  • Natting trafic from a tunnel to internet

    I'm trying to set up a GRE tunnel between a linux box and a router (LAN), and I'm having a few problems which seem to depend to my iptables configuration.   • Will GTK's pango and cairo work well in Coca and MFC applications.

    I'm writing a GUI program and decided to go native on all platforms. But for all the stuff i need to draw myself i would like to use the same drawing routines because font and unicode handling is so difficult and complex. Do you see any negative points in useing Pango/Cairo. Well on MacOSX i havent succeded installing Pango/Cairo yet. Looks like a bad Omen.

  • So do programming languages get updated regularly like everyday applications or are they just x.0 re

    I was wondering if programming languages and frameworks get updated in small increments or are they just x.0 releases? And if they do how do you keep up on all the changes in every update? I am specifically interested in Objective-C and Cocoa and CocoaTouch. I'm learning from books and online PDF's etc, but often they are at best a few years old. I just would like to know if there have been any changes etc. that should concern me and even if not, inevitably there will be, so where can I look out for them?

I have given the other requirements below: Runs in any windows platform Must have GUI libraries to create windows/primitive controls The output .exe should also be very small, which negates the use of the .NET Framework.   • Remote Desktop Services In A Virtual VMWare Environment

    I have a quick question regarding Microsoft Remote Desktop Services in a virtualized environment using VMWare. This environment will actually be hosted in a large data center with in a cloud that is offered. This particular data center has the ability to establish high speed point to point connections with customers via metro-ethernet who are hosted in the cloud. The result is that customers can actually host their corporate domain in the data center's cloud. Put the merits of such a configuration aside for the time being. Believe me when I say that the cloud is stable and had enough hardware behind it to rival a dedicated cabinet. My question has to do with RDS in a virtual environment, which would amount to virtual desktops hosted on a virtual server. I've read that this works without issue using Hyper-V and VMWare. But before I take the plunge I wanted to get some feedback from the community.

Now I'm told that I have to download Java Platform Micro Edition Software Development Kit 3.0 So, should I download this? And once I download and install this in Linux, what do I have to install for Netbeans so I can create a Mobile Application? I'm fairly new to this environment so please any advice is welcome! :)

    i need to secure two different sites in apache. One of them should only be a proxy for a different server which is running on port 8069.   • Making GUI applications on Linux/Windows. What languages/tools to use?

    My student group and I are trying to continue working on a project we worked on this semester over the summer to become a professional, deployable app. We originally did it in Adobe AIR but it seems now that the computers this program will be running on will be very slow, maybe 600mhz and 128-256mb ram so flash just isn't going to cut it. It is basically a health diagnosis application that we will be shipping out to impoverished countries. Now comes the real question. We are wondering what language to rebuild our application in. It has to have a good gui builder associated with it, like adobe flex/air gui builder or visual studio's gui builder but the application should run on linux primarily, and if it can run on windows thats just a plus. We are all students too without really any outside help so whatever we decide to do this in there must be ample documentation available when we hit problems. Some things we have considered so far are using python and glade or c# and monodevelop, but again we really are not experts on any of this which is why I am asking for help as I would rather spend the time now choosing the right tools instead of wasting time down the line when we hit a roadblock.   • Simulating mouse clicks on Mac OS X does not work for some applications.

    I'm writing an application for Mac OS X 10.6 and later in C++. One part of the application needs to simulate mouse movement and mouse clicks. I do this currently by posting CGEvent objects using CGEventPost(kCGHIDEventTap, event);. This works, for the most part - I can simulate mouse movement and clicks just fine, but it seems to fail in some areas. For example: In Mozilla Firefox and Safari, I can click on all the menus, but cannot click on a link within a website. When I try, the link is highlighted, but the browser never follows the link. However, I can right-click on a link, select "open link in new tab", and everything works as expected. Solved - creating the mouse event using CGEventCreateMouseEvent(...) makes the event work within web browser. I can click on the "Dashboard" icon to brink up the dashboard, but I cannot click on the "i" button on any of the dashboard widgets. Similarly, clicking on any of the search results from the spotlight search widget doesn't work either. This inconsistency is along application boundaries. What might be the cause?

    Hi guys, I am currently writing a web application intended for US users that asks them to input their ZIP code and I just found out about the ZIP+4 code. Since I am not from the US and getting a user's correct ZIP code is important, I have no idea which format I should use. Could anyone (preferably from the US) please clarify what's the deal with the +4 digits and how important are they ? Is it safe to use only the plain 5-digit ZIP ? Thank you in advance !

  • Should I be building GUI applications on Windows using Perl & Tk?

    I have a bunch of related Perl scripts that I would like to put together in one convenient place. So I was thinking of building a GUI and incorporating the scripts. I'm using Strawberry Perl on Windows XP and have just installed Tk from cpan about fifteen minutes ago. Before I go for it, I want some sound advice either for or against it. My other option is to translate the Perl scripts into VB and use Visual Studio 2008, but that might be too much hassle for an outcome that might end up all the same had I just stuck with Perl & Tk. I haven't looked yet, but maybe there is a module for Visual Studio that would allow me to invoke Perl scripts? The main requirements are: It must be able to communicate with MySQL It must be able to fetch & parse XML files from the internet It must be transportable, scalable, and sustainable What direction would you take?

    We are hosting a set of websites on VM Cloud. These sites were previously on a couple of dedicated servers but to enhance performance, we transferred them onto a Cloud environment. The Cloud has SSD storage but they are now saying that we have very high IOPS and are goign to degrade us if we do not do anything soon.   • Do you use enums in your data applications and how?

    My practice shows that a general enterprise application has a lot of entities which's nature corresponds to an elementary enumeration. For example We may have an Order entity which may have such fields as "OrderType", "OrderStatus", "Currency", etc. referencing corresponding Entities which are nothing more than just a textual name bound to a key to be referenced. Using enums would look very natural here. But entities have to be defined in application code at design-time, am I right? While in we need to be able to CRUD enum value variants at runtime and use enums in server-side SQL queries (like stored procedures and views). What are you practices and thoughts on this subject? I am particularly interested in C#4, linq and T-SQL.
