  • iPhone app getting XML then refreshing it at intervals...

    I have an app which gets some data from the web via an XML document. I have this working fine and have followed apples SeismicXML example (uses NSURLRequest etc). I am very new to this so I have to admit that I do not totally understand all the code that gets the XML - but it is working. My problem is that my app may be running for some time so I want to be able to refresh the XML every now and again and check to see if it is different. If it is different I need to update my contents. Basically this means my questions are.... Is there a standard way of doing this? I was thinking of creating a timer to call the function which parses the XML but I can't figure out which function to call. If anyone can give me any pointers or even better examples of this it would be fab. Thanks

    I need to set sounds for different players in my game. There are 10 players. And I have 10 sounds. The players are loaded int his way for( int i = 1; i <5; i++ ) { [playerAnimation addFrameWithFilename: [NSString stringWithFormat:@"Player %02d gun draw_%02d.png", playerNumber, i]]; } How can I set the sounds in this way by giving the filenames. And player1 shoots player1sound should play. How can I do it using [[SimpleAudioEngine sharedEngine] playEffect:@"player1.sound.wav"];

  • Template apps for iPhone

    Is there a good place to get starter apps for iPhone, where you choose from any of a large set of permutations?...for instance with a nav bar and a flip screen and a 3 deep table view, with Core Data support etc. I guess what I was hoping for is some kind of wizard where you can check a few boxes and have a working app as a starting point....but more than just the 3 or 4 choices that come with xCode. If not a wizard, just a nice set of a couple dozen permutations. Also....is there any good sample apps out there that show the difference between identical apps, one which uses Interface Builder and one not? Aside from being handy for myself, I'd think these would be great as a teaching tool. I've googled a bit and come up with nothing.

    My iPhone app has the following problem: Freshly installed, when I read out my "Play Sound" preference with the following code: defaults = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; NSLog(@"Play Sounds? %d", [defaults boolForKey:@"play_sounds_preference"]); The setting always reads out as false, even though the default setting is set to true. Any ideas? In it I have put (via the IB) an image view of a certain frame In 'cellForRowAtIndexPath', under certain conditions, I would like to modify the frame of this UIImageView, so I write something like: UIImageView *imgv = (UIImageView *)[cell viewWithTag:1]; CGRect r = CGRectMake(20.0, 20.0, 10.0, 10.0); imgv.frame = r; But nothing expected happens (The frame does move a little though not to where I want, but doesn't change its size at all);

  • Problem loading a contents URL into a string

    I've been using this method for a few weeks now as suggested on my previous question and the app now keeps crashing with a Protocol 443 error - something about unable to resolve the address. Worked fine when first installed and then just stopped. The same with on the device itself, worked fine until this morning and now the same issue?? Nothing wrong with the URL as I can still load in a browser. If I leave it for a couple of days it starts working again?? Is there a more effecient way of using the Http POST and GET functions? All I am trying to do is perform a login and save the resulting page to a string. Is there a more Android friendly way?

  • How to get indexPath.row at textFieldDidEndEditing

    Hey all, i use some code for inline cell editing from Apples TaggedLocations Example and im now stuck. At the demo Code they save the changes at textFieldDidEndEditing, this works because they asume to edit only the first element in a table view. I have to edit every row at the table view, so my problem is how to get indexPath.row to update the correct object stored in a mutableArray. Or did i miss something? Thanks for your help!

    Has anyone come across a strange behaviour with the Camera API when used on Sony-Ericsson X10 or Droid? For example the following code doesn't work on those devices. As a result I'm getting a lot of negative feedback on the Market translating into many cancelled orders... mParameters.set("rotation", orientation); mParameters.set("jpeg-quality", img_quality); mParameters.set("picture-size", "1024x768"); mCamera.setParameters(mParameters); Could you suggest an alternative way of achieving the same?   • android drawable changes sizes on screen when reading image from file

    Hi I have an image on a private file. I read the file, create the drawable, and assign it to an ImageView. The ImageView has WRAP_CONTENT so the size is automatic. On 320x480 screens, the image looks good But on screens with more resolution and high density 480x800 or 480x854 (N1, droid) , when the image is for example 150x150, I see the image as 100x100. Of course it has something to do with the density but not sure how should I resolve this.     Hi, My application uses the following codes to connect to web site and download a web page for processing. HttpURLConnection c = (HttpURLConnection) url.openConnection(); c.setRequestMethod("GET"); c.setRequestProperty("User-Agent", "Mozilla/3.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.0; Windows NT)"); c.setRequestProperty("Accept-Language", "zh-hk"); c.setRequestProperty("Connection", "Keep-Alive"); c.setConnectTimeout(6000); // mTimeout is in seconds intTries = 3; do { c.connect(); if (c.getResponseCode() == 200) { break; } else { intTries --; } } while (intTries > 0); The codes are run in main thread only. If WiFi is being used, it is nice and clean. If 3G connection is being used, sometimes, it cannot get connected OR application HANGS. Is there any significant difference between handling WiFi and 3G ? Thanks.

I am prompted to choose from Send by SMS, Send by Email, Send by Bluetooth, Send by Fring etc. How do I make such a popup, it seamed to be automatically built? Also how do I tell what message to use? And if needed how do I tell who the contact is? Maybe chooses the options based on the contact, (if has email, show email)

Whenever I execute cd /data/data/com.mycompck/databases then if I try to run ls I get opendir failed, Permission denied Or whenever I type in: sqlite3 I get sqlite3: permission denied What I am doing wrong?   • Pull To Refresh on iphone not working as expected

    I have been using this: http://blog.leahculver.com/2010/12/iphone-pull-to-refresh.html to make the pull to refresh function in my app. But I cant see the text "Pull down to refresh...", "Release to refresh..." and "Loading...". All I've done is copy the files into my project, link against QuartzCore framework, and changed the .h file of my view controller so it is a subclass of PullRefreshTableViewController. Then I added the refresh method. Is seems that the initWithStyle method in PullRefreshTableViewController never is executed.     I am trying to manage a drill-down list of data. I've got an entity, Contact, that has a to-many relationship with another entity, Rule. In my root view controller, I use a fetched results controller to manage and display the list of Contacts. When a Contact is tapped, I push a new view controller onto the stack with a list of the Contact's Rules. I have not been able to figure out how to use a second fetched results controller to display the Rules, so I'm using the following: // create a set of the contact's rules rules = [NSMutableSet set]; rules = [self.contact mutableSetValueForKey:@"rule"]; // create an array of rules from the set arrayOfRules = [NSMutableArray arrayWithCapacity:[rules count]]; for (id oneObject in rules) [arrayOfRules addObject:oneObject]; // sort the array of rules NSSortDescriptor *descriptor = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"phoneLabel" ascending:YES]; [arrayOfRules sortUsingDescriptors:[NSArray arrayWithObject:descriptor]]; [descriptor release]; I create a set of Rules, then use that to create an array of Rules for sorting. I then use these two collections to populate the grouped table view. All of this appears to be working correctly. Here's my problem: There are several different actions a user can take in this view, and most of them require that I know which Rule was tapped. But I can't figure out how to get that. For instance, say a user wants to delete a Rule. It seems to me the proper approach is something like... [rules removeObject:ruleObjectToBeRemoved] ...but I can't figure out how to specifiy ruleObjectToBeRemoved. I hope all of this makes sense. As usual, thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.
