  • How to stop NAT dropping idle connections?

    I have a TCP connection that can be idle for many hours. The traffic is flowing from the server to the client only. One might say it's kind of push notification. My home router, however, tends to drop the connection silently after 20 minutes (the value of /proc/sys/net/netfilter/nf_conntrack_tcp_timeout_established). The server detects the loss once it tries to send anything (I assume it receives RST from the router itself). As client never sends anything, it never detects the loss. RFC 5382 "NAT Behavioral Requirements for TCP" states the following: A NAT can check if an endpoint for a session has crashed by sending a TCP keep-alive packet and receiving a TCP RST packet in response. It makes sense. It's much more effective than sending keep-alives by the host itself (as only NAT knows its own timeout). And probably not hard to implement. Is there any NAT solutions implementing this? It would be great if there was a way to enable this in iptables.

    I have a datagridview and it is bound to a stored procedure which returns a number of result columns. There is also a binding navigator with "Add New" button included. If I click "Add New" button, it creates a new row in datagridview automatically, and If I leave that new row by clicking a different row. datagridview invokes "commit" or something. so the question is How do I make datagridview not to commit adding a new row when I leave the cell?

  • programmatically updating iTunes track location

    I would like to modify the filesystem path for tracks on itunes programmatically, so that I can apply a string transformation to some of the tracks locations (which are now stored in a different places on the filesystem). I've tried using AppleScript to update the location property of the relevant tracks but I get an end-of-file error when calling "set mytrack's location to ..." I've seen various other hacks online that involve exporting the entire track db, modifying it in XML, and then reimporting it - but that seems to lose too much metadata (such as playlists).

    Hello, I am looking for a solution that allows me to deploy multiple load balanced Grails instances that have shared cache (EhCache Server ?) and sessions, is this possible ? I can't find any documentation on this (connecting to a common EhCache server or using Distributed EhCache, and sharing sessions (using EhCache too ?))... I'm looking for something that will work like multiple Rails instances with a common memcached and sessions/caches stored in the memcached... Can you help me ? Thank you !

  • Suggestions for library to hash passwords in JAVA

    What JAVA library should I be using to Hash passwords for storage in a database? I was hoping to just take the plain text password, add a random salt, then store the salt and the hashed password in the database. Then when a user wanted to log in, I could just take their submitted password, add the random salt from their account information, hash it and see if it equates to the stored hash password with their account information.

  • Can I automate the finding of -l parameter I use when linking based on header files (gcc)?

    Normally when linking against a static library, I have to specify a library directory and the name of a libX.so (or its symbolic link) as -lX flag for linking [and its directory with -L flag]. Can I automate this based on my header files (in c/c++) only? Or maybe it is not a good idea? Is there a software for locating the -L and -l parameters automatically? Is some table stored somewhere on the system about this on popular linux systems or even cygwin?

  • Growing a Linux software RAID5 array

    On my home file server, I've got a 1.5TB software RAID5 array, built from four 500gb Western Digital drives. I've got a fifth drive that I usually run as a hot spare (but have out of the array at the moment), but if I can I'd like to add that to the array and grow it to 2TB since I'm running out of space. I Googled for guidance, but there seem to be a lot of differing opinions out there (many of them probably now out-of-date) as to whether or not that is possible and/or smart. What's the right way to go about this, or should I start looking into building a new array with more space?     I have a Corsair R60 ssd disk which is a disk with both sata and usb connectors. But the usb thing seems to be a bit non-standard, or maybe its just my fedora linux. When I insert the disk using a usb cabel to a running Fedora 14 linux system, a device called /dev/sg3 is added but that is all. No new /dev/sd* device is created so I can't mount the disk. If I look at cat /proc/scsi/sg/device_strs I get ATA Hitachi HTS54321 FB2O HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T50N RP05 Seagate Desktop 0130 Corsair CSSD-R60GB2 So the disk is there. (The last entry) but my linux will for some reason not see it as a usb hard disk. When I insert other usb disks they work fine. It is only this specific disk which causes problems. I have tried on 3 different computers with the same result. A hint to the problem may be that if I add the disk to a windows system(With usb) the disk is called "A fixed disk" and not a portable disk as expected. The disk works fine with linux If i connect it with the sata cabel, but I would really like to have it working with usb too. (To mount it on computers without sata).

  • MultiOS "Jet Database" for C++/Qt?

    Hopefully I can articulate this well: I'm porting an application I made years ago from VB6 (I know, I know!) to C++/Qt. In my original application, one thing I liked was that I didn't need an actual SQL server running, I could just use MS Access .mdb files. I was wondering if something similar exists for Qt that will work on multiple OSes - a database stored in a file, pretty much, but that I can still run SQL queries with. Not sure if something like this exists or not, but any help appreciated, thanks!
