  I am trying to setup a Ubuntu Server for an office. Its going to be a file share server that 4-5 desktops connect to and access the files. Im planning on having different access for certain computers so computer 1 has full access but say computer 2 can only see a certain folder. • Is there a good commandline console for Windows?

  I usually develop with Ubuntu but now I'm forced to use Windows XP. It's actually pretty okay except the commandline is irritating. I miss resizing the window just with mouse but on windows I have to go inside the menus and change the width manually. Also copy pasting is hard from the console. You can only copy an area of the console, not individual lines. Is there any good alternatives for the default commandline console in windows?

  I have installed Ubuntu 11.10 as my only OS after I formatted Windows XP but after the installation finished it took four hours to boot and start working it just was stuck in that purple screen with nothing on it!!! But if I unplug the power and start my PC again it start after bring me the grub option... What should I do to make em start just as easy as any OS do! my RAM is 1 GB, 80GB HDD, ASROCK.

  I am wondering if there is a way to run virtualbox XP machine on a Ubuntu base system with no/very minimal Ubuntu Desktop Environment. I want to use Ubuntu for as the base operation system for such things as Samba, DNS, LAMP. But some of the the applications we have developed and use are windows only.   I'm trying to use CLOC on Windows (XP) to count lines of code, and I can't get it to work. I downloaded the latest Win installer for CLOC 1.5.6, ran it (which caused a "DOS" window to open, scroll with text rapidly, then close before I could read anything) and then wrote cloc at the cmd prompt...and Windows doesn't recognize it as a command. Or if there is another easy-to-use lines of code counter that one could recommend (that runs on Windows), I'd be happy to try that.

  I have an OpenVPN config that I use on my Windows XP box and on my Ubuntu machine. When I use it with my Windows machine, I can connect to the VPN and access sites on the VPN, and the internet as normal. When I use it on my Ubuntu box, when connected to the VPN, I can only access internal sites - No internet access at all. I'm sure there is a way to configure OpenVPN on Ubuntu to allow internet connections, but I can't figure out how.

  I have installed ubuntu on my toshiba laptop and whenever I connect a microphone it doesn't detect any sounds at all. Everything worked well under xp. When I try sound recorder to record sounds it registers no sounds. The only thing that actually gets recorded is a sound when I remove or connect the microphone in its socket(a kind of a "click").
