• How can I add color highlighting for PHP functions?

  I've recently begun using Notepad++, and have found a part of its styling functionality that confuses me. I'm currently attempting to color all of PHP's defined functions (such as count(), strlen(), etc.). In the Settings-Style Configurator, you cannot add a new style for such a function list. Instead, I have begun editing the stylers.xml and langs.xml. To add the new coloring, in langs.xml, I've modified the php section to the following: <Language name="php" ext="php php3 phtml" commentLine="//" commentStart="/*" commentEnd="*/"> <Keywords name="instre1">[default keywords]</Keywords> <Keywords name="instre2">[my function list]</Keywords> </Language> The [default keywords] and [my function list] are replaced with wordlists. When I restart Notepad++ and go into the Settings-Style Configurator section, under the php language, the FUNCTIONS style exists. I can change the style's color, and can see the entire keyword list under 'Default Keywords'. However, it is not changing the coloring of the words in my code. When I edit the WORD style, which contains stuff like 'if', 'and', and 'true', things change accordingly in my code. Any ideas on how to make this work?

• Editing the FTP Root page

  We have an ancient FTP server that runs Server 2000 and when our users use IE to login they are Presented with the following error: To view this FTP site in Windows Explorer, click Page, and then click Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer. The problem is with the upgrade to IE 7 "Page" has been replaced by "View". Does anyone know a way to get into the default page and edit its settings to update it?

• VPN connection sharing for Ubuntu guest

  I have Ubuntu 10.04 guest on Windows XP host. I need to use a specific VPN software that works only on Windows. How should I configure virtualbox/guest so that the VPN connection would be visible on guest? I already tried NAT and bridged network settings. With both of these options I get only normal internet connection to work, but sites requiring VPN don't work on guest, only on host.

• I have two 'WsusContent' folders. One has about 55gb of files in it. How do I clear it out?

  I ran the WSUS cleanup wizard in the WSUS MMC snap-in but this made no difference. I think the files are associated with System Center Essentials because they are in a folder called "data\SCE2007\WsusContent" I've looked for a similar cleanup wizard in System Center Essentials but can't find one. Is there a way to clear these files out that doesn't cause issues for SCE or anything else? FYI I've got both SCE and standalone WSUS settings already set to minimize the amount of updates downloaded from Microsoft to only those that are needed.

• Creating zoom-pan video from a picture in Linux

  I would like to make a six second video using six images. Each second is sliding over one image from its top to its botom. Or some other motion effect – I would like to try several. I tried kdenlive Imagination Videoporama PhotoFilmStrip The first one has not enough settings (don't remember what exactly) and all those have rather poor quality – the resized picture is very "aliased" (like no quadratic filter was applied during resizing).

• Differences between how OS X Snow Leopard and Lion interface with a proxy?

  We have a proxy at school, which requires a login/password, and blocks a certain number of sites that aren't "school related" (facebook, youtube, etc.) While I'm able to get through to most things, people who've upgraded to Lion can't get through to anything, even though I've replicated my proxy/network settings on their machines. Is it possible that the difference in OS versions is causing this? I have Snow Leopard, they have Lion.

• Acer Aspire 5315 Boot order doesn't show CD-ROM

  Hi, I have an ACER ASPIRE 5315 laptop. I want use the recovery disk but, the boot manager does not show the CD-ROM bootable option. In the BIOS settings the I set the boot priority to USB CD-ROM first and then the harddrive. But its not working. When I press F12 the boot manager doesnot show the USB CD-ROM device. Please assist. • VMware Fusion disk size

  I have a Windows XP x64 install in VMware Fusion. The amount of space that the VM reports as used (C:) is ~20GB. However, the amount of space the VM is taking up on my disk is 30GB. Why the inconsistency? I do not have autoprotect enabled, nor do I have any snapshots I'm aware of. I have defragmented the drive and used Drive Cleanup from the VMware settings.

• Excel changing decimal places on number cells when I edit the cell's formula

  I have a worksheet with thousands of number cells, all formatted "Number, 3 decimal places, use 1000 Separator ()". Starting a few days ago, if I edit a formula in any of these cells to reference another cell, Excel will change the decimal places to 14. For example, "=C$53^$B$4" = "=C$53^$B$10" will cause this. I am not aware of any settings being changed. Any ideas why this is happening and how to fix this?

• Setting charging limit on MBP?

  Is it possible to tweak settings so that the battery will only charge up to 90% -95% and then use power adapter to run ? A friend told me he was able to set such limits on his non-mac PC so I was hoping there would be a way to do it. From reading I have done online it appears this is better than having a 100% battery most of the time. I have an MBP 13" 2012 running latest version of OSX ML(10.8.2).

• Unable to change keyboard shortcut

  I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 with KDE. I'm trying to setup my desktops with shortcuts alt+1 for desktop 1 and alt+2 for desktop 2 etc. The problem is that Page Settings refuses to change to the desired shortcut and gives no message as to why. When I press the alt key I see "Alt+" appear in the the box but when I add 1 it reverts back to "Input". Why won't KDE let me change the keyboard shortcut and what can I do to solve the problem?

• Best software to convert video to a different aspect ratio for various screensizes

  I sometimes get .mp4 and other video formats whose aspect ratio is clearly off What apps do you use to reconvert such videos to an aspect ratio better suited to to fit either a regular desktop or LCD screen size? Hopefully with little or no loss of audio/video quality Any instructions on best settings to use would be very welcome. I have so far mostly used vlc which came off with less-than-ideal results. • Problem with unpacking zip archive with UTF-8 file names in OS X if zip was made in Windows

  I have packed my files in Windows 7 using Total Commander asking to use UTF-8 for file names. Then I tried to unpack my files in OS X, but Cyrillic names were messed. I have tried most programs -- none has helped me, so I had to use Parallels with Windows and Total Commander to get what I want. Is there any other way to do it? Is it a fault of Total Commander or I need to tune OS X settings?

However I'm finding that .php files aren't brows-able, unless I don't use php tags. I know very little about the clients server at this point, but I have checked for a .htaccess file and not found one. What else can I do to determine if php is supported? This seems to be resolved.

• Easy management of multiple connections

  Hi, on a Windows 7 machine I need to switch back and forth two connections: the LAN connection (that works behind a proxy) and a wireless connection via a USB modem. This requires every time to activate / deactivate two connections in the manager and switch on / off the LAN settings. I don't think there is some way to keep two connections alive and specify which one to use based on the program, but my question is: is there a simple little utility that makes switching the connection one-click easy and fast? I’ve found tons of tutorials on the web explaining how to create wmv’s from vob files using FFMpeg, but every combination of settings that I have tried has resulted in very poor video quality. I’ve also tried various video conmversion tools, but everything seems to result in poor video quality, or audio that is out of sync with the picture. Please help!

• Change Logon DPI setting in Windows 8.1

  I love how M$ keeps making decisions for me about how I want my desktop to look. Now they have added per-user dpi settings. The problem this has created is that there is no adjustable dpi setting for the Lock/Logon screen. Let me explain. you can change the dpi setting to be the same across all displays and this does affect the icons and font on the lock/logon screen. However it does not affect any app/program that can run on the lock/logon screen. Ex. I use a 44" flat screen tv for my monitor on my desktop. Big enough for me to sit in my recliner and use my comp. But I don't have a wireless keyboard. And it sucks having the wire from the keyboard running across the floor. Plus I really don't want to keep a keyboard next to me. So I use the on screen keyboard for logging in and quick typing (search, web address, etc.) So the problem is that with the new dpi setup my on screen keyboard takes up nearly half the screen. Does M$ think we are all blind? Oh no I remember they think desktops should look like tablets and phones. I tried looking through the registry to see if I could find a setting for it. In the key HKEY_USERS.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop there is a string value named "LogicalDPIOverride" with a value of -1. I have a feeling this is where I can fix the issue. I tried changing the value to 0 and to 1 with no change in the result. Instead I noticed that after logging out and back in the -1 value was back in the registry. So now M$ has also added a way for us to not be able to change a setting in the registry. They are making it harder and harder for us power users to be able to do anything with the settings in windows. Soon we will all have the same exact Windows with absolutely no customization. ok sorry for the quick rant. The real question here is. How can I change this defualt dpi crap? Can I use the LogPixels string that worked for dpi in Windows 7? The built-in ACL editor (Advanced Security Settings dialog) is adequate, but its limitations are frustrating, particularly that it cannot be resized and you cannot look at the list of existing entries at the same time as you are adding a new entry. Is there an improved ACL editor that can be downloaded to supplement the default one?
