  • Added a Facebook badge, throwing off footer placement

    - by Kevin
    Added the for the facebook badge to the site and now it's thrown my placement for the footer off .. it's working fine in Chrome, but IE, FFox and Opera all experiencing problems... Here is a screenshot: The footer (brown bar) is supposed to be at the bottom... Here is the CSS : /* footer */ #footer{ background:url(../images/bg-footer.png) no-repeat; height:26px; overflow:hidden; padding:35px 0 0 55px; font-size:11px; } #footer p{ margin:0; display:inline; color:#766623; } #footer ul{ margin:0; padding:0; list-style:none; display:inline; } #footer li{ display:inline; background:url(../images/sep-f-nav.gif) no-repeat 100% 55%; padding:0 6px 0 0; position:relative; } * html #footer li{ padding:0 3px 0 3px; } *+html #footer li{ padding:0 3px 0 3px; } #footer a{ color:#30481f; text-decoration:none; } #footer a:hover{ text-decoration:underline; /*Facebook badge Holder*/ .fb-area{ width:287px; padding:0 0; margin:0 0; min-height:100%; }

  • C++ class derivation and superconstructor confusion

    - by LukeN
Hey, in a tutorial C++ code, I found this particular piece of confusion: PlasmaTutorial1::PlasmaTutorial1(QObject *parent, const QVariantList &args) : Plasma::Applet(parent, args), // <- Okay, Plasma = namespace, Applet = class m_svg(this), // <- A member function of class "Applet"? m_icon("document") // <- ditto? { m_svg.setImagePath("widgets/background"); // this will get us the standard applet background, for free! setBackgroundHints(DefaultBackground); resize(200, 200); } I'm not new to object oriented programming, so class derivation and super-classes are nothing complicated, but this syntax here got me confused. The header file defines the class like this: class PlasmaTutorial1 : public Plasma::Applet { Similar to above, namespace Plasma and class Applet. But what's the public doing there? I fear that I already know the concept but don't grasp the C++ syntax/way of doing it. In this question I picked up that these are called "superconstructors", at least that's what stuck in my memory, but I don't get this to the full extend. If we glance back at the first snippet, we see Constructor::Class(...) : NS::SuperClass(...), all fine 'till here. But what are m_svg(this), m_icon("document") doing there? Is this some kind of method to make these particular functions known to the derivated class? Is this part of C++ basics or more immediate? While I'm not completly lost in C++, I feel much more at home in C :) Most of the OOP I have done so far was done in D, Ruby or Python. For example in D I would just define class MyClass : MySuperClass, override what I needed to and call the super class' constructor if I'd need to.

  • Left floated element and unordered lists (ul).

Hello, I am trying to indent the li elements of a ul. There is a left floated div with an image in it. The li element will indent only if I add left padding that is wider than the image itself. I you would like to look at a version irl, take a look. • Custom Android layout that handles its children

    - by Gromix
Hi, I'm trying to create a custom Android control to emulate a LinearLayout with a fancier display. Basically, I want the exact behaviour of a LinearLayout, but also borders, a background, ... I could do it all in XML (works great) but since I have dozens of occurences in my app it's getting hard to maintain. I thought it would be nicer to have something like this: /* Main.xml */ <MyFancyLayout> <TextView /> <ImageView /> </MyfancyLayout> My problem is, I don't want to have to re-write LinearLayout, so is there a way to only change its appearance? I got as far as this, which doesn't work... can anyone think of a better approach? /* MyFancyLayout.xml */ <merge> ... the complex hierarchy to make it look like what I want ... with background attributes etc </merge> and /* MyFancyLayout.java */ public class MyFancyLayout extends LinearLayout { // inflate the XML // move all the real children (as given by main.xml) to the inflated layout // do I still need to override onMeasure and onLayout? } Cheers! • AsyncTask never finishes when other tasks are running

    - by rebeccamaher
In my app, I show a menu screen immediately to the user and then use an AsyncTask to load some data from disk. Loading takes about 3 seconds if that's all the app had to do. When the user hits a menu option and the data hasn't loaded yet, a "Please wait, loading" screen appears. I have two problems: I recently added ads to my app and have found this is making my app hang sometimes because the AsyncTask never finishes loading. What seems to be happening is that the ad banner (I'm using admob and this happens when adsense ads are shown which admob do occasionally) is using resources by playing a simple animation and the AsyncTask never gets a chance to finish. I want to play a simple looping animation (e.g. making a view rotate) on my menu screen and this makes the AsyncTask take about 5 times longer to finish which renders the background loading pointless. How can I avoid situations where my background data never finishes loading or has such a low priority it takes a long time? I can't seem to find a way to increase the priority of an AsyncTask.

  • Stretch ListBox Items hit area to full width if the ListBox?

    - by Nicholas
I've looked around for an answer on this, but the potential duplicates are more concerned with presentation than interaction. I have a basic list box, and each item's content is a simple string. The ListBox itself is stretched to fill it's grid container, but each ListBoxItem's hitarea does not mirror the ListBox width. It looks as if the hitarea (pointer contact area) for each item is only the width of the text content. How do I make this stretch all the way across, regardless of the text size. I've set HorizontalContentAlignment to Stretch, but this doesn't solve my problem. My only other guess is that the content is actually stretching, but the background is invisible and so not capturing the mouse pointer. <ListBox Grid.Row="1" x:Name="ProjectsListBox" DisplayMemberPath="Name" ItemsSource="{Binding Path=Projects}" SelectedItem="{Binding Path=SelectedProject}" HorizontalContentAlignment="Stretch"/> The XAML is pretty straight forward on this. If I mouse over the text in one of the items, then the entire width of the item becomes active. I guess I just need to know how to create an interactive background that is invisible.

  • Can you override just part of a control template in silverlight

    - by mattmanser
Is it possible to change or modify a specific part of a control template without having to recreate the entire control template of the control in the xaml? For example, I was trying to get rid of the border of a textbox, so I could throw together a basic search box with rounded corners (example xaml below). Setting the borderthickness to 0 works fine, until you mouse over the textbox and a pseudo border they added to the control flashes up. If I look at the controltemplate for the textbox, I can even see the visual state is named, but cannot think of how to disable it. Without overriding the control template of the TextBox, how would I stop the Visual State Manager firing the mouse over effect on the TextBox? <Border Background="White" CornerRadius="10" VerticalAlignment="Center" HorizontalAlignment="Center" BorderThickness="3" BorderBrush="#88000000"> <Grid VerticalAlignment="Center" HorizontalAlignment="Center" Width="200" Margin="5,0,0,0"> <Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <ColumnDefinition Width="16" /> <ColumnDefinition Width="*" /> </Grid.ColumnDefinitions> <Path Height="13" Width="14" Stretch="Fill" Stroke="#FF000000" StrokeThickness="2" Data="M9.5,5 C9.5,7.4852815 7.4852815,9.5 5,9.5 C2.5147185,9.5 0.5,7.4852815 0.5,5 C0.5,2.5147185 2.5147185,0.5 5,0.5 C7.4852815,0.5 9.5,2.5147185 9.5,5 z M8.5,8.4999971 L13.5,12.499997" /> <TextBox GotFocus="TextBox_GotFocus" Background="Transparent" Grid.Column="1" BorderThickness="0" Text="I am searchtext" Margin="5,0,5,0" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" /> </Grid> </Border>

  • IE and replaceWith not preserving radio button state

    - by copelco
Hello, I've run into an issue regarding replaceWith not maintaining the state of a moved radio button input. I've prepared a simple example illustrating this issue. This works in FF and Chrome, but not IE. Is there a way around this? Thanks! jsbin: http://jsbin.com/unola4/2 code: <html> <head> <script class="jsbin" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.3.2/jquery.min.js"></script> <title>IE replaceWith issue</title> <script type='text/javascript'> $(function(){ $('a').click(function(e) { e.preventDefault(); $('#temp').replaceWith($('#window').children()); }); }); </script> </head> <body> <a href='#'>run replaceWith</a> <p>Select a radio button and then click "run replaceWith". • Performing an action on Parent/Child elements independently.

    - by Matt Weldon
I have HTML similar to the following in my page <div id="someDiv"> <img src="foo.gif" class="someImg" /> </div> The wrapper div is set up such that when it is clicked, it's background-color changes using the following jQuery code. $("div").click(function(event){ $(this).css("background-color", "blue"); }); I also have some jQuery associated with my img that will do some other function (for the sake of argument I am going to display and alert box) like so: $("img[class=someImg]").click(function(event){ alert("Image clicked"); }); The issue I have come across is that when I click on the img, the event associated with the div is also triggered. I'm pretty sure that this is due to the way that jQuery (or indeed JavaScript) is handling the two DOM elements - clicking the img would require you to also technically click the div, thus triggering both events. Two questions then really: Is my understanding of the DOM/JavaScript flawed in some way or is this actually how things are occurring? Are there any jQuery methods that would allow me to perform actions on a child element without invoking those associated with its parent?

  • How to pass javascript/jQuery settings from page to page in rails?

    - by aronchick
When doing javascript manipulation of what's visible, how does one pass that from page to page (ideally in Rails)? For example, let's say I have the following simple jQuery code: <% link_to "Next Page", report_path %> <div class="clickable-div" style="background-color:#FFFFFF;"></div> <script> $('.clickable-div').click(function () { var color = $(this).css("background-color", "#000000"); }); </script> If it's not clear, the code is just supposed to change the color of the div based on whether or not it has been clicked. Regardless, there's also a link on the page that allows someone to go to the reporting page. What's a way to pass the state of the div to the action call? EDIT It seems unnecessary to do it in a session - am I wrong? This is just something from one page to the next, I couldn't care less anywhere else on the site. EDIT 2 To confirm, Rails needs to have access to the action that occurred in Javascript on the previous page.

  • PNG composition using GD and PHP

    - by Dominic
I am trying to take a rectangular png and add depth using GD by duplicating the background and moving it down 1 pixel and right 1 pixel. I am trying to preserve a transparent background as well. I am having a bunch of trouble with preserving the transparency. Any help would be greatly appreciated. • Accelerometer stops delivering samples when the screen is off on Droid/Nexus One even with a WakeLoc

    - by William
I have some code that extends a service and records onSensorChanged(SensorEvent event) accelerometer sensor readings on Android. I would like to be able to record these sensor readings even when the device is off (I'm careful with battery life and it's made obvious when it's running). While the screen is on the logging works fine on a 2.0.1 Motorola Droid and a 2.1 Nexus One. However, when the phone goes to sleep (by pushing the power button) the screen turns off and the onSensorChanged events stop being delivered (verified by using a Log.e message every N times onSensorChanged gets called). The service acquires a wakeLock to ensure that it keeps running in the background; but, it doesn't seem to have any effect. I've tried all the various PowerManager. wake locks but none of them seem to matter. _WakeLock = _PowerManager.newWakeLock(PowerManager.PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK, "My Tag"); _WakeLock.acquire(); There have been conflicting reports about whether or not you can actually get data from the sensors while the screen is off... anyone have any experience with this on a more modern version of Android (Eclair) and hardware? This seems to indicate that it was working in Cupcake: http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/msg/a616773b12c2d9e5 Thanks! PS: The exact same code works as intended in 1.5 on a G1. The logging continues when the screen turns off, when the application is in the background, etc.

The paragraph text is not overwritten, the div is not moved... tested it in FF and IE, also checked the DOM via Firebug: strange thing is that the new values are written to the nodes, but they are displayed in bold, and the old values are still there. WTF? I guess I'm missing something fundamental here.

  • Isotope.js help: Changing item image after sorting

    - by user3643081
This is a general question on how to go about building a project I have in mind, and the best way to set off on the right foot. I am fairly new to JS, please be gentle. I want to use isotope.js (or a similar script) to display a page with multiple items (about 30 different plants found in a garden) and the ability to sort them by seasons of the year + "what is most beautiful now" + and "view all" (a total of 6 categories) . On load, or when sorted by either "what is beautiful now" or "view all", I need each item to reflect the image of the current season we are in. When sorted by season, I need those "current" images to switch over to a designated seasonal image of that plant. Therefore, each sortable item will ultimately have 4 different versions with 4 different images in the background ready to surface when plants are sorted. (perhaps 5 if it makes more sense to have a "current" version besides the 4 seasonal versions.) My question: what approach can I take to achieve this effect in a manageable way? Can isotope apply a class to items sorted? Assuming it can: Should each item have 4 inline images, each with a css class, that I then control by using display:inline; and display:none; properties from my stylesheets? (I worry that this approach would significantly increase load times) Would it make more sense to create a blank dummy div who's background I control similarly to the example above -relying mostly on CSS. Or is there some other way involving JS I am overlooking? Any help would be appreciated. Examples of what you suggest would be immensely helpful.

  • Granting administrator privileges to an application launched at startup without UAC prompt?

    - by iKenndac
Background I've written a small C#/.NET 4.0 application that syncs various settings from a game installed in Program Files to and from other copies of the same game on different machines (think Chrome bookmark sync, but for this game). The sync itself is a relatively simple affair, dealing with files stored inside the game's Program Files folder. On my machine, this works fine without having to elevate my application through UAC. Windows 7 makes the game use Program Files virtualisation and my application works fine with that. However, on a lot of tester's machines, I'm getting reports that the application either can't work with the files and in come cases can't even see the game's folder! Having the user right-click and "Run as Administrator" solves the problem in every case. So, we just set the application's manifest to require admin privileges, right? That's fine (although not ideal) for when the user manually invokes the application or the sync process because they'll be interacting with the application and ready to accept a UAC request. However, one of the features of my application is a "Sync Automatically" option, which allows the user to "set and forget" the application. With this set, the application puts itself into the registry at HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run to be run at startup and sits in the system tray syncing the settings in the background as needed. Obviously, I need to be smarter here. Presenting a UAC prompt as soon as the user logs in to their account or at random intervals afterwards isn't the way forwards. So, my question! What's the best way to approach a situation where I'd need to run an application at startup that needs administrator privileges? Is there a way to have the user authorise an installation that causes the system to automatically run the application with the correct privileges without a prompt at startup/login?

    I have the following code: CSS part: <style type="text/css"> .menu { width:200px; } .menu ul { list-style-image:none; list-style-type:none; } .menu li { margin:2px; } .menu A { height:25px; width:170px; background:url(./images/button-51.png); padding:2px 5px ; } .menu A:link { height:25px; width:170px; background:url(./images/button-51.png); padding:2px 5px ; } </style> HTML part: Everything work fine, but when I add 'DOCTYPE' element in the beginning of the HTML document: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> the width of 'a' element is not taken into account. Question 1: Why? Question 2: How to fix that? Thanks a lot!

  • jQuery UI Calendar displays too large, would like the demo size???

    - by Phill Pafford
So I downloaded a custom themed UI for jQuery and added the calendar control to my sight (Example: link text). In the example it shows/displays the size I would like but on my webpage it's about twice the size. why??? I do have a ton of other CSS but I don't have control over the look and feel of the page (Can't touch current CSS, MEH!!). Is there a way to get the demo look on my site? I think this is the code that jQuery UI has that might be complicating things /* Component containers ----------------------------------*/ .ui-widget { font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 1.1em; } .ui-widget input, .ui-widget select, .ui-widget textarea, .ui-widget button { font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 1em; } .ui-widget-content { border: 1px solid #B9C4CE; background: #ffffff url(../images/ui-bg_flat_75_ffffff_40x100.png) 50% 50% repeat-x; color: #616161; } .ui-widget-content a { color: #616161; } .ui-widget-header { border: 1px solid #467AA7; background: #467AA7 url(../images/ui-bg_highlight-soft_75_467AA7_1x100.png) 50% 50% repeat-x; color: #fff; font-weight: bold; } .ui-widget-header a { color: #fff; } It's part of the Custom UI CSS

  • Search and highlight in html with multiple keywords as a single string

    - by Qiusheng
In JavaScript, by given a html string with tags like: This string has different fonts. <b>This</b> <i>string</i> <span style="background-color: rgb(212, 239, 181);">has</span> <b>different</b> <i>fonts</i>. When user searches for a search term with multiple words like "different fonts". How can I add highlighting to make the html string look like: <b>This</b> <i>string</i> <span style="background-color: rgb(212, 239, 181);">has</span> <span class="highlight"> <b>different</b> <i>fonts</i> </span>. Please note that the search term is treated as a single string as if the words are in a quote, so I cannot search and highlight each word individually.
