• Opening images sorted by modification date/size/type/etc.

  Suppose I have a folder with pictures in them. If I sort them by name once I open one with Image Viewer and navigate to the others the order is respected. But if I sort my files by modification date, for example, I can't do that. Basically, the default Image Viewer only lets you navigate images by name. According to this post on the ubuntuforums this has been an issue since 2007! Is there a good/easy way to fix it? Seems like such a trivial thing to me.

  After running with a somewhat disconnected set of tools (vs 2008, Ontime, sharepoint 2007) for managing our projects we decided to make the move to Team Foundation Server 2010.  With limited coverage of the product available online i went in search of a book and found this… View this book on the Wrox website I must point out that i have only read 10 of the 26 chapters so far, mainly the ones that cover source code control, work item tracking and database projects.  This enables our dev team to get familiar with it before switching project management over at a future date. Needless to say i am very impressed with the detail it provides, answering pretty much every question i had about TFS so far.  I'm looking forward to digging into the sections on testing, code analysis and architecture. Highly recommended.

This is your chance to meet the core members of engineering, product management, executive management, and rest of the team. This is your (yet another) chance to voice your opinion and be heard. There will be community updates, customer testimonials, unconference, and fun activities too. Stay tuned for more details. Here are some pictures from the yesteryears: A conference badge will be required to attend the community event but the party will be open to all friends of GlassFish.   Recently I came upon a community event called GiveCamp. GiveCamp is a weekend-long event where technology professionals from designers, developers and database administrators to marketers and web strategists donate their time to provide solutions for non-profit organizations. Since its inception in 2007, the GiveCamp program has provided benefits to over 150 charities, with a value of developer and designer time exceeding $1,000,000 in services! Coming from a very rural part of the country where there is a huge opportunity for charity events like this, it got me wondering. Are there other large movements like GiveCamp that are out there? GiveCamp is sponsored by Microsoft, so of course most are run through .NET user groups. Are there other flavors of it? Different types? Java/Python/other open source charity movements? • Lightweight PHP/HTML/CSS editor with code browser

  I'm looking for a freeware editor which has; syntax highlighting and a code browser (or code suggestions/hints). Preferably freeware license! I've tried out quite a few editors, but a lot of them are unfortunately very resource heavy and provides a lot more functions than I ever needed. So far, there's two editors that I really like, and is lightweight: jEdit and Notepad++. Although, unfortunately... Notepad++ doesn't have code browser support for both control structures and functions for PHP. Also, there's no code browser for HTML... I really liked jEdit as well, but there doesn't seem to be a code browser for it. Except for maybe Completion, but it's a bothersome plugin, and doesn't show the code browser unless you type something in and press CTRL+B. • Evolution - exchange-connector, Rackspace global catalog server

  I'm (trying to) switch to Ubuntu from Windows XP on my work laptop. Unfortunately, one of the dealbreakers is that I need full Exchange contact/calendar syncing. Our email is hosted by Rackspace (owa.mailseat.com). We login using the usernames of the format [email protected]. I'm trying to set up Evolution to use this account, using exchange-connector-setup-2.32. The first step, entering the OWA URL, usename and password works, and progresses to step 2, where I need to enter a Global Catalog server. I have no idea what to enter here. Everything fails. My questions are - What is the "Global Catalog server" - can I enter/run some dummy server here? - If its necessary, where can I get the information from this? I have a Windows XP machine synced up using Outlook 2007, so if I need to gather any information from that setup I can.

  Completing my Computing A-level in 2003 and getting a degree in Computing in 2007, and learning my trade in a company with a lot of SQL usage, I was brought up on the idea of Relational Databases being used for storage. So, despite being relatively new to development, I was taken-aback to read a comment (on Is LinqPad site quote "Tired of querying in antiquated SQL?" accurate? ) that said: [Some devs] despise [SQL] and think that it and RDBMS are a fad Obviously, a competent dev will use the right tool for the right job and won't create a relational database when e.g. flat file or another solution for storage is appropriate, but RDBMs are useful in a massive number of circumstances, so how could they be considered a fad?

  I have some pages on my website www.acethem.com which are having 301 redirection but they are not actually 301 redirects. e.g. www.acethem.com/pastpapers/by-year/2007/ is seen as a 301 redirection to www.acethem.com/pastpapers/by-year by google (I am using "Fetch as google" in webmaster tools. Now more weird: My paginated pages with page = 10 are all redirected to homepage: http://www.acethem.com/pastpapers/o-level/chemistry/page/10/ while http://www.acethem.com/pastpapers/o-level/chemistry/page/9/ is working properly in google crawler. I was not obsessed with the statistics before but this was indeed an interesting moment for me as I was blogging for myself and did not realize that so many people are reading my blog. In year 2006 there were not many bloggers so blogging was new to me as well. Version 1: Above script was improved to get more details about the database Version 2: This version of the script will include pretty much have all the backup related information in a single script. Three years ago I created a very small survey and the results which I have received are very interesting. • National Give Camp Weekend - January 14-16, 2011

  What is a Give Camp?  I get asked this question constantly in the SharePoint Community.  About 3 years ago there was an event called "We Are Microsoft" in Dallas, TX.  A lady named, Toi Wright, gathered up a bunch of charities and gathered up a bunch of IT Professionals in the community.  They met for an entire weekend devising better ways to help these charities with 3 days projects.  None of these charities had in house IT staff or they were lacking.  The time these projects would save would help out other people in the long run.  The first give camp was really popular that a couple guys from Kansas City decided to come up with a give camp in the Kansas City regiona.  The event was called Coders 4 Charity.  I read Jeff Julian's post on the "We Are Microsoft" event that it inspired me to get involved.  i showed up to this event and we were split into teams.  On that team I met a couple really awsome guys: Blake Theiss, Lee Brandt, Tim Wright, and Joe Loux.  We created a SharePoint site for a boyscout troup.  It was my first exposure to Silverlight 1.1.  I had so much fun that I attended the event the next year and the St. Louis Coders 4 Charity.  Last year in 2010 when I moved i searched high and low.  Sure enough they had an event in Philadelphia.  I helped out with two SharePoint Projects for a team of firefighters and another charity.  This year there are a series of give camps around the U.S.  They have consolidated most of the give camps.  The first ever New York City Give Camp is on National Give Camp Day.  If you guys are interested I see there is a give camp in Philadelphia, St. Louis, Northwest Arkansas, Seattle, Atlanta, Houston, and more...Here is a link to the site I would definitely encourage you to get involved: http://givecamp.org/national-givecamp/.  Also, if you feel like it's only developer focused that's entirely wrong.  They need DBAs, Project Leads, Architects, and many other roles fulfilled aside from development.  It is a great experience to meet good people and help out a charity doing what we all love to do.  I strongle encourage getting involved in a give camp.  if you are coming to the NYC Give Camp I would love to meet you.  i will be there on Saturday somewhere in the morning until around dinner time.
