  • Sharepoint Designer Workflow with multiple tasks in sequence

    I have a multi-step Sharepoint workflow in task list A that starts when a new task is created in that list and creates a task in another list, B. When that task in list B is completed, I would like the workflow in list A to create another task in list C. I am using Sharepoint Designer 2007 to build all of this and at the moment I have this represented by multiple steps. So, step one is to create the task in the other list, and store its ID as a variable. Step 2 is conditional on a value in the task created by step one being marked complete, and it creates a task in the next list, and so on. However, when I run the workflow, it marks its status as complete as soon as the item in the first list is completed, and does not go on to create the task outlined in Step 2 of the workflow. I would like to know why the workflow is marking itself complete at the end of step one, and why the subsequent steps are not executed. Thanks in advance for your help.

    I have an application which uses two methods of an API. Both these methods throw more than five exceptions each. So, if I just add a throws declaration then it becomes a list of more than ten. (My method cannot handle any of the ten exceptions) I have read that throwing a long list of exceptions is a bad practice. Also throwing (the umbrella) Exception is a bad practice. So, what should I do? Add a try catch block, and log and exit in the catch block? (Current approach) Create a custom exception class, wrap every exception and throw the custom exception? Add a throws declaration for all exceptions? Throw Exception?

  • C#, WinForms: Which view type for periodically updated list?

    I'm having an application, that periodically polls a web service (about every 10 seconds). In my application logic I'm having a List<Message> holding the messages. All messages have an id, and might be received out of order. Therefore the class implements the Comparable Interface. What WinForm control would fit to be regurarly updated (with the items in order). I plan to hold the last 500 messages. Should I sort the list and then update the whole form? Or is data binding approriate (concerning performance)?

    We need to create a simple web service in ASP.NET that can be called from PHP or other languages. This in turn will be used to update records in a database for an item submission. The core part is fairly simple, we have a base set of fields for the object - first name, last name, birth date, city, etc. In addition however we need to accept a list of items associated with that object that can range from 0-n. Jan 1 2009, ABC May 1 2010, 123 Jun 30 2010, XXXXX What would be the best way to structure this so it can be easily passed to the ASP.NET web service and processed as a single call for the entire object? Ideally I'd like "largest stamp" but they're always in order so the shortcut is ok.     For my project, the role of the Lecturer (defined as a class) is to offer projects to students. Project itself is also a class. I have some global dictionaries, keyed by the unique numeric id's for lecturers and projects that map to objects. Thus for the "lecturers" dictionary (currently): lecturer[id] = Lecturer(lec_name, lec_id, max_students) I'm currently reading in a white-space delimited text file that has been generated from a database. I have no direct access to the database so I haven't much say on how the file is formatted. Here's a fictionalised snippet that shows how the text file is structured. Please pardon the cheesiness. 0001 001 "Miyamoto, S." "Even Newer Super Mario Bros" 0002 001 "Miyamoto, S." "Legend of Zelda: Skies of Hyrule" 0003 002 "Molyneux, P." "Project Milo" 0004 002 "Molyneux, P." "Fable III" 0005 003 "Blow, J." "Ponytail" The structure of each line is basically proj_id, lec_id, lec_name, proj_name. Now, I'm currently reading the relevant data into the relevant objects. Thus, proj_id is stored in class Project whereas lec_name is a class Lecturer object, et al. The Lecturer and Project classes are not currently related. However, as I read in each line from the text file, for that line, I wish to read in the project offered by the lecturer into the Lecturer class; I'm already reading the proj_id into the Project class. I'd like to create an object in Lecturer called offered_proj which should be a set or list of the projects offered by that lecturer. Thus whenever, for a line, I read in a new project under the same lec_id, offered_proj will be updated with that project. If I wanted to get display a list of projects offered by a lecturer I'd ideally just want to use print lecturers[lec_id].offered_proj. My Python isn't great and I'd appreciate it if someone could show me a way to do that. I'm not sure if it's better as a set or a list, as well. Update After the advice from Alex Martelli and Oddthinking I went back and made some changes and tried to print the results. Here's the code snippet: for line in csv_file: proj_id = int(line[0]) lec_id = int(line[1]) lec_name = line[2] proj_name = line[3] projects[proj_id] = Project(proj_id, proj_name) lecturers[lec_id] = Lecturer(lec_id, lec_name) if lec_id in lecturers.keys(): lecturers[lec_id].offered_proj.add(proj_id) print lec_id, lecturers[lec_id].offered_proj The print lecturers[lec_id].offered_proj line prints the following output: 001 set([0001]) 001 set([0002]) 002 set([0003]) 002 set([0004]) 003 set([0005]) It basically feels like the set is being over-written or somesuch. So if I try to print for a specific lecturer print lec_id, lecturers[001].offered_proj all I get is the last the proj_id that has been read in.

    Hi all: I'm having difficulties adding file of the same name in the same list and subsequently updating/changing/modifying the name of a SPFile. Basically, this is what I'm trying to do: string fileName = "something"; // obtained from a loop -- loop omitted here. SPFile file = folder.Files.Add(fileName, otherFile.OpenBinary()); The Add method will generate a runtime exception when it finds another file of the same name in the same list/folder. So I thought of changing the file name later in the process: string newGuid = Guid.NewGuid().ToString(); SPFile file = folder.Files.Add(newGuid, otherFile.OpenBinary()); // some other processing... afterwards, rename the file file.name = fileName; file.Item.Update(); A few minute of googling indicated I need to either move the file around, or update the name field by using ["Name"] instead. I was wondering are there any other better ways to get around this problem? Thanks.

  • Expected specifier-qualifier-list before ... only in classes in a certain folder

    Hi Classes in my iPhone project are organised within folders on the filesystem, these correspond to groups (for each folder) in xcode. My problem is that there seems to be a particular class which classes in a particular group/folder cannot make reference to; the compiler complains of "Expected specifier-qualifier-list...". This happens on any class within this group, and also when I create a new class within this group and try and import the offending class like so: #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> #import "MyClass.h" @interface TryingToImport : NSObject { MyClass *myClass; // Expected specifier-qualifier-list before 'MyClass' } Creating an identical class in any other group works OK. I understand this error message is usually due to cyclical import references, I have checked over and over and there don't seem to be any of these. I assume I have inadvertantly configured the offending group to be different to the others in some way but I can't figure out how. Help please!

    To keep some consistency, we use code generation for a lot of our object models, and one of the offshoots of that has been generating the .proto files for ProtocolBuffers via a separate generation module. At this point though, I'm stumped at how to implement the generation for when it happens upon a List<T> object. It looks like this is possible via contracts: [ProtoMember(1)] public List<SomeType> MyList {get; set;} but outside of that, I'm not sure how or if it's possible to do this only from creating the .proto file/using the VS custom tool. Any thoughts?

    I'm following Phil's great tutorial on model binding to a list. I use input names like this: book[5804].title book[5804].author book[1234].title book[1234].author This works well and the data gets back to the model just fine, populating a list of books. What I'm looking for is a way to get access in the model to the index that was used to send the books. I'd like to get that number, "5804." This is because the index is of semantic importance. If I can access it, it saves me from setting another property on the object (book ID). Is there a way to see, either on the FormCollection or on the model after UpdateModel is called, what the index was when it was sent up?

  • How can I await the first completed async task of a list in .Net?

    My input is a long list of files located on an Amazon S3 server. I'd like to download the metadata of the files, compute the hashes of the local files, and compare the metadata hash with the local files' hash. Currently, I use a loop to start all the metadata downloads asynchronously, then as each completes, compute MD5 on the local file if needed and compare. Ideally, I process the response as they arrive, not in order, and the MD5 is asynchronous but gets a chance to run.     I need to be able to display and edit a hierarchical list of tasks in a C# app. It can either be a Windows form app, or ASP.NET. Basically, I want similar behaviour to the way Microsoft Project handles tasks. The control would need to: 1) Maintain a list of items made up of several fields 2) Each item can have a number of children (at least 3 levels of nesting) 3) It needs to be very easy to change the parents/children of an item 4) It needs to be very easy to edit the fields (as fast as changing cells in Excel) 5) It needs to be very easy to reorder the items by dragging and dropping or cut and paste 6) If I can easily connect the control to a database, even better Before I go and create something manually, I'm wondering if there is something available already?
