  • What is the difference between Row Level Security and RPD security?

    - by Jeffrey McDaniel
Row level security (RLS) is a feature of Oracle Enterprise Edition database. RLS enforces security policies on the database level. This means any query executed against the database will respect the specific security applied through these policies. For P6 Reporting Database, these policies are applied during the ETL process. This gives database users the ability to access data with security enforcement even outside of the Oracle Business Intelligence application. RLS is a new feature of P6 Reporting Database starting in version 3.0. This allows for maximum security enforcement outside of the ETL and inside of Oracle Business Intelligence (Analysis and Dashboards). Policies are defined against the STAR tables based on Primavera Project and Resource security. RLS is the security method of Oracle Enterprise Edition customers. See previous blogs and P6 Reporting Database Installation and Configuration guide for more on security specifics. To allow the use of Oracle Standard Edition database for those with a small database (as defined in the P6 Reporting Database Sizing and Planning guide) an RPD with non-RLS is also available. RPD security is enforced by adding specific criteria to the physical and business layers of the RPD for those tables that contain projects and resources, and those fields that are cost fields vs. non cost fields. With the RPD security method Oracle Business Intelligence enforces security. RLS security is the default security method. Additional steps are required at installation and ETL run time for those Oracle Standard Edition customers who use RPD security. The RPD method of security enforcement existed from P6 Reporting Database 2.0/P6 Analytics 1.0 up until RLS became available in P6 Reporting Database 3.0\P6 Analytics 2.0.

  • Getting Internal Name of a Share Point List Fields

    - by Gino Abraham
Over the last 2 weeks i was developing a tool to migrate Lotus notes data base to Share point. The mapping between Lotus notes schema and share point list schema was done manually in an xml file for out tool. To map the columns we wanted internal names of each field. There are quite a few ways to achieve this, have explained few below. If you want internal names for one or 2 columns you can do so by navigating to the list setting and clicking on the column name. Once you are in column's details, you can check the query string of the page. The last item in the query string would be field's internal. Replace all "%5f" with '_' will give you the field internal name. In my case there were more than 80 columns. I used power shell to get the list of columns with details. Open windows Powershell and paste the following script after modifying the url and list name. [System.Reflection.Assembly]::LoadWithPartialName("Microsoft.SharePoint") $site = new-object Microsoft.SharePoint.SPSite(http://yousitecolurl) $web = $site.OpenWeb() $list = $web.Lists["yourlist name"] $list.Fields | Format-Table Title, InternalName, TypeAsString I also found a tool in Codeplex.com which can generate a wrapper class for a list. The wrapper class will give you the guid and internal name for all fields in the list.  You can download the tool from http://imtech.codeplex.com/ Just enter the url in the text box and hit open. All the site content will be listed at the left hand side, expand the list, right click and select generate wrapper class.

  • ANTS Performance Profiler 7.0 has been released!

    - by Michaela Murray
Please join me in welcoming ANTS Performance Profiler 7 to the world of .NET. ANTS Performance Profiler is a .NET code profiling tool. It lets you identify performance bottlenecks within minutes and therefore enables you to optimize your application performance. Version 7.0 includes integrated decompilation: when profiling methods and assemblies with no source code file, you can generate source code right from the profiler interface. You can then browse and navigate this automatically generated source as if it was your own. If you have an assembly's PDB file but no source, integrated decompilation even lets you view line-level timings for each method, pinpointing the exact cause of performance bottlenecks. Integrated decompilation is powered by .NET Reflector, but you don't need Reflector installed to use the functionality. Watch this video to see it in action. Also new in ANTS Performance Profiler 7.0: · Full support for SharePoint 2010 - No need to manually configure profiling for the latest version of SharePoint · Full support for IIS Express · Azure and Amazon EC2 support, enabling you to profile in the cloud Please click here, for more details about the ANTS Performance Profiler 7.0.

IT executives taking lead role with both private and public cloud projects: survey | Joe McKendrick "The survey, conducted among members of the Independent Oracle Users Group, found that both private and public cloud adoption are up—30% of respondents report having limited-to-large-scale private clouds, up from 24% only a year ago. • The Oracle VM Hall of Fame

    - by Kristin Rose
“Take me out to the ball game, take me out to the crowd. Buy me a new Oracle VM, I want my competition to be history!”...Yes, baseball is in full swing, and as we make our way to the closing of the quarter, Oracle is ready to “knock it out of the park” with its newly updated release of Oracle VM 3.1. This home run of a server virtualization solution will let you deploy software faster, as it intelligently manages your entire infrastructure, from application to disk. As if that wasn’t enough, the competition can’t even get on base! Have a look at the final score below: Partners will be hitting grand slams left and right because management tools, application templates and single source support, have all teamed up to create one heck of a curve ball for the competition, but more importantly, an absolute first draft pick for our partners. With no license cost and an affordable enterprise support cost, crowds have gathered to see this ‘All Star’ play some hard ball. Watch as Jeff Doolan, Sr. Director of Linux and Virtualization Channel Sales at Oracle, goes into more depth on how Oracle VM is a real game changer and eliminates the competition.Adding to the line-up are two key components of Oracle VM 3.1: Enhanced Ease-of-use: The new GUI design is engineered for faster execution of workflow and to maximize ease of use and reduce deployment time. Administrators have more time to spend at the ball park or focus on the business.New Oracle VM Templates: such as the Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1.3; Oracle PeopleSoft FSCM 9.1; Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c; Oracle Linux 5.8; Oracle Linux 6.1; Oracle Solaris 11 – which add to the existing 100+ existing templates that are ready for download. Oracle VM Templates are pre-configured as an entire stack including OS and application fully tested, production ready and certified from Oracle. For more information on Oracle newest player, Oracle VM 3.1, read this press release or visit our technology information page. • Experience vs. versatility

    - by Florin Bombeanu
Let's say a .NET programmer works at a company which provides software on demand, not as a product. The programmer works in WPF for a period of time and he/she invests lots of time in it. He/she get very good at WPF and Windows Forms and desktop development in general. But the company has to provide a web application now, so the developer has to learn MVC or Web Forms. He/she is not experienced in web development so he/she starts investing time in this new technology and in time they get good at it. But this time the company has to provide a Sharepoint solution, and so on. What is more important: Being very very good at a certain technology, Or be as versatile as possible knowing less in each technology but covering a greater area of expertise? Should the programmer keep studying and working in WPF until he/she reaches a guru level or is it a good thing that they had to learn other technologies as well? I agree with those of you who will say that when learning different technologies you will also learn things which are useful no matter the technology you're programming in. But eventually, when the programmer will want to change jobs, will it matter more that he/she knows some WPF, MVC or Sharepoint than the fact that he/she is insanely good at one of them? I would think the second one is more important since most companies are looking for a developer for a certain technology. I don't think there are many companies looking for technical know-it-all people. What do you think?

  • Complex Release Vehicle Management

    - by Sharon
I'm looking into improving our build and release system. We are a .Net/Windows shop, and I don't see any really good tools for Windows for generating the files that are to be dropped in patch or hotfix. We are currently using TFSBuild 2010 with Windows Workflows for our continuous integration builds as well as our daily full build which includes an Installshield package for deployment. What is a good way of generating the list of files to be included in a "patch" style release, where one does not redistribute all the files, but only those necessary to accomplish the necessary changes? Are there any open source tools that work well for this, or do teams usually roll their own? I have considered using Beyond Compare but I would prefer something open source. The file "patch" creation must be 100% automatable. Which release vehicles really ought to be patch style? And which releases should replace all system files related to our application? Assume we have a very large amount of resources necessary to maintain. Is there any established material that is trusted within the industry for strategies about this? I realize it is different for "enterprise" rather than with typical websites. I am looking more for "enterprise" strategies due to our product distribution style. tl;dr Looking for info on how to ship more reliable packages?

  • Java EE 7 JSR Submitted

    - by Tori Wieldt
Java EE 7 has been filed as JSR 342 in the JCP program. This JSR (Java Specification Request) will develop Java EE 7, the next version of the Java Platform, Enterprise Edition. It is an "umbrella JSR" because the specification includes a collection of several other JSRs. The proposal suggests the addition of two new JSRs: Concurrency Utilities for Java EE (JSR-236) and JCache (JSR-107) as well as updates to JPA, JAX-RS, JSF, Servlets, EJB, JSP, EL, JMS, JAX-WS, CDI, Bean Validation, JSR-330, JSR-250, and Java Connector Architecture. There are also two new APIs under discussion: a Java Web Sockets API and a Java JSON API. These are the new JSRs that are currently up for ballot:• JSR 342: Java Platform, Enterprise Edition 7 Specification• JSR 340: Java Servlet 3.1 Specification• JSR 341: Expression Language 3.0• JSR 343: Java Message Service 2.0• JSR 344: JavaServer Faces 2.2All 5 JSRs are now up for Executive Committee voting with ballots closing on 14 March, and slated for inclusion in Java EE  7.  All of these JSRs are also open for Expert Group nominations. Any JCP member can nominate themself to serve on the Expert Groups for these JSRs. Details on how to become a JCP member are on jcp.org. The JCP gives you a chance to have your own work become an official component of the Java platform and to offer suggestions for improving and growing the technology. Either way, everyone in the Java community benefits from your participation. There's a nice discussion about Java EE 7 in this podcast with Java EE spec lead Robert Chinnici and more information in this blog post on the Aquarium. It's exciting to see so much activity currently underway.
