multiple IP addresses and mutliple vhosts. Here is the configuration of the problematic virtual host: <VirtualHost 10.0.0.10:80> ServerName realname.example.com ServerAlias alias.example.com DocumentRoot /var/www/sites/example/current/public <Directory /var/www/sites/example/current/public> AllowOverride all Options -MultiViews </Directory> ErrorLog /var/log/httpd/example_error_log CustomLog /var/log/httpd/example_access_log common RailsEnv production RackEnv production </VirtualHost> When I pull up realname.example.com the Ruby on Rails application works correctly. On the other hand alias.example.com just gives me Not Found: / I'm fairly certain the correct vhost is getting used because alias.example.com produces a 404 in the correct log file. I've tried adding logging to the Passenger config and it seems to indicate that Passenger is getting the request. Note: I can't redirect alias.example.com to realname.example.com. realname is accessed using a CDN, whereas alias is directly accessed. Anyone have any ideas why this isn't working? I've been banging my head for days and I've got a similar configuration in QA that works as expected.

  • Exception with RubyAMF and Ruby 1.9 although code works

I'm getting an exception with RubyAMF using Ruby 1.9 and Rails 2.3.5. Although code afterward executes normally I'm not very comfortable with seeing such exception in the log file. Do you know what is causing it: >>>>>>>> RubyAMF >>>>>>>>> #<RubyAMF::Actions::PrepareAction:0x0000010139ff48> took: 0.00020 secs >>>>>>>> RubyAMF >>>>>>>>> #<RubyAMF::Actions::RailsInvokeAction:0x0000010139ff10> took: 0.29973 secs You have a nil object when you didn't expect it! • HELP!! Delayed-job: Rake aborted! Can't modify frozen hash

    - by pmneve
Too bad even the trace doesn't say which hash is involved. Sorry this post is long: am trying to provide enough context to be meaningful. Occurs intermittently when rake jobs:work is pulling a command out of delayed_jobs while my status observer is in the process of parsing a log file for detailed results of the previous delayed_job denizen. I have an observer class (in RAILS_ROOT/lib ) which listens for the events, makes a copy of them and calls the owner class ( in apps/models ) which then calls on the log parser (also in /lib) to do the actual work. (Should both of those classes, the observer and the parser be in app/models?) Am due to deliver this application in a few days and this is killing it (and me). Am using DirectoryWatcher to look for flag files that indicate the start and finish of the delayed_jobs. That is started at the end of environment.rb like this: require 'directory_watcher' $scriptStatusObserver = ScriptStatusObserver.new dirToWatch ="#{RAILS_ROOT}/tmp/flags" $directoryWatcher = DirectoryWatcher.new( dirToWatch ) $directoryWatcher.glob= "*.flg" $directoryWatcher.interval=(15) $directoryWatcher.add_observer( $scriptStatusObserver ) $directoryWatcher.persist=("#{RAILS_ROOT}/tmp/flags/dw_state.yml") $directoryWatcher.start at_exit { $directoryWatcher.stop } This code is outside of the run method (btw is that the best place or is inside the run better?) Here is the observer: require 'script_run' class ScriptStatusObserver def initialize @rcvdEvents = [] end def update( *events ) begin puts "#{LINE.to_s}: ScriptStatusObserver events: \n"+events.to_yaml cnt = 0 events.each do |e| if e.to_s.match(/^\s*added/) cnt = cnt + 1 @rcvdEvents << e end end ScriptRun.new.catch_up( @rcvdEvents ) if cnt > 0 @rcvdEvents.clear rescue puts $! end end end Here is ScriptRun (it attaches to an associative table built with has_many:through) require 'observer' class ScriptRun < ActiveRecord::Base set_table_name "scripts_runs" belongs_to :script belongs_to :run def parse( result ) parser = LogParser.new parser.parse(result) end def catch_up( events ) events.each do |e| typ = e.type path = e.path thisMatch = path.match(/flags\/(\d+)_(\d+)_([\d\.]+)_(\w+)\.flg/) run_id = thisMatch[1] script_id = thisMatch[2] ts = thisMatch[3] status = thisMatch[4] if e.to_s.match(/^\s*added/) status_update( script_id, run_id, status, ts, path ) end end end def status_update( script_id, run_id, status, ts, path ) scriptrun = ScriptRun.find(:first, :conditions => [ "run_id = ? and script_id = ?", run_id.to_i, script_id.to_i ]) if scriptrun.kind_of?(ScriptRun) currStatus = scriptrun.status if not currStatus == 'completed' scriptrun.update_attribute(:status, status) if status == 'parse' flag = File.new(path) logSpec = flag.gets flag.close logName = File.basename(logSpec) logPath = logSpec.sub(logName, '') logName =~ /^(([\w_]+)_([\w]+)_(\d+))\.log$/ name = $1 basename = $2 runenv = $3 tsOrPid = $4 result = Result.new result.log_path = logPath result.basename = basename result.name = name result.script_id = script_id.to_i result.run_id = run_id.to_i if runenv == 'sit' runenv = 'SIT3348' end result.application_environment_id = ApplicationEnvironment.find(:first, :conditions => [ "nodename = ?", runenv]).id parse(result) if run_completed?( run_id ) myRun = Run.find(run_id.to_i) if myRun.kind_of?( Run ) myRun.update_attribute( :completed, Time.now.to_f ) end end end end else puts "#{__LINE__.to_s}: ScriptRun.status_update: ScriptRun not found for run #{run_id} script #{script_id} ts #{ts.to_s}" end File.delete(path) end def run_completed?( id ) scriptruns = ScriptRun.find(:all, :conditions = [ "run_id = ?", id.to_i] ) scriptruns.each do |sr| if not sr.status == 'completed' return false end end return true end end LogParser is too long even for this post but it reads the script log and pulls detailed information (counts and timings) out of the log and writes to a details table. • OpenStreetMap and Hadoop

    - by portoalet
Hi, I need some ideas for a weekend project about Hadoop and OpenStreetMap. I have access to AWS EC2 instance with OpenStreetMap snapshot in my EBS volume. The OpenStreetMap data is in a PostgreSQL database. What kind of MapReduce function can be run on the OpenStreetMap data, assuming I can export them into xml format, and then place into HDFS ? In other words, I am having a brain cramp at the moment, and cannot think what kind of MapReduce operation that can extract valuable insight from the OpenStreetMap xml? (i.e. extract all the places designated as park or golf course. But this needs to be done once only, not continuously) Many Thanks

  • How to set up an insert to a grails created file with next sequence number?

    - by Jack BeNimble
I'm using a JMS queue to read from and insert data into a postgres table created by grails. The problem is obtaining the next sequence value. I thought I had found the solution with the following statement (by putting "DEFAULT" where the ID should go), but it's no longer working. I must have changed something, because I needed to recreate the table. What's the best way to get around this problem? ps = c.prepareStatement("INSERT INTO xml_test (id, version, xml_text) VALUES (DEFAULT, 0, ?)"); UPDATE: In response to the suggested solution, I did the following: Added this to the the domain: class XmlTest { String xmlText static constraints = { id generator:'sequence', params:[name:'xmltest_sequence'] } } And changed the insert statement to the following: ps = c.prepareStatement("INSERT INTO xml_test (id, version, xml_text) VALUES (nextval('xmltest_sequence'), 0, ?)"); However, when I run the statement, I get the following error: [java] 1 org.postgresql.util.PSQLException: ERROR: relation "xmltest_sequence" does not exist Any thoughts?

  • Random Page Cost and Planning

    - by Dave Jarvis
A query (see below) that extracts climate data from weather stations within a given radius of a city using the dates for which those weather stations actually have data. The query uses the table's only index, rather effectively: CREATE UNIQUE INDEX measurement_001_stc_idx ON climate.measurement_001 USING btree (station_id, taken, category_id); Reducing the server's configuration value for random_page_cost from 2.0 to 1.1 had a massive performance improvement for the given range (nearly an order of magnitude) because it suggested to PostgreSQL that it should use the index. While the results now return in 5 seconds (down from ~85 seconds), problematic lines remain. Bumping the query's end date by a single year causes a full table scan: sc.taken_start >= '1900-01-01'::date AND sc.taken_end <= '1997-12-31'::date AND How do I persuade PostgreSQL to use the indexes regardless of years between the two dates? (A full table scan against 43 million rows is probably not the best plan.) Find the EXPLAIN ANALYSE results below the query. Thank you! • strange SqlAlchemy update behaviour

    - by Max
    I'm new to SqlAlchemy and Elixir, so I've started from tutorial and tried to create table, insert a record, and then update it as follows: #'elixir_test.py' from elixir import * metadata.bind = "postgresql://myuser:mypwd@localhost:5432/dbname" metadata.bind.echo = True class Movie(Entity): title = Field(Unicode(30)) year = Field(Integer) description = Field(UnicodeText) def __repr__(self): return '<Movie "%s" (%d)>' % (self.title, self.year) and in another file in the same directory: from elixir_test import * setup_all() #create table create_all() Movie(title=u"Blade Runner", year=1982) #add record session.commit() #get records Movie.query.all() #trying to update record and commit changes, BUT... movie = Movie.query.first() movie.year = 1983 session.commit() #now we have two records in our table, one #with year=1982 and one with year=1983 Movie.query.all() What did I missed?

  • Sorting tree with a materialized path?

    - by Ovid
    I have a tree structure in a table and it uses materialized paths to allow me to find children quickly. However, I also need to sort the results depth-first, as one would expect with threaded forum replies. id | parent_id | matpath | created ----+-----------+---------+---------------------------- 2 | 1 | 1 | 2010-05-08 15:18:37.987544 3 | 1 | 1 | 2010-05-08 17:38:14.125377 4 | 1 | 1 | 2010-05-08 17:38:57.26743 5 | 1 | 1 | 2010-05-08 17:43:28.211708 7 | 1 | 1 | 2010-05-08 18:18:11.849735 6 | 2 | 1.2 | 2010-05-08 17:50:43.288759 9 | 5 | 1.5 | 2010-05-09 14:02:43.818646 8 | 6 | 1.2.6 | 2010-05-09 14:01:17.632695 So the final results should actually be sorted like this: id | parent_id | matpath | created ----+-----------+---------+---------------------------- 2 | 1 | 1 | 2010-05-08 15:18:37.987544 6 | 2 | 1.2 | 2010-05-08 17:50:43.288759 8 | 6 | 1.2.6 | 2010-05-09 14:01:17.632695 3 | 1 | 1 | 2010-05-08 17:38:14.125377 4 | 1 | 1 | 2010-05-08 17:38:57.26743 5 | 1 | 1 | 2010-05-08 17:43:28.211708 9 | 5 | 1.5 | 2010-05-09 14:02:43.818646 7 | 1 | 1 | 2010-05-08 18:18:11.849735 How would I work that out? Can I do that in straight SQL (this is PostgreSQL 8.4) or should additional information be added to this table?

  • Why Banks or Financial Companies prefer Oracle than other RDBMS for their "Core" systems?

    - by edwin.nathaniel
I'd like to know why most Banks or Financial companies prefer Oracle than other RDBMS for their core systems (the absolutely minimum features that a Bank must support). I found a few answers that didn't satisfy me. For example: Oracle has more features. But features for what? Can't you implement that in application level if you were not using Oracle? Could someone please describe a bit more technical but still on high-level overview of what the bank needs and how Oracle would solve it and the others can't or don't have the features yet? I came from the web-app (web 2.0) crowd who normally hear news about MySQL, PostgreSQL or even key-value/column-oriented storage solution. I have almost zero knowledge on how Banks or Financial companies operates from technical perspective. Thank you, Ed

  • PostGIS - can't create spatially-enabled database

    - by itgorilla
I'm using Ubuntu 10.10, PostgreSQL 9.0 and PostGIS 1.5. I've installed PostGIS 1.5 from: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntugis/+archive/ubuntugis-unstable I used PPA first then the command: sudo apt-get install postgis to install postgis. I've been following these instructions to create a spatially-enabled database: http://ostgis.refractions.net/docs/ch02.html#id2630100 I got to the point where it's saying: Now load the PostGIS object and function definitions into your database by loading the postgis.sql definitions file (located in [prefix]/share/contrib as specified during the configuration step). psql -d [yourdatabase] -f postgis.sql Well, there is no postgis.sql on my server after the installation. I did an sudo updatedb to make sure I can find postgis.sql but it's not there. Any ideas? Thank you!

  • Popularity Algorithm - SQL / Django

    - by RadiantHex
Hi folks, I've been looking into popularity algorithms used on sites such as Reddit, Digg and even Stackoverflow. Reddit algorithm: t = (time of entry post) - (Dec 8, 2005) x = upvotes - downvotes y = {1 if x > 0, 0 if x = 0, -1 if x < 0) z = {1 if x < 0, otherwise x} log(z) + (y * t)/45000 I have always performed simple ordering within SQL, I'm wondering how I should deal with such ordering. Should it be used to define a table, or could I build an SQL with the ordering within the formula (without hindering performance)? I am also wondering, if it is possible to use multiple ordering algorithms in different occasions, without incurring into performance problems. I'm using Django and PostgreSQL. Help would be much appreciated! ^^
