• ServerName wildcards in Apache name-based virtual hosts?

  On our LAN I've set up several 'fake' TLDs in the DNS server, with the intention of using them for Apache name-based virtual hosting. I'd like to combine this with mass-virtual-hosting (i.e. VirtualDocumentRoot) on an Ubuntu 10.04 LAMP server. However, I can't get it to select the right vhost! Here is a summary of the Apache config: NameVirtualHost 10.10.0.205 <VirtualHost 10.10.0.205> ServerName *.test VirtualDocumentRoot /var/www/%-3.0.%-2/test/%1/ CustomLog /var/log/apache2/access.log vhost_combined </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost 10.10.0.205> ServerName *.dev VirtualDocumentRoot /var/www/%-3.0.%-2/dev/%1/ CustomLog /var/log/apache2/access.log vhost_combined </VirtualHost> A hostname such as www.domain.com.dev, correctly resolves to 10.10.0.205, but always selects the top vhost, instead of the bottom one, which matches more closely. I was under the impression that Apache would first try to match the ServerName before defaulting to the top vhost for a given IP. What am I doing wrong? Or is this not possible and must I use another IP for each TLD? apachectl -S outputs (trimmed): 10.10.0.205:* is a NameVirtualHost default server *.test port * namevhost *.test port * namevhost *.dev

• php5-gd shows in "php -i | grep -i gd" but not in phpinfo();

  I am trying to enable GD in my installation of Apache2, PHP5 and MySQL on my Ubuntu server. I installed php5-gd with: apt-get install php5-gd And when I run php -i I get: gd GD Support => enabled GD Version => 2.0 FreeType Support => enabled FreeType Linkage => with freetype FreeType Version => 2.4.8 T1Lib Support => enabled GIF Read Support => enabled GIF Create Support => enabled JPEG Support => enabled libJPEG Version => unknown PNG Support => enabled libPNG Version => 1.2.46 WBMP Support => enabled Directive => Local Value => Master Value gd.jpeg_ignore_warning => 0 => 0 But it does not show up in phpinfo(); I have restarted the server four times and I have tried to restart Apache2 four million times. Does anyone have any idea of how to fix this problem?

  Hello, I can't successfully configure the apache and php configuration files, can anybody help me in this way? Apache 2.2.16 (win32-x86-no_ssl.msi) was installed into “C:\Apache2.2 “location. Then PHP 5.3.3 (VC9 x86 Thread Safe) zip file was downloaded and extracted on “C:\php” location. From “C:\php” I renamed the “php.ini-development” file into “php.ini” “php.ini” file was opened with notepad, and modified as: doc_root = "C:\Apache2.2\htdocs" extension_dir = "C:\php\ext" The following lines were added to the Apache's configuration file “httpd.conf”: LoadModule php5_module "C:/php/php5apache2_2.dll" AddType application/x-httpd-php .php PHPIniDir "C:/php" N.B.: Thanks all for comments and answer, but I can't reply none your comments, I don't know why. • Internet explorer rejects cookies in kerberos protected intranet sites

  I'm trying to build an intranet site using joomla. The webserver is using HTTP Kerberos authentication with mod_kerb_auth. Everything works fine, the users get authenticated and so on. But if i try to login to the administrator panel i can't because IE does not accept the needed cookies. No such problem with firefox. The intranet site is called "intranet_new" and is hosted by webintranet04, under the directory /var/www/vhosts/joomla/intranet_new/. I need: - the admin interface to work with IE - the "kerberized" zone to accept cookie, because i am deploying other programs requiring cookies.

• SVN Authentication with LDAP and Active Directory

  I am having a few problems getting SVN authentication to work with LDAP / Active Directory. My SVN installation works fine, but after enabling LDAP in my apache vhost, I just can't get my users to authenticate. I can use a selection of LDAP browsers to successfully connect to Active Directory, but just can't seem to get this to work. • Apache and Virtual Hosts Problem on OS X

  I recently formatted and installed my iMac. I am running 10.6.5. Prior to this format, I had the default Apache web server up and running with several virtual hosts, and everything ran beautifully. After formatting, I set everything back up again, and now Apache is acting funny. Here is a description of what I have going on. My default root directory for the Apache Web server is pointed to an external hard drive. In my httpd.conf, here is what I have: DocumentRoot "/Storage/Sites" Then a few lines beneath that: <Directory /> Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride All Order deny,allow Allow from all </Directory> And then beneath that: <Directory "/Storage/Sites"> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride All Order allow,deny Allow from All </Directory> At the end of this file, I have commented out the user dir include conf file: Include /private/etc/apache2/extra/httpd-userdir.conf And uncommented the virtual hosts conf file: Include /private/etc/apache2/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf Moving on, I have the following entry in my vhosts file: <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot "/Storage/Sites/mysite" ServerName mysite.dev </VirtualHost> I also have a host record in my /etc/hosts file that points mysite.dev to 127.0.0.1 (I also tried using my router IP, 192.168.1.2). The problem I am coming across is, despite having PHP files in /Storage/Sites/mysite, the server is still looking at /Storage/Sites. I know this because in the DocumentRoot contains a php file with phpinfo() (whereas the index.php file in mysite has different code). I have tried setting up other virtual hosts, but they are still doing the same thing. Also, "NameVirtualHost *:80" is in my vhosts file. I saw as a solution on another thread here. Doesn't seem to make a difference. Any ideas on this? Let me know if this is not enough information.

• setting up tracd behind mod_proxy?

  I'm having trouble setting up mod_proxy and tracd. Seems almost all the search results for this problem take me to the built-in trac documentation page that mentions it as an option. I have several VirtualServers already running on the box in question, so running tracd on port 80 or 443 is not an option, but I do want to make my trac server accessible on this machine without exposing an additional port via the firewall. Making things even more complicated is that I have multiple trac repositories being served by the same instance of tracd, and so I want to set it up so: http://trac.abc.com is proxy'd to localhost:8000/projects/abcproject, and http://trac.def.com is proxy'd to localhost:8000/projects/defproject. Currently, the setup I have below results in 100% 403 errors. The server is running as www-data and the directory where all trac files are stored is owned by www-data, AND tracd (as show below) is running as www-data, so not sure where it's getting hung up. The relevant configuration on /var/apache2/sites-enabled/trac.abc.com: ProxyPass / http://localhost:8000/abcproject ProxyPassReverse / http://localhost:8000/abcproject The relevant configuration on /var/apache2/sites-enabled/trac.def.com: ProxyPass / http://localhost:8000/defproject ProxyPassReverse / http://localhost:8000/defproject The command used to instantiate tracd: tracd -a defproject,/var/www/vhosts/trac-common/users.htdigest,DEFProject -a abcproject,/var/www/vhosts/trac-common/users.htdigest,ABCProject -p 8000 -b localhost -e /var/www/vhosts/trac-common/projects If I access the site at http://localhost:8000/ everything works fine, but if I try to access via any of the proxy'd hosts I end up with 403 at every turn. I've used mod_proxy successfully as described above for other servers, such as couchdb, so maybe this has to do with the headers sent by tracd??

  I just got myself a slicehost basic slice to play around with so I can learn how to setup web-servers. I have Ubuntu 10.04.2 installed on the server. I was able to successfully get the server up and running from scratch, these were the things I did - following this tutorial. I know this is probably just a starters tutorial, so, I was wondering if you guys can tell me what you like to do while setting up production servers. These are the steps that were followed : Update and Upgrade Ubuntu sudo apt-get install apache2 php5-mysql libapache2-mod-php5 mysql-server Backup a copy of and edit apache2.conf Set : 'ServerTokens Full' to 'ServerTokens Prod''ServerSignature On' to 'ServerSignature Off' Backup php.ini and then Change “expose_php = On” to “expose_php = Off” Restart Apache Install Shorewall firewall Configure Shorewall to only accept HTTP and SSH connections(in the rules file) Enable shorewall on startup Add the website to the server : sudo usermod -g www-data root sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www sudo chmod -R 775 /var/www I want make this CommunityWiki but can't seem to find the option to do it.   I was using XAMPP and decided to uninstall it and use MacOS' in-built apache and php modules. But while uninstalling XAMPP I deleted /usr/bin/php files and other PHP-CLI files accidentally. And I decided to install newest version of PHP (5.5.12) instead of rebuilding current version (5.4.24). Downloaded it and unzip. After this executed this command as mentioned at this guide. ./configure '--with-apxs2=/usr/sbin/apxs' '--enable-cli' '--with-config-file-path=/etc' '--with-zlib=/usr' '--enable-bcmath' '--with-bz2=/usr' '--enable-calendar' '--disable-cgi' '--with-curl=/usr' '--enable-dba' '--enable-ndbm=/usr' '--enable-exif' '--enable-fpm' '--enable-ftp' '--with-gd' '--enable-gd-native-ttf' '--enable-mbregex' '--with-mysql=mysqlnd' '--with-mysqli=mysqlnd' '--with-pear' '--with-pdo-mysql=mysqlnd' '--with-mysql-sock=/var/mysql/mysql.sock' '--with-tidy' '--enable-wddx' '--with-xmlrpc' '--enable-zip' make make install When i check phpinfo() , it's still version 5.4.24 . This line from my httpd.conf LoadModule php5_module libexec/apache2/libphp5.so /usr/libexec/apache2/libphp5.so coming from old version and i couldn't ind libphp5.so for new version. There is no libphp5.so file inside modules dir. How can i use new PHP build with Apache ? UPDATE Results of php -v command . So I'm trying to have any incoming requests for the second domain to be proxied to the other server to access the webmail, whether its port 80 or 443. IMAP and POP3 are no problems, I can just forward the ports directly to the correct server. The results of the above configuration is that requests to domain2.com.au (port 80 or 443) are forwarded to https://domain1.com.au. Am I headed in the right direction?

• Apache using 100% CPU, once again

  Recently, apache2 started using 100% of CPU power: top gives me From other, similar threads, I took the tip to use mod_status. Aside from HUGE amounts of NULL requests, it gives: CPU Usage: u2.16 s1.32 cu0 cs0 - .0835% CPU load 1.2 requests/sec - 17.6 kB/second - 14.6 kB/request 8 requests currently being processed, 42 idle workers The access and error logs do not show anything surprising or intriguing at all. Note the .8% CPU usage. Another tip was to use strace: root@server:~# strace -p 1956 Process 1956 attached - interrupt to quit restart_syscall(<... resuming interrupted call ...> And remains like this for at least half an hour, without producing any additional output. Restarting apache fixed the problem for less than a second The server runs a few custom python scripts aswell as a django-powered website on apache2 (up-to-date), but even turning the scripts off (or not having them active in the first place) did not change anything. After I stopped apache and powered my server off, powered it on a few minutes afterwards and restarted all my services, the CPU usage remained low for several hours, just in order to pop up again randomly (?) The DigitalOcean CPU stats on my server are: You can see how the CPU usage was super high for almost half a day until I restarted the bot - just to remain stable for several hours and then pop up again. I am completely at a loss of words and don't know what I could do to find out what piece of my code is giving me these problems or if apache itself is the cause... Therefore I would greatly appreciate any hints to the questions: What else can I try to do? Which things might I not have checked? Is this definitely in my own code? How do you find what part of python code crashes an app via a infinite loop or similar?

• How to add a writable folder to the PHP document root on linux

  We are building an example bash script for our PHP TestCoverage Tool use on Linux. The development environment is Ubuntu 12.04_1 but we intend to have the linux example work across as many linux versions as possible without modification. The example linux script requires a variable be set to the PHP Document Root path and by default uses a small PHP example source to show the user how our GUI and text report shows the covered and uncovered PHP code areas. The linux script is also intended to be easily alterable by the user to automate the TestCoverage display of users PHP code. The problem we are having with Ubuntu 12.04 (any linux?) is that the PHP Apache2 document root is defined in /etc/apache2/sites-available/default as /var/www and /var/www is defaulted with "drwxr-xr-x" read only access. So in order to add our own folder as /var/www/SDTestCoverage we must change /var/www to "drwxrwxrwx" read-write access. So it seems our script (at least on Ubuntu) will need to ... 1. acquire and save the /var/www permissions then do .. 2. sudo chmod 777 /var/www (to make writable) 3. mkdir -p /var/www/SDTestCoverage (create our folder under the document root) 4. sudo chmod 777 /var/www/SDTestCoverage (make our subfolder writable) 5. and finally restore /var/www permissions Thanks and our Questions are .. 1. Is this the standard way (using Ubuntu) one adds a writable folder under the PHP Document Root? 2. Is this the most general purpose way one adds a writable folder under the PHP Document Root on other versions of Linux?

• Debian 100% cpu every 30 minutes but not loggable?

  I have a Debian 7 x64 machine running with Digital Ocean that has every 30 Minutes a 100% cpu usage for about 1 minute. A couple of days ago it stayed there for a couple of hours so the server finally crashed and I had to repair my Mysql databases. The server is a pure webserver running apache2 and Mysql. I tried tracing which processes use the cpu but with no luck. The script I used: #!/bin/sh while true; do ps -A -eo pcpu,pid,user,args | sort -k 1 -r | head -3 >> proclog.txt; echo "\n" >> proclog.txt; sleep 2; done I was monitoring htop as well while this was happening, but the top processess' cpu usage didn't add up to ~15% even though htop's cpu meter showed constant 100%. htop was configured to show all users' processess, user- and kernel-threads. Edit: By stopping Apache2 & Mysql prior to the expected 100% usage I can tell both are not responsible for it. The 100% usage occurred anyway. This is what the graph looked like the past hours:

• Nexenta, NFS and LOCK_EX

  I'm currently using an LAMP architecture and I expect a big problem :( I have several http web server using PHP5. All are mounting via NFS (v3) the directory for all the hosted websites. The file server is running the Nexenta Storage Appliance using ZFS . The problem is all the NFS client trying to write something in a file over the NFS get this problem : This is inside the apache2 process: open("/nfs/website1/file.txt", ORDWR|OCREAT, 0600) = 11647 fstat(11647, {stmode=SIFREG|0600, st_size=23754, ...}) = 0 flock(11647, LOCK_EX And the process never get the LOCK and keep waiting for... always. The effect? All the apache2 procces get used and waiting.. my severs can't still proccess the others requests because there is no more proccess available. I don't now where to find a solution.. for me it.'s on the NFS server side.. but wich configuration is wrong or missing ? How can I find what is wrong?   We have just moved our server configs to a Git repository. Therefore there should not be any changes in any of the repository folders. I was thinking about how I could set up a cron job to check for any uncommited changes. How could a cron job be set up to check for changes in a Git repository? Greping the output of the git status command might just do it. Grep and cron jobs are not my strong side. Here are some sample outputs from git status: Standing the folder containing the git repository (e.g. /path/gitrepo/) with changed files: $ git status # On branch master # Changes not staged for commit: # (use "git add <file>..." to update what will be committed) # (use "git checkout -- <file>..." to discard changes in working directory) # # modified: apache2/sites-enabled/000-default # # Untracked files: # (use "git add <file>..." to include in what will be committed) # # apache2/conf.d/test no changes added to commit (use "git add" and/or "git commit -a") Standing in the folder when there is no changes: $ git status # On branch master nothing to commit (working directory clean) Update: Synced up with origin is not important. There should be no local changes. Local files that must be in place go into the .gitignore file. In addition to the server configs there are also git repos for content (static web sites, web apps, wordpress, etc). None of the repositories should have local changes. We might use Puppet in the long run since its being used for development of one of the web apps.

Although it works, when I run the site in Internet Explorer, a security warning comes up similar to this: The current webpage is trying to open a site in your Trusted sites list. None of my pages use SSL. I've also tried turning facebook-logo='false' but still no luck. Any ideas on how to fix this? Although it's not show-stopping, it doesn't give a good impression to users who may be feel it insecure. Thanks

  I'm trying to configure OpenVPN with openvpn-auth-ldap plugin to authorize users via Active Directory LDAP. • Integrating POP3 client functionality into a C# application?

  I have a web application that requires a server based component to periodically access POP3 email boxes and retrieve emails. The service then needs to process the emails which will involve: Validating the email against some business rules (does it contain a valid reference in the subject line, which user sent the mail, etc.) Analysing and saving any attachments to disk Take the email body and attachment details and create a new item in the database Or update an existing item where the reference matches the incoming email subject line What is the best way to approach this? I really don't want to have to write a POP3 client from scratch, but I need to be able to customize the processing of emails. Ideally I would be able to plug in some component that does the access and retrieval for me, returning arrays of attachments, body text, subject line, etc. ready for my processing... [ UPDATE: Reviews ] OK, so I have spent a fair amount of time looking into (mainly free) .NET POP3 libraries so I thought I'd provide a short review of some of those mentioned below and a few others: Pop3.net - free - works OK, very basic in terms of functionality provided. This is pretty much just the POP3 commands and some base64 encoding, but it's very straight forward - probably a good introduction Pop3 Wizard - commercial / some open source code - couldn't get this to build, missing DLLs, I wouldn't bother with this C#Mail - free - works well, comes with Mime parser and SMTP client, however the comments are in Japanese (not a big deal) and it didn't work with SSL 'out of the box' - I had to change the SslStream constructor after which it worked no problem OpenPOP - free - hasn't been updated for about 5 years so it's current state is .NET 1.0, doesn't support SSL but that was no problem to resolve - I just replaced the existing stream with an SslStream and it worked. Comes with Mime parser. Of the free libraries, I'd go for C#Mail or OpenPOP. I looked at a few commercial libraries: Chillkat, Rebex, RemObjects, JMail.net. Based on features, price and impression of the company I would probably go for Rebex and may in the future if my requirements change or I run into production issues with either of C#Mail or OpenPOP. • Load balancing and sessions

  Hi there, What is the better approach for load balancing on web servers? My services run in .NET and Mono, so they could be hosted on IIS or Apache2, and the will have to provide SSL connection. I've read two main approaches, store the state in a common server and use sticky sessions, there is any other else? I've read 3 diffent things about sticky sessions: 1)the load balancing device will know with which server did you start the connection and all the further connections from that host will be routed to the same server. 2)the load balancing devide read a cookie named: JSESSIONID 3)the load balancing devide read a cookie named: ASPSESSIONID I'm a little bit confused, what will happen exactly? As the connections will be SSL there is not a chance for the load balancing devide of read the cookies, so then what? About store the estate in a common server, what solutions do you know? I've read memcache is a good solution but is there any other else? Cheers.

Browsing http://myserver/webdrive/ from a web browser is working fine, and I have a similar set-up working perfectly on a different SVN server that isn't running Collabnet but has had Subversion and Apache installed and configured separately. Any ideas? The python version error might be red herring - I've seen it in a couple of places in the log files and in other scenarios it doesn't appear to be breaking anything...

• Rails: Open HTTP URL From HTTPS site

  I have a rails application running on SSL. I also have setup Piwik (for analytics) and it is running non-secure i.e. HTTP.
