• Creating a specialised view filtering form in Rails

  G'day guys, I have a current set of data, and I generate multiple analyses of this data (each analysis into its own active record item called a pricing_interval) using a helper function at the moment. Currently to analyse the set of data, you need a start time(using datetime_select) an integer (using text_field) and a name (using text_field) I would like on submission of the form to be redirected to the index page of my pricing_interval, as the values will be re-generated. Manually generating a range proves that my helper methods work. How would I build a form that on submit would send parameters to a function in the form of (date,integer,name) so that it could immediately begin work whilst redirecting the user to server/pricing_intervals Anything at all would help, I've spent hours over the past few days trying to get the rails form syntax working properly to no avail, a really straightforward guide to what I would implement to get this working would be amazingly appreciated. I've looked through the form guides, as I'm not creating an object, but merely parsing params, there's got to be an easy way to do this, right?

• Conditional Validation with Paperclip difficult

  Hi, I have an "item", which goes through a multi-page creation process. Images are uploaded at step five, and I keep track of the steps by using the attribute "complete". When validating whether an image is attached with paperclip, I get problems using the code below: validates_attachment_presence :pic1, :if => Proc.new { |u| u.complete == "step5"} It seems that I can't access the "complete" attribute, as the active-record object seems to be the paperclip image. Is there a way for me to check at which point in the process I am and validate conditionally? Thanks, Michael

• XCode automatically deactivating breakpoints

  I'm using xcode in C++. I'm trying to debug my project, but at random intervals, it seems to ignore my breakpoints. There are three things that it does: 1) Sometimes, when I run, it automatically switches to "de-activate break points" mode. (the relevant button goes light and says "Activate") 2) Sometimes when I run, ALL of my breakpoints go "can't find" mode, with the yellow insides. I need to click twice on them to get them back dark blue (once to light blue = inactive, once to dark blue = active) 3) Sometimes, when I run, my breakpoint is dark blue, the button says "deactivate" and it still just ignores my breakpoint, running straight past it. This makes it very difficult to debug my program... I should add that I'm using XCode 3.1 beta on OSX 10.5.6, in case that matters. thanks.

• Get Contact Profile Information from Office Communicator (OCS) SDK in C#?

  Hi, My company uses MS Office Communicator Server (OCS) 2007 R2, and I am accessing with C# with the SDK. If I right click on a contact in OCS, I get the option to 'View Contact Card'. I want access to this via the API! Unfortunately I can find nothing in the SDK documentation to get at this. There is a method called 'ViewProfile' which is unsupported, and I can find nothing out there about it. I could of course go directly to the Active Directory account of the contact, but that would require my machine to connect to the organization via VPN. Since most of us work 'offline' I would prefer not to do this. (The data I need is anyway in OCS!) Thanks in advance, Andrew

  Can you help me understand Linux HA? Pacemaker, Heartbeat, Corosync seem to be part of a whole HA stack, but how do they fit together? How does wackamole differ from Pacemaker/Heartbeat/Corosync? I've seen opinions that wackamole is better than Heartbeat because it's peer-based. Is that valid? The last release of wackamole was 2.5 years ago. Is it still being maintained or active? What would you recommend for HA setup for web/application/database servers?

• Dragging a Sprite (Cocos2D) while Chipmunk is simulating

  Hello all! I have a simple project built with Cocos2D and Chipmunk. So far it's just a Ball (body, shape & sprite) bouncing on the Ground (a static line segment at the bottom of the screen). I implemented the ccTouchesBegan/Moved/Ended methods to drag the ball around. I've tried both: cpBodySlew(ballBody, touchPoint, 1.0/60.0f); and ballBody->p = cgPointMake(touchPoint.x,touchPoint.y); and while the Ball does follow my dragging, it's still being affected by gravity and it tries to go down (which causes velocity problems and others). Does anyone know of the preferred way to Drag an active Body while the physics simulation is going on? Do I need somehow to stop the simulation and turn it back on afterwards? Thanks!

• UITabBarController's 'More' navigation controller disappears under UINavigationController

  I am using a UITabBarController as well as a UINavigationController on my app. In my UITabBarController I am using more than 5 items so I automatically get the 'More' item. I've managed to add a saving procedure so the order of those items will be kept in case somebody changes the order etc. With 'More' active I get the More navigation controller with the 'Edit' item positioned under my UINavigationController. Both navigation controller are visible. When I click on 'Edit though the More navigation controller disappears and seem to be hiding under my UINavigationController and therefore I can't see/use the 'Done' function to save my new order What did I miss? But AppleScript's awkward verbosity and the lack of non-trivial MS Excel AppleScript examples on the web are too much for me to overcome.   I've spent most of my time in statically typed languages (primarily C#). I have some bad experiences with the Active Record pattern and unit testing, because of the static methods and the mix of entities and data access code. Since the Ruby community probably is the most test driven of the communities out there, and the Rails ActiveRecord seems popular, there must be some way of combining TDD and ActiveRecord based code in Ruby on Rails. I would guess that the problem goes away in dynamic languages, somehow, but I don't see how. So, what's the trick?

  I could not find a Stack Overflow notifier Android app so I am planning on making one. I hope that my app will serve a similar purpose as the Stack Overflow Notifier Chrome extension. This will be my first Android app so I am still unfamiliar with the platform. My main concern when creating this app is, what is the proper way to access the user's Recent Activity page? I thought of two different approaches but I'm not sure how to implement either one: Make the user login to Stack Overflow through the Browser application or an embedded browser and scrape their recent activity page occasionally for updates. Ask the user for their username and password and forward this information to Stack Overflow for authentication, storing cookies somehow to keep the session active. I think Astrid uses something similar to the first approach, but I haven't been able to figure it out yet from skimming their code. What is the correct way to handle a notification application like this that requires session management?

  Hello everybody, I'm trying to resolve/close Dynamics CRM4 cases/incidents through webservices. A single SetStateIncidentRequest is not enough and returns a Server was unable to process request error message. I think it has something to do with active workflows that trigger on case's attribute changes. I don't know if there's anything else preventing the request to work. Since it is possible to close those cases through the GUI, I guess there's a "correct" set of steps to follow in order to achieve it through CrmService; unfortunately, I've been googleing it for a while without finding what I want. Could anybody help me, please?

  Since Django 1.2 final is almost out, I am curious if there are already projects that use the new object level permissions / row level permissions system. [django-authority][1] which is a possible solution for Django up to 1.1 has not been updated for a while, and does not (yet) use the new permissions system. It seems to me that Django-Authority is in a comatose state. Does someone know about upcoming or maybe even finished solutions? • Keep Window Inactive In Appearance Even When Activated

  Is there a way to keep a window inactive looking, even if it contains focus? I have two forms (A and B). After the user interacts with A, I transfer focus back to B. The result of the focus transfers (the user clicking on the A, then focus being transferred back to B) is that form A blinks from active to inactive. This looks ugly (especially on Vista where A momentarily gets a bigger shadow). How can I make A stay inactive looking so this blinking will not happen?

• Why a very good PHP framework - Qcodo (or Qcubed - its branch) - is so unpopular?

  I am wondering why this framework (QCodo) is almost forgotten and totally unpopular. I've started using it a few years ago and it is the only thing that keeps me with PHP. Yeah ... its development is stuck (that's why there is now more active branch Qcubed) but it is still very good piece of software. Its main advantages: Event driven (something like asp.net) no spaghetti code Powerful code generation good ORM follows DRY very simple AJAX support is fun to write Since then I wanted to be trendy and checked Django but I cannot write normal request-based web application (it just doesn't feel right). Don't believe? chess.com is written with it and surely there are plenty others. My 2 questions are: Have you heard of it (PHP people)? If you are using it what is your opinion about it (show us examples of your work) Thanks

  Hello, i have a grails application with a webflow. I store my inner flow objects of interest in the converstaion scope. After entering and leaving the flow a few times, i see that the single user connected to the DB (MySql) generates a lot of threads on the MySql Server which are not released. The processlist in mysql show me the threads in sleeping mode and a netstat on the client shows me established connections to the mysql server. I assume the connections are held active and not released. But why is that? What do grails exactly do when entering and leaving a flow? Why are so many connections opened and not closed? • Asp.Net MVC - Plugins Directory, Community etc?

  Good evening everyone, I am currently starting to dive into asp.net mvc and I really like what I see so far.. BUT I am somewhat confused about 'drop-in' functionality (similiar to what rails and it's plugins and nowadays gems are), an active community to contact etc. For rails there's github with one massiv index of plugins/gems/code-examples regarding mostly rails (despite their goal being generic source-code hosting..), for blogs, mailing lists etc it's also pretty easy to find the places the other developers flock around, but... for asp.net mvc I am somewhat lost where to go/look. It all seems scattered across codeplex and private sites, google code hosting etc etc.. but is there one (or few places) where to turn to regarding asp.net mvc development, sample code etc? Searches of pretty much everywhere I could think of turn up little to explain why the rate is so low. I asked a few friends and they're seeing the same thing. What gives and how can I make it better?
