  Can a Java application be loaded in a separate process using its name, as opposed to its location, in a platform independent manner? I know you can execute a program via ... Process process = Runtime.getRuntime().exec( COMMAND ); ... the main issue of this method is that such calls are then platform specific. Ideally, I'd wrap a method into something as simple as... EXECUTE.application( CLASS_TO_BE_EXECUTED ); ... and pass in the fully qualified name of an application class as CLASS_TO_BE_EXECUTED.

  I am working on a chat application for android. This chat application is for sending messages from one device to another using internet(GPRS,3G,etc) from this application. please tell me a way to implement this. I thought using web services is more data(internet) consuming and less efficient.is this right? I worked on server and client sockets.   Possible Duplicate: Finding the default application for opening a particular file type on Windows Hello, in my application I want to open a text file, which has no .txt extension. Is there any way to get the standard application for .txt files in .NET (C#)? Sure I could use "notepad", but there might be some people (like me), who prefer another (their standard) editor. Thank you very much. Edit: The registry key "[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT]\txtfile\shell\open\command" references notepad, but that's not my standard app for txt files. How do I get the my current standard app for .txt?

• iPhone Application and programming Updates

  Hi When a user logs into my iPhone App. I store their userID and relevant information in [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]. This way they are not required to log in each time they access my application. When my application is live in the app store and I make updates to the code will this information be lost - will they then be required to log in? If so how do I go about preserving this information when I make updates? And while I can't image this happening but should a user choose to delete my application after they have installed it - how would I know that they have deleted it? I am using the push notifications and would like to flag the user as not being active so that I don't keep pushing out notifications to them. Thanks Very Much Cheryl

I would like to know, if can I use Silverlight 4 to make it web application and give users a full-fledged web-page where they can edit the document/excel sheet/presentation ? • C# Console Application - Odd behaviour - char '\a'

  After extensive debugging of an application, I noticed the console window would hang when searching text for the char '\a'. The goal is to strip out characters from a file. The console window would always hang upon exiting the program, and it would make it to the last statement of main. I removed the '\a' from the switch statement and the console application does not hang anymore. Any idea why? • Application Role and access second database

  I have written a script to create an audit trails to my database in a second one db. So far I had no problems during tests on my dev machine from SQL Server Management Studio. Problems started to occurs when I first tried to test my triggers from my application by modyfing data in it. Using profiler I found out, that my audit trails db is not visible in sys.databases, so here lies the problem. The application using an Application Role, so as I found on MSDN, that's why I can't get access to other db on the server. I'm not a DBA. I have no experience with properly settings the security stuff, so please guide me, how can I set the setting for guest account (according to MSDN) to get access to this db? I need to have a record for this database in sys.databases and I need to be able to insert data in this database in all tables. No select, update or delete I need.

We have a new requirement which is our data entry operators should be able to login to some kind of an admin module and simply change the text in the web pages, change the color etc. I have seen PHP based CMS’s that allows authorized user to change the content in WYSIWYG manner.   Looking for guidelines to create application file. For example I have an application that store user input into a file (Textbox, DataGrid, ListBox etc). I'm looking for WPF-C# implementation. I would like to have the following: If user edit a any form(Textbox, etc) an asterisk is displayed to the window title. When window is closed and asterisk is still there, a promote "Would you like to save changes" appears. If then saved the asterisk disappear. What do real applications use to create their application file? (Note: I'm not looking for database saving or SQL) I'm just looking for hints and guidelines. Thank you.

• Network license control for a Java application

  I have been tasked with providing some form of network license control for a Java application. The app would be stored on a network drive and run from a client machine. The basic idea is that it will be able to work out how many times it is being run concurrently and prevent the N+1th user from running the software where N is the number of concurrent licenses the customer has purchased. Is this possible somehow with a Java application? I implemented a "solution" which relied on multi-cast UDP communication between the running instances of the application but this didn't work because on most networks this kind of communication is blocked by security measures. Is there a better way? I don't even mind if it requires JNI/JNA. N.B. The solution does not have to be that sophisticated or highly secure.

• Creative an interactive GUI for a web application

  I have to create a web application (preferably using the Google App Engine) that will allow users to access it through a url link (not a Desktop application). The application graphically looks like a flow chart and each item in the chart can be selected to pull up a video (not in another window). It is recommended that I use Python. I have never made anything for the web before. Is there a best Python GUI API I should use? I've read quite a bit about Django so far I'm not sure if it is the best fit for this or not. • Windows 7 application issue - only appears in taskbar

  I have an issue where a program that runs fine under windows xp has stopped working with windows 7. The application appears to start fine then disappears with only the taskbar icon remaining. If you hover over the taskbar icon you can see the application and it kind of looks correct but selecting it does nothing. I cannot seem to get the application to actually appear. Has anyone experienced anything like this and is aware of any possible solutions? Recent builds have worked with windows 7 in the past and I don't believe any significant changes were made before this issue arrived. Thanks

  Hi, I've heard there are some precautions to take to develop a market in an application. I'm developing an application for a football club. I would like to integrate a kind of market to sell stadium seats. Someone told me Apple will refuse the application if I integrate it directly inside the app (using Obj-C, communicating with PHP pages). According to him, I should redirect the user to an external web page (using Safari app for example) to realize the transaction. Apple does not really communicate about that kind of information.   System = Windows 7 64-bit Various programs, notably Regedit, won't start. Instead I get: The Application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Strangly, at least to my thinking, I can launch them via Task Manager. I am also grappling with AVG errors or over-activity, e.g. reports of Broken digital Signature. I am also having problems with Excel Update KB978474 I mention these just incase anyone thinks there is a connection, rather than expecting people to solve 3 problems at once.

  I notice that iTunes seems to suck up all my bandwidth and doesn’t play nice with other applications that use the web when it's downloading. In fact, it doesn't even give itself enough bandwidth when browsing the iTunes Store while downloading large or many files (podcasts, TV shows, large apps, etc). I'm not concerned with getting all my downloads as soon as possible, they're really low priority, and I'd rather not have to do this while I'm awake, but I can't hit the refresh button if I'm in bed and forgot it already. Is there an application or tool via the Terminal to limit the download bandwidth that iTunes gets without also hindering web browsers or other applications? FOSS/GPL software is preferable, but pay software might be acceptable too.

  Back story for better understanding: I have a ghost made by someone else and toady some one I worked with made a new ghost in the same folder with the regular ghost I work with. I am trying to run the ghost now but get a 1808: Ghost Decompression Error and after aborting I get this message "Application Error 19225: Ghost has detected corruption in the image file. Please perform an integrity check on the image. If this problem persists, contact Symantec Technical Support at http://service.symantec.com" I would like to now if him making a new ghost could have ruined the old ghost and if not where did my problem come from and how do I fix it ?

  Hi, I want to know how the request & response from the VPN server on e.g.: https://host.tld/dana/jw?con=1234567890&seqno=7 is encoded, the output seems to be binary. I assume it is the application data which gets exchanged with this request, am I right in this? If not, what else gets transferred over this, what is contained in the response? • mono: application not running when web.config in subfolder

  I run asp.net on mono. I wanted to run blogengine: http://www.dotnetblogengine.net/ I downloaded, put it in /var/www/blogengine, on the console went to /var/www/blogengine and started xsp2. I went to http://localhost:8080, and it ran without problems. Then I stopped xsp2, went to /var/www and started xsp2. I went to http://localhost:8080/blogengine It ended with a strange error: The section <blogProvider> can't be defined in this configuration file (the allowed definition context is 'MachineToApplication'). (/var/www/blogengine/Web.Config line 9) The problem seems to be that it stops working as soon as the xsp2 root folder is anything else than the application root folder... Do I have to config anything ? Or what else is wrong ?

  I have been investigating a problem that occurred on a Windows 2003 server a few days ago. there are about 15 app pools, and within a few minutes, they all produced the error below in the system log: A process serving application pool 'Pool 31x' failed to respond to a ping. The process id was '7144'. The pools were then restarted automatically, but timed out during startup, leaving all sites down. My question is: what would cause a "ping timeout" to all of the app pools around the same time, and then why would they start up too slowly? The app in each pool is a WCMS which uses the .NET 1.1 framework. It connects to a remote DB but is otherwise independent of other machines.

  I am just starting out with Web Server 2008 and I am having some trouble working with the Roles Manager. I am working on installing the Application Server using the Roles Manager and what I am running into is that it will run me through the install and then alert me that the install file for .NET 3.0 is not found. ("The source for the specified file was not found. error value: 0x800F081F") I think tried to install 3.0 manually and I was told I cannot do so. So I basically wondering if there was somewhere for me to place the install file so Roles can access it. Thanks Levi

• Proper application shutdown before windows xp auto shutdown

  I frequently leave the computer on playing a movie or downloading a file while I go to bed. I do use the 'shutdown computer when finished' feature of KMPlayer or getright or uTorrent or whatever program I am using. This method effectively shuts down the computer, but the problem is that there are some applications that seem to exit forcefully when doing this kind of shutdown, this being clearly reflected in winamp not saving the current playlist and config, messenger not saving the chat logs, etc. My goal here would be to have automatically close properly all applications when the auto/scheduled program triggers it. I am looking for some Windows shutdown mode/setting that does application closing like the user would do. I am not expecting to auto-click on save dialogs prompts, if this is needed I will do it before leaving the computer on for auto shutdown.
