  • Developing Bots__Where can I start?

    i have a pet programming goal: to develop a bot for a game. Now, this won't be anything malicious, and I just want to do this to further my knowledge in programming. Can anyone help me out by pointing to where i can start learning how to develop a bot? the type of bots i want to make are video game bots (online multiplayer, first person shooters, and offline games(like solitaire and such)).     I was looking at Ch from SofIntegration and it looks pretty interesting as a possible teaching tool. It would allow the you to let someone learning to program "play" while preparing them to write full fledged C programs. I was wondering if anybody had "good" experiences using a C interpreter or weather it would be a better to go with a language that is typically interpreter to start with?

  • What does a forward slash before a pipe in cmd do to remove the line ending of an echo?

    This code: @echo off echo/|set /p ="Executing backup...." echo/|set /p =" backup procedure" ... came from Echoing in the same line and produces the below output in a cmd window: Executing backup....backup procedure However, I cant seem to find an explanation through google on what the forward slash does to the ¿pipe? to cause set's output to be echoed to the console / stdout If anyone could also suggest a good website for learning more about cmd / cmd programs' features like this, it would be appreciated.

    In Learning WCF, by Michele Bustamante, there is a section that describes a binding called the NetNamedPipes binding. The books says that this binding can only be used for WCF services that will be called exclusively from the same machine. Under what circumstances would it make sense to use this? Ordinarily, I would write asynchronous code without using WCF... Why would Microsoft provide something for WCF that can only run on the same machine?

  • Should I go back and fix work when you learn something new/better?

    Considering that we're all constantly learning, we've all got to come across a point where we learn something just awesome that improves our code or parts of it significantly. The question is, when you've learned some new technique, strategy or whatever, do your or should you go back to code that you know works, but could be so much better/maintainable/faster/generally improved and implement this new knowledge? I understand the concept of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" but when does that become losing pride in code you've already written and what does it say for refactoring.

    I looked into Logix and EasyExtend for Python. Logix hasn't been around for a while and it failed to install on Python 2.6. EasyExtend's tutorial is hopeless, the code in the tutorial doesn't even work. I am looking for something so I can write my DSL. My DSL will be used as a research tool.
