• Layout with divs... can you have too many?

  What is the best practice for developing a layout? Is better to limit divs? I was looking through the html/css of some popular sites and they all seem to have divs within divs. For instance, a div for the entire page, a div for the topbar, a div within the top bar for the logo, search bar, etc. Is this a good practice? I suppose it's easier to position all the divs correctly and than place the necessary elements within the divs. It's what I've been doing this far but want to make sure I'm learning the correct approach. Any help on this is appreciated. Thanks!

There's no need to store random values so I want to use only generators. The problem is that generators are consuming, I can't resuging them more times. • How to increase thread-pool threads on IIS 7.0

  Environment: Windows Server 2008 Enterprise, IIS 7.0, ASP.NET 2.0 (CLR), .NET 4.0 I have an ASP.NET application with no page and no session(HttpHandler). It a streaming server. I use two threads for processing each request so if there are 100 connected clients, then 200 threads are used. This is a dedicated server and there's no more application on the server. The problem is after 200 clients are connected (under stress testing) application refuses new clients, but if I increase the worker threads of application pool (create a web garden) then I can have 200 new happy clients per w3wp process. I feel .NET thread pool limit reaches at that point and need to increase it. Thanks

  I read that SQL Server 2008 Express R2 database size limit has increased to 10G. That's good news. Can I use the Express edition of SQL Server to offer web hosting services to the public? Microsoft should be best in answering this but I can't find a clear answer on their site. I am also seeing several Windows web hosting plans include SQL Server as a total package for less than $5/month. I am wondering how they can afford to offer this.

• Implementing search functionality with multiple optional parameters against database table.

  Hello, I would like to check if there is a preferred design pattern for implementing search functionality with multiple optional parameters against database table where the access to the database should be only via stored procedures. The targeted platform is .Net with SQL 2005, 2008 backend, but I think this is pretty generic problem. For example, we have customer table and we want to provide search functionality to the UI for different parameters, like customer Type, customer State, customer Zip, etc., and all of them are optional and can be selected in any combinations. In other words, the user can search by customerType only or by customerType, customerZIp or any other possible combinations. There are several available design approaches, but all of them have some disadvantages and I would like to ask if there is a preferred design among them or if there is another approach. Generate sql where clause sql statement dynamically in the business tier, based on the search request from the UI, and pass it to a stored procedure as parameter. Something like @Where = ‘where CustomerZip = 111111’ Inside the stored procedure generate dynamic sql statement and execute it with sp_executesql. Disadvantage: dynamic sql, sql injection Implement a stored procedure with multiple input parameters, representing the search fields from the UI, and use the following construction for selecting the records only for the requested fields in the where statement. WHERE (CustomerType = @CustomerType OR @CustomerType is null ) AND (CustomerZip = @CustomerZip OR @CustomerZip is null ) AND ………………………………………… Disadvantage: possible performance issue for the sql. 3.Implement separate stored procedure for each search parameter combinations. Disadvantage: The number of stored procedures will increase rapidly with the increase of the search parameters, repeated code.

  I'm not sure if this is even a good question or not. I have a complex query with lot's of unions that searches multiple tables for a certain keyword (user input). All tables in which there is searched are related to the table book. There is paging on the resultset using LIMIT, so there's always a maximum of 10 results that get withdrawn. I want an extra column in the resultset displaying the total amount of results found however. I do not want to do this using a seperate query. Is it possible to add a count() column to the resultset that counts every result found? the output would look like this: ID Title Author Count(...) 1 book_1 auth_1 23 2 book_2 auth_2 23 4 book_4 auth_.. 23 ... • Creating nested fields for column on assignment table?

  I have three models, that represent a many to many relationship - Product, Sale and Product_sale. I have a nested form that allows me to create new products from the sale form - so far, so good. I have, however, added some additional fields to the assignment table - price, for example. How can I set the price on the assignment table from the product form, when it is nested in the sale form? I currently have the code below: <%= sale.fields_for :products do |products_builder| %> <%= render :partial => "products/form", :locals => {:f => products_builder, :form_actions_visible => false} %> <% end -%> I could nest a Product_sale form within the product form, but this would create a new product_sale, which is not what I am looking for. I will most likely need to nest the price field within the product form, to ensure that it updates the correct assignment record (since there could be multiple products on one sale form). How can I use a fields_for loop on the product form to update the existing assignment record that is built when I do @sale.products.build? The assignment record will not yet be saved, so I can not access it using a where clause and edit it that way. Thanks!

• jQuery cycle query

  We have a script used for each .item: $(".item").each(function(){ item_link = "http://..."; block = $('.block', this); $.get(item_link, function(data) { var src = $('img.slide', data).attr('src'); block.html(src); }); }); item_link variable is uniquie for each query. There can be 100 .item or more. The problem is - server has limit on connections at the same time, that why some .item get var src, some not. The best solution is to use just one .get at the same time. I think there should be some counter, if .get is finished - it gives message "I'm finished, you can start" to the next .get and so on. How to do that? Thanks.

• Adding up row number and displaying total using COUNT (PHP MySQL)

  I'm attempting to run a query that adds up the total number of subjects in a class. A class has many subjects. There is a 'teachersclasses' table between teachers (the user table) and classes. The principles sounds pretty simple but I'm having some trouble in getting my page to display the number of subjects for each class (directly associated with the teacher) This is what I have so far, trying to make use of the COUNT with a nested SELECT: SELECT (SELECT count(*) FROM subjects WHERE subjects.classid = class.classid) AS total_subjects, class.classname, class.classid FROM class Then I am calling up 'num_subjects' to present the total within a while loop: <?php echo $row['total_subjects']?> From the above, I am receiving the total subjects for a class, but within the same table row (for one class) and my other while loop doesnt run anymore, which returns all of the classes associated with a teacher :( ... Bit of a mess now! I know to return the classes for a particular teacher, I can do an additional WHERE clause on the session of 'teacherid' but I think my query is getting too complicated for me that errors are popping up everywhere. Anyone have a quick fix for this! Thanks very much

• Order mysql results without identifier

  Usually I would have a table field called ID on auto increment. That way I could order using this field etc. However I have no control over the structure of a table, and wondered how to get the results in reverse order to default. I'm currently using $q = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM ServerChat LIMIT 15"); However like I said there is no field I can order on, so is there a way to tell mysql to reverse the order it gets the results? I.e last row to first row instead of the default.

• file_get_contents not working

  I am trying to read a file in with file_get_contents () - it's a remote HTTP file, and I've checked the URL and it's fine. Only it doesn't work. More to the point the the error message is the standard Firefox server error: The connection was reset The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading. ... rather than any form of PHP error. It also only took a couple of seconds to come back so it can't be hitting the script runtime limit - any ideas on what is going wrong here? It's PHP 5 on Apache 2, running on Windows btw.

However, I am getting a "Unhandled exception at 0x01151cd7 in Bla.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation writing location 0x011557a4." error. The two indexes (left and right) are within the limit of the array.   Hi! I have a "super entity" SuperEntity and three entities ChildEntity1, ..., ChildEntity3 which extends the super class. It's easy to search for all entities in the database, i.e. we could use session.createCriteria(SuperEntity.class); It's no problem to search for one specific entity type, too, just replace the SuperEntity with any of the children to look for entities of that type. But I have a problem when allowing 'multiple choice' for the types. I.e., it could be neccessary to search all entities of type 1 and 2, but not of type 3. A first idea was to create two independent queries and join the results in a final list - but that would destroy the paging which uses offset and limit functionality of the database... Is there a possibility in Criteria to join two different queries in one single result list? Kind regards, RoCMe

It is working well, except that the ForeignKey dropdown list is showing all values and I only want it to display the values that a pertinent for the logged in user.   is there any way when using a div for a background image- to limit the height to only the content displayed? im putting the background image in a div because i want it centered via position:relative but the image doesnt show up unless i put a height on the div, and thats not what i want because i dont want to be able to just scroll down to the bottom of the image where theres no content ive tried putting the background image on the body css but if the browser is less than the width of the image, it just throws it over to the left and you can only see half of it- is there no way to make the background position:relative on the body? sorry if that doesnt make sense < thanks

  I have an application with set limits on subscription attributes i/e a user can have five projects for subscription A but have ten for subscription B At present I run a check on there current usage when linking to the create action and if they are over there limit I do not display the link to create a new project. On the view (for the new project ) I again run the check (in a helper) to see if they can create a new project and if they are not I display a message stating so and a little upgrade link. Is this a secure method of stopping a user bypassing there subscription attribute limitations ? What about direct PUT requests etc ?

  I am trying to use Hibernate pagination for my query (PostgreSQL ) i set setFirstResult(0), setMaxResults(20) for my sql query. Does anyone know about Hibernate pagination mechanism? I guess that Hibernate will select all data, put data into Resultset, and then paging in Resultset, right?

• Changing class of h2 inside specific div

  I want to make it so that everytime you click on an 'h2' tag, the 'input' inside gets selected and the 'h2' tag changes background, but if another 'h2' tag is clicked, the current highlight and 'input' selection changes accordingly. problem is that I have 3 different that do the same and with my code all the 3 forms are affected rather one. How do i limit my changes to only be contained to that form.
