• Segmentation Fault when using "mov" in Assembly

  I am working on a simple assembly program for a class, and am encountering an odd segmentation fault. It's a pretty simple program to convert bytes into kilobytes. However, within the function that does the conversion, I get a segmentation fault when I try to move the value 1024 into the ebx register. I've never had this kind of problem before when working with registers. Does someone know what could be causing this? I imagine it is something simple that I'm overlooking.   A normal UserControl looks like this in XAML: <UserControl x:Class="mynamespace.foo" ...namespaces...> <!-- content --> </UserControl> I'd like to be able to define my own top level object, along the lines of: <MyControl x:Class="mynamespace.mycontrol" ...namespaces...> <!-- content --> </UserControl> Where MyControl derives from a UserControl itself. Of course the compiler complains about "MyControl" not being found. Is there a way around this?

• Why does calling IEnumerable<string>.Count() create an additional assembly dependency ?

  Assume this chain of dll references Tests.dll >> Automation.dll >> White.Core.dll with the following line of code in Tests.dll, where everything builds result.MissingPaths Now when I change this to result.MissingPaths.Count() I get the following build error for Tests.dll "White.UIItem is not defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to White.Core.dll." And I don't want to do that because it breaks my layering. Here is the type definition for result, which is in Automation.dll public class HasResult { public HasResult(IEnumerable<string> missingPaths ) { MissingPaths = missingPaths; } public IEnumerable<string> MissingPaths { get; set; } public bool AllExist { get { return !MissingPaths.Any(); } } } Down the call chain the input param to this ctor is created via (The TreeNode class is in White.Core.dll) assetPaths.Where(assetPath => !FindTreeNodeUsingCache(treeHandle, assetPath)); Why does this dependency leak when calling Count() on IEnumerable ? I then suspected that lazy evaluation was causing this (for some reason) - so I slotted in an ToArray() in the above line but didn't work. Update 2011 01 07: Curiouser and Curiouser! it won't build until I add a White.Core reference. So I add a reference and build it (in order to find the elusive dependency source). Open it up in Reflector and the only references listed are Automation, mscorlib, System.core and NUnit. So the compiler threw away the White reference as it was not needed. ILDASM also confirms that there is no White AssemblyRef entry. Any ideas on how to get to the bottom of this thing (primarily for 'now I wanna know why' reasons)? What are the chances that this is an VS2010/MSBuild bug? Update 2011 01 07 #2 As per Shimmy's suggestion, tried calling the method explcitly as an extension method Enumerable.Count(result.MissingPaths) and it stops cribbing (not sure why). However I moved some code around after that and now I'm getting the same issue at a different location using IEnumerable - this time reading and filtering lines out of a file on disk (totally unrelated to White). Seems like it's a 'symptom-fix'. var lines = File.ReadLines(aFilePath).ToArray(); once again, if I remove the ToArray() it compiles again - it seems that any method that causes the enumerable to be evaluated (ToArray, Count, ToList, etc.) causes this. Let me try and get a working tiny-app to demo this issue... Update 2011 01 07 #3 Phew! More information.. It turns out the problem is just in one source file - this file is LINQ-phobic. Any call to an Enumerable extension method has to be explicitly called out.   It's pretty straightforward to add simple properties to a User Control that will appear in the desired categories in the Windows Forms designer, e.g.: [Category("Appearance")] public Color BackColor { get { return _textBox.BackColor; } set { _textBox.BackColor = value; } } What if I want to expose a more complex property, such as a collection of items of a type I define? I'm thinking something along the lines of the ListView.Items property, or the DataGridView.Columns property -- where the user of the control can access this complex property via a more specialized pop-up form (as opposed to a simple TextBox or ComboBox). Even a simple nudge in the right direction would be much appreciated.

How do I extract only required fields from the CSV file? • How can I set the line style of a specific cell in a QTableView?

  I am working with a QT GUI. I am implementing a simple hex edit control using a QTableView. My initial idea is to use a table with seventeen columns. Each row of the table will have 16 hex bytes and then an ASCII representation of that data in the seventeenth column. Ideally, I would like to edit/set the style of the seventeenth column to have no lines on the top and bottom of each cell to give the text a free flowing appearance. What is the best way to approach this using the QTableView?

• Are Sphinx & thinking_sphinx really stable? Not indexing Columns

  I'm encountering strange behaviour from thinking_sphinx/sphinx. My define_index block is about 100 lines, so quite a lot of columns i'm indexing. For full-text searching I only need about 10 attributes, for sorting and filtering I have another approximately 50 columns, mostly floats and integers. By filtering I mean using the "with" or "without" options. Searching does not really work consistently. All of a sudden, one attribute fails to filter. Or if I add a new one, it does not work. Only after a lot of tinkering it suddenly starts working. I cannot really reproduce it. Steps I that sometimes lead me to success where: rm -rf db/sphinx change the attribute definition e.g. has some_attribute = has some_attribute, :sortable = true or = has some_attribute, :sortable = true, :as = "some_attribute" restarting the server assigning a new :as name = has some_attribute, :as = "some_attribute_new" (yes, I did rake ts:rebuild or rake ts:in after every step) Does anybody else encounter similar problems?

  Hi I have an li element that will have something along the lines of this for a declaration <li class="module ui-helper-fix"> And I can dynamically change the color of the module by adding on classes (That are provided dynamically through DB calls) the end result being <li class="module ui-helper-fix module-green"> or <li class="module ui-helper-fix module-default"> Well I am fine with changing the color by adding on a new module-WHATEVER class but what I would like to do is remove any class that matches module-XXXX so it starts with a clean slate and then add on the class module-crimson. So how do I remove all classes that match module-xxx first ? Keeping in mind I don't want to remove the base module class. Thanks. -Seth

  I'm reading the following article: http://github.com/guides/keeping-a-git-fork-in-sync-with-the-forked-repo, where they mention essentially pulling in changes from two repos at the same time by creating the following alias: pu = !"git fetch origin -v; git fetch wycats -v; git merge wycats/master" This makes sense, but, as someone new to Git, I'm curious why the commands is that versus: pu = !"git fetch origin -v; git merge origin/master; git fetch wycats -v; git merge wycats/master" or something along those lines. Basically, I'm wondering why the argument to merge is wycats/master and how it knows about origin/master automatically. Looking for a quick explanation.

  Hi there. I have using Hg for some projects on my google code hosting. For each projects I set in [auth] section of .hgrc the username/password to push without every asking for password. But it is lots of duplication like: [auth] proj1.prefix = ... 111 proj1.username = google code username proj1.password = google code password proj2.prefix = ... 222 proj2.username = google code username proj2.password = google code password Can this somehow be doing with less duplications? • How can I work around the fact that in C++, sin(3.14159265) is not 0?

  In C++, const double Pi = 3.14159265; cout << sin(Pi); // displays: 3.58979e-009 it SHOULD display the number zero I understand this is because Pi is being approximated, but is there any way I can have a value of Pi hardcoded into my program that will return 0 for sin(Pi)? (a different constant maybe?) In case you're wondering what I'm trying to do: I'm converting polar to rectangular, and while there are some printf() tricks I can do to print it as "0.00", it still doesn't consistently return decent values (in some cases I get "-0.00") The lines that require sin and cosine are: x = r*sin(theta); y = r*cos(theta); BTW: My Rectangular - Polar is working fine... it's just the Polar - Rectangular Thanks! edit: I'm looking for a workaround so that I can print sin(some multiple of Pi) as a nice round number to the console (ideally without a thousand if-statements)

• What static analysis tools are available for C#?

  What tools are there available for static analysis against C# code? I know about FxCop and StyleCop. Are there others? I've run across NStatic before but it's been in development for what seems like forever - it's looking pretty slick from what little I've seen of it, so it would be nice if it would ever see the light of day. Along these same lines (this is primarily my interest for static analysis), tools for testing code for multithreading issues (deadlocks, race conditions, etc.) also seem a bit scarce. Typemock Racer just popped up so I'll be looking at that. Anything beyond this? Real-life opinions about tools you've used are appreciated.

  I'm trying to learn WPF and was thinking about creating a simple IRC client. The most complicated part is to create the chat log. I want it to look more or less like the one in mIRC: or irssi: The important parts are that the text should be selectable, lines should wrap and it should be able to handle quite large logs. The alternatives that I can come up with are: StackPanel inside a ScrollViewer where each line is a row ListView, since that seems more suitable for dynamic content/data binding. Create an own control that does the rendering on its own. Is there any WPF guru out there that has some ideas on which direction to take and where to start?

• Actionscript 3 : XML cached in local testing

  Hi, My question is about XML loading. I need to avoid xml caching. On a web server, the technique is adding a random param to reload each time the XML file. But on local testing (in Flash CS4 IDE, CTRL + Enter), the following lines are not possible : var my_date : Date; path = "toto.xml?time="+my_date.getSeconds()+my_date.getMilliseconds(); Is there any trick to bypass this issue ? I've read on different forum about the "delete" method, we delete the xml object and then recreate one new. In my case, I put : myXML = null; myXML = new XML ( loadedData ); But it doesn't work at all. I spent many hours on that problem, if anyone has a good solution... Thank you.

• Texture allocations being doubled in iPhone OpenGL ES

  The below couple lines are called 15 times during initialization. The tx-size is reported at 512 everytime, so this will allocate a 1mb image in memory 15 times, for a total of 15mb used.. However, I noticed instruments is reporting a total of 31 allocations! (15*2)+1 glTexImage2D(GL_TEXTURE_2D, 0, GL_RGBA, tx-size, tx-size, 0, GL_RGBA, GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE, spriteData); free(spriteData); Likewise in another area of my program that allocates 6 256x256x4 (256kB) textures.. I see 13 sitting there. (6*2)+1 Anyone know what's going on here? It seems like awful memory management, and I really hope it's my fault. Just to let everyone know, I'm on the simulator.

  A question that seems to have quite a few options for Python, but none for Java after googling for two days. Really really could use some help all I have found so far is a recommendation to use gaeVFS to build an excel file from the xml components and then zip it all together which sounds like a slap in the face. Oh yes and if you were wondering I am questioning my use of Java rather than python but at 5,000 lines of code it would be insane to turn back now... Other things you might find useful Client: GWT Server: Servlets running on google app engine storing data into the google data store Excel file: mandatory, CSV isn't good enough, no need to save the file just to be able to "serve" it to the client i.e. open a "Save As" box.

• Using Multiple Foreign Keys to the same table in LINQ

  I have a table Users and a table Items In the Items table, I have fields such as ModifiedBy CreatedBy AssignedTo which all have a userId integer. The database is set up to have these as foreign keys back to the Users table. When using LINQToSQL, the relationships which are automatically built from the dbml end up giving me names like User, User1 and User2 e.g. myItem.User1.Name or myItem.User2.Name Obviously this isn't very readable and I'd like it be along the lines of myItem.CreatedByUser.Name or myItem.ModifiedByUser.Name etc I could change the names of the relationships but that means I have to redo that every time I change the db schema and refresh the dbml. Is there any way round this?

• Releasing NSData causes exception...

  Hi, Can someone please explain why the following code causes my app to bomb? NSData *myImage = UIImagePNGRepresentation(imageView.image); : [myImage release]; If I comment out the 'release' line, the app runs... but a few times calling the function containing this code and I get a crash - I guess caused by a memory leak. Even if I comment EVERYTHING else in the function out and just leave those two lines, when the release executes, the app crashes. I'm sure this must be a newbie "you don't know how to clean up your mess properly" kind of thing ;-) Cheers, Jamie.

The only thing it does is receives incoming calls and executes a Perl script. No outgoing calls, no incoming calls to an actual phone, no phones registered with Asterisk. It seems like there should be an easy way to block all unauthorized registration attempts, but I have struggled with this for a long time. It seems like there should be a more effective way to prevent these attempts from even getting far enough to reach my Asterisk logs. Some setting I could turn on/off that doesn't allow registration attempts at all or something. Is there any way to do this? Also, am I correct in assuming that the "Registration from ..." messages are likely people attempting to get access to my Asterisk server (probably to make calls on my account)? And what's the difference between those messages and the "Sending fake auth rejection ..." messages? Further detail: I know that the "Registration from ..." lines are intruders attempting to get access to my Asterisk server. With Fail2Ban set up, these IPs are banned after 5 attempts (for some reason, one got 6 attempts, but w/e). But I have no idea what the "Sending fake auth rejection ..." messages mean or how to stop these potential intrusion attempts. As far as I can tell, they have never been successful (haven't seen any weird charges on my bills or anything). Here's what I have done: Set up hardware firewall rules as shown below. Here, xx.xx.xx.xx is the IP address of the server, yy.yy.yy.yy is the IP address of our facility, and aa.aa.aa.aa, bb.bb.bb.bb, and cc.cc.cc.cc are the IP addresses that our VoIP provider uses.
