calling a wcf/soap method as an http get

Is there any way to enforce that a method call in soap based wcf is called as an HTTP get? I'm not sure if this would be handled on the client or server side. We wanted to have the wcf call process as a get vs. post for cacheability, etc. I'm also not sure how to monitor a wcf service to determine if calls are doing gets or posts (or if it always does one or the other). Can I use fiddler for this? I would imagine I could use a restful wcf service to wrap the call, but I wasn't sure if there was a way to do it straight in a soap based service.

Monitoring .NET ASP.NET Applications

I have a number of applications running on top of ASP.NET I want to monitor. The main things I care about are: Exceptions: We currently some custom code which will email us when an exception occurs. If the application is failing hard it will crash our outlook... I know (and use) elmah which partly solves the problem however it is still just a big table of exceptions with a pretty(ish) UI. I want something that makes sense of all of these exceptions (e.g. groups exceptions, alerts when new ones occur, tells me what the common ones are that I should fix, etc) Logging: We currently log to files which are then accessible via a shared folder which dev's grep & tail. Does anyone know of better ways of presenting this information. In an ideal world I want to associate it with exceptions. Performance: Request times, memory usage, cpu, etc. whatever stats I can get I'm guessing this is probably going to be solved by a number of tools, has anyone got any suggestions?

I need to monitor my audio line-in in linux, and in the event that audio is played, the sound must be recorded and saved to a file. Similiar to how motion monitors the video feed. PHP / javascript live chat using too much bandwidth

So I am learning about javascript, so I am making a live chat system with PHP and javascript. I have it so the javascript refreshes the log (each message gets logged in a file on the server), and it refreshes every second. Im using firebug to monitor the resource usage, and I see under the net tab each times its updated, and the bytes add up really fast. I know I can change it to update less, but is there a way that when a user on the other end I'm talking to, when the send a message, it gets sent to the server, then an alert gets sent to me saying that the chatlog needs to update somehow. That way it only updates when the log is updated. let me know, thanks

Problem indexing files in Solr on Ubuntu

Hi, What I want to do is index some documents in Solr and know how it works. I have installed Solr and Tomcat and can see Solr Admin UI at localhost:8080/ solr/ admin/ Now, I want to add some documents to the index, may I know how to proceed further? I find very less documentation on Internet regarding this. In the tutorial http://lucene.apache.org/solr/tutorial.html#Indexing+Data they asked to run java -jar post.jar solr.xml monitor.xml command but after running that I get connection refused error as it is jetty. After installing jetty I tried telnet: I get "Connection refused" error I am not able to understand what the problem is.

Printer Communication Capture

If I need to post this elsewhere let me know. We have some old software thats being re-written, that uses a printerdriver to a propriatery printer. I need to rewrite the software bypassing the print driver and go directly to the printer. I do have the specs for the printer communication, thats fine, but what Id like to do is monitor the communications to the printer to view its contents (from the existing software that Im re-writing) and compare it to the specs, and what I will be sending it for validation. I have to make sure Im not missing anything. Any ideas on how I might be able to accomplish this? Thanks

So, I have a screen capture utility (it takes full screen shots and saves it to png files) I've written, and it uses SM_CXVIRTUALSCREEN and SM_CYVIRTUALSCREEN to determine the width and height of the desktop. I then get the desktop DC and copy out the bits and save them as png. BitBlt( backDC, 0, 0, backBufferCX, backBufferCX, desktopDC, X_SRC, 0, SRCCOPY ); Here X_SRC is usually 0, UNLESS THE DESKTOP HAS BEEN EXTENDED "TO THE LEFT". In that case it needs to be -1280px, for example, if the left monitor measures 1280px. How can I determine if the desktop's starting point is negative (if the user has extended his desktop to the left?)

DNS Lookup in ASP.Net

I have a Windows server that is intermittently losing the ability to lookup DNS information. I'm trying to get to the root cause of the problem but in the mean time I'd like to be able to monitor whether the server can perform lookups. Basically, it should attempt to lookup some common hostnames and the display 'Success' if the lookups are successful. I see lots of examples of doing this with third party components in ASP.NET but I would prefer to be able to do this with a single ASP.Net script that would be portable and not require anything additional be installed.

Is it possible to programmatically control c# health monitoring without using the web.config file?

I have developed my own custom provider for the health monitoring; however, I use parameters in the constructor and this is not allowed when using the health monitoring from the web.config file. Does anyone know if I can turn on/off the monitoring and have it watch properly through code (possibly in my global.asax file on application startup). Or, is it possible for me to create my own watcher that will do the same thing as the health monitor. Or, finally - can I just pass variables from the web.config setup (i'm not familiar with the public token part of the provider type declaration). Thanks in advance

Sql Server performance

I know that I can't get a specific answer to my question, but I would like to know if I can find the tools to get to my answer. Ok we have a Sql Server 2008 database that for the last 4 days has had moments where for 5-20 minutes becomes unresponsive for specific queries. e.g. The following queries run in different query windows simultaneously have the following results SELECT * FROM Assignment --hangs indefinitely SELECT * FROM Invoice -- works fine Many of the tables have non-clustered indexes to help speed up SELECTs Here's what I know: 1) The same query will either hang indefinitely or run normally. 2) In Activity Monitor in the processes tab there are normally around 80-100 processes running I think that what's happening is 1) A user updates a table 2) This causes one or more indexes to get updated 3) Another user issues a select while the index is updating Is there a way I can figure out why at a specific moment in time SQL Server is being unresponsive for a specific query?

How To Configure Query Cacheing in EclipseLink

I have a collection of states, that I want to cache for the life of the application, preferably after it is called for the first time. I'm using EclipseLink as my persistence provider. What is the correct way to configure this query so that it is only ever read once from the database, preferably across all sessions? "Use windows xp style dpi scaling" disables automatic auto-hide of taskbar on W7. Workaround?

We noticed that on W7 with DPI set to 125% or to 100% with ("Use windows xp style dpi scaling") turned off, our fullscreen mode (which sets the client rect of our window = desktop rect of the main monitor) no longer hides the task bar like it does for other settings. (The setting can be found in the Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display section after clicking on the "Set custom text size (DPI)" link) I found the following interesting article: http://www.mathies.com/weblog/?p=908 So I set out to try to work around the bug in other means than manually hiding/restoring the taskbar visibility but so far I've failed and currently believe it's a bug in W7 (and possibly vista). The following applications also fail to work properly in fullscreen mode (the taskbar is still visible): * Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 * Microsoft Word 2007 * Adobe Reader 9.1.3 These apps work (probably by hiding the task bar through the WIN32 API): * Powerpoint Slide Show I also tried creating a brand new MFC-based app and use its "SetFullScreenMode()" functionality but it fails in the same way as all other apps on the list. I have an Excel spreadsheet, and I want to put a button on it, so users will be able to upload their data to an http/ftp server, or send the data to the server using a socket directly. I have noticed that some people creates an ftp script to do. First of all, I'm not sure that everybody has ftp on their Windows machine, and secondly, I would prefer to use a method that allows me to better monitor the progress of the upload. For example, I want to know if the user id/password failed, if the transmission completed successfully, of if there were any other kind of errors with the receiving server. Thank you.

Can I use meteor for this?

I'm looking for a way to create an app which has a realtime web interface as well as an API which can be called by a node.js client while sharing most of its code. I'd like to be able to manage data, monitor and execute tasks inside of my app via browser, but also have an automation/scheduling program which connects to my web app and tells it to run various tasks and get results of each task. Unfortunately it doesn't look like I can connect to Meteor from the server, so I'm wondering if there's another approach? Is what I described even possible using Meteor? I have done some testing using socket.io and I think I may be able to do it this way, but Meteor seems like it'd be really great for the realtime user interface.

Using the JNotify library, how can you tell if a deleted file was a file or a directory?

For those unfamiliar with JNotify, this is a library which provides an easy way to monitor events in a directory. For instance, when a file gets deleted in the selected folder, the method "fileDeleted" gets called, along with a few parameters. Here's an example of the fileDeleted method: public void fileDeleted(int wd, String rootPath, String name) { print("deleted " + rootPath + " : " + name); } Now, I would like to know if the deleted file was a file or directory. My usual approach is to create a new File object with the given path, and use the methods isFile() and isDirectory() However, since this file is already deleted, these methods always return false. So here's my concrete question: I have the path to a deleted file or directory, how can I tell wether it was a file or a directory? Is there a workaround to this? What's the best practice to do here? CoreData leak when reading a property

Hello, I have the following code in a loop iterating over the different document objects: NSAutoreleasePool* pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; [document primitiveValueForKey:@"data"]; [data writeToFile:filename atomically:NO]; [document.managedObjectContext refreshObject:document mergeChanges:NO]; [pool release]; The "data" property is a large blob (a 1MB image). And as I monitor the memory with the Allocation Instrument memory usage is increasing. I cannot find where the leak is coming from and how to remove it. Thanks!

I use MS Visual C++ 2010, and I want to send a command: <-S-> I am doing this: SerialPort^ serialPort = gcnew SerialPort(portName , 9600, Parity::None, 8, StopBits::One); serialPort->Open(); serialPort->WriteLine("<-S->"); serialPort->Close(); But the command that goes out is <-S->., and not <-S-> (please notice the point that is attached to the outgoing command). I use Free Serial Port Monitor to watch my ingoing/outcoming data. So how can I get rid of that point in <-S->. ? This is what is going out: 3C 2D 53 2D 3E 0A = <-S-. " When your using the mapping feature to write into a memory buffer, are you really just saving the whole procedure into a queue so directX executes it when finished with other tasks???" I ask this question because this is my perception of mapping when writing to a buffer. I just want to make sure my perception is correct. I understand that the monitor moves extremely slow in compared to the processor, and I am sure the processor can execute 10 times the amount the screen can refresh. So is this one of the reason you should map when writing to a buffer. so each procedure can be done in a orderly fashion. If someone could elaborate, that would be great. thanks

WPF Manipulation and Touch events not firing, but mouse events do?

I have a Samsung LD220Z multi touch monitor, and when I'm experimenting with some WPF and touch features the touch events arent firing. The mouse down event seems to be firing however. Does this mean that I have to take into account that not all touch screen behave the same, and how do I get the touch inputs on my screen? I've tried the Windows 7 Touch pack that microsoft released. And the multi touch features seems to work there. Any suggestion on how to proceed with this?

Call a JavaScript function in a Google Chrome window from a vb.net program

I am having a real problem with this. I want to know if it is possible to run/call a javascript function in a Google Chrome web browser window from a VB.net application. The scenario is that i want to monitor the pc activity (which i know how to) and then if a certain event is met (for example, high ram usage) then it calls a JavaScript function in a Google Chrome web browser window so the website is updated. Sort of like a bridge. The only bit it need to know is the vb.net code for how to access a chrome window and invoke a javascript function if its possible. I assume i will need to use process handlers? Any help is appreciated.
