• Spring/Hibernate/Junit example of testing DAO against HSQLDB

  Hi guys, I'm working on trying to implement a JUnit test to check the functionality of a DAO. (The DAO will create/read a basic object/table relationship in HSQLDB). The trouble I'm having is the persistence of the DAO (for the non-test code) is being completed through an in-house solution using Spring/Hibernate, which eliminates the usual *.hbm.xml templates that most examples I have found contain. Beacuse of this, I'm having some trouble understanding how to setup a JUnit test to implement the DAO to create/read (just very basic funtionality) to an in-memory HSQLDB. I have found a few examples, but the usage of the in-house persistence means I can't extend some of the classes the examples show (I can't seem to get the application-context.xml setup properly). Can anyone suggest any projects/examples I could take a look at (or any documentation) to further my understanding of the best way to implement this test functionality? I feel like this should be really simple, but I keep running into problems implementing the examples I have found. Thanks in advance!

  In my class we are writing our own copy of C's malloc() function. To test my code (which can currently allocate space fine) I was using: char* ptr = my_malloc(6*sizeof(char)); memcpy(ptr, "Hello\n", 6*sizeof(char)); printf("%s", ptr); The output would typically be this: Hello Unprintable character Some debugging figured that my code wasn't causing this per say, as ptr's memory is as follows: [24 bytes of meta info][Number of requested bytes][Padding] So I figured that printf was reaching into the padding, which is just garbage. So I ran a test of: printf("%s", "test\nd"); and got: test d Which makes me wonder, when DOES printf("%s", char*) stop printing chars?

• How do I get real integer overflows in MATLAB/Octave?

  I'm working on a verification-tool for some VHDL-Code in MATLAB/Octave. Therefore I need data types which generate "real" overflows: intmax('int32') + 1 ans = -2147483648 Later on, it would be helpful if I can define the bit width of a variable, but that is not so important right now. When I build a C-like example, where a variable gets increased until it's smaller than zero, it spins forever and ever: test = int32(2^30); while (test > 0) test = test + int32(1); end Another approach I tried was a custom "overflow"-routine which was called every time after a number is changed. This approach was painfully slow, not practicable and not working in all cases at all. Any suggestions?

• Inconsistent syntax c# ?

  private string[] GetRoles() { string[] foo = {"Test"}; return foo; } The above compiles, but... private string[] GetRoles() { return {"Test"}; } Does not. Replacing it with: return new string[] { "Test" }; Will obviously compile though. Is this inconsistancy or am i being stupid, or am i just wrong :S.

When I run test.c compiled with name "test" (permission: -rwsr-xr-x owner:root group:staff) The way I run it: I am running it as group member under "src" group. But I run "test" as root since "test" permission is -rwsr-xr-x Question: Why did result come out like this? is the src.tar.gz group should be "src"? • C# 4.0: casting dynamic to static

  This is an offshoot question that's related to another I asked here. I'm splitting it off because it's really a sub-question: I'm having difficulties casting an object of type dynamic to another (known) static type. I have an ironPython script that is doing this: import clr clr.AddReference("System") from System import * def GetBclUri(): return Uri("http://google.com") note that it's simply newing up a BCL System.Uri type and returning it. So I know the static type of the returned object. now over in C# land, I'm newing up the script hosting stuff and calling this getter to return the Uri object: dynamic uri = scriptEngine.GetBclUri(); System.Uri u = uri as System.Uri; // casts the dynamic to static fine Works no problem. I now can use the strongly typed Uri object as if it was originally instantiated statically. however.... Now I want to define my own C# class that will be newed up in dynamic-land just like I did with the Uri. My simple C# class: namespace Entity { public class TestPy // stupid simple test class of my own { public string DoSomething(string something) { return something; } } } Now in Python, new up an object of this type and return it: sys.path.append(r'C:..path here...') clr.AddReferenceToFile("entity.dll") import Entity.TestPy def GetTest(): return Entity.TestPy(); // the C# class then in C# call the getter: dynamic test = scriptEngine.GetTest(); Entity.TestPy t = test as Entity.TestPy; // t==null!!! here, the cast does not work. • Rails 3 functional optionally testing caching

  Generally, I want my functional tests to not perform action caching. Rails seems to be on my side, defaulting to config.action_controller.perform_caching = false in environment/test.rb. This leads to normal functional tests not testing the caching. So how do I test caching in Rails 3. The solutions proposed in this thread seem rather hacky or taylored towards Rails 2: How to enable page caching in a functional test in rails? I want to do something like: test "caching of index method" do with_caching do get :index assert_template 'index' get :index assert_template '' end end Maybe there is also a better way of testing that the cache was hit?

• No right-click event Firefox 3.6

  I'm in the process of porting an app to JavaScript/CSS and it uses right-click. For some reason Firefox 3.6 for Windows isn't issuing a right-click event, but Chrome and IE do. Here's some test code. And apart from that why are such expressions not advised anyhow?

• Jqm is not a function

  Hi all, I'm having some trouble with Jquery and JqModal, and I hope you are able to help, since I've been struggling for hours.. Having a single button element with an onclick action running my method "test" (shown below): $('#picture_form').jqm({ajax: '/test.php'}); $('#picture_form').jqmShow(); This will load the ajax content of test.php into my div element picture_form, shown using JqModal as its supposed to! Though when I close this window, and re-clicks the button I'm getting the error: $("#picture_form").jqm is not a function. As a solution I've tried to use the JqModal trigger function, and this leaves me able to open and close the JqModal windows as many times as I want to. Sadly I can only call the 'trigger' using test environment, in my production code I have to open the JqModal window using a function.. Does anyone have a clue why this 'bug' appears when calling the opening when using a function? Thanks in advance

  Hello, I'm a bit confused about Javascript undefined & null. Firstly what does if (!testvar) actually do? Does it test for undefined and null or just undefined? Secondly, once a variable is defined can I clear it back to undefined (therefore deleting the variable). • How to organize integrity tests and code unit tests?

  I have several files with code testing code (which uses a "unittest" class). Later I found it would be nice to test database integrity also. I put this into a separate directory tree. (Things like the keys have correct format, parent and child nodes are pointing correctly and such.) I use the same unittest class for the integrity tests. Now I wonder if it makes really sense to keep this separate. To test the integrity of data I often duplicate parts of code that I use to test the code that handles the data. But it is not the same. The code tests use test databases (that get deleted after each test) and the integrity tests connect to the live data and analyze it. The integrity tests I want to call from cron and send an alarm if something happens in the live database. How would you handle that? Are there standards for such a setup? What is your experience? My tendency is to put everything in the same file, which would result in the code tests also being executed by the cron on the production environment.

• how to set breakpoint on function in a shared library which has not been loaded in gdb

  Hi, I have a shared library libtest.so which will be loaded into the the main program using dlopen. Function test() reside in libtest.so and will be called in the main program through dlsym. Is there any way I could set up a break point on test? Please note that the main programm has not been linked to libtest.so during linking time. Otherwise , I should be able to set the break point although it is a pending action. In my case, when I do b test, gdb will tell me Function "test" not defined.

  I am working on a system that uses Azure Table Storage. In other systems (e.g., SQL, File based, etc), I can write a fake that allows me to test my data persistence logic. However, I can't see an easy way to create a fake for the Azure Table Service. I could create a new IIS project that behaves the same way, but that isn't a good way to write a unit test, it is more of an integration test.   The fundamental question is how do I create a unit test that needs to call a method, wait for an event to happen on the tested class and then call another method (the one that we actually want to test)? Here's the scenario if you have time to read further: I'm developing an application that has to control a piece of hardware. In order to avoid dependency from hardware availability, when I create my object I specify that we are running in test mode. When that happens, the class that is being tested creates the appropriate driver hierarchy (in this case a thin mock layer of hardware drivers). Imagine that the class in question is an Elevator and I want to test the method that gives me the floor number that the elevator is. According to the documentation, that should be the expression #rx"(?!\\.js$)", but it doesn't seem to work. • VSTS 2008 Load testing, Is it any good?

  I have already spent couple of weeks trying to use this tool to generate some webtest and load test. But every day it throws a weird problem for which I do not find anything in document. examples: Hidden variables (_lastfocus) not found in the context error. Today, all of sudden it is now refusing to run some of the webtest which are part of the test mix in my load test run (is working fine with another load test). Are enterprise level, expensive tools are only good? (like loadrunner, silkperformer etc).
