  • How to configure Amazon Security Groups to achieve multi-tier architecture?

    What is the preferred way to configure Amazon Security Groups to achieve a multi-tier architecture? Each of my instances has its own Security Group, which I only want to use for rules specific to an instance. I'd like to keep any rules which apply to multiple instances in a separate Security Group, which can then be assigned to instance Security Groups as necessary. As an example, I've setup a group called "admin", which allows administrative access from my IP. I added the "admin" group as the source to each of my instance security groups. However, I still can't access the instances from my IP without adding the rules directly to the instance's group. Am I missing something? Although it seems a multi-tier security architecture should be possible, it doesn't seem to be working.

  • How do I mount a CIFS share via FSTAB and give full RW to Guest

    I want to create a Public folder that has full RW access. The problem with my configuration is that Windows users have no issues as guests (they can RW and Delete), my Ubuntu client can't do the same. We can only write and read, but not create or delete.     I'm a bit of a beginner with Unix systems, but I'm running Cygwin on my Windows Server, and I am trying to figure out something related to extended ACLs. I have a directory to which I set the following ACLs: Administrator@MyServer ~ $ setfacl -m d:u:Someuser:r-- somedir Administrator@MyServer ~ $ getfacl somedir/ # file: somedir/ # owner: Administrator # group: None user::rwx group::r-x mask:rwx other:r-x default:user::rwx default:user:Someuser:r-- default:group::r-x default:mask:rwx default:other:r-x As you can see mose of the default ACLs have the x bit. Then when I create a fine in it, it doesn't inherit the ACLs it is supposed to: Administrator@MyServer ~ $ touch somedir/somefile Administrator@MyServer ~ $ getfacl somedir/somefile # file: somedir/somefile # owner: Administrator # group: None user::rw- user:Someuser:r-- group::r-- mask:rwx other:r-- It's basically missing the x bit everywhere.   • Preferred apache permissions for www files with several authors

    I can't for the life of me figure out how to design my permissions scheme for my apache files. My requirements seem pretty simple: Apache should have standard permissions of RX for Directories and R for files Web authors should have RWX for Directories and RW for files Don't want to give any access to "other" Want new files/folders to inherit the proper permissions Here are the schemes I've tried 570 for directories and 460 for files Owner: Apache Group: Webdev The problem here is that new files created by users int the Webdev group are owned by user:Webdev and Apache can't read them. If Apache were in the group Webdev then it would also have the wrong permissions (ie it would have Write permissions to files) 750 for directories and 640 for files Owner: Webdev Group: Apache (Webdev is a member of Apache) The problem here is that there is only one webdev account and I have multiple people who need access to contribute. In theory this would work with only one developer if Webdev were also a member of the Apache group. Any ideas?

    Some years/versions ago I found a script that took the Directory group/permissions of the current folder for NEW files Sub-Folders Currently when I import Photographs into 12.04 using Shotwell, I have to use terminal to issue: chgrp photography *.JPG. This enables other ubuntu members of 'photography' group to add these files to their version of Shotwell. I find modifying the Folder Properties/Permissions will NOT set the Group on 'Apply Permissions to Enclosed Files'

  • How do I allow a non-default user to use serial device ttyUSB0?

    I have an Ubuntu 11.10 system with 2 users: The first was created during the installation The second instead was created after. It belongs to the sudoers group. Now the problem is that when the second tries to use a device ttyUSB0 the following error is returned: "Could not open serial port /dev/ttyUSB0" I was able to fix it by using: sudo chown :second_user /dev/ttyUSB0 However when I disconnect the device and reconnect it the problem comes back. Is there a way to allow different users to access the devices? I suppose I have to add the user to a specific group. Currently the owner is root and the group is dialout. However I'm not sure about the group and I don't know how to add the user. Thanks!

So if the user goes to http://localhost/a-repository-name he has to be in the group a-repository-name to be able to open the url. For some reason I can't get this code working and apache returns: Authorization of user **** to access /a-repository-name failed, reason: user is not part of the 'require'ed group(s). I guess it's not matching against the proper variable at Require group $1. Is this the right way to be done or I'm missing something?

  • Will a standard CMS on a shared web hosting account work for this?

    I have two questions concerning CMS's that I need answered if possible: I need to create a site with a Database. This site will in due time have lots of traffic and many users if things go as planned. Is it better to have the CMS on a shared web hosting account or is it better to have a dedicated server for this? The site I want to create needs to be able to create groups where each group has its own admin. The admin of the group decides the content that each member can view/access. The information of one group can be shared to other groups as well. This means that only the information content is shared but not the group's member data. Should I use a single or multiple databases for this problem? Is this something that can be done using standard CMS systems out there. or should I try to build one myself?

Doing functional testing of view model, I can mock service proxy to ensure methods are called on the proxy, but how can I ensure that callback method is called as well?     I made a module prototype for building complex timer schedules in python. The classe prototypes permit to have Timer objects, each with their waiting times, Repeat objects that group Timer and other Repeat objects, and a Schedule class, just for holding a whole construction or Timers and Repeat instances. The construction can be as complex as needed and needs to be flexible. Each of these three classes has a .run() method, permitting to go through the whole schedule. Whatever the Class, the .run() method either runs a timer, a repeat group for a certain number of iterations, or a schedule. Is this polymorphism-oriented approach sound or silly? What are other appropriate approaches I should consider to build such a versatile utility that permits to put all building blocks together in as complex a way as desired with simplicity? Thanks!     Ok the thing is that I am using asp.net mvc with linq to sql. I have a scenario where there are two tables group and features with many to many relationship with the third table groupfeatures. I have drag and drop all three table in the dbml file.     I got exception when I tried to delete one NSManageObject at the event of tableView:commitEditingStyle:forRowAtIndexPath:. This is the exception message: uncaught exception 'NSObjectInaccessibleException', reason: 'The NSManagedObject with ID:0x3d07a30 <x-coredata://0D2CC9CB-042B-496D-B3FE-5F1ED64EAB97/paymentType/p2> has been invalidated.' I tried to get entity object first and then to delete it. The entity looks OK but still the exception was at delete: NSManagedObject *entityToDelete = [fetchedResultsController objectAtIndexPath:indexPath]; [mangedObjectContext deleteObject:entityToDelete]; // Exception again. I am not sure if the entity object retrieved from the fetchedResultsController(NSFetchedResultsController type) cannot be deleted? If so, is there any other way to get the entity object for deleting? I found that in the Apple's Core Data Tutorial for iPhone with events example, there is on NSArray to hold event entity objects. I am not sure if that's necessory to use NSArray to hold my local entity objects and then use it for deleting?

  • Product Catalog Schema design

    I'm building a proof of concept schema for a product catalog to possibly replace a very aging and crufty one we use. In our business, we sell both physical materials and services (one time and reoccurring charges). The current catalog schema has each distinct category broken out into individual tables, while this is nicely normalized and performs well, it is fairly difficult to extend. Adding a new attribute to a particular product involves changing the table schema and backpopulating old data. An idea I've been toying with has been something along the line of a base set of entity tables in 3rd normal form, these will contain the facts that are common among ALL products. Then, I'd like to build an Attribute-Entity-Value schema that allows each entity type to be extended in a flexible way using just data and no schema changes. Finally, I'd like to denormalize this data model into materialized views for each individual entity type. This views are what the application would access. We also have many tables that contain business rules and compatibility rules. These would join against the base entity tables instead of the views. My big concerns here are: Performance - Attribute-Entity-Value schemas are flexible, but typically perform poorly, should I be concerned? More Performance - Denormalizing using materialized views may have some risks, I'm not positive on this yet. Complexity - While this schema is flexible and maintainable using just data, I worry that the complexity of the design might make future schema changes difficult. For those who have designed product catalogs for large scale enterprises, am I going down the totally wrong path? Is there any good best practice schema design reading available for product catalogs?

  • Persisting complex data between postbacks in ASP.NET MVC

    I'm developing an ASP.NET MVC 2 application that connects to some services to do data retrieval and update. The services require that I provide the original entity along with the updated entity when updating data. This is so it can do change tracking and optimistic concurrency. The services cannot be changed. My problem is that I need to somehow store the original entity between postbacks. In WebForms, I would have used ViewState, but from what I have read, that is out for MVC. The original values do not have to be tamper proof as the services treat them as untrusted. The entities would be (max) 1k and it is an intranet app. The options I have come up are: Session - Ruled out - Store the entity in the Session, but I don't like this idea as there are no plans to share session between URL - Ruled out - Data is too big HiddenField - Store the serialized entity in a hidden field, perhaps with encryption/encoding HiddenVersion - The entities have a (SQL) version field on them, which I could put into a hidden field. Then on a save I get "original" entity from the services and compare the versions, doing my own optimistic concurrency. Cookies - Like 3 or 4, but using a cookie instead of a hidden field I'm leaning towards option 4, although 3 would be simpler. Are these valid options or am I going down the wrong track? Is there a better way of doing this?

  • Vector of pointers to base class, odd behaviour calling virtual functions

    I have the following code #include <iostream> #include <vector> class Entity { public: virtual void func() = 0; }; class Monster : public Entity { public: void func(); }; void Monster::func() { std::cout << "I AM A MONSTER" << std::endl; } class Buddha : public Entity { public: void func(); }; void Buddha::func() { std::cout << "OHMM" << std::endl; } int main() { const int num = 5; // How many of each to make std::vector<Entity*> t; for(int i = 0; i < num; i++) { Monster m; Entity * e; e = &m; t.push_back(e); } for(int i = 0; i < num; i++) { Buddha b; Entity * e; e = &b; t.push_back(e); } for(int i = 0; i < t.size(); i++) { t[i]->func(); } return 0; } However, when I run it, instead of each class printing out its own message, they all print the "Buddha" message. I want each object to print its own message: Monsters print the monster message, Buddhas print the Buddha message. What have I done wrong?

  • Invalid argument supplied for foreach() using adldap

    I am using adldap http://adldap.sourceforge.net/ And I am passing the session from page to page, and checking to make sure the username within the session is a member of a certain member group, for this example, it is the STAFF group. <?php ini_set('display_errors',1); error_reporting(E_ALL); require_once('/web/ee_web/include/adLDAP.php'); $adldap = new adLDAP(); session_start(); $group = "STAFF"; //$authUser = $adldap->authenticate($username, $password); $result=$adldap->user_groups($_SESSION['user_session']); foreach($result as $key=>$value) { switch($value) { case $group: print '<h3>'.$group.'</h3>'; break; default: print '<h3>Did not find specific value: '.$value.'</h3>'; } if($value == $group) { print 'for loop broke'; break; } } ?> It gives me the error: Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() on line 15, which is this line of code: foreach($result as $key=$value) { When I uncomment the code $authUser = $adldap-authenticate($username, $password); and enter in the appropriate username and password, it works fine, but I shouldn't have to, since the session is valid, I just want to see if the username stored within the valid_session is apart of the STAFF group. Why would it be giving me that problem?

  • autocommit and @Transactional and Cascading with spring, jpa and hibernate

    Hi, what I would like to accomplish is the following: have autocommit enabled so per default all queries get commited if there is a @Transactional on a method, it overrides the autocommit and encloses all queries into a single transaction, thus overriding the autocommit if there is a @Transactional method that calls other @Transactional annotated methods, the outer most annotation should override the inner annotaions and create a larger transaction, thus annotations also override eachother I am currently still learning about spring-orm and couldn't find documentation about this and don't have a test project for this yet. So my questions are: What is the default behaviour of transactions in spring? If the default differs from my requirement, is there a way to configure my desired behaviour? Or is there a totally different best practice for transactions? --EDIT-- I have the following test-setup: @javax.persistence.Entity public class Entity { @Id @GeneratedValue private Integer id; private String name; public Integer getId() { return id; } public void setId(Integer id) { this.id = id; } public String getName() { return name; } public void setName(String name) { this.name = name; } } @Repository public class Dao { @PersistenceContext private EntityManager em; public void insert(Entity ent) { em.persist(ent); } @SuppressWarnings("unchecked") public List<Entity> selectAll() { List<Entity> ents = em.createQuery("select e from " + Entity.class.getName() + " e").getResultList(); return ents; } } If I have it like this, even with autocommit enabled in hibernate, the insert method does nothing. I have to add @Transactional to the insert or the method calling insert for it to work... Is there a way to make @Transactional completely optional?

  • C# 4.0: casting dynamic to static

    This is an offshoot question that's related to another I asked here. I'm splitting it off because it's really a sub-question: I'm having difficulties casting an object of type dynamic to another (known) static type. I have an ironPython script that is doing this: import clr clr.AddReference("System") from System import * def GetBclUri(): return Uri("http://google.com") note that it's simply newing up a BCL System.Uri type and returning it. So I know the static type of the returned object. now over in C# land, I'm newing up the script hosting stuff and calling this getter to return the Uri object: dynamic uri = scriptEngine.GetBclUri(); System.Uri u = uri as System.Uri; // casts the dynamic to static fine Works no problem. I now can use the strongly typed Uri object as if it was originally instantiated statically. however.... Now I want to define my own C# class that will be newed up in dynamic-land just like I did with the Uri. My simple C# class: namespace Entity { public class TestPy // stupid simple test class of my own { public string DoSomething(string something) { return something; } } } Now in Python, new up an object of this type and return it: sys.path.append(r'C:..path here...') clr.AddReferenceToFile("entity.dll") import Entity.TestPy def GetTest(): return Entity.TestPy(); // the C# class then in C# call the getter: dynamic test = scriptEngine.GetTest(); Entity.TestPy t = test as Entity.TestPy; // t==null!!! here, the cast does not work. Note that the 'test' object (dynamic) is valid--I can call the DoSomething()--it just won't cast to the known static type string s = test.DoSomething("asdf"); // dynamic object works fine so I'm perplexed. the BCL type System.Uri will cast from a dynamic type to the correct static one, but my own type won't. There's obviously something I'm not getting about this...

But now if I try with my Group By I get the following Error: [Semantical Error] line 0, col 614 near '(k.logdate,'%Y-%m-%d')': Error: Cannot group by undefined identification variable. Anyone knows about this?
