• Free video capture programs for windows 7?

  I want to record my screen to make a tutorial. I tried to use camStudio but it goes all weird after a couple mins. Like I am recording then all of a sudden a popup from windows says that all the memory for colors is being used and it will stop using areo. Then a few mins later my screen starts going nuts and it starts flashing green. So I am not sure what to record and I can't afford to buy Camtasia.

  When using the standard Windows remote desktop client in Full Screen to connect to a large remote desktop, the result is usually that the remote desktop is resized to a smaller size matching the local display. Are there any RDP clients that in Full Screen instead leave the remote desktop at its original size and pan this larger area when the mouse reaches the border edges of the local display? Thanks Mike

• Changed login for a user with encrypted home, now I can't login

  I changed a user's login by doing this: $ usermod old_login -l new_login I also wanted to move his home to reflect his new username, but it wouldn't let me, so I just rebooted. But now after I login, the screen blinks and I'm redirected back to the login screen. And that's what happens when you cannot access your home, that's why I think it has something to do with his home being encrypted. How do I fix this? I'm on a Ubuntu 12 Virtualbox VM.

• Keyboard shortcut to minimize Remote Desktop

  Is there a way, using the keyboard, to switch from a maximized (full screen) Remote Desktop Connection back to the main computer? I have about 4 Remote Desktop connections that I am switching between and it would be nice to not have to go to the mouse each time I want to switch. I know I can press Ctrl+Alt+Break and that normalizes the remote desktop screen. That is close, but I would like a way to just minimize it (so I don't have to normalize-switch-maximize each time I want to switch screens)

• Toshiba Satellite L630 broken after bios update

  I have Toshiba Satellite L630, which has been broken. It had no more OS installed in it. All the disk partition were cleared into one single empty unformatted partition. So I begin to install windows XP on this laptop. Apparently, win XP's driver support for this laptop is very limited. So I have to find almost all important driver (display, sound, etherned, wireless etc) on the net and install it manually one by one. So I start googling, and I got some driver download page from several Toshiba's website (the global version, the europe, asia, etc). Pretty hard to find the exact drivers, but I managed to find pretty good drivers. It's all works quite fine, although still have a few glitches. But everything turned into a big mess when I downloaded the "BIOS Update", which is also listed on Toshiba's official driver directory site. When I installed it, it show a big red warning sign telling me not to do anything while flashing the BIOS . I follow that instruction prudently. The process was finished, and that update BIOS software (it is InsydeH2O BIOS) told me that the BIOS has been succesfully updated and the computer need to restart. So I restart the computer. This is where the problem appear. I can no longer boot to my laptop. The booting process seems to be able to enter windows for a moment (it shows the windows XP loading screen), and then suddenly it just got that hateful blue screen and then instantiy restarts the machine. It goes on a loop. Boot bios - enter XP - blue screen - restart. I can't even try to reinstall my win XP again. Evertime the machine tries to boot to win XP CD, it got the same blue screen as I gets when loading from HDD. Many google search results said that I should open the laptop cover and try to clear CMOS with some kind of jumper or something. Or to unplug/re-plug the CMOS battery. Do I really need to do that? Is there anyway I could do without disassembling my laptop? I read some tricks about booting from USB device but I can't get the exat tools that I need to do that thing...   I know I can change the height of the Windows 7 Start Menu so that includes more or fewer recently used apps, etc. But I have a netbook with a tiny screen that I plug into a decent sized LCD most of the time at home. Is there a way to get Win7 to use a taller Start menu with more items when I'm using the LCD and a shorter Start menu with fewer items when using the netbook's built in screen? (I'm a programmer so capable of technical solutions if there's no ready-made solution.)

• Fedora 13 post security update boot problem

  Hello. About a month ago I installed a security update that had new Kernek 2.6.34.x from 2.6.33.x), this is when the problem occurred for the first time. After the install my computer would not boot at all, black screen without any visible hard drive activity (I gave it good 30 minutes on black screen, before took actions)... I poped in installation DVD and went in rescue mode to change back the boot option to old kernel (was just a guess where the problem was). After restart computer loaded just file, took a long time for it to start because of SELinux targeted policy relabel is required. Relabeling could take very long time depending on file size. I assumed that the update got messed up somehow and continued working with modified boot option. Couple of days ago, there was another kernel update. I installed it and same problem as before. This rules out corrupted update theory... Black screen right after 'BIOS' screen before OS gets loaded. I had to rescue system again... Below is copy of my grub.conf file. • Bad resolution from Displayport converter on third of three screens

  I am currently using three screens at the same time with my ATI 5770 & an active Displayport converter. The thing is that the third screen (the one using the active Displayport converter) is showing terrible resolution compared to my other two screens. The third screen is a Samsung Syncmaster P23. Two of my screens have a max resolution of 1920x1080, meanwhile the third on is only capable of 1600x1200. Do any of you know a solution to this problem?

• Flickering issue in external monitor when used with Acer Aspire One D260 netbook (Intel GMA 3150)

  I recently purchased a Acer netbook, Aspire One D260. It runs flawlessly. Yesterday I bought a Samsung 23" TFT with a native resolution of 1920x1080. According to the information found in the internet and my local computer dealer, the Intel chipset can handle the native resolution of the monitor. However, this is only partly the case. I use the VGA cable to connect, the monitor instantly switches to the native resolution and now the problem: Occasionally, especially the first 2 hours after booting up, I have a flickering all over the screen, sometimes the entire screen is shaking and spinning around like crazy. I figured out that lowering the resolution avoids the flicker but this helps only for some time. I can rule out that it's the monitor's problem since I found no issues with another notebook. Right now, I have no problems with the netbook, for about 30 minutes I didn't experience any issues... But I don't know for how long, it occurs without warning :-) I'm worried that if I would bring the netbook back to the dealer and explain my problem, after testing it on an external screen in the local shop, everything works just fine... And I won't get helped with the problem because I can't prove it. (I'm currently in Thailand and over here, customer service is nothing like back home in Germany) What can I do? Is this a driver related issue? (I installed the latest GPU driver) Is it because of the VGA cable? (But why does it work sometimes without any problems and with no issues on the other notebook) I monitored the GPU/CPU temperature, nothing changes really over time.. Can it simply be a faulty GPU and is a replacement justifiable? I'm really stressed now because for the time I'm writing, the flickering didn't occur... but for sure, soon or later it will happen again.. I forgot to mention, the problem also happens if the netbook runs on battery, unplugged. So the only hardware that is plugged is the TFT screen. ...........and here it comes again, flickering has just begun. NEED HELP!   How can the Windows + S keyboard shortcut be disabled on Windows 8.1? I had Win+S mapped to take a screen capture in Windows 8 using Evernote. (not using Windows built-in PrintScr to capture the entire screen): After the update, Win+S always brings up the Search panel: A solution using RegEdit would be fine. • Computer doesn't start up apart from lights/noise

  One of my computers doesn't boot up or at least nothing appears on my screen (not even the bios). It still makes some noise and the lights stay on, but not any beeping like I have heard computer make when start up fails. Before this happened my screen would occasionally have a strange image appear than crash (usually around startup). It would also sometimes just freeze without the image appearing. Any suggestions for how I can attempt to identify the problem?

• Ubuntu 12, limit the resolution to 640x480

  How can I set and limit the resolution in Ubuntu 12 to 640x480 There's not much in the xorg.conf file anymore, so I'm guessing this is no longer the place to do it? I can't do it using the GUI either because it doesn't show me the 640x480 option. While setting the resolution the computer is connected to a normal screen but later it will be connected to a screen that only supports 640x480 and doesn't report its supported modes to the computer. It would be great if I could somehow make the browser window refresh without manually switching to the browser. • Arrow keys don't work in htop on OS X in Terminal

  Not sure when it happened, or what I did (if anything), but my arrow keys don't work in htop anymore to scroll around. You should be able to press up and down to scroll up and down the process list, but they don't work. Some keys tend to be the equivalent of 'go back' or something. If I'm on the settings screen, left, up and down all go back to the main screen. htop seems to be the only affected program.
