  • X11 not sending windows to remote computer matlab

    - by MZimmerman6
    I am trying to set up my home desktop, running OS X Mountain Lion, to basically do a bunch of grunt work for me remotely. I have set up ssh, and am able to remotely control the computer fine, but the issue comes in when I try to run X11 apps, like MATLAB, remotely and get windows to pop up. Every time I try to bring up a new window it either opens that window on the remote computer (not the one I am using to control it), or it tells me it can't find a display. here is how I am setting up my ssh assume my matlab alias is set up properly, which it is. ssh -X [email protected] matlab -nodesktop figure; This will open the window on the computer I am SSHing into, and not on the remote one. Basically I want that window to open on the computer I am remoting from. I changed my SSH X11Forwarding and stuff to be yes in ssh_config and sshd_config. Any other suggestions?

  • Is there an intuitive way to reopen Empathy's contact list?

    - by aef
    Since a short while I'm using Ubuntu Oneiric Ocelot (11.10) with gnome-shell (Gnome 3) and I'm trying to get accustomed to the default Empathy Instant Messaging client. When I hit the close button of Empathy's contact list the window disappears as expected. When I now start Empathy over the Gnome Activities menu the contact list reappears. That's not as easy as clicking a system tray icon back in Psi on Gnome 2 but it works for now. But when I start a conversation first and have an open conversation window, then close the contact list, and try to regain access to it by using Gnome Activities, I only get the conversation window into focus and no contact list appears. I only seem to be able to get the contact list back if I close the conversation window (and thereby signal the conversations to be over) and then use Gnome Activities again to get my contact list back. That's horrible. Is this intended? Is there something I'm missing?

  • Browser: Randomly Opens Pages in New Windows Without Reason?

    - by Mark R
    This is a very strange thing I've noticed on my computer and past computers over this past year or more. I know when page are meant to open in a new Window and know which settings to use on my browser for this. But on both my browsers Chrome and Firefox, I have this really strange issue. I'm starting to think it's a hacker. When I right click links and select Open Link in New Tab, sometimes they will randomly open in a new window and today it is happening a lot. Like lots and lots. I'm getting really creeped out by it and YES I understand when a link opens in a new window and when it isn't supposed to. And none of these links are meant to open in a new Window. Let me give you an example: I searched Google about my issue and clicked on the result that I thought good. It opened in a new tab but half way through loading in new tab it opens into a new window. Recently, I decided to record my screen and while recording my screen using Camtasia, the issue stops. When I stop recording it starts again, as if it's a human operated issue. VERY strange. This has been going on for months on my old and new computer and on both Firefox and Chrome. Is there something I can do to fix this intermittent problem?

  • [BEGINNER] Javascript Pop Ups

    - by user566312
    Hey All, My boss has asked for a page that will not change to have two timed pop ups load. I have found code and edited it to what I had thought it should do, but it is only loading the last onLoad event. I am a designer and I have helped with making webpages, but Javascript is so far outside of what I can understand. I have already learned how to use the single pop up and spent a whiiile learning the timeouts, but I cannot seem to get it to work with multiple popup functions. If you have a moment, would you take a look? Thank you :) h <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>H's Page 1</title> <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript"> <!-- Original: Ronnie T. • How do you place an Excel Sheet/Workbook onto a C# .NET Winform?

    - by incognick
    I am trying to create a stand alone application in Visual Studio 2008 C# .Net that will house Excel Workbooks (2007). I am using Office.Interop in order to create the Excel application and I open the workbooks via Workbooks.Open(...). The Interop does not provide any functionality to "move" the workbooks onto a form so I turned to P/Invoke Win32 library. I am able to move the entire excel application onto a WinForm with great success: // pseudo code to give you the idea excel = new Excel.ApplicationClass(); SetParent(excel.Hwnd, form.handle); This allows me to customize the form and control user input. All right click commands and formula editing work properly. Now, the issue I run into is when I want to open two workbooks in two separate forms. I do this by creating two excel application classes and placing each of those in their own form. When I try to reference one workbook to another workbook via =[Book2]Sheet1!A1, for example, it does not update. This is expected as each application is running under its own thread/process. Here are the alternatives I have tried. If you have any suggestions I would be greatly appreciative.(OLE is not an option. VSTO must be available) Create a single application class and move the workbook window into my form. Results: The window moves into my form and displays correctly, however, no right click or left click works on the form and it never gains focus. (I have tried to manually set focus and it does not work either). My guess is, by moving the window outside of the XLDESK application (viewable in Spy++ for Excel Application), the workbook application (EXCEL7) does not receive the correct window messages to gain focus and to behave properly. This leads me to: Move the XLDESK window handle into my form. Results: This allows the workbook to be click-able again but also has an undesired result of moving all child windows into the same form. Create a main excel application that creates workbooks. Create a new excel application for each new window. Move the workbook under the new excel application XLDESK window. Results: This also has the same effect of the 1st option. Unable to click in the workbook. This must mean that the thread that created the workbook is also responsible for the events. Create a windows hook that watches the WndProc procedure. Results: No events watched. The targeted thread must export the hook proc in a DLL export call. Excel does not do this and thus you cannot inject into it's DLL (unless someone can prove me wrong). I am able to watch all threads within my own process but not from an outside process. Excel is created as a separate process. Subclass NativeWindow. Results: Same as #4. After I move the window into my form, all events are captured up until the mouse is directly over the excel sheet making the sheet seem unclickable. One idea I haven't tried yet is just to continually save the excel sheet as the user edits it. This should update all references but I would feel this would cause poor system performance. There will be numerous chart references as well and I'm not sure if this solution would cause problems further down the road. I think in the end, all the workbooks need to be created by the same Excel Application and then moved to get the desired results but I can't seem to find the correct way to move the windows without disabling the user input in the process. Any suggestions?

  • why the global variable value is not being set?

    - by masato-san
    I can't figure out why my global variable workRegionCode is not set properly. In function getWorkRegion(), after getting ajax callback, it attempt to set workRegionCode global variable. (inside of function setFirstIndexWorkRegionCode() ). The alert in setFirstIndexWorkRegionCode() outputs expected value like 401 or 123 etc. But then when getMachines() is called, the global variable workRegionCode is undefiend :( This js starts from window.onload() (please ignore those Japanese JSON key value and few Japanese variables. They are harmless) Code: var workRegionDropdown = document.getElementById("workRegionDropdown");; var machineDropdown = document.getElementById("machineDropdown"); //this is the global variable with problem..... var workRegionCode; //INIT window.onload = function() { getWorkRegions(); // alert("before: " + window.workRegionCode); getMachines(); // alert("after: " + window.workRegionCode); } function addWorkRegionToDropdown(jsonObject, dropdown) { for(var i=0, j=jsonObject.length; i<j; i++) { var option = document.createElement("option"); option.text = jsonObject[i].?????? + ":" + jsonObject[i].??????; option.value = jsonObject[i].??????; dropdown.options.add(option); } } function addMachineToDropdown(jsonObject, dropdown) { for(var i=0, j=jsonObject.length; i<j; i++) { var option = document.createElement("option"); option.text = jsonObject[i].???; option.value = jsonObject[i].???; dropdown.options.add(option); } } function getMachines() { //!!!!!!!!!!! workRegionCode is undefined.. why?!?!?! alert("inside of getMachines() ==> " + window.workRegionCode); var ajaxRequest = new XMLHttpRequest(); ajaxTimeout = setTimeout(function() {timeoutAjax(ajaxRequest, "showMessage")}, "5000"); ajaxRequest.onreadystatechange = function() { if(ajaxRequest.readyState == 4 ) { clearTimeout(ajaxTimeout); switch ( ajaxRequest.status ) { case 200: var jsonOut = JSON.parse(ajaxRequest.responseText); addMachineToDropdown(jsonOut.??, machineDropdown); break; default: document.getElementById("showMessage").innerHTML = ajaxRequest.responseText; } } } var aMonthAgo = new Date(); with(aMonthAgo) { setMonth(getMonth() - 1) } aMonthAgo = aMonthAgo.getYYYYMMDD(); var ??? = "29991231"; var url = "../resources/machine/list/" + window.workRegionCode + "/" + aMonthAgo + "/" + ???; ajaxRequest.open("GET", url, true); ajaxRequest.send(null) } function getWorkRegions() { var ajaxRequest = new XMLHttpRequest(); ajaxTimeout = setTimeout(function() {timeoutAjax(ajaxRequest, "showMessage")}, "5000"); ajaxRequest.onreadystatechange = function() { if(ajaxRequest.readyState == 4 ) { clearTimeout(ajaxTimeout); switch ( ajaxRequest.status ) { case 200: var jsonOut = JSON.parse(ajaxRequest.responseText); //set global variable workRegionCode setFirstIndexWorkRegionCode(jsonOut); addWorkRegionToDropdown(jsonOut.???, workRegionDropdown); default: document.getElementById("showMessage").innerHTML = ajaxRequest.responseText; } } } var url = "../resources/workshop/list"; ajaxRequest.open("GET", url, true); ajaxRequest.send(null) }//end getWorkRegions() function setFirstIndexWorkRegionCode(jsonString) { //here I set the value to work region code! window.workRegionCode = jsonString.???[0].??????; alert("??????: " + window.workRegionCode); }

  • WPF Blurry Images - Bitmap Class

    - by Luke
    I am using the following sample at http://blogs.msdn.com/dwayneneed/archive/2007/10/05/blurry-bitmaps.aspx within VB.NET. The code is shown below. I am having a problem when my application loads the CPU is pegging 50-70%. I have determined that the problem is with the Bitmap class. The OnLayoutUpdated() method is calling the InvalidateVisual() continously. This is because some points are not returning as equal but rather, Point(0.0,-0.5) Can anyone see any bugs within this code or know a better implmentation for pixel snapping a Bitmap image so it is not blurry? p.s. The sample code was in C#, however I believe that it was converted correctly. • Issue configuring Oracle database for SSL

    - by Santhosha
    Hello, I want to setup Oracle for SSL communication. I am not using SSL authentication for database user. As first requirement, generated self signed certificate using OpenSSL and added certificate to wallet. The wallet location is specified in server configuration. Created listener and it is starting however it does not provide any service. The default listener (non SSL) is working fine. When I execute LSNRCTL.EXE status SSLLISTENER it gives below output. • SMO ManagedComputer.ServiceInstances is empty

    - by Mark J Miller
    I am trying to use SMO (VS 2010, SQL Server 2008) to connect to SQL Server and view the server protocol configuration. I can connect and list the Services and ClientProtocols as well as the account MSSQLSERVER service is running under. However, the ServerInstances collection is empty. The only instance on the target server is the default (MSSQLSERVER), shouldn't that be in the collection? How can I get an instance of it so I can inspect the ServerProtocols collection? Here's the code I'm using: class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { //machine hosting installed sql server instance ManagedComputer host = new ManagedComputer("dev-it-db01.dev.interbankfx.lcl"); //ManagedComputer host = new ManagedComputer("MRW-IT-DTP69"); if (host.ServerInstances.Count != 0) { //why is this 0? Is it because only the DEFAULT instance exists? Console.WriteLine("/////////////// INSTANCES ////////////////"); foreach (ServerInstance inst in host.ServerInstances) { Console.WriteLine(inst.Name); } } Console.WriteLine("/////////////// SERVICES ////////////////"); // enumerate sql services (looking for MSSSQLSERVER) foreach (Service svc in host.Services) { Console.WriteLine(svc.Name); } Console.WriteLine("/////////////// DETAILS ////////////////"); // get name of MSSQLSERVER instance from user (pick from list above) Service mssqlserver = host.Services["MSSQLSERVER"]; // print service account: .\{account} == "local account", "LocalSystem", "NetworkService", {domain}\{account} == "domain account" Console.WriteLine("Service Account: {0}", mssqlserver.ServiceAccount); // get client protocols foreach (ClientProtocol cp in host.ClientProtocols) { Console.WriteLine("{0} {1} ({2})", cp.Order, cp.DisplayName, cp.IsEnabled ? "Enabled" : "Disabled"); } } } I've also tried: Urn u = new Urn("ManagedComputer[@Name=dev-it-db01.dev.interbankfx.lcl]/ServerInstance[@Name='MSSQLSERVER']/ServerProtocol[@Name='Tcp']"); ServerProtocol tcp = host.GetSmoObject(u) as ServerProtocol; if (tcp != null) { Console.WriteLine("{0}", tcp.DisplayName); } But I get an error message stating: "child expressions are not supported." Any ideas what's wrong?

  • Java: Cleaning up what causes a connection reset

    - by Zombies
    There seems to be some confusion as well contradicting statements on various SO answers: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/585599/whats-causing-my-java-net-socketexception-connection-reset . You can see here that the accepted answer states that the connection was closed by other side. But this is not true, closing a connection doesn't cause a connection reset. It is cauesed by "an underlying TCP/IP error." What I want to know is if a SocketException: Connection reset means really besides "unerlying TCP/IP Error." What really causes this? As I doubt it has anything to do with the connection being closed (since closing a connection isn't an exception worthy flag, and reading from a closed connection is, but that isn't an "underlying TCP/IP error." My hypothesis is this Connection reset is caused from a server's failure to acknowledge an ACK packet (either wholly or just improperly as per TCP/IP). And that a SocketTimeoutException is generated only when no data is generated to be read (since this is thrown during a read after a certain duration, and read is waiting for data, but is not concerned with ACK packets). In other words, read() throws SocketTimeoutException if it didn't read any bytes of actual data (DATA LAYER) in its allotted time.

    Hi, So I have a FreeBSD router running PF and Squid, and it has three network interfaces: two connected to upstream providers (em0 and em1 respectively), and one for LAN (re0) that we serve. There is some load balancing configured with PF. Basically, it routes all traffic to ports 1-1024 through one interface (em0) and everything else through the other (em1). Now, I have a Squid proxy also running on the box that transparently redirects any HTTP request from LAN to port 3128 in 127.0.0.1. Since Squid redirects this request to HTTP outside, it should follow the load balancing rule through em0, no? The problem is, when we tested it out (by browsing from a computer in the LAN to http://whatismyip.com, it reports the external IP of the em1 interface! When we turn Squid off, the external IP of em0 is reported, as expected. How do I make Squid behave with the load balancing rule that we have set up? Here's the related settings in /etc/pf.conf that I have: ext_if1="em1" # DSL ext_if2="em0" # T1 int_if="re0" ext_gw1="x.x.x.1" ext_gw2="y.y.y.1" int_addr="10.0.0.1" int_net="10.0.0.0/16" dsl_ports = "1024:65535" t1_ports = "1:1023" ... squid=3128 rdr on $int_if inet proto tcp from $int_net \ to any port 80 -> 127.0.0.1 port $squid pass in quick on $int_if route-to lo0 inet proto tcp \ from $int_net to 127.0.0.1 port $squid keep state ... # load balancing pass in on $int_if route-to ($ext_if1 $ext_gw1) \ proto tcp from $int_net to any port $dsl_ports keep state pass in on $int_if route-to ($ext_if1 $ext_gw1) \ proto udp from $int_net to any port $dsl_ports pass in on $int_if route-to ($ext_if2 $ext_gw2) \ proto tcp from $int_net to any port $t1_ports keep state pass in on $int_if route-to ($ext_if2 $ext_gw2) \ proto udp from $int_net to any port $t1_ports Thanks!

  • How to distinguish between two different UDP clients on the same IP address?

    - by Ricket
    I'm writing a UDP server, which is a first for me; I've only done a bit of TCP communications. And I'm having trouble figuring out exactly how to distinguish which user is which, since UDP deals only with packets rather than connections and I therefore cannot tell exactly who I'm communicating with. Here is pseudocode of my current server loop: DatagramPacket p; socket.receive(p); // now p contains the user's IP and port, and the data int key = getKey(p); if(key == 0) { // connection request key = makeKey(p); clients.add(key, p.ip); send(p.ip, p.port, key); // give the user his key } else { // user has a key // verify key belongs to that IP address // lookup the user's session data based on the key // react to the packet in the context of the session } When designing this, I kept in mind these points: Multiple users may exist on the same IP address, due to the presence of routers, therefore users must have a separate identification key. Packets can be spoofed, so the key should be checked against its original IP address and ignored if a different IP tries to use the key. The outbound port on the client side might change among packets. Is that third assumption correct, or can I simply assume that one user = one IP+port combination? Is this commonly done, or should I continue to create a special key like I am currently doing? I'm not completely clear on how TCP negotiates a connection so if you think I should model it off of TCP then please link me to a good tutorial or something on TCP's SYN/SYNACK/ACK mess. Also note, I do have a provision to resend a key, if an IP sends a 0 and that IP already has a pending key; I omitted it to keep the snippet simple. I understand that UDP is not guaranteed to arrive, and I plan to add reliability to the main packet handling code later as well.

  • Java: Clearing up the confusion on what causes a connection reset

  • boost::asio::async_resolve Problem

    - by Moo-Juice
    Hi All, I'm in the process of constructing a Socket class that uses boost::asio. To start with, I made a connect method that took a host and a port and resolved it to an IP address. This worked well, so I decided to look in to async_resolve. However, my callback always gets an error code of 995 (using the same destination host/port as when it worked synchronously). code: Function that starts the resolution: // resolve a host asynchronously template<typename ResolveHandler> void resolveHost(const String& _host, Port _port, ResolveHandler _handler) const { boost::asio::ip::tcp::endpoint ret; boost::asio::ip::tcp::resolver::query query(_host, boost::lexical_cast<std::string>(_port)); boost::asio::ip::tcp::resolver r(m_IOService); r.async_resolve(query, _handler); }; // eo resolveHost Code that calls this function: void Socket::connect(const String& _host, Port _port) { // Anon function for resolution of the host-name and asynchronous calling of the above auto anonResolve = [this](const boost::system::error_code& _errorCode, boost::asio::ip::tcp::resolver_iterator _epIt) { // raise event onResolve.raise(SocketResolveEventArgs(*this, !_errorCode ? (*_epIt).host_name() : String(""), _errorCode)); // perform connect, calling back to anonymous function if(!_errorCode) connect(*_epIt); }; // Resolve the host calling back to anonymous function Root::instance().resolveHost(_host, _port, anonResolve); }; // eo connect The message() function of the error_code is: The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request And my main.cpp looks like this: int _tmain(int argc, _TCHAR* argv[]) { morse::Root root; TextSocket s; s.connect("somehost.com", 1234); while(true) { root.performIO(); // calls io_service::run_one() } return 0; } Thanks in advance!

  • Scan a Windows PC for Viruses from a Ubuntu Live CD

    - by Trevor Bekolay
    Getting a virus is bad. Getting a virus that causes your computer to crash when you reboot is even worse. We’ll show you how to clean viruses from your computer even if you can’t boot into Windows by using a virus scanner in a Ubuntu Live CD. There are a number of virus scanners available for Ubuntu, but we’ve found that avast! is the best choice, with great detection rates and usability. Unfortunately, avast! does not have a proper 64-bit version, and forcing the install does not work properly. If you want to use avast! to scan for viruses, then ensure that you have a 32-bit Ubuntu Live CD. If you currently have a 64-bit Ubuntu Live CD on a bootable flash drive, it does not take long to wipe your flash drive and go through our guide again and select normal (32-bit) Ubuntu 9.10 instead of the x64 edition. For the purposes of fixing your Windows installation, the 64-bit Live CD will not provide any benefits. Once Ubuntu 9.10 boots up, open up Firefox by clicking on its icon in the top panel. Navigate to http://www.avast.com/linux-home-edition. Click on the Download tab, and then click on the link to download the DEB package. Save it to the default location. While avast! is downloading, click on the link to the registration form on the download page. Fill in the registration form if you do not already have a trial license for avast!. By the time you’ve filled out the registration form, avast! will hopefully be finished downloading. Open a terminal window by clicking on Applications in the top-left corner of the screen, then expanding the Accessories menu and clicking on Terminal. In the terminal window, type in the following commands, pressing enter after each line. cd Downloadssudo dpkg –i avast* This will install avast! on the live Ubuntu environment. To ensure that you can use the latest virus database, while still in the terminal window, type in the following command: sudo sysctl –w kernel.shmmax=128000000 Now we’re ready to open avast!. Click on Applications on the top-left corner of the screen, expand the Accessories folder, and click on the new avast! Antivirus item. You will first be greeted with a window that asks for your license key. Hopefully you’ve received it in your email by now; open the email that avast! sends you, copy the license key, and paste it in the Registration window. avast! Antivirus will open. You’ll notice that the virus database is outdated. Click on the Update database button and avast! will start downloading the latest virus database. To scan your Windows hard drive, you will need to “mount” it. While the virus database is downloading, click on Places on the top-left of your screen, and click on your Windows hard drive, if you can tell which one it is by its size. If you can’t tell which is the correct hard drive, then click on Computer and check out each hard drive until you find the right one. When you find it, make a note of the drive’s label, which appears in the menu bar of the file browser. Also note that your hard drive will now appear on your desktop. By now, your virus database should be updated. At the time this article was written, the most recent version was 100404-0. In the main avast! window, click on the radio button next to Selected folders and then click on the “+” button to the right of the list box. It will open up a dialog box to browse to a location. To find your Windows hard drive, click on the “>” next to the computer icon. In the expanded list, find the folder labelled “media” and click on the “>” next to it to expand it. In this list, you should be able to find the label that corresponds to your Windows hard drive. If you want to scan a certain folder, then you can go further into this hierarchy and select that folder. However, we will scan the entire hard drive, so we’ll just press OK. Click on Start scan and avast! will start scanning your hard drive. If a virus is found, you’ll be prompted to select an action. If you know that the file is a virus, then you can Delete it, but there is the possibility of false positives, so you can also choose Move to chest to quarantine it. When avast! is done scanning, it will summarize what it found on your hard drive. You can take different actions on those files at this time by right-clicking on them and selecting the appropriate action. When you’re done, click Close. Your Windows PC is now free of viruses, in the eyes of avast!. Reboot your computer and with any luck it will now boot up! Alternatives to avast! If avast! and a liberal amount of Googling doesn’t fix your problem, it’s possible that a different virus scanner will fix your obscure issue. Here are a list of other virus scanners available for Ubuntu that are either free or offer free trials. See their support forums for help on installing these virus scanners. Avira AntiVir Personal for Linux / Solaris Panda Antivirus for Linux Installation and usage guide from Ubuntu F-PROT Antivirus for Linux ClamAV installation and usage guide from Ubuntu NOD32 Antivirus for Linux Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 Bitdefender Antivirus for Unices Conclusion Running avast! from a Ubuntu Live CD can clean the vast majority of viruses from your Windows PC. This is another reason to always have a Ubuntu Live CD ready just in case something happens to your Windows installation! • Recover Deleted Files on an NTFS Hard Drive from a Ubuntu Live CD

    - by Trevor Bekolay
    Accidentally deleting a file is a terrible feeling. Not being able to boot into Windows and undelete that file makes that even worse. Fortunately, you can recover deleted files on NTFS hard drives from an Ubuntu Live CD. To show this process, we created four files on the desktop of a Windows XP machine, and then deleted them. We then booted up the same machine with the bootable Ubuntu 9.10 USB Flash Drive that we created last week. Once Ubuntu 9.10 boots up, open a terminal by clicking Applications in the top left of the screen, and then selecting Accessories > Terminal. To undelete our files, we first need to identify the hard drive that we want to undelete from. In the terminal window, type in: sudo fdisk –l and press enter. What you’re looking for is a line that ends with HPSF/NTFS (under the heading System). In our case, the device is “/dev/sda1”. This may be slightly different for you, but it will still begin with /dev/. Note this device name. If you have more than one hard drive partition formatted as NTFS, then you may be able to identify the correct partition by the size. If you look at the second line of text in the screenshot above, it reads “Disk /dev/sda: 136.4 GB, …” This means that the hard drive that Ubuntu has named /dev/sda is 136.4 GB large. If your hard drives are of different size, then this information can help you track down the right device name to use. Alternatively, you can just try them all, though this can be time consuming for large hard drives. Now that you know the name Ubuntu has assigned to your hard drive, we’ll scan it to see what files we can uncover. In the terminal window, type: sudo ntfsundelete <HD name> and hit enter. In our case, the command is: sudo ntfsundelete /dev/sda1 The names of files that can recovered show up in the far right column. The percentage in the third column tells us how much of that file can be recovered. Three of the four files that we originally deleted are showing up in this list, even though we shut down the computer right after deleting the four files – so even in ideal cases, your files may not be recoverable. Nevertheless, we have three files that we can recover – two JPGs and an MPG. Note: ntfsundelete is immediately available in the Ubuntu 9.10 Live CD. If you are in a different version of Ubuntu, or for some other reason get an error when trying to use ntfsundelete, you can install it by entering “sudo apt-get install ntfsprogs” in a terminal window. To quickly recover the two JPGs, we will use the * wildcard to recover all of the files that end with .jpg. In the terminal window, enter sudo ntfsundelete <HD name> –u –m *.jpg which is, in our case, sudo ntfsundelete /dev/sda1 –u –m *.jpg The two files are recovered from the NTFS hard drive and saved in the current working directory of the terminal. By default, this is the home directory of the current user, though we are working in the Desktop folder. Note that the ntfsundelete program does not make any changes to the original NTFS hard drive. If you want to take those files and put them back in the NTFS hard drive, you will have to move them there after they are undeleted with ntfsundelete. Of course, you can also put them on your flash drive or open Firefox and email them to yourself – the sky’s the limit! We have one more file to undelete – our MPG. Note the first column on the far left. It contains a number, its Inode. Think of this as the file’s unique identifier. Note this number. To undelete a file by its Inode, enter the following in the terminal: sudo ntfsundelete <HD name> –u –i <Inode> In our case, this is: sudo ntfsundelete /dev/sda1 –u –i 14159 This recovers the file, along with an identifier that we don’t really care about. All three of our recoverable files are now recovered. However, Ubuntu lets us know visually that we can’t use these files yet. That’s because the ntfsundelete program saves the files as the “root” user, not the “ubuntu” user. We can verify this by typing the following in our terminal window: ls –l We want these three files to be owned by ubuntu, not root. To do this, enter the following in the terminal window: sudo chown ubuntu <Files> If the current folder has other files in it, you may not want to change their owner to ubuntu. However, in our case, we only have these three files in this folder, so we will use the * wildcard to change the owner of all three files. sudo chown ubuntu * The files now look normal, and we can do whatever we want with them. Hopefully you won’t need to use this tip, but if you do, ntfsundelete is a nice command-line utility. It doesn’t have a fancy GUI like many of the similar Windows programs, but it is a powerful tool that can recover your files quickly. • Integration Patterns with Azure Service Bus Relay, Part 1: Exposing the on-premise service

    - by Elton Stoneman
    We're in the process of delivering an enabling project to expose on-premise WCF services securely to Internet consumers. The Azure Service Bus Relay is doing the clever stuff, we register our on-premise service with Azure, consumers call into our .servicebus.windows.net namespace, and their requests are relayed and serviced on-premise. In theory it's all wonderfully simple; by using the relay we get lots of protocol options, free HTTPS and load balancing, and by integrating to ACS we get plenty of security options. Part of our delivery is a suite of sample consumers for the service - .NET, jQuery, PHP - and this set of posts will cover setting up the service and the consumers. Part 1: Exposing the on-premise service In theory, this is ultra-straightforward. In practice, and on a dev laptop it is - but in a corporate network with firewalls and proxies, it isn't, so we'll walkthrough some of the pitfalls. Note that I'm using the "old" Azure portal which will soon be out of date, but the new shiny portal should have the same steps available and be easier to use. We start with a simple WCF service which takes a string as input, reverses the string and returns it. The Part 1 version of the code is on GitHub here: on GitHub here: IPASBR Part 1. Configuring Azure Service Bus Start by logging into the Azure portal and registering a Service Bus namespace which will be our endpoint in the cloud. Give it a globally unique name, set it up somewhere near you (if you’re in Europe, remember Europe (North) is Ireland, and Europe (West) is the Netherlands), and  enable ACS integration by ticking "Access Control" as a service: Authenticating and authorizing to ACS When we try to register our on-premise service as a listener for the Service Bus endpoint, we need to supply credentials, which means only trusted service providers can act as listeners. We can use the default "owner" credentials, but that has admin permissions so a dedicated service account is better (Neil Mackenzie has a good post On Not Using owner with the Azure AppFabric Service Bus with lots of permission details). Click on "Access Control Service" for the namespace, navigate to Service Identities and add a new one. Give the new account a sensible name and description: Let ACS generate a symmetric key for you (this will be the shared secret we use in the on-premise service to authenticate as a listener), but be sure to set the expiration date to something usable. The portal defaults to expiring new identities after 1 year - but when your year is up *your identity will expire without warning* and everything will stop working. In production, you'll need governance to manage identity expiration and a process to make sure you renew identities and roll new keys regularly. The new service identity needs to be authorized to listen on the service bus endpoint. This is done through claim mapping in ACS - we'll set up a rule that says if the nameidentifier in the input claims has the value serviceProvider, in the output we'll have an action claim with the value Listen. In the ACS portal you'll see that there is already a Relying Party Application set up for ServiceBus, which has a Default rule group. Edit the rule group and click Add to add this new rule: The values to use are: Issuer: Access Control Service Input claim type: http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2005/05/identity/claims/nameidentifier Input claim value: serviceProvider Output claim type: net.windows.servicebus.action Output claim value: Listen When your service namespace and identity are set up, open the Part 1 solution and put your own namespace, service identity name and secret key into the file AzureConnectionDetails.xml in Solution Items, e.g: <azure namespace="sixeyed-ipasbr">    <!-- ACS credentials for the listening service (Part1):-->   <service identityName="serviceProvider"            symmetricKey="nuR2tHhlrTCqf4YwjT2RA2BZ/+xa23euaRJNLh1a/V4="/>  </azure> Build the solution, and the T4 template will generate the Web.config for the service project with your Azure details in the transportClientEndpointBehavior:           <behavior name="SharedSecret">             <transportClientEndpointBehavior credentialType="SharedSecret">               <clientCredentials>                 <sharedSecret issuerName="serviceProvider"                               issuerSecret="nuR2tHhlrTCqf4YwjT2RA2BZ/+xa23euaRJNLh1a/V4="/>               </clientCredentials>             </transportClientEndpointBehavior>           </behavior> , and your service namespace in the Azure endpoint:         <!-- Azure Service Bus endpoints -->          <endpoint address="sb://sixeyed-ipasbr.servicebus.windows.net/net"                   binding="netTcpRelayBinding"                   contract="Sixeyed.Ipasbr.Services.IFormatService"                   behaviorConfiguration="SharedSecret">         </endpoint> The sample project is hosted in IIS, but it won't register with Azure until the service is activated. Typically you'd install AppFabric 1.1 for Widnows Server and set the service to auto-start in IIS, but for dev just navigate to the local REST URL, which will activate the service and register it with Azure. Testing the service locally As well as an Azure endpoint, the service has a WebHttpBinding for local REST access:         <!-- local REST endpoint for internal use -->         <endpoint address="rest"                   binding="webHttpBinding"                   behaviorConfiguration="RESTBehavior"                   contract="Sixeyed.Ipasbr.Services.IFormatService" /> Build the service, then navigate to: http://localhost/Sixeyed.Ipasbr.Services/FormatService.svc/rest/reverse?string=abc123 - and you should see the reversed string response: If your network allows it, you'll get the expected response as before, but in the background your service will also be listening in the cloud. Good stuff! Who needs network security? Onto the next post for consuming the service with the netTcpRelayBinding.  Setting up network access to Azure But, if you get an error, it's because your network is secured and it's doing something to stop the relay working. The Service Bus relay bindings try to use direct TCP connections to Azure, so if ports 9350-9354 are available *outbound*, then the relay will run through them. If not, the binding steps down to standard HTTP, and issues a CONNECT across port 443 or 80 to set up a tunnel for the relay. If your network security guys are doing their job, the first option will be blocked by the firewall, and the second option will be blocked by the proxy, so you'll get this error: System.ServiceModel.CommunicationException: Unable to reach sixeyed-ipasbr.servicebus.windows.net via TCP (9351, 9352) or HTTP (80, 443) - and that will probably be the start of lots of discussions. Network guys don't really like giving servers special permissions for the web proxy, and they really don't like opening ports, so they'll need to be convinced about this. The resolution in our case was to put up a dedicated box in a DMZ, tinker with the firewall and the proxy until we got a relay connection working, then run some traffic which the the network guys monitored to do a security assessment afterwards. Along the way we hit a few more issues, diagnosed mainly with Fiddler and Wireshark: System.Net.ProtocolViolationException: Chunked encoding upload is not supported on the HTTP/1.0 protocol - this means the TCP ports are not available, so Azure tries to relay messaging traffic across HTTP. The service can access the endpoint, but the proxy is downgrading traffic to HTTP 1.0, which does not support tunneling, so Azure can’t make its connection. We were using the Squid proxy, version 2.6. The Squid project is incrementally adding HTTP 1.1 support, but there's no definitive list of what's supported in what version (here are some hints). System.ServiceModel.Security.SecurityNegotiationException: The X.509 certificate CN=servicebus.windows.net chain building failed. The certificate that was used has a trust chain that cannot be verified. Replace the certificate or change the certificateValidationMode. The evocation function was unable to check revocation because the revocation server was offline. - by this point we'd given up on the HTTP proxy and opened the TCP ports. We got this error when the relay binding does it's authentication hop to ACS. The messaging traffic is TCP, but the control traffic still goes over HTTP, and as part of the ACS authentication the process checks with a revocation server to see if Microsoft’s ACS cert is still valid, so the proxy still needs some clearance. The service account (the IIS app pool identity) needs access to: www.public-trust.com mscrl.microsoft.com We still got this error periodically with different accounts running the app pool. We fixed that by ensuring the machine-wide proxy settings are set up, so every account uses the correct proxy: netsh winhttp set proxy proxy-server="http://proxy.x.y.z" - and you might need to run this to clear out your credential cache: certutil -urlcache * delete If your network guys end up grudgingly opening ports, they can restrict connections to the IP address range for your chosen Azure datacentre, which might make them happier - see Windows Azure Datacenter IP Ranges. After all that you've hopefully got an on-premise service listening in the cloud, which you can consume from pretty much any technology.

  • Pixel Shader Giving Black output

    - by Yashwinder
    I am coding in C# using Windows Forms and the SlimDX API to show the effect of a pixel shader. When I am setting the pixel shader, I am getting a black output screen but if I am not using the pixel shader then I am getting my image rendered on the screen. I have the following C# code using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Windows.Forms; using System.Runtime.InteropServices; using SlimDX.Direct3D9; using SlimDX; using SlimDX.Windows; using System.Drawing; using System.Threading; namespace WindowsFormsApplication1 { // Vertex structure. • Refresh Button in java

    - by lakshmi
    I need to make a simple refresh button for a gui java program I have the button made but its not working properly. I just am not sure what the code needs to be to make the button work. Any help would be really appreciated.I figured the code below ` public class CompanySample extends Panel { DBServiceAsync dbService = GWT.create(DBService.class); Panel panel = new Panel(); public Panel CompanySampledetails(com.viji.example.domain.Record trec, int count) { panel.setWidth(800); Panel borderPanel = new Panel(); Panel centerPanel = new Panel(); final FormPanel formPanel = new FormPanel(); formPanel.setFrame(true); formPanel.setLabelAlign(Position.LEFT); formPanel.setPaddings(5); formPanel.setWidth(800); final Panel inner = new Panel(); inner.setLayout(new ColumnLayout()); Panel columnOne = new Panel(); columnOne.setLayout(new FitLayout()); GridPanel gridPanel = null; if (gridPanel != null) { gridPanel.getView().refresh(); gridPanel.clear(); } gridPanel = new SampleGrid(trec); gridPanel.setHeight(450); gridPanel.setTitle("Company Data"); final RowSelectionModel sm = new RowSelectionModel(true); sm.addListener(new RowSelectionListenerAdapter() { public void onRowSelect(RowSelectionModel sm, int rowIndex, Record record) { formPanel.getForm().loadRecord(record); } }); gridPanel.setSelectionModel(sm); gridPanel.doOnRender(new Function() { public void execute() { sm.selectFirstRow(); } }, 10); columnOne.add(gridPanel); inner.add(columnOne, new ColumnLayoutData(0.6)); final FieldSet fieldSet = new FieldSet(); fieldSet.setLabelWidth(90); fieldSet.setTitle("company Details"); fieldSet.setAutoHeight(true); fieldSet.setBorder(false); final TextField txtcompanyname = new TextField("Name", "companyname", 120); final TextField txtcompanyaddress = new TextField("Address", "companyaddress", 120); final TextField txtcompanyid = new TextField("Id", "companyid", 120); txtcompanyid.setVisible(false); fieldSet.add(txtcompanyid); fieldSet.add(txtcompanyname); fieldSet.add(txtcompanyaddress); final Button addButton = new Button(); final Button deleteButton = new Button(); final Button modifyButton = new Button(); final Button refeshButton = new Button(); addButton.setText("Add"); deleteButton.setText("Delete"); modifyButton.setText("Modify"); refeshButton.setText("Refresh"); fieldSet.add(addButton); fieldSet.add(deleteButton); fieldSet.add(modifyButton); fieldSet.add(refeshButton); final ButtonListenerAdapter buttonClickListener = new ButtonListenerAdapter() { public void onClick(Button button, EventObject e) { if (button == refeshButton) { sendDataToServ("Refresh"); } } }; addButton.addListener(new ButtonListenerAdapter() { @Override public void onClick(Button button, EventObject e) { if (button.getText().equals("Add")) { sendDataToServer("Add"); } } private void sendDataToServer(String action) { String txtcnameToServer = txtcompanyname.getText().trim(); String txtcaddressToServer = txtcompanyaddress.getText().trim(); if (txtcnameToServer.trim().equals("") || txtcaddressToServer.trim().equals("")) { Window .alert("Incomplete Data. • Repaint() not calling paint() in Java

    - by Joshua Auriemma
    Let me start off by saying I know I've violated some basic Java principles in this messy code, but I'm desperately trying to finish a program by Tuesday for a social science experiment, and I don't know Java, so I'm basically just fumbling through it for now. With that disclaimer out of the way, I have a separate program working where a circle is moving around the screen and the user must click on it. It works fine when its in its own separate class file, but when I add the code to my main program, it's no longer working. I don't even really understand why repaint() calls my paint() function — as far as I'm concerned, it's magic, but I've noticed that repaint() calls paint() in my test program, but not in the more complicated actual program, and I assume that's why the circle is no longer painting on my program. Entire code is below: import java.awt.Color; import java.awt.Graphics; import java.awt.Graphics2D; import java.awt.Rectangle; import javax.swing.*; import java.awt.event.*; import java.awt.geom.Ellipse2D; import java.io.FileReader; import java.io.IOException; import java.util.Calendar; public class Reflexology1 extends JFrame{ private static final long serialVersionUID = -1295261024563143679L; private Ellipse2D ball = new Ellipse2D.Double(0, 0, 25, 25); private Timer moveBallTimer; int _ballXpos, _ballYpos; JButton button1, button2; JButton movingButton; JTextArea textArea1; int buttonAClicked, buttonDClicked; private long _openTime = 0; private long _closeTime = 0; JPanel thePanel = new JPanel(); JPanel thePlacebo = new JPanel(); final JFrame frame = new JFrame("Reflexology"); final JFrame frame2 = new JFrame("The Test"); JLabel label1 = new JLabel("Press X and then click the moving dot as fast as you can."); public static void main(String[] args){ new Reflexology1(); } public Reflexology1(){ frame.setSize(600, 475); frame.setLocationRelativeTo(null); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frame.setTitle("Reflexology 1.0"); frame.setResizable(false); frame2.setSize(600, 475); frame2.setLocationRelativeTo(null); frame2.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frame2.setTitle("Reflexology 1.0"); frame2.setResizable(false); button1 = new JButton("Accept"); button2 = new JButton("Decline"); //movingButton = new JButton("Click Me"); ListenForAcceptButton lForAButton = new ListenForAcceptButton(); ListenForDeclineButton lForDButton = new ListenForDeclineButton(); button1.addActionListener(lForAButton); button2.addActionListener(lForDButton); //movingButton.addActionListener(lForMButton); JTextArea textArea1 = new JTextArea(24, 50); textArea1.setText("Tracking Events\n"); textArea1.setLineWrap(true); textArea1.setWrapStyleWord(true); textArea1.setSize(15, 50); textArea1.setEditable(false); FileReader reader = null; try { reader = new FileReader("EULA.txt"); textArea1.read(reader, "EULA.txt"); } catch (IOException exception) { System.err.println("Problem loading file"); exception.printStackTrace(); } finally { if (reader != null) { try { reader.close(); } catch (IOException exception) { System.err.println("Error closing reader"); exception.printStackTrace(); } } } JScrollPane scrollBar1 = new JScrollPane(textArea1, JScrollPane.VERTICAL_SCROLLBAR_AS_NEEDED, JScrollPane.HORIZONTAL_SCROLLBAR_NEVER); AdjustmentListener listener = new MyAdjustmentListener(); thePanel.add(scrollBar1); thePanel.add(button1); thePanel.add(button2); frame.add(thePanel); ListenForMouse lForMouse = new ListenForMouse(); thePlacebo.addMouseListener(lForMouse); thePlacebo.add(label1); frame2.add(thePlacebo); ListenForWindow lForWindow = new ListenForWindow(); frame.addWindowListener(lForWindow); frame2.addKeyListener(new KeyAdapter() { public void keyPressed(KeyEvent e){ if(e.getKeyChar() == 'X' || e.getKeyChar() == 'x') {moveBallTimer.start();} } }); frame.setVisible(true); moveBallTimer = new Timer(1000, new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { moveBall(); System.out.println("Timer started!"); repaint(); } }); addKeyListener(new KeyAdapter() { public void keyPressed(KeyEvent e) { if(frame2.isVisible()){ moveBallTimer.start(); } } }); } private class ListenForAcceptButton implements ActionListener{ public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e){ if (e.getSource() == button1){ Calendar ClCDateTime = Calendar.getInstance(); System.out.println(ClCDateTime.getTimeInMillis() - _openTime); _closeTime = ClCDateTime.getTimeInMillis() - _openTime; //frame.getContentPane().remove(thePanel); //thePlacebo.addKeyListener(lForKeys); //frame.getContentPane().add(thePlacebo); //frame.repaint(); //moveBallTimer.start(); frame.setVisible(false); frame2.setVisible(true); frame2.revalidate(); frame2.repaint(); } } } private class ListenForDeclineButton implements ActionListener{ public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e){ if (e.getSource() == button2){ JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(Reflexology1.this, "You've declined the license agreement. I'm assuming the multiple frames is causing the problem, but that's just a guess. Thanks.
