  • Why does my Windows 8 Pro Hyper-V guest have no internet?

    Trying to get this working on my Windows 8 Pro machine. I created an External Switch Assigned the newly available adapter to a Guest machine with Win 2008 os. My host has internet connection. Host can ping Guest, Guest cannot ping Host. Guest has no internet connection. Pasting the IP of both host and guest.   • Is there a way to make IETab always open a site in Internet Explorer?

    Hello, IETab offers a setting that lets you define sites that should always be opened using IE's rendering engine. This is great and I use it all the time. There are a few sites, though, with which I encounter problems when I access them this way (needless to say that these have some IE-only features, otherwise I would simply use Firefox without IETab). So my question is: is there a way to make IETab (or any other extension that does the same thing) automatically open a specific list of sites in IE? To be clear: I want a way to specify a list of sites that will open an external IE process from Firefox, when clicking on those links or bookmarks from within Firefox.

  • Firefox and internet explorer not reponding, but chrome works fine.

    I have been using multiple browsers successfully for years, but now I seem to have run in to a problem. When I run firefox or IE, they appear to start up, but the mouse pointer just permanently turns into an eggtimer, and I can do nothing else with them. Task manager shows them as "not responding". I then have to use task manager to "end task". I tried re-installing firefox, but that made no difference. Google chrome works fine. Any ideas what could be happening?

  • How does the internet protocol handle network card numbers?

    I know that data packets sent over the internet carry the source and destination IP address, so that the protocol can route the data to the correct destination and keep track of the source address of the packet. But what about the network card address? As far as I know, each network card has a unique identification number. Is this also transmitted with a TCP/IP packet? And when a packet is received at its destination, how is the IP address mapped to a network card number? In other words. On the sender part: does the sender store the sender network card number in the IP packets that it is sending? On the receiver part: which component maps the IP address to the receiver's network card number when a packet is received? E.g., in a home network, does the modem / router map the destination IP address of an incoming packet to a network card number and deliver the packet directly to that network card? A link to documentation on these topics would be of great help.

    Before flagging as duplicate please note that other similar posts do not have the same criteria below. Thanks Im looking for an app that will let me automatically sync a usb drive with a folder on my home system over the internet. I would like to roam from computer to computer and run this syncing app from the usb drive. Im looking for the same functionally as DropBox but without the 2gb restriction and without the need to fully install. Two Way sync between a usb drive and pc over the net Utilizes the full size of the usb drive not limited by an online storage size. (I dont need online backup or versioning) Allows the removal of the usb drive, Plugging it in to another computer will resume its sync. While the drive is connected the app should run silently keeping changed files in sync. (I dont want to run a manual process other than simply starting the app) Must be able to run as a portable app from the usb drive but can fully install on home pc. Window 7 Support is preferable. Please let me know if such and awesome app exists. TIA!

  • Print over the internet from a remote linux session locally (on a Windows 7 machine) to the shared printers?

    I'm trying to use a linux virtual machine as a file server for windows clients. I have successfully implemented remote file sharing (samba+ssh) with which I am able to print locally with a little program that I made for this purpose (jetforms style)... but I would like to hear about a somewhat more direct approach. How can I attach the printers to the server, so that I can for example open a file on the remote session and in the print dialogbox I would see my local printers (on the machine from which I have established a remote session)? I guess there should be some kind of putty tunneling, but dont know how. I have a windows 7 machine locally; there is a CentOS 6 VM over the internet. It has ssh, cups, and samba. I have found a question which asks the opposite: there is a windows based server to connect form linux but that windows has a domain, mine is just a simple windows workstation that is behind NAT and has a dynamic IP. That question is: Print from Linux to Windows networked printer.

    I am having trouble configuring my NAS. I have a DSL router with WIFI (192.168.1.1) in my flatmates room. In my room I have a server with two NICS: 1) wlan0 (192.168.1.2) that connects to the DSL router via wireless 2) em1 (192.168.0.1) that connects to the NAS (192.168.0.20) with a crossover cable. I have Fedora 17 and I have enable packet forwarding. My IP configuration is as follows: WLAN0 inet 192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.0.255 EM1 inet 192.168.1.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255 My routing table looks like: Destination Gateway G enmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface 0.0.0.0 192.168.1.1 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 wlan0 192.168.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 em1 192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 wlan0 I have enable a static route in the DSL server: Status Network Destination Subnet Mask Interface Gateway Remove Edit Active 192.168.0.0 255.255.255.0 LAN 192.168.1.2 From my server I can ping the DSL router and the NAS. From the NAS I can ping both NICS of the server. However the NAS is unable to ping the DSL router or any address in the Internet. Any idea of what is wrong. Thank you in advance

  • jsf and eclipse setup. Lib in Explorer is different than lib in tomcat. How come?

    Hi, I am starter in JSF2.0, and I have a question related to Eclipse (I am using Helios). 1)I create a Dynamic Project 2)I add JSF project facet. 3)I choose JSF user library (I have created it using MyFaces) All ok so far. I notice though that in the Project Explorer in WebContent/WEB-INF/lib the lib directory is empty instead of having MyFaces jars. The application works fine though. I looked into this and the jars are actually being placed in the corresponding lib directory of the app deployed under wtpwebapps of the Tomcat instance of eclipse in the .pluggins directory. Ok, it works but IMHO it is incorrect to have the Project Explorer inconsistent with the directories actually deployed. I.e. lib is shown empty in Project Explorer but with jars under wtpwebapps. Am I wrong to dislike this inconsistency? Is this how it should work or am I doing something wrong in the way I am setting my project? Thanks!

  • How can I force all internet traffic over a PPTP VPN but still allow local lan access?

    I have a server running Linux Mint 12 that I want to keep connected to a PPTP VPN all the time. The VPN server is pretty reliable, but it drops on occasion so I just want to make it so all internet activity is disabled if the VPN connection is broken. I'd also like to figure out a way to restart it automatically, but that's not as big of an issue since this happens pretty rarely. I also want to always be able to connect to the box from my lan, regardless of whether the VPN is up or not.     Since March, our friends across the pond in Europe get to decide which browser they want to install with their Windows OS. Today we thought we would take a look at the ballot choices, some are well known, and others you may not have heard of. Windows users in European countries should start seeing the so called “Browser Ballot Screen” after installing the Windows Update KB976002 (link below). The browser ballot offers a dozen different browsers, including some you’ve likely never heard of.  They each have some unique features, and are all free, and here we take a quick look at each of them. Internet Explorer 8 Internet Explorer is the world’s most used web browser, as it’s bundled with Windows. It also includes several unique features, including Accelerators that make it easy to search or find a map of a location, and InPrivate filtering to directly control what sites can get personal information.  Additionally, it offers great integration with Windows Touch and the new taskbar in Windows 7. IE 8 runs on Windows XP and newer, and is bundled with Windows 7. Mozilla Firefox 3.6 Firefox is the most popular browser other than Internet Explorer.  It is the modern descendant of Netscape, and is loved by web developers for its adherence to web standards, openness, and expandability.  It offers thousands of Add-ons and themes to let you customize it to fit your preferences. The most recent version has added Personas, which are quick, lightweight themes to let you personalize the look your browser. Google Chrome 4 Google Chrome has gained an impressive amount of market share during its short time in the market. It offers a minimalistic interface and fast speeds with intensive web applications. With version 4 you can add a growing number of extensions, personalize it with a variety of stylish themes, and automatically translate foreign websites into your own language. Opera 10.50 Although Opera has been around for over a decade, relatively few users have used it. With the new 10.50 release, Opera has many unique features packed in a sleek UI. It integrates great with Aero and the Windows 7 taskbar, and lets you preview the contents of your websites in the tab bar. Maxthon 2.5 Maxthon is a unique browser that builds on Internet Explorer to bring more features with IE’s rendering. Formerly known as MyIE2, Maxthon was popular for bringing tabbed browsing with IE rendering during the days of IE 6.  Today Maxthon supports a wide range of plugins and skins, so you can customize it however you want. It includes mouse gestures, a web accelerator to speed up pokey internet connections, a content blocker to remove unwanted content from sites, an online account to backup your favorites, and a nice download manager. Avant Browser Another nice browser based on Internet Explorer, Avant brings a wide variety of features in a nice brushed-metal interface. It includes an integrated AutoFill for forms, mouse gestures, customizable skins, and privacy protection features. It also includes a Flash blocker that will only load flash in webpages when you select them. You can also integrate Avant with an online account to store your bookmarks, feeds, settings and passwords online. Sleipnir Sleipnir is a customizable browser meant for advance users that is quite popular in Japan. It’s built on the Trident engine and virtually every aspect of is customizable unlike Internet Explorer.   FlashPeak SlimBrowser SlimBrowser from FlashPeak incorporates a lot of features like Popup Killer, Auto Login, site filtering and more. It’s based on Internet Explorer but offers a lot more customizable options out of the box.   K-meleon This basic browser is light on system resources and based on the Gecko engine. It’s been in development for years on SourceForge, and if you like to tweak virtually any aspect of your browser, this might be a good choice for you.   GreenBrowser GreenBrowser is based on Internet Explorer and is available in several languages.   • Blackberry how to display message in app if device got no internet connection?

    Hello I've just started with programming for the Blackberry device. I'm using version 5 of the API. I'm building a very simple application which is just a browserfield. So far it's all working great. I can display my browserfield with the content I need. The problem I'm having now is if the device doesn't have an active internet connection I get the ugly "Error requesting content for" message. I would need to someone display my own message if the device doesn't have an active connection. Something like "You need to have an active internet connection to use this application" with an Exit button which closes the app. I've tried to find this for hours but no luck. Hopefully it's something relatively easy so I can get help here.     I have been using Windows for a while, and with it there is a feature when you want to upload a photo (for example) to a website, you click on the "Choose File" in Chrome to upload a photo, a "File Explorer" opens, and instead of selecting a file from the hard drive you can paste a URL into the "File Explorer" and press open and it will download the file from the web to your temporary files, and use it to be uploaded.   • Making document storage in Sharepoint a breeze (leave the Web UI behind)

    Hey everyone, I know many of us regularly use Sharepoint for document storage in order to make documents available to several people, have it version controlled, etc.  Doing this through the Web UI can be a real headache, especially when you have multiple documents you want to modify or upload, or when IE isn’t your default browser.  Luckily we can access the Sharepoint library like a regular network drive if we like. Open Sharepoint in Internet Explorer (other browsers don’t support the Open with Explorer functionality), navigate to wherever your documents are stored, choose the Library tab, and then click Open with Explorer. This will open the document storage in Explorer and you can interact with the documents just like they were on any other network drive J  This makes uploading large numbers of documents or directory structures super easy (a simple copy-paste), and modifying your files nice and easy. As an added bonus, you can drag and drop that location from the address bar in Explorer to the Favorites menu so that it’s always easily accessible and you can leave the Sharepoint Web UI behind completely for modifying your documents.  Just click on the new favorite to go straight to your documents.   You can even map this folder location as a network drive if you want to have it show up as another drive (e.g N: drive).   • My python program always brings down my internet connection after several hours running, how do I debug and fix this problem?

    I'm writing a python script checking/monitoring several server/websites status(response time and similar stuff), it's a GUI program and I use separate thread to check different server/website, and the basic structure of each thread is using an infinite while loop to request that site every random time period(15 to 30 seconds), once there's changes in website/server each thread will start a new thread to do a thorough check(requesting more pages and similar stuff). The problem is, my internet connection always got blocked/jammed/messed up after several hours running of this script, the situation is, from my script side I got urlopen error timed out each time it's requesting a page, and from my FireFox browser side I cannot open any site. But the weird thing is, the moment I close my script my Internet connection got back on immediately which means now I can surf any site through my browser, so it must be the script causing all the problem. I've checked the program carefully and even use del to delete any connection once it's used, still get the same problem. I only use urllib2, urllib, mechanize to do network requests. Anybody knows why such thing happens? How do I debug this problem? Is there a tool or something to check my network status once such situation occurs? It's really bugging me for a while... By the way I'm behind a VPN, does it have something to do with this problem? Although I don't think so because my network always get back on once the script closed, and the VPN connection never drops(as it appears) during the whole process.
