• Programmatically allow write access for a Registry key

  Hi everybody, I need to programmatically modify the Access Descriptors on a known Registry key during product installation. The way I want it to work is: The installer is run in Administrative mode. A Registry key is created. A function (the one I need) queries the ACL from the key. If this function finds that the group 'Users' already has write access, nothing should be done. If not, it should add a new permission allowing write access to the 'Users' group. The permissions are saved for the Registry key. This question is similar to Setting Registry key write permissions using .NET, however, I need a C++/Win32 implementation. Thanks in advance

  It's an important security issue and I'm sure this should be possible. A simple example: You run a community portal. Users are registered and upload their pictures. Your application gives security rules whenever a picture is allowed to be displayed. For example users must be friends on each sides by the system, in order that you can view someone else's uploaded pictures. Here comes the problem: it is possible that someone crawls the image directories of your server. But you want to protect your users from such attacks. If it's possible to put the binary data of an image directly into the HTML markup, you can restrict the user access of your image dirs the user and group your web application runs of and pass the image data to your Apache user and group directly in the HTML. The only possible weakness then is the password of the user that your web app runs as. Is there already a possibility?

• XP User account cannot write to USB

  Is there a local security policy setting or somesuch to allow limited user accounts to modify the contents of USB drives? Currently I get an "Access denied" error, further saying "Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use." The Administrator account has no such obstacles. Update: The problem is at least solvable by altering NTFS permissions (granting Full Control to Users), and therefore I'm losing hope that there is a more global solution.

• What permissions needed to connect to SQL Server Integration Services

  I need to allow a consultant to connect to SSIS on a SQL Server 2008 box without making him a local administrator. If I add him to the local administrators group, he can connect to SSIS just fine, but it seems that I can't grant him enough permissions through SQL Server to give him these rights without being a local admin. I've added him to every role on the server, every database role in MSDB shy of DBO, and he's still not able to connect. I don't see any SSIS-related Windows groups on the server - Is membership in the Local Administrators group really required to connect to the SSIS instance on a SQL Server? It seems like there is somewhere I should be able to grant "SSIS Admin" rights to a user (even if it's a Windows account and not a SQL account), but I can't find that place. UPDATE: I've found an MSDN article (See the section titled "Eliminating the 'Access if Denied' Error") that describes how to resolve problem, but even after following the stepsI'm still not able to connect.   Hello, I'm trying to bend views and drupal to my will. So far I've produced a view to display the titles of my nodes. Each node will be assigned exactly one taxonomy term from the set {X, Y and Z}. So for example, Node A has a title "Car drives into field, thousands don't care". Node A has a taxonomy term "Pointless". I'd like to group all the node titles by their taxonomy term. So.. Pointless - Car drives into field, thousands don't care - .... Next Taxonomy Term - ..... - ...... - ... You get the idea. Is it doable and how do I do it? I can't find the group by option in views. cheers SO.

The problem I'm facing is - files would be stored in a public directory and easily accessed by anyone knowing the file url. Is there a way I can restrict file access to a certain user group?

  Hi, I have houses that belongs to streets. A user can buy several houses. How do I find out, if the user owns an entire street? street table with columns (id/name) house table with columns (id/street_id [foreign key] owner table with columns (id/house_id/user_id) [join table with foreign keys] So far, I'm using count which returns the result: select count(*), street_id from owner left join house on owner.house_id = house.id group by street_id where user_id = 1 count(*) | street_id 3 | 1 2 | 2 A more general count: select count(*) from house group by street_id returns: count(*) | street_id 3 | 1 3 | 2 How can I find out, that user 1 owns the entire street 1 but not street 2?   I am trying to write the following query on postgresql: select name, author_id, count(1), (select count(1) from names as n2 where n2.id = n1.id and t2.author_id = t1.author_id ) from names as n1 group by name, author_id This would certainly work on Microsft SQL Server but it does not at all on postegresql. I read its documentation a bit and it seems I could rewrite it as: select name, author_id, count(1), total from names as n1, (select count(1) as total from names as n2 where n2.id = n1.id and n2.author_id = t1.author_id ) as total group by name, author_id But that returns the following error on postegresql: "subquery in FROM cannot refer to other relations of same query level". • Facebook Graph API: Feed publishing showing up as link type instead of status?

  So I'm publishing to a Facebook Group's Feed in my app, using the Graph API. It works fine, except facebook keeps treating the published info as a 'link' feed item type instead of 'status' like it does when I enter the same from facebook's site. eg: string url = "https://graph.facebook.com/<id-of-group/feed?access_token=<access-token>"; string data = "message=hello"; webClient.UploadString(url, "POST", data); Now when I pull the feed items, the json that is returned has "item":"link", with "link":"http://www.facebook.com", whereas I'd expect it to be "item":"status" and no or an empty "link" property. Any ideas?

• The width of a list that contains an embedded matrix grows unexpectedly

  I have a report in reporting services 2005 that includes a list with an embedded matrix and am attempting to put a border on the list, however, when I run the report in visual studio the matrix is growing past the end of the page and therefore the boarder is growing with it causing it to grow into the second page. It appears that there was supposedly a fix for this in reporting services 2000 service pack 1 but I am still experianceing the issue in 2005. The list has a details group that limits the records on a row to 4 using the following expression: =ceiling(rownumber("list1")/4), the matrix has a column group that should recycle those based on the rownumber determined by the list using the following expression: =rowNumber("list1_Details_Group") I have also attempted to put the list in a rectangle in hopes to stop the matrix from growing to no avail. How do I effectivly stop the matrix form growing past the space allowed by the list control?

• How to change order in ordered+persisted collection?

  I just need to change order of items in a (previously persisted) ordered collection... I tried simply passing the re-arranged collection to a setter: after committing a transaction the collection is gone. Then I tried to clear() the existing collection and addAll() afterwards: clear() makes persistent manager to mark all the elements as deleted. (But obviously I would like to be able to work with the collection items in the very transaction.) (The collection is not in a default fetch group, so I tried the above also with the named fetch group added into the fetch plan. No luck.) This must be the most stupid question, but I ran out of ideas and I'm stuck here two days already. I swear I googled. :(

Is there something in Linux that is similar to group policy in windows?. • EMC/Legato/Networker Failed to recover files : Cross Platform Recovery not supported.

  Software used to backup: EMC / Legato Networker legato server : windows legato clients: same hardware (2 years ago fedora something , now ubuntu ) Trying to recover from an old client, which is no longer available. So this is the thing. On 07/20/2008 we backed up a samba server(fedora something) to a tape , setting 1 year as browse policy and retention policy. Now this tape is recyclable. We took down the dns name. We deleted the legato client configuration. That legato client was reinstalled and is doing other stuff on ubuntu 10.04, with a different name but same ip. Now, 2 years and some month later #### Now we need to recover a folder from 2008 backup, on the fedora-samba-server. First thing, legato does not show the client name because the config was deleted. We create it again. We just set the old dns back on track, pointing the same ip, where the old server was, same MAC address ;). We created a new 'old client configuration' pointing to the new server. (different legato ip for client "I suppose" ) The ssid where the needed folder is on 2 tapes, 20 and 22. The index for that backup is on tape 21. We put this tapes on the jukebox (IBMT4000) -- not important for the issue -- All three tapes expired its browsable and recoverable time. So they are on recyclable. We get the clone id from the ssid with following command: mminfo -avot -q "ssid=<ssid>" -r cloneid We set the tapes to notrecyclable nsrmm -S <ssid>/<cloneid> -o notrecyclable We change the retention for the tapes for a future date nsrmm -S <ssid> -e 01/20/2011 We check the dates are correct : mminf -avV -q "ssid=<ssid>" -r ssbrowse(26),ssretent(26),savetime So far its OK. We close the terminal. Restart the server, just for being sure. Finally, we recover the index for that ssid where the folder should be. nsrck -L7 -t "07/20/2008" oldservername.domain.org There, we open the Networker User, select the server, select the old client as source, select the new client as destination. • rsync over ssh is not working anymore, while ssh itself is working fine (Write failed: broken pipe)

  This issue started happening after i changed router. This is the scenario: Windows7 Host Ubuntu 10.04 Guest (VirtualBox) Ubuntu 10.04 remote server What i used to do is run a very basic rsync command: rsync -avz --delete /local/path/ username@host:/path/to/remote/directory This worked perfect until i did change adsl provider, and i changed router aswell: now, this happens: rsync on Ubuntu Guest is not working anymore (to any random server), if using this new router rsync on Ubuntu Guest is WORKING, if i switch back to old router i tried a new virtual box ubuntu install, and the command is WORKING with both the routers So, the not-working-combo is oldUbuntu + newRouter. To get things worst, i can state that (on the not-working ubuntu) i ping the remote host plain ssh connection to the remote host is working fine (i can auth, connect, and do stuff on the remote host)
