  • Downtime scheduling - can it be automated?

    When servers need to have scheduled downtime at my workplace we follow a process roughly like the following: Propose time for work to take place on specific box/s Lookup list of stakeholders for specific box/s Seek approval from stakeholders (service owners/management etc) via email Incorporate changes to proposed time if necessary, repeat step 2 until.. Now everyone is happy with the time, send out a notification via email of the time, ask Staff who care about when the box is going down manually add it to their calendars some stakeholders the staff doing the work Do the actual work Is there an OSS project that we could use to automate this process? My googling has been fruitless so far. Will we need to build something ourselves? Would anyone else be interested in something like this?

  • Redirect domainA.com to sub.domainB.com

    Just a short and easy question, I hope. Currently, I've got a primary domain linked to my (virtual) hosting server. I now have a second domain name which I would like to link to a specific subdomain, i.e. domainB.com/X - subdom.domainA.com/X Preferably without having this redirect show up in the address bar. Can this be achieved through DNS settings alone, or would it require me to add a .htaccess file in Domain A's root folder?

  • Windows 8.1 unable to play Music or the Audio from videos through Optical Out

    I am having an issue with my audio output, where any music file, and the audio side of videos are not being played through my optical audio output. I am running a Realtek HD Audio device built on Revision 1.0 on a GA-P55A-UD6 Gigabyte Board, which runs through it's optical output to an Astro A40 Mixamp, which does some upscaling before sending it to the headset. Now, notification sounds, and sounds/videos/music played through the browser or programs like Skype or games are working fine. This seems to specifically effect Foobar2000 and Media Player Classic. I have updated these two programs to their latest revisions, in addition to the soundcard drivers to no avail, and searching the error code thrown by Foobar2000: Unrecoverable playback error: The parameter is incorrect. (0x80070057) through Google returns not very helpful results, other than the one potentially mentioning DRM. This issue I am having a very hard time resolving, and am wondering if anyone here has experienced similar issues after updating.

  • Add a subdomain that is hosted elsewhere

    Hi, I am quite inexperienced with DNS, so this might be simple. Our main domain foo.com is hosted at provider A. Now, we would like to host bar.foo.com at some other provider B - they have the domain set up with them, so I figure that I can do this by somehow adding the nameserver at provider B to the DNS configuration at provider A.   • Screen is greyed out after power failure shutdown: Mac OSX

    When the battery power is down and the unit not plugged in the computer is forced into a sleep mode requiring pushing the start button when power is re-connected. The initial desktop screen appears to be greyed out and is unresponsive with a timer bar which, when the timing sequence is complete restores an active desktop. I can't find any reference to this phenomenon in the OSX literature I have. Any pointers to where I can get more information? Perhaps I am using the wrong search criteria?

  • Auto-symlink contents of directory in my home directory?

    So I'm a dual-booter. I'm looking for an easy way to keep up-to-date symlinks in my Linux home folder pointing to every file and folder in the root of Windows personal directory. So, say I have foo.txt and bar.txt in C:\Windows\Documents and Settings\Nathaniel. I want symlinks of those files to automatically be made in /home/nathaniel/ (while I'm running Linux, of course).

  • Firefox addon that redirects broken link or bad-addresses to Google [closed]

    I want Firefox to redirect bad and broken links to Google search instead of the "Can't find the server" page. If it takes an add-on, that's okay. When you enter a bad or broken link in Google Chrome, the browser takes you to a search results page with all possibly relevant links to the request attempted. Please don't suggest the search-tool-bar, I am aware of it. And it's not really significant in this scenario.

    After you switch the Start menu to the classic style on a computer that is running a version of Windows Server 2008 without Hyper-V, the Start menu is not displayed correctly. Specifically, a black area unexpectedly appears on the left side of the Start menu. Additionally, the Windows Server 2008 logo bar is displayed horizontally instead of vertically. How can I get rad of it ?

    Hi, I am using MacBook Pro (Mac OS X 10.5). On the status bar, check I click the Wireless icon, it said 'Open Network Preferences' And then in the Network Preference, I click 'AirPort' tab, the status said 'Inactive' But the 'Turn AirPort on' is disabled and the Network Name is disabled as well. I have unlocked the preference pane as well. So how can I turn on Airport? Thank you.

    I just installed CF64 on a WinServer2008x64 machine. Previously a whole array of classic ASP and ASP.Net apps were functioning, after the CF install they're not.     I have researched this problem extensively and I can't seem to find an answer. In Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, I want to connect to my VPN through the NetworkManager applet. I installed all the network manager packages, including the gnome client. I understand I need to add the "Notification Area" to the panel, which I have done. I checked that the NetworkManager is running: nate@nate-desktop:~$ service network-manager status network-manager start/running, process 763 In /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf, I have added managed=true (don't know if this matters, but I saw it suggested on one forum): nate@nate-desktop:~$ more /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf # This file is installed into /etc/NetworkManager, and is loaded by # NetworkManager by default. To override, specify: '--config file' # during NM startup. This can be done by appending to DAEMON_OPTS in # the file: # # /etc/default/NetworkManager # [main] plugins=ifupdown,keyfile [ifupdown] #managed=false managed=true At this point, it looks like NetworkManager is running but it's not appearing in the NotificationArea of the panel.   • Windows 2003 shutdown instead of reboot

    Hi all, I've got a very strange problem. On the net I can only find problems with Server 2003 pc's, that reboot instead of shutting down, but in my case... (go figure) it does the opposite. When I choose to reboot, the system shutdown. Yes I am sure I used the reboot button. It happens via start == reboot and it happens when clicking on the reboot button when the update's have been installed. Nothing changed to the system's hardware. Only update's have been installed on the system. I did notice something odd in the logs when rebooting: Description: Timed out sending notification of target device change to window of "C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE" KB: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924390 They talk about a removable drive, but in my case, it's explorer.exe :s it appears 4 times.   • Force Colloquy not to use built-in Growl notifications

    Whenever Colloquy needs to pop up a notification (for example, when you are PM'd), it uses its built-in Growl notifications, which really annoy me because they stay on the screen until they are clicked (at least NOTICE's do anyways). I'd like to make Colloquy use the Growl that I have installed on my Mac, not its built-in Growl notifications. That way, I could change its preferences from the Growl .prefpane and it would match the look of all my other notifications. I seem to remember this being possible (maybe in a bug report or something), but I can't remember how. Thanks!

This is the correct display (command running from root: kdesudo ksysguard): This is the incorrect display (command: ksysguard): Here in the incorrect display, the menu bar is missing, and the tab "Process Table" is unclickable. I have already tried to remove the directory ~/.kde/share/apps/ksysguard/ but to no avail. My question: How do I restore KSysGuard back to factory defaults/normal functionality?

    In Windows 95/XP/Vista I could click on the start menu, "All Programs", and I would get a list of all my programs. In Windows 7 when I click start menu, "All Programs", I get a single column with a scroll bar - but that's not what I want, I want to see All Programs. How do I do this? I've looked in the start menu options but cannot find an option that appears to show me all my programs.

  • Volume keys not working after installing Silverlight

    I downloaded Silverlight for Safari to use Netflix. This download has caused my MacBook's volume keys to become non-functional, although I can still change volume through the icon in the menu bar or through system preferences. When I press the keys to change the volume, the transparent volume icon appears on the screen with a circle-slash icon at bottom center. Does anyone know how to make the keys functional again? I deleted Silverlight but still no sound.

Basic workflow of events: Customer sends email to [email protected] from [email protected] ACME administrator receives notification and can moderate email After moderation administrator confirm an email and send it to [email protected] John answears to [email protected] Before the email is send it is moderated again by ACME administrator What is important, that this functionality is easy to do with some CMS/CMF systems.   • Firefox automatically switching to https

    I am using firefox 14 and lately, I have been observing this weird problem with my firefox. Everytime I put an address in address bar and hit return, https version of the site opens. This has no problem to me but some of my the sites which do not support https can not be opened without typing full http:// followed by the site . I am not using https enabling extension. No extensions were changed when this problem popped up.
