• Can Windows Media Player create playlists based on folder structure?

  Over the years I've carefully molded my digital media collection into a series of folders that make it easy for me to find what I'm looking for. I recently discovered the awesomeness that is streaming video from Windows 7 Media Player to the PS3 so I can watch it on the big screen without all the hassle of hooking the computer up to the TV. The problem is, I totally lose my carefully crafted folder structure and all my videos become one giant mess again... not cool! As a temporary solution, I've created a few playlists for my favorites (Dexter Season 4, Dexter Season 5, Breaking Bad Season 1, etc.). This is a HUGE pain in the a$$. So, is there a way to get Windows Media Player (on Windows 7) to maintain some sort of folder structure based on the location of the actual video files? So if I have my videos sorted into folders by show and season, Media Player will pick that up and let me browse it in the same way. As an alternative answer, I'll accept suggestions for a program that can also stream to PS3 and has this "folder organization" feature.

• How to prevent an SSD from disappearing from BIOS

  I've only recently upgraded my old machine to a new one with a brand new 60gb SSD as my boot drive and a 1TB main drive. Paranoid about completely breaking my SSD, I read up on a lot of issues that I needed to watch out for, including making sure AHCI was turned on and trim enabled. PC has been working fine for a few weeks now, until today. My wife was watching some TV on the machine when it started to act strange and eventually blue screened. She rebooted and the boot mgr was missing. When I got home from work I checked the BIOS and the drive had disappeared. I panicked and looked up some possible fixes, and I discovered a large amount of people having problems with the drive firmware, especially on OCZ Vertex and Agility drives, and my drive is an Agility 3 drive. The problems included blue screens followed by missing drives, and a solution was to reset the CMOS and try again. This worked, and now everything seems to be working fine. My question is, is there any way to prevent this from happening? Am I missing a setting for my SSD? All of the posts I found were from early to mid-2011 nothing for the end of 2011 to 2012. So I am wondering if I've missed anything. EDIT: Checked my drives firmware and it is 2.15, which has had issues reported by users.

• AA doesn't work due to monitor?

  I have a monitor (with TV tuner - Philips 221T1SB), native resolution of 1920x1080, but there is an Overscan in Catalyst. It says from left to right '10%' and '0%', if i set it (all the way to the left) on 10%, i get screen with black borders (you know what i mean), but if i set it to 0%, i get a filled monitor. It does make sense, but why the hell is there such an option? I never had any AA issues before, but now, with this monitor, here they go. I can't find any solution, i have only one lead = overscan, or pretty much anything with the CCC settings. Yes, i almost forgot. After a bit of trying to configure the monitor with remote, i found there is a PC channel option, few other channels, and then a HDMI option. I have monitor through HDMI, but why i get black screen when i select the PC channel? That might be another problem. I tried almost everything. Please guys, give me a hand. I don't want jaggies! • Mod_pagespeed, Varnish and Apache cache issues after new code pushes

  I have a rather strange issue. In my environment we are running a load balanced cluster of 8 apache servers with a master-master MySQL backend. In front of apache we have Varnish in the cache layer. We have been running Apache mod_pagespeed for several weeks now and for the most part it has been working great. The issue arises when we do fresh code updates from Git, and and/all of the JS/CSS assets change. Basically the problem appears to be two fold. One, after the code push we generally take the opportunity to flush varnish, restart apache, and restart varnish. In doing this all of the mod_pagespeed combinied/minified files are cleared out ensuring that all of the new JS/CSS assets are fresh. The problem is, upon doing this the file names that mod_pagespeed creates change, but the old files (appear) to be still cached for many people client side leading to very unexpected results. However, if we do not restart apache, the changes to the files may or may not appear client side due to the cached minified assets. The simple solution is to disable mod_pagespeed, however I would rather not do that as it has made a fairly large impact in performance. I feel as if there must be a better way to deal with the inconsistencies in cache between the client and server to prevent having people to go to great lengths or perform a large number of page refreshes to see a working page. I can provide configuration snippets if anyone needs them. • Sudden "No Signal" in HDMI-DVI connection

  Yesterday I have connected external display Asus VW192C to my laptop Dell XPS 14-L421X via HDMI-to-DVI-D cable. And it worked perfectly fine from start. The day after, Asus screen went blank showing "No signal". Every time I connection/disconnection cable or power off/on the display it says "No signal". And I didn't change any system configurations meanwhile. To troubleshoot the problem, I have tried to connect laptop to TV (hdmi-to-hdmi) - it was fine. I've tried to connect a different laptop to the display via the same cable - worked fine as well. So its obviously something on system level, either Windows or graphics drivers. Also it seems that Windows still see the external display (I can move mouse pointer away from the main screen in Extended mode), but there's just no signal. Any ideas? What else to try? PS. My laptop has 2 graphics cards - GeForce 630M and Intel HD 4000 using NVidia Optimus technology. I have updated to latest Intel and NVidia drivers, still didn't help. PPS. Although I shouldn't have updated (from Intel support): "our Intel generic graphics drivers from the Intel website do not support using both Intel Graphics 4000 and NVidia GeForece GT630M". Nevertheless, it should not affect connectivity to additional display.

• How to change the MAC address in Win 8 to spoof a Roku Player through a WiFi splash page?

  My Linux laptop died yesterday and now I can't watch TV. Let me explain. I use a Roku Player to stream Netflix shows to my television; and a year or two ago, the Internet Service provided in my apartment complex added a Splash Page to get through the router and onto the net. After not too many days, I remembered that internet devices identify themselves with a MAC address. So I delved into the manpage of ifconfig and discovered that I could persuade my laptop to pretend to be the Roku Player, connect, click through the Splash Page, disconnect and change it back. This would allow the Roku to connect for about 24 hours, when I would have to do it again. But the laptop died yesterday during my smoke break. So during lunch, I ran to OfficeMax and got a new one. But I don't know where to begin looking for where to change the MAC address (assuming it's possible). I know I can try dual-boot, or a keychain OS, or possibly other things to resurrect my old method. But, is it possible to get Windows do it?

• Can I split one ethernet line coming out of my wall into multiple separate lines?

  Hi all and thanks in advance. I'll start with some background. I live in an apartment which provides internet service included in the rent. They use company called pavlov for the internet http://pavlovmedia.net/ wireless seems to be working fine but wired connection is at least %30 faster. Ethernet, cat5 outlet is built in the wall, and there is only 1 outlet in each room. I would like to take this 1 outlet coming out the wall and multiply it into 4 wires, for desktop, playstation, tv and laptop without loosing any internet bandwidth. i have absolutely no idea weather this line is coming from a switch or a router but i have been researching Ethernet splitter, routers, switches, hubs and haven't found a solid answer. what is the best solution for me? thank you once again! • Two video card on one Mobo

  I recently purchased a new HP Pavilion p6-2265eo. It was then that I realised that it has only one DVI and one HDMI output.. I will connect my TV with the HDMI. so I am letft with only one DVI output. I need to have two monitors. Please help. Should I purchase a new video card and install it? My knowledge is limited. The specifications of my comp says that there is 1 x PCI-E x16, 3 x PCI-E x1. 1) I suppose that the video card already present in my purchase is connected on the PCI-E x16. Am I right? I dont want to open my desktop right now and check it for myself as it can void the warrenty. so I need an experienced person to tell me that. 2) I have an old nvidia geforce 7200 gt. Is it possible for me to connect it to my left over PCI-E x1? I searched for PCI-E x1 on the net and as far as I can understand the slot is too small for my old nvidia geforce 7200 gt graphic card. 3) what are the options?   I'm trying to debug my first app on the device and got this error message, A valid provisioning profile for this executable was not found. I've gone thru the Apple manuals, checked SO and other sites but cannot work out what I've done wrong? This is what I've done so far. Got my provisioning profile. I check Organizer and it's there, plus it shows that it is installed on my iPhone (green button). My profile is in ~/library/MobileDevice/Provisioning Profiles My certificate is in Keychain Access In Xcode I have have the Project Info showing the Entitlements correctly. The Code Signing Identity matches what's in Keychain. I've set the Target Info to be the same as Project Info. Have I done something inconsistently?

  Can this be done? And if not, how far down towards Core Audio do I need to go (what method of recording should I be using instead)? I've noticed the behavior of AVAudioRecorder is to overwrite a file if it finds one at the path provided when you request that it record again, so I know that's not going to work. I'm also curious about file format restriction with this idea. Can you effectively resume an AAC or IMA4 encoding (the length of the files I want to record make WAV and probably even Apple Lossless prohibitive)? Thanks.

• UIView inside UIView with Shadow?

  Hi, I've been trying to figure out how to draw a shadow for an UIView that was added inside a UIView with addSubview. I searched online and read the docs, but the Apple docs simply draw new shapes as shown below. I want to use the Core Graphics to add a shadow to the UIView, but am unsure how to do this to a UIView directly. • Objective-C with some Objective-C++, calling a normal c++ method "referenced from" problem

  Hi, I made an Objective-C project for the iPhone. I had only one cpp class, the soundEngine taken from some Apple demo. Now I'm trying to merge OpenFeint which is coded in Objective-C++. As soon as I drop in the code without even referring to it from my code, when I hit Build, my Objective-C code cannot find the methods of the cpp file. All the class files compile, but in the linking stage it says something like: "_SoundEngine_SetDisabled", referenced from: someClass.o Note that it is adding an underscore in front of the methods when it's reporting these linking errors. P.S. I know that for OpenFeint first thing one should do is convert the files to .mm but if possible I don't want to go down that road at this stage of development. I was going to try create a wrapper Objective-C++ class for it. I read someone managed to do that.

  Hi SO I am using selectRowAtIndexPath to select a tableview in the same ViewController class, but this does not run the delegate methods, eg: tableView:didSelectRowAtIndexPath I would like these delegate methods to also be called. Is there another API call I can be using?   On the subject of associating your iPhone app with file types. In this informative question I learned that apps could be associated with custom URL protocols. That was almost one year ago and since then Apple introduced 'Document Support' which goes a step further and allows apps to associate with file types. There is a lot of talk in the documentation about how to set up your app to launch other appropriate apps when it encounters an unknown file type. This means the association doesn't work out of the box for any app, like the URL protocol registering did. This leads me to the question: have system apps like Safari or Mail implemented this system for choosing associated applications, or will they do nothing, as before?

  Hello everyone, I'm parsing a (not well formed) Apple Plist File with java. My Code looks like this: InputStream in = new FileInputStream( "foo" ); XMLInputFactory factory = XMLInputFactory.newInstance(); XMLEventReader parser = factory.createXMLEventReader( in ); while (parser.hasNext()){ XMLEvent event = parser.nextEvent(); //code to navigate the nodes } The parts I"m parsing are looking like this: <dict> <key>foo</key><integer>123</integer> <key>bar</key><string>Boom &amp; Shroom</string> </dict> My problem is now, that nodes containing a ampersand are not parsed like they should because the ampersand is representing a entity. What can i do to get the value of the node as a complete String, instead of broken parts? Thank you in advance.

• UISplitViewController programmtically without nib/xib, thank you.

  Hi, I usually create my projects without IB-stuff. The first thing I do is to strip off all references to xibs, outlets updated plist, etc and so forth. No problems, works great (in my world)! Now, I just installed 3.2 and tried to develop my first iPad app. Following same procedure as before, I created a UISplitView-based application project and stripped off all IB-stuff. Also, I followed the section in Apple's reference docs: "Creating a Split View Controller Programmatically", http://bit.ly/axgYAs, but nevertheless, the Master-view is never shown, only the Detail-view is (no matter what the orientation is). I really have tried to carefully look this through but I cannot understand what I have missed. Is there a working example of a UISplitViewController without the nibs floating around somewhere? I have googled but could not find any. Or do you know what I probably have missed? Regards, /Steve PS. Spare me the lesson why I should use the IB ;-) DS.

  hi. I guess this is kind of a idiotic question but i have tried setting onClicklistener on an ImageView and it has worked. But the problem is that the user cannot sense the click. I mean if some of u have worked on other mobile environs(like apple iphone) then wen we click on a Image in other environs then it gives an effect on the image so that the user can understand that the image has been clicked. I have tried setting alpha using "setalpha" method but it doesnt work. Though the same thing is working fine on onFocusListener implementation. Can some1 suggest a different way to modify the image on click... I am new to android so havent learnt the nuances of simple animation also... if there is any simple animation i can use for the same then plzz plzzz let me know... Thanx...

• Show PDF in iPad using CGPDF APIs

  I have learned Apple has release CGPDF APIs in SDK 3.2 for drawing PDF context. What I understand from these APIs is that you can draw a PDF to a data object or a PDF file. You can then export it, may be, to your sandbox's directory OR add as an attachment in the mail. But I am not sure if we can use these APIs to read a PDF from application bundle and show it to the user page-by-page on the screen. What I want to do is open a PDF of a magazine in a magazine reader app. I was also wondering if we can identify the links in a PDF file and open them in the app. Let me know if have done OR doing anything like this. • Running Xcode Applications without installing Xcode

  I know nothing about Xcode, except it's a Developer interface from Apple that actually comes on OSX CD and it's used to create iPhone apps as well. I also know it have a Applications folder, filled with little utilities, that are indeed quite useful. I tried grabbing one of them and running, without installing Xcode but it doesn't work. It brings an error and a Problem Report from which I believe the relevant part is this: Dyld Error Message: Library not loaded: @rpath/DevToolsInterface.framework/Versions/A/DevToolsInterface I've tried, of course, locating that "framework", with no success. Well... I guess it's probably possible to install Xcode, get that utility source, if it exists somewhere, and compile for stand-alone. But that goes beyond my point. I just want to know if there's somewhere I can get those utilities and/or make them run without needing to install Xcode at all.

  Hi All, i have download Xcode SDK 4.2(xcode_3.2.5_and_ios_sdk_4.2_final.dmg) from Apple developer site and installed successfully . when open my old xcode project it shows baseSDk missing ,when i try to change project setting ,i have found and set base SDk as 4.2 it works fine my problem is ,in Base SDk list it shows (iOS 2.1, iOS 2.2, iOS 2.2.1, iOS 3.0, iOS 3.1, iOS 3.1.2, iOS 3.1.3, iOS 4.2) There is no iOS 4.0 and iOS 4.1 (which i have used before 4.2). anything wrong in my installation???? • The problem with installing PIL using virtualenv or buildout.

  When I install PIL using easy_install or buildout it installs in such way, that I must do 'import Image', not 'from PIL import Image'. However, if I do "apt-get install python-imaging" or use "pip -E test_pil install PIL", all work fine. • Xcode "The program being debugged is not being run" error- need help!

  I saw the other question here with the similar error yet their fixes did not help. I have a jailbroken iphone 3.1.2, and I just purchased apple's $99 dollar thing and I'm trying to make it so I can debug my apps on the phone. The device installs but will not run when clicked build and go. If I click on the icon made on the iphone it works. Any ideas? I already uninstalled and reinstalled my provisioning profile.

I don't understand why its showing a capacity of 8, when I only added 7 items.
