  • HP Smart Array p400i with Intel X25-M 160 SSD

    I have a pair of x25-M 160 Intel SSD's in an HP DL360 G5 with a p400i Smart Array running 512 BBWC. The disk performance I am getting on this box and another identical one does not come close to matching the same two drives running through a cheap 3ware RAID card. Any idea? I have played with the cache settings, but nothing allows me to get the same results. It seems like the Smart Array controller is the bottleneck.

    We have an ancient FTP server that runs Server 2000 and when our users use IE to login they are Presented with the following error: To view this FTP site in Windows Explorer, click Page, and then click Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer. The problem is with the upgrade to IE 7 "Page" has been replaced by "View". Does anyone know a way to get into the default page and edit its settings to update it?

    I have Ubuntu 10.04 guest on Windows XP host. I need to use a specific VPN software that works only on Windows. How should I configure virtualbox/guest so that the VPN connection would be visible on guest? I already tried NAT and bridged network settings. With both of these options I get only normal internet connection to work, but sites requiring VPN don't work on guest, only on host.

I tried kdenlive Imagination Videoporama PhotoFilmStrip The first one has not enough settings (don't remember what exactly) and all those have rather poor quality – the resized picture is very "aliased" (like no quadratic filter was applied during resizing).

  • Differences between how OS X Snow Leopard and Lion interface with a proxy?

    We have a proxy at school, which requires a login/password, and blocks a certain number of sites that aren't "school related" (facebook, youtube, etc.) While I'm able to get through to most things, people who've upgraded to Lion can't get through to anything, even though I've replicated my proxy/network settings on their machines. Is it possible that the difference in OS versions is causing this? I have Snow Leopard, they have Lion.

  • Excel changing decimal places on number cells when I edit the cell's formula

    I have a worksheet with thousands of number cells, all formatted "Number, 3 decimal places, use 1000 Separator ()". Starting a few days ago, if I edit a formula in any of these cells to reference another cell, Excel will change the decimal places to 14. For example, "=C$53^$B$4" = "=C$53^$B$10" will cause this. I am not aware of any settings being changed. Any ideas why this is happening and how to fix this?

    I've setup TomatoVPN using these settings on the server: TAP UDP 1194 Client address pool 10.10.9.1 -10.10.9.254 LAN clients are configured with 10.10.10.x I can connect from a remote client, but pinging anything in the 10.10.10.x results in a "Destination Host Unreachable" error. Here's my client configuration script: remote x.x.x.x 1194 client dev tap0 proto udp resolv-retry infinite nobind persist-key persist-tun float ca ca.crt cert client1.crt key client1.key ns-cert-type server Any suggestions as how I can make this properly bridge the two networks?

  • VMware Fusion disk size

    I have a Windows XP x64 install in VMware Fusion. The amount of space that the VM reports as used (C:) is ~20GB. However, the amount of space the VM is taking up on my disk is 30GB. Why the inconsistency? I do not have autoprotect enabled, nor do I have any snapshots I'm aware of. I have defragmented the drive and used Drive Cleanup from the VMware settings.

    Hi, I have an ACER ASPIRE 5315 laptop. I want use the recovery disk but, the boot manager does not show the CD-ROM bootable option. In the BIOS settings the I set the boot priority to USB CD-ROM first and then the harddrive. But its not working. When I press F12 the boot manager doesnot show the USB CD-ROM device. Please assist.   • Setting charging limit on MBP?

    Is it possible to tweak settings so that the battery will only charge up to 90% -95% and then use power adapter to run ? A friend told me he was able to set such limits on his non-mac PC so I was hoping there would be a way to do it. From reading I have done online it appears this is better than having a 100% battery most of the time. I have an MBP 13" 2012 running latest version of OSX ML(10.8.2).

  • Unable to change keyboard shortcut

    I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 with KDE. I'm trying to setup my desktops with shortcuts alt+1 for desktop 1 and alt+2 for desktop 2 etc. The problem is that Page Settings refuses to change to the desired shortcut and gives no message as to why. When I press the alt key I see "Alt+" appear in the the box but when I add 1 it reverts back to "Input". Why won't KDE let me change the keyboard shortcut and what can I do to solve the problem?

  • Best software to convert video to a different aspect ratio for various screensizes

    I sometimes get .mp4 and other video formats whose aspect ratio is clearly off What apps do you use to reconvert such videos to an aspect ratio better suited to to fit either a regular desktop or LCD screen size? Hopefully with little or no loss of audio/video quality Any instructions on best settings to use would be very welcome. I have so far mostly used vlc which came off with less-than-ideal results.   • Problem with unpacking zip archive with UTF-8 file names in OS X if zip was made in Windows

    I have packed my files in Windows 7 using Total Commander asking to use UTF-8 for file names. Then I tried to unpack my files in OS X, but Cyrillic names were messed. I have tried most programs -- none has helped me, so I had to use Parallels with Windows and Total Commander to get what I want. Is there any other way to do it? Is it a fault of Total Commander or I need to tune OS X settings?

  • Change Logon DPI setting in Windows 8.1

    I love how M$ keeps making decisions for me about how I want my desktop to look. Now they have added per-user dpi settings. The problem this has created is that there is no adjustable dpi setting for the Lock/Logon screen. Let me explain. you can change the dpi setting to be the same across all displays and this does affect the icons and font on the lock/logon screen. However it does not affect any app/program that can run on the lock/logon screen. Ex. I use a 44" flat screen tv for my monitor on my desktop. Big enough for me to sit in my recliner and use my comp. But I don't have a wireless keyboard. And it sucks having the wire from the keyboard running across the floor. Plus I really don't want to keep a keyboard next to me. So I use the on screen keyboard for logging in and quick typing (search, web address, etc.) So the problem is that with the new dpi setup my on screen keyboard takes up nearly half the screen. Does M$ think we are all blind? Oh no I remember they think desktops should look like tablets and phones. I tried looking through the registry to see if I could find a setting for it. In the key HKEY_USERS.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop there is a string value named "LogicalDPIOverride" with a value of -1. I have a feeling this is where I can fix the issue. I tried changing the value to 0 and to 1 with no change in the result. Instead I noticed that after logging out and back in the -1 value was back in the registry. So now M$ has also added a way for us to not be able to change a setting in the registry. They are making it harder and harder for us power users to be able to do anything with the settings in windows. Soon we will all have the same exact Windows with absolutely no customization. ok sorry for the quick rant. The real question here is. How can I change this defualt dpi crap? Can I use the LogPixels string that worked for dpi in Windows 7?   • HTML files browsable but PHP ones aren't

    Hello I'm checking the ftp settings a client has sent me. I can create, edit and upload/download .html files fine. However I'm finding that .php files aren't brows-able, unless I don't use php tags. I know very little about the clients server at this point, but I have checked for a .htaccess file and not found one. What else can I do to determine if php is supported? This seems to be resolved.

    What is the best method to rip/encode a standard definition DVD, to be streamed to a Xbox360 from a Vista Media Center pc (preferably using free software). I’ve found tons of tutorials on the web explaining how to create wmv’s from vob files using FFMpeg, but every combination of settings that I have tried has resulted in very poor video quality. I’ve also tried various video conmversion tools, but everything seems to result in poor video quality, or audio that is out of sync with the picture. Please help!

    Recently I have been scanning some of my hand written notes. Each page ends up as a .bmp file (300 DPI A4). I wish to combine/compress these too a DJVU file for easy reading. Hence, Does anyone know of any programs/utilities for OS X/Linux that can do this. If so, what settings can be considered optimal (lined paper, some coloured ink used). Are there any practical means of tagging pages/regions (to create an outline).

  • Watching Netflix through a VPN

    Recently I bought a VPS from DigitalOcean. I setup a PPTP VPN so I could watch us Netflix content from outside the US. Now that I have it setup and all my traffic is going through the VPN, Netflix is still showing my home country content. Pandora is working, and when I search my IP it shows im in NY, so I guess traffic is being routed correctly. I have also tried to delete flash settings and cookies from browser. Any ideas on what could be happening?

The built-in ACL editor (Advanced Security Settings dialog) is adequate, but its limitations are frustrating, particularly that it cannot be resized and you cannot look at the list of existing entries at the same time as you are adding a new entry. Is there an improved ACL editor that can be downloaded to supplement the default one?

  • Easy management of multiple connections

    Hi, on a Windows 7 machine I need to switch back and forth two connections: the LAN connection (that works behind a proxy) and a wireless connection via a USB modem. This requires every time to activate / deactivate two connections in the manager and switch on / off the LAN settings. I don't think there is some way to keep two connections alive and specify which one to use based on the program, but my question is: is there a simple little utility that makes switching the connection one-click easy and fast? Thanks
