• About Network Address Translation (NAT)?

  Just curious about a particular scenario of NAT. Let's suppose we have 4 computers sharing a global IP address under the NAT. I understand that the NAT box keeps an internal record to know which computer to forward requests to. But let's say on computer #2 I'm trying to download a file. And let's say on computer #1, #3, and #4, I'm just browsing the web normally. When the browser initiates a TCP connection to get that file, how does it know which computer to give it to? I mean like, each of the four computers is using port 80 to browse the web right? How does the NAT's record distinguish which "port 80" belongs to which computer?

  Guys, I have a windows form with a panel control and inside the panel control are several other controls with a System.Windows.Forms.Tooltip attached to them. How can I iterate through each tooltip and set the Active property of the tooltip to false? Tooltips, unlike other controls, are not actually controls. So I had this: foreach (System.Windows.Forms.Control ctrl in this.pnlControl.Controls) { if (ctrl.Name.StartsWith("tt")) // since all my tooltip names start with 'tt' { System.Windows.Forms.ToolTip TipControl=(System.Windows.Forms.ToolTip)ctrl; TipControl.Active=false; } } This does not work though. It gets an error because the ToolTip control is not inherited from System.Windows.Forms.Control. Any ideas?

  hi all, In our project we have a requirement that when a set of records are returned by the database the records should be sorted with respect to the TITLE field in the record. The records will have to be sorted alphabetically but if the title of a record has a number in it then it should come after the records whose title only consists of alphabets. Details: we are using SQL Server , and c#. The data from the database comes to an Entity class whic forwards the data to other layers. So, What will be the possible and effective solution for this requirement.

• CakePHP: How do I order results based on a 2-level deep association model?

  I'm hoping I won't need to resort to custom queries. A related question would be: how do I retrieve data so that if an associated model is empty, no record is retrieved at all, as opposed to an empty array for an associated model? As an oversimplified example, say I have the following models: City -- Street -- House How do I sort City results by House numbers? How do I retrieve City restuls that have at least one House in it? I don't want a record with a city name and details and an empty House array as it messes up pagination results. CakePHP retrieves House records belonging to the Street in a separate query, so putting somthing like 'House.number DESC' into the 'order' field of the search query returns a 'field does not exist' error. Any ideas?

• Use fileupload as template field in a details view

  I have an admin page where a user will select a document path and add that path to a certain column of a database. I am using a fileupload on the page where they can find the document and copy the path and then paste it into the details view.   I have a collection of objects, each with an int Frame property. Given an int, I want to find the object in the collection that has the closest Frame. • EF4 Import/Lookup thousands of records - my performance stinks!

  I'm trying to setup something for a movie store website (using ASP.NET, EF4, SQL Server 2008), and in my scenario, I want to allow a "Member" store to import their catalog of movies stored in a text file containing ActorName, MovieTitle, and CatalogNumber as follows: Actor, Movie, CatalogNumber John Wayne, True Grit, 4577-12 (repeated for each record) This data will be used to lookup an actor and movie, and create a "MemberMovie" record, and my import speed is terrible if I import more than 100 or so records using these tables: Actor Table: Fields = {ID, Name, etc.} Movie Table: Fields = {ID, Title, ActorID, etc.} MemberMovie Table: Fields = {ID, CatalogNumber, MovieID, etc.} My methodology to import data into the MemberMovie table from a text file is as follows (after the file has been uploaded successfully): Create a context. For each line in the file, lookup the artist in the Actor table. For each Movie in the Artist table, lookup the matching title. If a matching Movie is found, add a new MemberMovie record to the context and call ctx.SaveChanges(). The performance of my implementation is terrible. My expectation is that this can be done with thousands of records in a few seconds (after the file has been uploaded), and I've got something that times out the browser. My question is this: What is the best approach for performing bulk lookups/inserts like this? Should I call SaveChanges only once rather than for each newly created MemberMovie? Would it be better to implement this using something like a stored procedure?   I set up some jQuery tabs to start off with no tabs selected like this: $('#tabs').tabs( { selected: -1 } ); Then I also have a separate link that when pressed needs to deselect all the tabs. $("#deselectButton").click(function(){ $('#tabs').tabs( 'select' , -1 ) }); or $("#deselectButton").click(function(){ $('#tabs').tabs( 'selected' , -1 ) }); The deselectButton click does deselect the tabs content, however the tabs title remains active with the class 'ui-tabs-selected ui-state-active'. What is the correct way to deselect all the tabs?

• Top techniques to avoid 'data scraping' from a website database

  I am setting up a site using PHP and MySQL that is essentially just a web front-end to an existing database. Understandably my client is very keen to prevent anyone from being able to make a copy of the data in the database yet at the same time wants everything publicly available and even a "view all" link to display every record in the db. Whilst I have put everything in place to prevent attacks such as SQL injection attacks, there is nothing to prevent anyone from viewing all the records as html and running some sort of script to parse this data back into another database. Even if I was to remove the "view all" link, someone could still, in theory, use an automated process to go through each record one by one and compile these into a new database, essentially pinching all the information. Does anyone have any good tactics for preventing or even just dettering this that they could share. Thanks

  I'm using CodeIgniter's Active Record class to query the MySQL database. I need to select the rows in a table where a field is not set to NULL: $this->db->where('archived !=', 'NULL'); $q = $this->db->get('projects'); That only returns this query: SELECT * FROM projects WHERE archived != 'NULL'; The archived field is a DATE field. Is there a better way to solve this? I know I can just write the query myself, but I wan't to stick with the Active Record throughout my code.

• Create Duplicate Records on SELECT for Calendar Date Range

  Hey all, I've built a pretty shnazzy calendar system but there is one tweak that I need to make so that I'm completely happy with it. My calendar has three tables: calevents - The calendared event. caldates - The occurrences and date-range of each occurrence for each event. calcats - The categories that can be applied to an event. The short: For each calevent, there can be many caldates, one for each occurrence of calevent. So a calevent that repeats weekly and spans 3 days might have caldates like this: date_id date_eid date_start date_end 2 37 2010-06-21 2010-06-23 3 37 2010-06-28 2010-06-30 7 37 2010-07-05 2010-07-07 9 37 2010-07-12 2010-07-14 What I want to do, is when selecting all the caldates for a specified month such as 2010-06, to return not just the two records above, but instead a record for each date in the range of date_start and date_end for each caldate. So if I searched for 2010-06, I would get: date_id date_eid date_start date_end date_day 2 37 2010-06-21 2010-06-23 2010-06-21 2 37 2010-06-21 2010-06-23 2010-06-22 2 37 2010-06-21 2010-06-23 2010-06-23 3 37 2010-06-28 2010-06-30 2010-06-28 3 37 2010-06-28 2010-06-30 2010-06-29 3 37 2010-06-28 2010-06-30 2010-06-30 The Long: The reason I want to do this, is so when displaying a list of events(calevents) for a specified month, an occurrence(caldates) of that event will be displayed for EACH of the days it spans. I could do this with php by looping through each day of the current month and displaying a copy of each caldate if the month day falls between date_start and date_end. But doing it this way will prevent me from using record pagination if needed. For example, if for a specified month the following caldates were returned: date_id date_eid date_start date_end 2 37 2010-06-21 2010-06-27 94 53 2010-06-09 2010-07-08 Doing record pagination would see this as only 2 records("rows"). But looping through them with PHP would generate 29 "rows". So, I figure if I use mysql to create each row instead of PHP, I can achieve the same thing AND still be able to use pagination if a month has a lot of events/dates. As far as performance goes, I'm not sure which option is more efficient. Both would send the same amount of info to the browser, so it's really only the work required to generate the info that matters.   I have a USER that creates a COMPANY and become an EMPLOYEE in the process. The employees table has an :user_id and a :company_id. class User has_many :employees has_many :companies, :through => :employees class Employee belongs_to :user belongs_to :company attr_accessible :active class Company has_many :employees has_many :users, :through => employees Pretty basic. But here's the thing, the resource EMPLOYEE has other attributes than its foreign keys, like the boolean :active. I would like to use attr_accessible, but this causes some problems. The attribute :user_id is set right, but :company_id is nil. @user.companies << Company.new(...) Employee id:1 user_id:1 company_id:nil So my question is: if :user_id is set right, despite it is not an attr_accessible, why :company_id isn't set right just the same? It shouldn't be an attr_accessible. I'm using Rails 3.0.8, and have also tested with 3.0.7.

• Suspended Laptop Cannot Wake Up - Ubuntu

  I've got an ASUS G73JH, and whenever I suspend it or hibernate it, it will not wake up. The screen stays backlight but is black. The fan remains running, however the HDD does not, not disk activity is noticeable (audibly (It's not a SSD)). I can't: Awaken it with the keyboard Awaken it with the mouse Soft power-off by pressing the power button Change virtual screens by pressing Ctrl-Alt-# Restart X by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Backspace I have to hold down the power button and shut it down that way, and this seems a little unreasonable. Is there a place I could look for more detail as to what's causing this? Is there a known quick-fix to this issue? Nothing is logged as happening when the system is in "suspend" mode.   Could you please help me to figure this one out? I need to replace a join with OSLP table with OUTER join. Seems a bit tricky for someone who is not an expert in Linq to entities. • High Throughput and Windows Workflow Foundation

  Can WWF handle high throughput scenarios where several dozen records are 'actively' being processed in parallel at any one time? We want to build a workflow process which handles a few thousand records per hour. Each record takes up to a minute to process, because it makes external web service calls. We are testing Windows Workflow Foundation to do this. But our demo programs show processing of each record appear to be running in sequence not in parallel, when we use parallel activities to process several records at once within one workflow instance. Should we use multiple workflow instances or parallel activities? Are there any known patterns for high performance WWF processing?

• Rails - How do i update a records value in a join model ?

  I have a join model in a HABTM relationship with a through association (details below). I 'm trying to find a record....find the value of that records attribute...change the value and update the record but am having a hard time doing it. The model setup is this User.rb has_many :choices has_many :interests, :through => :choices Interest.rb has_many :choices has_many :users, :through => :choices Choice.rb belongs_to :user belongs_to :interest and Choice has the user_id, interest_id, score as fields. And I find the ?object? like so @choice = Choice.where(:user_id => @user.id, :interest_id => interest.id) So the model Choice has an attribute called :score. How do I find the value of the score column....and +1/-1 it and then resave? I tried @choice.score = @choice.score + 1 @choice.update_attributes(params[:choice]) flash[:notice] = "Successfully updated choices value." but I get "undefined method score"......What did i miss?

• checking if records exists in DB, in single step or 2 steps?

  Suppose you want to get a record from database which returns a large data and requires multiple joins. So my question would be is it better to use a single query to check if data exists and get the result if it exists. Or do a more simple query to check if data exists then id record exists, query once again to get the result knowing that it exists. Example: 3 tables a, b and ab(junction table) select * from from a, b, ab where condition and condition and condition and condition etc... or select id from a, b ab where condition then if exists do the query above. So I don't know if there is any reason to do the second. Any ideas how this affects DB performance or does it matter at all?

AS [Max Of FEV1_ACT], Max(Sheet1.FEF_25_75_ACT) AS [Max Of FEF_25_75_ACT] FROM Sheet1 GROUP BY Sheet1.Tx_Date, Sheet1.LName, Sheet1.Patient_Name, Sheet1.MRN; The second sql query pulls the second largest record: SELECT Sheet1.MRN, Sheet1.Patient_Name, Sheet1.Lname, Max(Sheet1.FEV1_ACT) AS 2ndLrgOfFEV1_ACT, Max(Sheet1.FEF_25_75_ACT) AS 2ndLrgOfFEF_25_75_ACT FROM Sheet1 WHERE (((Sheet1.FEV1_ACT)<(SELECT MAX( FEV1_ACT ) FROM Sheet1 ))) GROUP BY Sheet1.MRN, Sheet1.Patient_Name, Sheet1.Lname; These two queries work great, I just need some help on pulling the AVERAGE of the results of these two queries into one.   Say I have a table of "BlogPosts" in a database and i want to be able to cache the ones that were retrieved already in memory, for further reads, I can just use a standard hashtable type memory cache like System.Web.Caching.Cache, but if i then need to update a property on one of these blog posts e.g. blogPost.Title and update the record in DB, i cannot do this without fetching it again from database as the Entity Framework context used to fetch this record when it was loaded into my cache is already disposed? How do I write code so that I am getting an object from my cache, updating one property and just calling the SaveChanges method without incurring an extra read.

  Hello, I'd like to use vestal versions to do the following: Determine the Content of the current record being saved Determine the Content of the last record saved In my model I have: class Note < ActiveRecord::Base versioned :if => :really_create_a_version? def really_create_a_version? XXXXXXXXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXXXXXXX end end Where the XXXX are, how can I get the note.content of the item about to be saved (i'm assuming it hasn't been saved yet to the DB? Is that correct? Also, how can I get the note.content of the save before the current save in progress? Thanks
