  • How to quickly switch monitors on multi-monitor setup?

    At my desktop PC, I have 3 displays hooked up on my Palit GeForce GTX 480 to extend my desktop: DVI: Samsung SyncMaster T220 (22" 16:10, 1680x1050, as my main) DVI: Samsung SyncMaster 940BF (19" 4:3, 1280x1024) HDMI: Sony Bravia KDL-32D3000 (32" 16:9, 1360x768) As expected, the GFX card can only utilize 2 of the displays at any given time, so I have to manually switch using Windows' "Display Properties" dialog, each time I want to switch between them. I've tried UltraMon, DisplayFusion and PowerStrip (so please don't refer me to a question where those are given as solutions) but they are unable to switch monitors. Instead they can only change display resolutions and settings on the existing active monitors, with specially weird results when I've saved the monitor states and then tried to switch monitors using the saved states! Any idea on how to bypass the awful "Display Properties" dialog and it's "confirm your change" timer?

  • How do I keep the keyword.url setting in firefox to default when you restart the browser without del

    I am on the latest version of Firefox (not beta or anything like that) and currently my keyword.url is stuck on search.google.com (which I don't remember setting even though the about:config says it's a user setting. Can someone tell me how to set it back to default and keep it at default when I reset my browser? I do not want to delete prefs.js as I do not want to go thru setting up all the extension settings I have just to have my location bar search google (if this is the only way then I'll stick with searching from the search bar instead). I've checked all my extensions that may effect the location bar but could not find anything that says it would change the default search engine for this. I've also tried to open the prefs.js in wordpad or notepad but it just ends up freezing when trying to edit it at all (yes the browser is closed at the time). I also deleted the prefs-1.js (along with 2 others) that were older (after trying to rename those to prefs.js and see if this corrects it. It might have but had such old extension settings I went back to my latest prefs.js with this one issue instead of the issue of setting back up a ton of extensions. I can give any other info if needed, someone please help me fix this issue if possible.

  • How do you enable multi-core virtualization in Windows 8 Pro?

    I've just got a new Dell Vostro 470 with a quad core (8 threads) i7 3770 and I'm trying to run virtual machines on it, which works fine, except if I want to assign multiple cores to a VM. I've checked the bios which states Intel Virtualization Technology [Enabled], but both Hyper-V and VirtualBox will only allow me to assign a single core. If I run the Intel Processor Identification Utility on the host OS it tells me that Intel Virtualization Technology isn't supported by the processor, but according to the Intel website, it is. So whats going on? Have Dell clipped the i7's wings? Is there some config in Windows I need to change?

    I have developed www.mysite.com. This site can be "integrated" into my partners website. What I do is to create partner1.mysite.com and repalce my header and footer with my partners header and footer and replace some CSS styling. This should make it as transaprent as possible for the user, so that they think they are still browsing my partners website. There are two ways I see how I can accomplish this: 1. My partner uses an IFrame to show the content from partner1.mysite.com 2. My partner creates sub domain and points it to my sub domain. Solution 1 is easy, but I'm not sure how search engines likes this, so I will try solution 2. QUESTION Can I use mysite.partner1.com but read content from partner1.mysite.com? I don't want to forward / redirect users to partner1.mysite.com. It's important that the URL is mysite.partner1.com / mysite.partner1.com/some/page. Is this possible?     A customer has an audio that is confidential and can't send it to me. He also would not like to install other tools. He has a basic Windows 7 install. Is there any way to tell whether the recording is one channel or two channel? Normally, I would just get the audio and soxi it. Or, I would tell him to install Audacity or equivalent sound editor and open it up. I also thought that if you right clicked and looked at the size, bit rate, and length, you could get number of channels but bit rate already factors in number of channels. Sorry I'm not giving you a lot to work with.

    I want to set up an Oracle Linux 6 server that gives users secure IMAP email (with dovecot), Jabber IM, FTP (with vsftpd), and calDav. However, I want each user logon to be able to authenticate all services (e.g. Joe Smith signs up once for a username and password that he can use for email, ftp, and his calendar). My question is, which database service will be best suited for that application? Also, is there a way to link the database with the preexisting server shell logins (e.g. so I can read the root account's LogCheck emails on a different device)?

    Sorry for the mixed-up title, but let me try to explain better: We run a hosting solution, which until now has supported shared hosting and VPSes. Easy enough. We are now getting larger clients which require a more complex setup. We have more or less settled the server-setup itself, which will consist of: 1-2 Frontend Proxy/Load balancing servers 2+ Application servers 1 Database server 1 optional Memcached server The issue we are dealing with is to agree on a flexible and easy-to-maintain IP setup. So far we've been into VLAN'ing the internal servers in its own subnet, we've though of assigning an official IP to each server, and so on. What will be the best approach here? Any best practices? Using one official IP on the Frontend server, and then just set up an internal subnet for the servers behind that? We could then just NAT in any eventual sources required to access for instance the DB server directly over 3306.

  • pdflush hanging on Amazon EBS drives when using multi-GB files - any workaround?

    Hello, When I run gunzip on a 1.7GB file (which generates an 8GB file) on an EBS volume, pdflush freezes after gunzip runs and the CPU hangs indefinitely at 100% IO Wait. Here's the output from 'ps aux | grep pdflush'. Note the D status root 87 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? D 06:18 0:00 pdflush root 88 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? D 06:18 0:00 pdflush The only solution is to kill the pdflush processes. The processes don't die immediately either. This problem is repeatable and happens with new instances. I'm running 2xlarge instances and I have way more RAM free than is being used (i.e. /proc/meminfo shows 20+GB MemFree) Has anyone found a workaround to this problem in the past?     In Firefox you can easily save a group of tabs together. When (re-)accessing this group, the 'cascading' bookmark menu shows each individual bookmark (and under a line) it says "open all in tabs" I'm looking for a way to launch those tabs without going up through the bookmark menu. Possible options: A) Record a simple macro w/ any number of "superuser" utilities* ('A' is not the preferred option, since many 'little-macros' are hard to keep track of) b) Use Autohotkey (similar to option 'A' and more flexible once you learn the basics) c) How does Firefox load all those tabs? The info must be stored somewhere (as a type of URL??) Quick Summary: The moment I click on "open all in tabs", I am clicking on something very similar to a hyper-link. How do I find the content (exact code) of that 'hyper-link', and / or "How do I easily launch the tabs?" .. . New EDIT #1: I'm looking for a way to launch those tabs without going up through the bookmark menu, or cluttering the bookmarks toolbar which I hide anyway :o) .. . New EDIT #2: I tried to keep the question simple and not mentioning Autohotkey programming. The objective is to launch all tabs using a button on an AHK gui. When grawity said, "It's just an ordinary folder containing ordinary bookmarks," he (she) reminds me I can easily find the folder / Now how to launch to urls inside that folder? ..   • Windows 7 mouse multi selection on windows explorer with CTRL and point to select / single click to open

    This is something that have annoyed me since i changed to Windows 7. I don't do double click for a long time now since windows introduced 1 click selection (Folder Options Click items as follows Single click to open an item). The problem is, when i click Control and hover over the items, they select/deselect automatically every small amount of mouse movement i make. What i want is to select/deselect the items only when i enter/exit them. So to deselect an item im hovering, i have to move the mouse out of it, and then back in. I'm using Intellimouse Explorer official drivers. (edit) Here's another related annoyance: When you are hovering something and move the mouse inside other item (Holding Ctrl) The new item may or may not be selected. If you continue moving the mouse it gets selected/deselected as you move. (more edit) I have found that the parameter HKCU\Control Panel\Mouse\MouseHoverHeight / MouseHoverWidth have some influence here. If it's set to 2, the item select/deselect really quickly as you move the mouse. When set to larger numbers, its slower. But setting to 20 or 200 don't seem to be much different.

  • Do you lose everything when you have a hard disk failure in a multi-hard disk LVM that does NOT use RAID?

    I'm debating about using LVM for a media/file server because I would like to combine multiple physical hard disks into one volume. I do not wish to use any RAID in my LVM so my question is: If one of the multiple hard disks in my volume were to go down would I lose all my data or would I just lose the data that was stored on that individual disk? Also, if I were to just lose the data on the individual disk, would it be as simple as replacing that disk and restoring what was on it from a backup to recover? Thanks everyone.

Ah, to make it even more annoying, it's a self-signed certificate, and the page requires authentication, and HTTPS is listening on a non-standard port... So the TCP/SSL Handshake experience will differ greatly for many users. Is -m recent the right route? Is there a more graceful method to allow the complete TCP stream once the string is seen?     I am trying to build a file storage box for media. It needs to span two or more directories or partitions as one share. There are a few solutions but reasons why I want to avoid them, among these are: Using LVM2 for stripping. I don't really have the resources to back up everything on the volumes incase one HDD goes south. I would end up loosing everything. Maybe there is a better option for this to prevent data loss with hot swappable drives or some kind of raid. Using symbolic links in the share. This will get tedious every time a new sub-directory is added. Is there some kind of software raid I can use to merge two directories virtually? I am aware of the issue where /dev/hda1/media/file.1 and /dev/hdb1/media/file.1 both exist. But I'm sure there are some creative solutions for this.

I've used VNC, but that only allows one person to control the computer. For some background: I'd like to set up a mac that many users can RDP into from PC's to do XCode development.   • Set one background to stretch across multi-monitor display?

    I have two monitors and my coworker has three. We were wondering if there was a way to set a single background image to stretch across all the monitors. Right now it's the same image but repeated, so it looks like the same image three times in a row. I would like it to be so that the three images/screens combine to show one image if that makes sense. If I can't set one image to stretch across the screens like that, is there a way to set a different background for each screen? Edit: I just wanted to clarify: I am not talking about one image stretching from his monitors to mine, just stretching across our own monitors.

    I have a sip account which only allows one device to be registered. When i'm at home I want incoming calls to be able to ring on multiple devices. All of these devices are connected to the local network. I'm guessing the way to do this is using a local server/proxy that would allow multiple registrations which then forwards traffic to/from my sip provider. What a simple way to do this on either OS X, Ubuntu or using some low cost SIP router hardware?
