• Generate GUID from any string using C#

  Some times you need to generate GUID from a string which is not valid for GUID constructor . so what we will do is to get a valid input from string that the GUID constructor will accept it. It is recommended to be sure that the string that you will generate a GUID from it some how unique. The Idea is simple is to convert the string to 16 byte Array which the GUID constructor will accept it. I also would like to know what the angle between the image plane's center normal and a line drawn from the middle of one of the edges to the camera position is. This will be used to consequently draw a vector from the camera's position through the player's click-coordinates to determine the world coordinates they clicked (or could've clicked). Also, when I set the camera coordinates, do I set the coordinates of the camera or do I set the coordinates of the image plane? Thank you for your help. EDIT: So, I managed to solve how to calculate the distance of the camera... • Teamcity build agent gives 504 gateway timeout

  I have a new teamcity build agent machine, which when started up tries to connect to the build server and fails. It never shows up in the connected, disconnected or unauthorised agents tabs of the build server web interface. The logs on the build agent show that it fails to connect with a 504 gateway timeout. Other VMS with similar configuration can connect fine and do not report this error. What can possibly be preventing this connection?

• High CPU usage by 'svchost.exe' and 'coreServiceShell.exe'

  I am having a laptop running on Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit. Since past few days, my laptop is facing a serious problem. Whenever I connect to Internet, either svchost.exe or coreServiceShell.exe or both hog the CPU. The coreServiceShell.exe consumes a lot of RAM also. Going into the details, I found that high CPU usage of svchost.exe is caused by Network Location Awareness service. And the high CPU usage of coreServiceShell.exe is caused by Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security 2012. That kind'a makes me think that Trend Micro may be the root of the problem. After further testing, I found that if I use IE or Firefox to browse the Internet, immediately after connecting to Internet, things are normal. See and But if I use Google Chrome, the coreServiceShell.exe hogs both CPU and RAM. At this point, if I disconnect the Internet, the CPU and RAM usage by coreServiceShell.exe continues to be high till I close the Chrome. Also, when I close the Chrome, while Internet is connected, svchost.exe continues to hog CPU but coreServiceShell.exe leaves the race. That makes think that Chrome is the root of the problem, but again, tracing coreServiceShell.exe takes me back to Trend Micro Internet Security. Stopping the Protection by the Trend Micro Internet Security doesn't help either (I am not able to stop its services though). I have updated the Chrome, but no help. I just can't figure out who is the culprit. I can't do without the Google Chrome (of course, by not using it) because of its immensely useful and indispensable features both during browsing and development. Secondly, I can't uninstall the Trend Micro Internet security Suite since it still has few months before it expires and is proving me reliable protection. What could be the cause of the problem and what can I do to resolve this? Thanks in advance

• Using Nortel Netdirect on Windows 7 64bit

  Does anyone know how to use Nortel Netdirect (Version 7.1.3.0) with Windows 7 64 bit (Home Premium)? There are several ways available to me for connecting, all of which work for me on a 32-bit XP machine: Nortel Contivity VPN client (v6_02.022). The installer appears to be 16-bit, so I can't even install it on a 64-bit machine. Web-based SSL via IE Web-based SSL via Firefox The Web-based SSL process is supposed to load Netdirect and start it up, establishing the VPN connection. Using Firefox, I'm able to authenticate with my smartcard, but when it tries to download the applet, the process stops with a message box saying that it couldn't download the zip file. If I run Firefox in Vista compatibility mode, it gets a little farther, and manages to start Netdirect, but then exits after notifying me that the netdirect adapter was not installed. • MultiView 2000 terminal emulator not printing correctly to Generic/Text Printer on Windows 7

  Guys & gals, Hope someone can shed some light on this. I am downloading reports from an AIX-based system by directing them to a TT printer which the terminal emulator (MultiView 2000) intercepts and directs to the default printer on the local system. This local printer is configured as a vanilla Generic/Text printer attached to a FILE port. When I print from AIX, the output is spooled down and the local printer prompts for a file name into which to save the file...but not under Windows 7. This has worked fine for many years, on both Win2K and WinXP. However, on Windows 7 the output gets spooled as a file into spool\PRINTERS (and looks as expected) but the print job then hangs with a status of "Error - Printing" and never prompts for a file name. I have to cancel the job. The Generic/Text printer works as expected with other applications. I have tried setting the printer to print directly rather than spooling but this only serves to hang the terminal session too. I've also tried to run the emulator in Windows 2000 Compatibility Mode and as Administrator in case it was something like that but with no luck. As you might expect, it does work fine in XP Mode (as long as I print to a printer defined therein and not the host's printer) but operationally this isn't going to be an option. Obviously this emulation software is a decade old (at least) and I could just cross/upgrade all the users (at a cost) but, before I do so, has anyone seen this sort of behaviour before and found some sort of fix?   we migrated a server from slicehost to linode recently, we copied the config from one server to the other. I'm preparing my applications using the "Install Application on Remote Desktop..." control panel app. So far so good. However, I am now trying to install FoxPro 2.6 which is a 16-bit windows application. When I try to install it I receive the message: "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher". Is there any way around this? I'm in the middle of a large migration to thin-clients and foxpro 2.6, while it won't be around forever, is a very integral application for our data-entry personnel. How can I get this to work?   I need to upgrade PHP so that I can upgrade joomla on my dedicated server. I have: kloxo 6.1.6 php-5.2.17-1 Linux CentOS-55-64-minimal 2.6.18-194.32.1.el5 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux I searched everywhere and I could only find that PHP 5.3 isn't compatible with zend. I would like to upgrade to 5.2.4, which is the minimum for joomla 1.6 and 1.7. I tried to run: yum update php.x86_64 Which is the PHP package installed, but it didn't work. This is a production server with quite a few users across many sites, so I wanted to do it as safely as possible. Is it safe to run "yum update"? It showed me 6 packages to install and 125 packages to update, including a kernel. Is that safe? I haven't touched kloxo's yum repositories. Update: I just successfully ran "yum update". Now I think I need to know how to add a new repository that has the 5.2.4 and how to update to that specific version. Any ideas?

  I just started working with node.js and doing some experimental load testing with ab is returning an error at around 30 requests or so. I've watched memory on top and I still see a decent amount of free memory while running ab, watched mongostat as well and not seeing anything that looks suspicious. I was using a TTAPI, which was connecting to turntable.fm through websockets. On the homepage, I was connecting on every request. So what was happening was that after a certain number of connections, everything would fall apart. If you're running into the same issue, check out whether you are hitting external services each request.

Also I created db and table for pam user.   Yesterday I installed Fedora 15 Beta with GNOME 3 - it works well. One problem though is that I installed Chrome 32-bit (which was wrong, should have been the 64-bit version) and now I can't uninstall it. I can't find it in Add/Remove Software, and I also can't install the correct version of Chrome because it complains about my other copy of Chrome. Any ideas how I can remove the existing copy and get the 64-bit version installed?   Hello, I created install script that will install SQL Server 2008 R2 on windows XP SP3, windows vista and windows 7. One of the command that i used in the installation is for silent installation of SQL Server 2008 R2. When i install it on windows XP everything works just fine but when i try to install it on Windows 7 i get an error. What am I doing wrong? • BSOD Before Windows Will Loads - Graphics Related

  Alright deep breath here: (Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit btw) Today I installed Star Craft 2 Beta. After trying to log in, it had some issues where it said my device stopped working (referring to my video device I have to imagine). After I force quit the game there were some random "hot" (various colors if i remember correctly) pixels on the screen. I decided to reboot and try again with similar results. I figured that maybe my display drivers could stand to be updated (I don't frequently update them as I don't often run into problems). I went out to nVidia's website and grabbed the latest drivers for Windows 7 64 bit GeForce 9 series. (I have SLi-ed 9800 GTs). Everything seemed to install fine and I performed the restart. This is when things went from bad (can't play SC2 beta ;) ) to worse (can't boot into windows!). Initially the very first splash screen - I think it's the bios splash screen - had lines of colored pixels covering it. It then displayed a screen that had lots of "(" on it. After that it showed the normal windows 7 splash screen as if it were going to load into Windows. Before getting much further, it BSODed on me. It was a 0x0000003B stop error. At nvlddmkm.sys. A little digging let verified that this was a problem with an nVidia graphics device, not a real shocker. Windows decided it would try to help me diagnose the problem, which it's only answer to was a System Restore, which did nothing to alleviate the problem. I was able to boot up fine in safe mode and was not able to roll back the driver, however I did uninstall the driver and reboot. I still had the graphical anomalies during the first two screens (same colored "."'s and weird "("'s), but there was NOT a stop error. Windows loaded up, found a default driver for the device and installed it and I restarted to let it load - and had yet another BSOD Stop error. Repeat driver uninstall, this time I reloaded the same version (I think it's possible that I was running a 32 bit version or a vista versus windows 7 version, but I don't have that information handy) of the nVidia driver from their website. Restart, same anomalies, same Stop Error. I am at a loss - At this point all I can think is that the firmware for the Video cards got fried or there's actual damage to the cards which I sincerely hope is not the case but the sooner I know the better. Any insight into what I might be able to do to troubleshoot/fix this problem would be most helpful. Attached below is a dump from DxDiag. • Windows 7 - Windows Update won't update

  I'm trying to update my Windows 7 Professional 32-bit edition and when I try to tell Windows Update to scan for updates it failed with the error code 0x80096001. It looks like it's just this one (corrupted?) file that's causing the problem. Thanks! UPDATE: Upon inspecting the file mentioned in the error message it appears that the file does not exist! What does this mean and how do I get it back? UPDATE 2: Ok it appears that the file in question appears only for a split second when Windows Updating is trying to search (but fails) to find updates. So I guess the problem doesn't have to do with the file specifically then.

• Hardware reserved memory issue

  I've seen lots of folks having problem with hardware reserved memory issue in Windows 7/Server 2008 R2. I have it myself but not as huge as others have. Problem description When you install Windows 7 (or its bigger brother Windows Server 2008 R2) your memory may not be fully utilised. If you look at Task Manager > Performance Tab > Resource Monitor > Memory Tab And scroll to the bottom of the list you will see a graphical representation of your memory. Some of it may be hardware reserved. Previous Windows versions didn't have this problem. System was able to utilise all memory available. Question Is there any solution to lower/remove hardware reserved memory? Sidenote I tried installing 32 and 64 bit versions but to no avail. I also tried both Windows: 7 and Server 2008 R2. But always get the same amount reserved by HW. On previous Windows versions I had more memory available because I'm simultaneously running 2 VMs on host (so three machines all together). And my memory peaks much higher now as it did on older versions.
