  • Help doing a dynamic sort?

    I have a notifications table which contains different types of notifications for different events. Inside the table is a notifications_type:string column that contains the type of notification, i.e. "foo" or "bar" or "oof" I want the user to be able to select what notifications they want to display, so there are checkboxes below the result that correspond to prefs_display_foo:boolean, prefs_display_bar:boolean in the User model. What is an elegant way for me to set the :conditions in the find to properly display the sorted results? Also, currently I have it as a method in the user, but how would I do it as a has_many :notifications, :conditions = .....

  • Need some pointers/hints in writing a Windows Application

    Hi, I want to create applications in windows that has complete portability (within windows OSes of course). I have tried using one application written in Visual C++ but I had a real tough time in making it run in other windows OS (like it required .net framework libraries to be installed). This put me on the back foot because I had to copy a set of DLLs from one machine to another and most of the time something works some does not. And I am TOTAL amateur in writing windows based applications since my technological forte is mostly Java. Where to kick off? (like which tools/IDEs to begin with since I am seriously into writing my own utilities/tools). I am open to clarification should you guys feel my question is vague/blunt. Thanks.

How can I dynamically create different variable names? I'm not sure if that's the right way to ask the question. I want to create like xmlhttp1, xmlhttp2, xmlhttp3, so then I can reference each one.

  • Mysql help with view more button.

    I am working on a widget that is a lot like twitters widget where there is a list of postings and a view more button. I can get it to work with using ID variables but I would like to sort by popular posts. Here is my mysq code: $sql = "SELECT id, title, category, icon_normal, status, description, views_monthly FROM posts WHERE views_monthly<=".$lastPost." AND status='1' ORDER BY views_monthly DESC LIMIT 9" So the problem that I am having is it shows the first 9 just fine. When it gets to the point where views_monthly = 0 then it just loads the same 9 post over again. How do it get it to switch to using ID when it reaches Views_monthly = 0 and load fresh posts?

  • Need help with jquery json data transfer from php file

    Hey guys I am trying to return the latest 10 results of a query from a php file, through json format, to a jquery getjson function that prints results. I am getting weird problems though. For example I am only getting 8 entries returned, and some are disordered, and sometimes nothing is returned. I am not really sure what I am doing wrong, so if anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it.   • can ping but cannot browse.Can you help

    Hi all I have winxp with the latest service pack on my old laptop. I have a situation where I can Ping and status says connected but cannot browse. I have seen various post on the net proposing solutions that works for some and not for others I have tried reseting winsock but nothing. If I vpn to my work then I can browse. I would like to avoid reformatting the computer and not take such a drastic action. Any suggestions?

    I have a column within which are multiple 'records' (each a div). Each record has a bunch of fields (each a span whose id is the fieldname). I want to allow the user to sort all the records based on a field. I also want, the field that has been sorted to be moved to the beginning of the record. So I came up with this. But its really slow for a large sets. Not sure whats the best way to do this.     I am trying to get a simple effect working in jQuery, and only have a few hours of experience with it, so have a lot to learn. Each pane however has a 75x75 image on the upper left, which is always visible no matter which pane is active (and it is this image that when hovered over caused the pane to open) - what I want to do is for the image on the selected 'pane', I want to drop the top margin down 10px, and then put it back to 0px when a new one is selected, i.e. so the selected panes image is always 10px lower than the other 5 images. I suspect this should be easy, but not quite grasping the syntax yet. Thanks.
