  • Should I use Vaadin Framework

    - by Maksim
I just tried to play with Vaadin Framework and it seems to me very easy to use. Plus what I like about his framework is that it is built on top of GWT. What do you think, should I continue using this framework or it's better to stick with GWT.

  • How to cache method results in .Net

    - by SP
Using webmethods, caching the results is pretty straight forward using "CacheDuration" attribute. Is there a similar "easy" way to cache non-webmethod outputs (or static methods) based on the parameters? I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance!

  • Graph layouting with Perl

    - by jonny
Ok, I have a flowchart definition (basically, array of nodes and edges for each node). Now I want to calculate coordinates for every task in the flow, preferably hierarchycal style. I need something like Graph::Easy::Layout but I have no idea how to get nodes coordinates: I render nodes myself and I only want to retrieve box coordinates/size. Any suggestions? What I need is a cpan module avialable even in Debian repository.

  • Haskell: Left-biased/short-circuiting function

    - by user2967411
Two classes ago, our professor presented to us a Parser module. Here is the code: module Parser (Parser,parser,runParser,satisfy,char,string,many,many1,(+++)) where import Data.Char import Control.Monad import Control.Monad.State type Parser = StateT String [] runParser :: Parser a -> String -> [(a,String)] runParser = runStateT parser :: (String -> [(a,String)]) -> Parser a parser = StateT satisfy :: (Char -> Bool) -> Parser Char satisfy f = parser $ \s -> case s of [] -> [] a:as -> [(a,as) | f a] char :: Char -> Parser Char char = satisfy . (==) alpha, digit :: Parser Char alpha = satisfy isAlpha digit = satisfy isDigit string :: String -> Parser String string = mapM char infixr 5 +++ (+++) :: Parser a -> Parser a -> Parser a (+++) = mplus many, many1 :: Parser a -> Parser [a] many p = return [] +++ many1 p many1 p = liftM2 (:) p (many p) Today he gave us an assignment to introduce "a left-biased, or short-circuiting version of (+++)", called (<++). His hint was for us to consider the original implementation of (+++). When he first introduced +++ to us, this was the code he wrote, which I am going to call the original implementation: infixr 5 +++ (+++) :: Parser a -> Parser a -> Parser a p +++ q = Parser $ \s -> runParser p s ++ runParser q s I have been having tons of trouble since we were introduced to parsing and so it continues. I have tried/am considering two approaches. 1) Use the "original" implementation, as in p +++ q = Parser $ \s - runParser p s ++ runParser q s 2) Use the final implementation, as in (+++) = mplus Here are my questions: 1) The module will not compile if I use the original implementation. The error: Not in scope: data constructor 'Parser'. It compiles fine using (+++) = mplus. What is wrong with using the original implementation that is avoided by using the final implementation? 2) How do I check if the first Parser returns anything? Is something like (not (isNothing (Parser $ \s - runParser p s) on the right track? It seems like it should be easy but I have no idea. 3) Once I figure out how to check if the first Parser returns anything, if I am to base my code on the final implementation, would it be as easy as this?: -- if p returns something then p <++ q = mplus (Parser $ \s -> runParser p s) mzero -- else (<++) = mplus Best, Jeff

  • BitSet to and from integer/long

    - by ataylor
If I have an integer that I'd like to perform bit manipulation on, how can I load it into a java.util.BitSet? How can I convert it back to an int or long? I'm not so concerned about the size of the BitSet -- it will always be 32 or 64 bits long. I'd just like to use the set(), clear(), nextSetBit(), and nextClearBit() methods rather than bitwise operators, but I can't find an easy way to initialize a bit set with a numeric type.

  • Sparxsystems Enterprise Architect and issuses/tasks tracking system?

    - by peperg
We (developement team 4 upto 7 people) use Sparxsystems EA for requirement analysis, modeling etc. Do you know any well-working methods to use EA and some task/issue tracking system like Redmine/Mantis/Trac ? The problem is not to duplicate functionality (there are issues/tasks/changes in Redmine and EA) but to have some user friendly interface (preffered web) to manage tasks and issues. By user-friendly I mean "my tasks" page add effort / time tracking easy "add issue" by everyone (simple bug tracking system) mail notifications

  • Apple push notifications and Emoji characters...

    - by Friendlydeveloper
Hello, I recently found this very interesting article on APNS and Emoji characters: EASY APNS - Just for fun It contains a list with all supported Emojis. However, I couldn't get them to display in my push notifications. All I get is the code, not the image. For example, if I add \ue415 (a smiley) to my message, I never see the image, just the code. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

  • Access control for cross site requests in Internet Explorer

    - by Aleksandar
I am trying to make an AJAX call from several domains to a single one which will handle the request. Enabling Cross domain in Firefox and Chrome was easy by setting the header on the handling server: header("Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *"); But this doesn't help enabling it in Internet Explorer. When I try: httpreq.send(''); it stops with error Access denied. How can this be enabled in Internet Explorer?

  • Converting Straight Quotes to Curly Quotes

    - by BlueVoid
I have an application which uses a javascript based rules engine. I need a way to convert regular straight quotes into curl (or smart) quotes. It'd be easy to just do a string.replace for ["], only this will only insert one case of the curly quote. The best way I could think of was replace the first occurrence of a quote with a left curly quote and every other one following with a left, and the rest right curly. Is there a way to accomplish this using javascript?

  • Convert time to decimals in .net

    - by henrico
Is there an easy way to present time (hh:mm) as a decimal value? Example, 01:08 should become 1,13. I have an asp:textbox masked (ajax) as time with the mask format "99:99". Next to this box I need to present the entered value as decimal. <asp:TextBox ID="time" runat="server" /> hh:mm ([time in decimal format]) <ajaxToolkit:MaskedEditExtender runat="server" Mask="99:99" TargetControlID="time" MaskType="Time" />

  • sort associative array in awk - help?

    - by Richard
Hi all, I have an associative array in awk that gets populated like this... chr_count[$3]++ When I try to print my chr_counts I use this: for (i in chr_count) { print i,":",chr_count[i]; } But not surprisingly, the order of i is not sorted in any way. Is there an easy way to iterate over the sorted "keys" of chr_count?

  • Permutation algorithm without recursion? Java

    - by Andreas Hornig
Hi, I would like to get all combination of a number without any repetation. Like 0.1.2, 0.2.1, 1.2.0, 1.0.2, 2.0.1, 2.1.0. I tried to find an easy scheme but couldn't find so I drawed a graph/tree for it and this screams to use recursion. But I would like to do it without, if this is possible. So could anyone please help me how to do that? Thank you in advance, Andreas

  • Facebook style JQuery autocomplete plugin

    - by Luke Lowrey
Im after a plugin to do autocomplete like facebook does in that you can select multiple items - similar to how tagging a stackoverflow question works. Here are a couple I ran into: http://wharsojo.wordpress.com/2008/02/18/jquery-facebook-autocomplete http://www.emposha.com/javascript/fcbkcomplete.html http://loopj.com/2009/04/25/jquery-plugin-tokenizing-autocomplete-text-entry/ Have you tried any of these? Were they easy to implement and customize?

  • Does mixing Quartz and OpenGL-ES cause big performance degrade??

    - by Eonil
I have a plan to make a game using OpenGL for 3D world view, and CALayer(or UIView) for HUD UI. It's easy to imagine performance degrade from mixing them, but the document which mention this impact disappeared: http://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/technotes/tn2008/tn2230.html I cannot find the document on current version of SDK reference. And I got this document: http://gamesfromwithin.com/gdc-2010-the-best-of-both-worlds-using-uikit-with-opengl If you experienced about this, please let me know about performance impact on current SDK.

  • Python: Create a duplicate of an array

    - by Dan
I have an double array alist[1][1]=-1 alist2=[] for x in xrange(10): alist2.append(alist[x]) alist2[1][1]=15 print alist[1][1] and I get 15. Clearly I'm passing a pointer rather than an actual variable... Is there an easy way to make a seperate double array (no shared pointers) without having to do a double for loop? Thanks, Dan
