• use yum behind a proxy on CentOS 5.6

  I have a CentOS VM running in Virtualbox on a Windows 7 host (all 64-bit). I have configured the proxy in the System menu and have added the proxy=http://my.proxy.com:12345 line to my /etc/yum.conf file. I am able to connect to the internet from a browser, and I can update packages form the update manager and install them from the package manager. However, I cannot use yum for anything. When I attempt to use yum (install, update, upgrade, or anything else), It attempts to connect to the mirrors, does nothing, then after a minute or so, quits. Does anyone know how to configure yum to work behind a proxy?

• both IPV4 and IPV6 at the same time over DSL connection?

  Let me describe my situation: while I connect computer with the wire, I've got an IPV6 address automatically, there's a "Wired connection" tab in network manager, and I can access an website that support IPV6 (google,facebook,twitter...)with a hosts file, or use the proxy like google.com.sixxs.org But if I want to access the whole internet, I have to create a DSL connection with username and password that ISP gave me. BUT after I change my connection into this DSL connection, I cannot access website over IPV6, even there's the site's ipv6 address in /etc/hosts, then I realize that I lose my IPV6 connection, because the ping6 says connect: Network is unreachable. the problem is, there's no IPV6 tab or options about IPV6 in the configure of DSL connection. It feels like I can only use one connection at the same time, but the DSL doesn't support IPV6 and the wired connection doesn't support IPV4(I mean, there's no way to input the password the ISP gave me) maybe make somebody uncomfortable, but when I work in MS windows, there's no such problem, (maybe just feel like) I can access V4 and V6 at the same time. So how to solve with this? thanks a lot. I'm in 11.10 + gnome3

• recent unreliable wireless connection on 10.04 and 10.10

  Recently, my internet connection over wireless has become unreliable, on both a Dell laptop running Ubuntu 10.04 as well as my Desktop running Ubuntu 10.10 . The problem does not seem to occur on a laptop running Windows Vista. The problem does not seem to occur on my Openmoko Freerunner ( running Android 1.5 ), though I hardly ever use this device to connect over WLAN, so the problem may have just slipped by. This problem does not seem to appear when I boot into Ubuntu 9.10 from a live CD ( more precisely, I was able to ping fu-berlin.de for an hour without any packet loss ). Under Ubuntu 10.10, I am experiencing about 33% packet loss. On my main Ubuntu Desktop, I have tried the following wireless devices: a Longshine PCI card ( an old device with an RTL8180L chip ) a D-Link DWL-510 PCI card ( this device threw warnings in dmesg ) a USB device from MSI ( US54EX ). Usually my wireless network shows up in the network manager with a normal signal strength, even when the connection speed is slow ( which happens often ) or the connection gets reset ( asking me to click connect to re-authenticate my wireless connection ). I have observed this problem with a Netgear KWGR614 Router ( with the manufacturers firmware ), as well as with a TP-LINK TL-WR741ND router running OpenWrt. Taking a look at my routers logs, I find many instances of the following line: Tuesday,04 Jan 2011 03:53:01 [TCP SYN Flood][Deny access policy matched, dropping packet] I know that the Netgear router is susceptible to denial of service attacks, as I have previously been able to disrupt its operation by putting an nmap scan into a while loop. I use WEP on the Netgear router and WPA on the TP-LINK to encrypt the wireless connections. Is it possible that someone is jamming my signal ?

• Remote Desktop over SSH SOCKS proxy to bypass firewall

  Hi folks, I'm trying to connect to a Windows server from my Mac using RDC2.1 for Mac. The problem is the server I need to connect to is guarded by the evil dragon - IP-based access control on a completely separate network. I have an IP I can get in on, but it's at my office (i.e. a completely separate network). Because that network isn't set up for VPN, I've set up a SOCKS proxy through an SSH tunnel (which is all working fine). (SSH proxy) Me (on my Mac) ----------> Office Linux box ----> Windows server (home network) (office network) (other network) From my Linux server in my office (the SSH server) I can telnet to port 3389 on the Windows server, no problem. But from my Mac I can't get so much as a squeak out of it. Any ideas?

• Remote Desktop fails after VPN connection.

  The remote computer is connected with Remote Desktop. When the remote computer is connected to VPN the Remote Destop freezes. It is not possible to connect to the remote computer again via Remote Desktop. What can be done to connect to this remote computer after it establishes a VPN connection? The only thing that comes to my mind is to install a second NIC and configure Remote Desktop to accept connection from this NIC while VPN is working from the other... What do you suggest?

  I'm trying to connect to my home server from my mac, but struggle with typing the password, which contains a plus sign. I have a norwegian keyboard layout, and when I log in from windows (via wmware), I get a norwegian keyboard at the logon screen, but when I connect directly from the mac, I get a english keyboard layout, which makes it impossible to type my password... Why does it give me a different layout for the mac? How can I type a plus sign? The key that should give me a plus sign if the keyboard was english, is the key that contains the ´ and `, and using this button doesn't give me anything in the login prompt... regards, -Vegar

• Connecting my iPhone to iTunes causes my Acer laptop to crash

  Hello I have an Acer Travelmate 8200 laptop and whenever I connect my Iphone to it, it crashes with the BSOD(Blue Screen Of Death). I have figured out that if I delete all the pictures in my phone I can get it to connect but that is not a ideal long term solution. I also read that it may be a conflict with the built in web-cam I have but I've upgraded the driver and I still get the crashing problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated! • Is it possible to add an existing Azure VM to an Azure Virtual Network?

  Didn't think this was directly related to programming, so thought Superuser would be better than Stack Overflow.... Is it possible to add an existing Azure VM to an Azure Virtual Network if you didn't add it to the virtual network at the time of creation? I can't see an option to change which Virtual Network the VM is connected to. Do you just have to do it at the time you create the VM, and if you don't do it then you will need to re-create the VM and delete the existing one? Example of the scenario: No VM's or Virtual Networks exist I create a VM (VM1), there is no virtual network so it isn't added to one Later I create a Virtual Network in Azure (Network1) It is possible to create another VM (VM2) and connect it to the Virtual Network (Network1), but can I connect VM1 to Network1 or must I delete VM1 and re-create it to get it connected to Network1?

• Delphi Client-Server Application using Firebird 2.5 error

  I have got a lengthy question to ask. First of all Im still very new when it comes to Delphi programming and my experience has beem mostly developing small single user database applications using ADO and an Access database. I need to take the transition now to a client server application and this is where the problem starts. I decided to use Firebird 2.5 embeded as my database, as it is open source, and it is can be used with the interbase components in Delphi and that multiple clients can access the database simultanously. So I followed the interbase tutorial in Delphi. I managed to connect the client to the server and see the data in the example (While both are running on my pc), but when i tried to move the client to another pc, keeping the server on mine and running it to see if I can connect to the server it gave me the following error. Exception EIdSocketError in module clientDemo.exe at 0029DCAC. Socket Error # 10061 Connection refused. I understand that this might be because the host is defined as localhost in the client. But here is my first question. In the TSQLConncetion you can set die hostname under Driver-Hostname. The thing I want to know is how do you do this at run time, as I cannot get the property when I try and make an edit box to allow the user to enter the value and then set it via code like for example: SQLConncetion1.Driver.Hostname := edtHost.text; The thing is there is not such property to set, so how do you set the hostname at run time? Im using Delphi XE2 There is still a lot of questions to come especially when it comes to deployment, but I will take this piece by piece and I appreciate the advice.

• How can I make a vpn network login the default behavior for logging into Windows?

  To login to the machine, I have to login to our domain. When I am at work, the unauthenticated wireless permits access to the domain. However, the internet is not available until I connect via the vpn. From home, I have to connect via the vpn first, then I can login to the domain. I have successfully setup a network logon with the vpn (following the directions found here). And for the most part it works correctly. (There is an issue with logout/login I haven't figured out just yet). As I currently have to Switch User and select the Network Login button, I'd like to know if it is possible to have the network login the default behavior when logging into the system. This is mostly a usability issue than anything else.

• Windows 7 Wireless Network Adapter Stopped Working

  I have a Windows 7 Ultimate machine where the wireless adapter all of a sudden started having trouble connecting to wireless networks. Whenever I go to a new place and try to connect to a wireless network, it says that the DNS server is not responding, and tells me to go unplug the router and try again. After several locations in a row telling me this, I began to realize something was wrong with my adapter, not the routers. I am no longer asked to identify the security level for any new networks (Work, Home, or Public) like I used to be (it defaults to Public now - with the park bench icon). Often, resetting the router doesn't even work. Running the Windows 7 troubleshooter doesn't give me anything better than the advice to reset the router. However, the adapter will still connect to the wireless network at my main office without any problems. Does anyone know why a wireless network adapter can get so finicky so suddenly? Thanks!

  Hi All, I bought a brand new Dell Studio 1558 just last week. It has windows 7 home premium 64-bit installed on it. My friend who is occupying the adjacent room has a laptop with windows XP. Both of us are connecting to the same wireless router of the hotel. My friend is able to connect to the wireless network without any trouble, but when I try to connect, I get the error "DNS service isn't responding". I get this error when I run the troubleshooting option. I met two more people in the same hotel with win XP laptop and they too dont have any problem. I have gone to possibly all the forums and website but I haven't been able to fix this error :(. I have done all the basic troubleshooting but I have no luck yet. Pls help. • My internet drops and will only reconnect if I troubleshoot it or restart my computer.

  My internet loses its connection and at the same time, and my speaker seems broken if that happens and my mouse will not be smooth as it was before it happens. It already happened before and I didnt mind it. But now, it's happening literally all the time. After startup, my connection seems okay but after some few minutes, even without me doing something, my laptop will just lose its connection. It says that it is not connected and connections are available, but if I check if there are connections where I can connect it shows nothing. Even if, there is actually a wi-fi connection where my phone and other laptops connect. They dont seem to have problem with it. Just my laptop. After that happens, I usually restart my laptop but I discovered that troubleshooting it would somehow repair the problem, but not all the time. It says that restarting my wireless adapter do the job. Are there any long term fix? I mean that could last long or totally erase the problem? I have Atheros AR5B97 Wireless Network Adapter and Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter, both enabled. On the services, I have Wired AutoConfig and WLAN AutoConfig on Automatic. • Intermittent ethernet connectivity

  I am facing a weird problem. I am connecting to my dsl modem via ethernet. After booting, sometimes Ubuntu 10.10 does not detect the eth0 card properly or does not connect to the modem. I have made the following observations: My modem is fully on. All indicators are on except ethernet, which is blinking continuously. My network indicator applet informs me that I am connected to modem, but I am not able to browse as it has not established connection with modem. I need to power off and on (restart) the modem several times OR disconnect/connect (via network applet) several times, before the system can establish a connection with the modem. Once it establishes the connection, the ethernet LED (on modem) stops blinking and glows continuously. However, I do not see this problem every time I reboot or start my computer. 3/5 time, it connects to the modem in a single attempt. Friends, I am not able to understand root cause of this problem. Plus I do not know what kind of logs should be attached. If you want any logs please give me command to run, and I will paste the result for you.   Hello, How can I configure stunnel to accpet SSL connections, and connect then to an SSL port on a different server? Here is my setup: Our ISP's server, "Mail Server", supports smtp/imap over SSL. (Not starttls. Just over ssl.) But, I have a bunch of client machines that will only trust a specific, internal, root certificate. Thus, they can not connect to "Mail Server". For these client machines, I'd like to make a dedicated "Mail Tunnel" host that uses stunnel to listen with an in-house signed SSL certificate, and just forward data to "Mail Server" using a 2nd SSL connection. Can this be done? What would be the specific steps for Ubuntu Server 10.10? (I'm not too familiar with persistent service configuration.) Thank you

• Is there an easy way to configure an Ubuntu system to function as a proxy/file server from behind an NAT?

  Sorry for the long question, but the situation/desire is quite complex. Here is my setup: I have a laptop which I carry around everywhere and I have a desktop sitting at home, connected to the internet through a router using NAT. My objective is to create a connection from my laptop to my desktop that can allow me to (in order of priority): Use the desktop as a proxy server Access files on the desktop remotely Control said desktop from the laptop using VNC or similar. Now here is the scene. I have already looked up and tried several ways to achieve the above goals. Teamviewer - I used it and didn't like it. This is not an option. SSH - This seems ideal, I have figured a way to use this for both proxy and file sharing. However, I am currently unable to connect it due to the NAT. I have a separate thread trying to get that to work here. VPN - I've figured out how to use this method for proxy, but not file sharing. However this faces the same problem as the above: I can't get it to connect through the NAT. Does anyone have any other solutions for what I want? Otherwise, if there are solutions to connecting through the NAT, please tell me (in the other thread). Thanks

  I have the following setup: modem + router - - - - -Ubuntu box on master mode.........wireless devises. Ubuntu machine connects to Internet on wired network. I've dhcp3-server, masquerading, and wireless card with master mode on Ubuntu box. The issue is Ubuntu connects to the router on NAT. The wireless devises connect to the Ubuntu box on a NAT too (though different). SO my wireless devises are behind two NAT networks. The solution I am looking for is Ubuntu should forward dhcp requests to the modem+router, and Ubuntu should act as a switch or a bridge that allows wireless devises to connect to the wired network. So the modem+router should act a main router.

• Self-hosted browser-based remote desktop script?

  I need a self-hosted browser based remote desktop script that will connect me from any PC to my work PC. I need to either host this script within my own dedicated hosting or on my work PC. The PC that I need to remote into is always the one PC (Win7) and the IP never changes, and I have access to the Router/Firewall within. I have tried many remote desktop services and applications - LogMeIn, Team Viewer, (Ultra/Tight) VNC, GoToMyPC and iTeleport Connect and even Windows Remote Desktop - and the web services (or ports) are blocked at whatever free wi-fi/hotel/coffee shop I am at. Note that I will need to be able to access this from any PC, so I won't be able to install any applications (or use any portable software) - hence my thinking that it will need to be browser based on a standard (not blocked) port. If I can set up a web based remote desktop application - really a homebrew LogMeIn - then I should solve my problem. What is the best option here?

I've tried clearing cache on firefox and it didn't help, so I'm thinking there's something wrong with the way HAProxy parses through the Firefox request headers.

• Is it possible to tunnel ICMP over TCP?

  I don't want to tunnel TCP over ICMP (as ptunnel does), I want to go the other way around. I'm in the situation where I have TCP (HTTP) connectivity to a machine but an internal firewall over which I have no control is swallowing pings. The monitoring software I'm using appears to determine connectivity by attempting to send a ping before it tries to just connect to the web service on the target machine. It's failing this ping test and giving up. I believe if I could fool my monitoring software into thinking pings were getting through, it would then connect to the web service and be on its merry way. Anyone know how I can do this? I have SSH and root access on the destination machine.

• Static IP Address on Ubuntu 12.04 Virtual Machine

  I've setup a VM running Ubuntu 12.04 specifically for local web development and am having some problems ensuring it has a static IP address. A static IP address is important as I'm using the IP address in my hosts file to assign a .local suffix to addresses used both in browser and to connect to the correct database on the VM. Currently, every time I connect to a new network or my VM is assigned a new IP address I need to reconfigure my whole environment which is becoming quite a pain. It also probably doesn't help that the default-lease-time on the Ubuntu VM is set to 1800 by default. At the moment I'm using VMWare Fusion and the Network Adapter is enabled and set to "Autodetect" under Bridged Networking. I've tried to set a static IP address within the dhcpd.conf using the code below: host ubuntu { hardware ethernet 00:50:56:35:0f:f1; fixed-address: 192.168.100.100; } The fixed-address that I've used is also outside the range specified in the subnet block (which in this case is 192.168.100.128 to 192.168.100.254). I've tried adding and removing the network adapter and restarting my Mac after each time to no avail.
