• HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() - what specific status codes cause an exception to be thrown?

  I've hunted around for some definitive documentation on this but haven't had much luck finding any. Basically - the question is - for which HTTP Status codes coming back from the server will HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() generate a WebException after doing something like say, a POST? Specifically - will it generate a WebException for anything other than status 200 OK? Or will it only generate a WebException for say, 400, 404, and 500 (for the sake of argument). I want to know since, the server I'm communicating with defines anything other than HTTP 200 OK coming back as an error condition - and the key is, can I rely on a WebException being generated for anything other than 200? (I've currently written my code so that it'll actually check the return status code everytime to ensure it's 200 OK and if it's not, take appropriate action - but it's alot of duplication between that, and the catch block for a WebException, and I'm hoping to clean it up...) Any relevant links to documentation would be most appreciated. Thanks!

  I am trying to reconnect to a socket that I have disconnected from but it won't allow it for some reason even though I called the Disconnect method with the argument "reuseSocket" set to true. _socket = new Socket(AddressFamily.InterNetwork, SocketType.Stream, ProtocolType.Tcp); _socket.Connect(ipAddress, port); //...receive data _socket.Disconnect(true); //reuseSocket = true //...wait _socket.Connect(ipAddress, port); //throws an InvalidOperationException: Once the socket has been disconnected, you can only reconnect again asynchronously, and only to a different EndPoint. BeginConnect must be called on a thread that won't exit until the operation has been completed. What am I doing wrong?

• Ruby Programming Techniques: simple yet not so simple object manipulation

  Hi, I want to create an object, let's say a Pie. class Pie def initialize(name, flavor) @name = name @flavor = flavor end end But a Pie can be divided in 8 pieces, a half or just a whole Pie. For the sake of argument, I would like to know how I could give each Pie object a price per 1/8, 1/4 or per whole. I could do this by doing: class Pie def initialize(name, flavor, price_all, price_half, price_piece) @name = name @flavor = flavor @price_all = price_all @price_half = price_half @price_piece = price_piece end end But now, if I would create fifteen Pie objects, and I would take out randomly some pieces somewhere by using a method such as getPieceOfPie(pie_name) How would I be able to generate the value of all the available pies that are whole and the remaining pieces? Eventually using a method such as: myCurrentInventoryHas(pie_name) # output: 2 whole strawberry pies and 7 pieces. I know, I am a Ruby nuby. Thank you for your answers, comments and help!

  I have to draw a 20 plots and horizontally place a legends in each plots. I gave the following command for the first plot: plot(x=1:4,y=1:4) legend("bottom",legend = c("a","b","c","d"),horiz=TRUE,text.font=2,cex=0.64) then for the second plot I tried : plot(x=1:2,y=1:2) legend("bottom",legend = c("a","b"),horiz=TRUE,text.font=2,cex=0.64) But because the size of the character vector passed to legend argument are different I get the size of the legend different. Since I have to plot so many different plots having varying sizes of legends,I would want to do it in an automated fashion. Is there a way to do this which can fix the size of the legend in all the plots and fit it to graph size?

  I'm building an app with PySide, there's some image manipulation that needs to be done and using Python code for this is way too slow. Therefore I hacked out a .dll file that will do it for me. The function definition is as follows: extern "C" { QRectF get_image_slant(QImage *img, float slantangle, float offset) { Now I can load this function in via ctypes. But I can't seem to get ctypes to accept a QImage. I tried calling it like this: ext.get_image_slant(QImage(), 0, 0) And the reply I get is: File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> ctypes.ArgumentError: argument 1: <type 'exceptions.TypeError'>: Don't know how to convert parameter 1 I tired casting the QImage to a c_void_p and it doesn't like that either. From what I can tell QImage() in python should map exactly to a QImage * in C, but Python doesn't seem to understand that.. Is there any way to force the casting?

• How to CompareTo two Object without known about their real type

  I have to implement a one linked list but it should put object in appropriate position. Everything was OK when I use it in conjunction with specific class, but when I tried make it universal and argument of method insert was Object some problem appeared. When I want to input Object in right position I should use CompareTo method, but there isn't method in Object class! The problem is how to compare two object elements without known about their real types. Maybe I should use generic class type? But what about CompareTo? Or maybe combine with Element class and place CompareTo there? • [Ruby] OpenSSL verify certificate from own CA

  Hello all and thanks for your time reading this. I need to verify certificates issued by my own CA, for which I have a certificate. How can I do the equivalent to openssl's openssl verify -CAfile in Ruby code? The RDoc for OpenSSL is not very helpful in this regard. I've tried: require 'openssl' ca = OpenSSL::X509::Certificate.new(File.read('ca-cert.pem')) lic = OpenSSL::X509::Certificate.new(File.read('cert.pem')) puts lic.verify( ca ) but I get: test.rb:7:in `verify': wrong argument (OpenSSL::X509::Certificate)! (Expected kind of OpenSSL::PKey::PKey) (TypeError) from test.rb:7 I can't even find "verify" in the OpenSSL Rdoc at http://www.ruby-doc.org/stdlib/libdoc/openssl/rdoc/index.html. • Override default behavior of SPACE key in .net WinForms ListView

  Hello, I'd like to implement some custom behavior of Space key in a ListView. Basically I'd like to toggle selected status of the item under cursor - that should be fairly simple this.FocusedItem.Selected = !this.FocusedItem.Selected; but alas, it also does the default action, which is to select the focused item. This way I am unable to 'unselect' the focused item. I've looked for similar problems and they suggest using PreviewKeyDown event, in which I would process the key and disallow the ListView to do its default action. But the PreviewKeyDown event argument has no "handled" property, so I cannot 'eat' this key.

• Why does ffmpeg stop randomly in the middle of a process?

  ffmpeg feels like its taking a long time. I then look at my output file and i see it stops between 6 and 8mbs. A fully encoded file is about 14mb. Why does ffmpeg stop? My code locks up on StandardOutput.ReadToEnd();. I had to kill the process (after seeing it not move for more then 10 seconds when i see it update every second previously) then i get the results of stdout and err. stdout is "" stderr is below. The output msg shows the filesize ended. I also see a drop in my CPU usage when it stops. I copyed the argument from visual studios. CD to the same working directory and ran the cmd (bin/ffmpeg) and pasted the argument. • cross-compiling autoconf-based tools with mingw on Mac OS X

  I'd like to cross-compile some open-source libraries (libiconv, gettext, glib2) for windows using mingw on Mac OS X. I've installed mingw on Mac with MacPorts. But now I'm not sure what to give to the configure script so that it will work. The cross-compilation tutorials I've seen all talk about makefiles, but no one mentions what to give autoconf-based projects. I'm configuring like this: ./configure --prefix=/opt/local/i386-mingw32 --host=i586-mingw32msvc but it doesn't seem to take. While the configure will pass, running "make" will give this error: i686-apple-darwin9-gcc-4.0.1: no input files I thought the "--host" argument to configure was supposed to tell it to use the mingw compiler? I'm not sure what's going on here.

  I am trying to get Uploadify working with Rails 3. However, I can't insert the middleware with the correct arguments. This is the Rails 2 way: ActionController::Dispatcher.middleware.insert_before( ActionController::Session::CookieStore, FlashSessionCookieMiddleware, ActionController::Base.session_options[:key] ) This is what I have so far for Rails 3: Rails.application.config.middleware.insert_before( Rails.application.config.session_store, FlashSessionCookieMiddleware, Rails.application.config.session_options[:key] ) However, this gives: kevin$hephaestus:$exposure [1035 | 0]% rake middleware (in /Users/kevin/Projects/exposure) rake aborted! protected method `session_options' called for #<Rails::Application::Configuration:0x101eb28d0> (See full trace by running task with --trace) zsh: exit 1 rake middleware When I comment out the session_options argument, the middleware is successfully inserted, but it can't do what it is supposed to. Any suggestions?

  I'm just reading Code Complete by Steve McConell and I'm thinking of an Example he gives in a section about loose coupling. It's about the interface of a method that calculates the number of holidays for an employee, which is calculated from the entry date of the employee and her sales. The author suggests a to have entry date and sales as the parameters of the method instead of an instance of the employee: int holidays(Date entryDate, Number sales) instead of int holidays(Employee emp) The argument is that this decouples the client of the method because it does not need to know anything about the Employee class. Two things came to my mind: Providing all the parameters that are needed for the calculation breaks encapsulation. It shows the internals of the method on how it computes the result. It's harder to change, e.g. when someone decides that also the age of the employee should be included in the calculation. One would have to change the signature. What's your opinion?

I want to perform the inverse: creation of a string from an integer. i.e. I want some function int2base(num,base) such that: int( int2base( X , BASE ) , BASE ) == X the function name/argument order is unimportant For any number X and base BASE that int() will accept. This is an easy function to write -- in fact easier than describing it in this question -- however, I feel like I must be missing something.   When hitting a button, an error would occur: System.Web.HttpUnhandledException: Exception of type 'System.Web.HttpUnhandledException' was thrown. --- System.ArgumentException: Invalid postback or callback argument. Event validation is enabled using in configuration or in a page. For security purposes, this feature verifies that arguments to postback or callback events originate from the server control that originally rendered them. If the data is valid and expected, use the ClientScriptManager.RegisterForEventValidation method in order to register the postback or callback data for validation. I then added EnableEventValidation="false" into my @Page directive, which fixed the error. Now after manipulating the listbox, the new values in the listbox are not posted back to the server. How can I solve this?

Is it possible to parse Win32 DLL/Exe in C#.NET, read its export table,import table and get managed types from it. As its unmanaged PE(.NET doesn't allows you to convert unmanaged PE files to managed .NET assemblies, only it generates COM managed assemblies). So how to parse export and import tables of PE files and take all methods(signatures from it) in managed form.(e.g if char* as argument, it should display as IntPtr) Regards Usman

I've tried to implement this using Zip function: rows.Zip(Enumerable.Range(1, int.MaxValue), (row, index) => new { Row = row, Index = index }) .Subscribe(a => ProcessRow(a.Row, a.Index), () => Completed()); .. but unfortunately this throws ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Specified argument was out of the range of valid values. Parameter name: disposables Am I understanding the Zip function wrong or is there a problem with my code? The Range part of the code doesn't seem to be the problem and the IObservable isn't yet receiving any events.
