• Using RVM with GVim (Cream): rvm command not found.

  I am trying to move to GVim(cream) as my primary editor on Ubuntu. I am using the wonderful rails.vim, however I also am using RVM. Rvm works fine when doing things in a shell, and the ruby version I would like to use in rails.vim is the version set as default (but not the system version). When I try to run things like :Rgenerate migration migration_name I get: ... Missing Rails 2.3.8 gem. ... If I try: :!rvm use default I get: /bin/bash: rvm: command not found Obviously cream is not using my bash profile. What can I do to remedy this and get it working? Thanks.

• Over-enthusiastic Intellisense in VS2010 - can I tweak it?

  Since I have upgraded from VS2008 to VS2010, I've been having an increasingly infuriating battle with the Intellisense. For example, when specifying CSS styles, when I press Enter to start an new line, Intellisense (appropriately) lists available Styles to me. And if I select color and then type ':', it presents a list of color presets - often helpful. However, if I type in a space (I like them for readability) or if I type '#' to enter RGB values, it selected the default Intellisense selection, in this case inherits. Another example is in an ASP.NET page - say I am concatenating strings, I type myString =, I get an Intellisense pop-up. If I type space or '"' (to enter a literal) or '.' (so select a property or method within a WITH block), the Intellisense selects the first entry in the list. I can dismiss the Intellisense pop-ups with escape but it makes it incredibly slow to code. This behaviour is different to my VS2008 set-up. I can't seem to find any way to configure Intellisense to behave differently... I really only want it to select and Intellisense entry when I type or ... at least, certainly not when I type '"' or ' ' or '.'!

  I am looking to replace a nasty shell script that uses awk to trim down some HTML. • Problems with Date, preparedStatement, JDBC and PostgreSQL

  I Have to get a movie from a PostgreSQL database that matches a given title and release date. title is a character(75) and releaseDate is a date. • What's the shebang in Facebook URLs for?

  I've just noticed that the long, convoluted Facebook URLs that we're used to now look like this: http://www.facebook.com/example.profile#!/pages/Some-Other-Page/123456789012345 As far as I can recall, earlier this year it was just a normal URL-fragment-like string (starting with #), without the exclamation mark. But now it's a shebang (#!), which I've previously only seen in shell scripts and Perl scripts. Does #! now play some special role in URLs, like for a certain Ajax framework or something since Facebook's interface is now largely Ajaxified? Or is it for some other purpose?

• FCGI htaccess handler

  I'm trying to setup django on a shared hosting provider. I followed the instructions on http://helpdesk.bluehost.com/index.php/kb/article/000531 and almost have it working. The problem I'm facing now is that the traffic is properly routed throught the fcgi file, but the file itself shows up as plain text in the browser. • TextMate can't find my RSpec gem in opt (from macports)

  I know I've had this problem before so I'm really frustrated. Btw, I did test with a telnet, but when I enter www.example.org, which I redirected to example.org (without the www), all I can see is an "200 OK", I don't get to see the 301.

• WinForm PDF viewer with programatic search functionality

  We are currently using PDFTron's PDFView WinForm control to view PDF's in a WinForm application. I can load the file and search the file to highlight a certain text value. We have run into an issue where we have expired our trial license period and do not wish to shell out the $900/seat licensing on 15-20 computers. Does anybody know if the ActiveX Adobe Reader control can support the searching functionality programatically? I've tried that and the FoxIt Reader OCX control and neither seem to have this feature exposed (unless it's hidden really well) Does anybody have any suggestions for other freeware/open source viewers, or less-expensive viewers? TIA!

• Composite events in locally scoped regions with Prism (CAL)

  I'm starting to train Prism (CAL) with a small application and faced some problems. I'm creating multiple instances of my MainView, which itself contains some regions, and display them in the Shell. I'm using locally scoped regions to easily handle view injections within my MainView. Currently I'm searching for a way of communication between the views (viewModels) inside the MainView. Composite events could do it, but when I publish those events, they are handled in all instances of my MainView, which I really don't want. Is there a way of raising "locally scoped" composite events like with locally scoped regions? Or may be there's a better way of communicating between views in my case?

  How are you handling the entry of numeric values in WPF applications? Without a NumericUpDown control, I've been using a TextBox and handling its PreviewKeyDown event with the code below, but it's pretty ugly. • Ajax Enabled WCF Service Javascript issue...

  I'm a noob working with Ajax-Enabled WCF Services... Right now I have an AJAX service which calls a different WCF service that is using wsHttpBinding. The WCF wsHttpBinding service lives in a different web app on the same IIS6 server. The AJAX javascript proxy is only created when I enable anonymous access on the app hosting the AJAX service. If I remove anonymous access, IE6 bombs with an 'Undefined' error when call the AJAX proxy. In a nut shell, my AJAX service sends a request back to IIS (same domain/app), and while on the server it sends a WCF service request for data on a different app on the same IIS server. The service returning data is setup with Windows authentication, wsHttpBinding, and security mode is set to message. Any ideas? Both apps have are using windows authentication.

  Hi all : I am preparing for a Linux terminal assessment now, I tried to Google and found most resources are referring to the basic "grep" rather than the more powerful "egrep" -- well, that is at least what the professor said in lecture. I am always working with small samples so performance tuning is a thing too far away. So basically I'd like to know are there any areas where I must switch to egrep to do it in a better way? Is it safe to work with basic "grep" as for now? will there be potential risks? Sorry about my limited knowledge on Linux shell commands, the man page looks like a maze to me and honestly I haven't put much time in understanding all the features both command provide.

• How can I transform XML to invalid XML using XSLT?

  I need to transform a valid XML document to the OFX v1.0.2 format. This format is more or less XML, but it's technically invalid and therefore cannot be parsed as XML. I'm having trouble getting my Xml transformation working because the .Net XslCompiledTransform object insists on interpreting the XSL as an XML document (which is fair enough). If I escape the xml-ish tags using &lt; and &gt, they get removed when I download the file. • Set environment variable for build in hudson

  I am trying to put a maven2 project under continuous integration in hudson. The project uses selenium for some integration testing. Hudson is running on a headless linux. I am using xvfb to start a x server session for selenium. In order to run the tests, I need to export an environment variable named DISPLAY. e.g. export DISPLAY=:99 However, I don't want to set the variable on the box since it would affect all builds. I have tried to do a shell execute using the m2 extra steps plugin but it doesnt work since it is executed in a separate bash file, meaning that environment variables are not persisted. Is there a way to register the environment variable from hudson.

• Need advice on OOP philosophy

  I'm trying to get the wheels turning on a large project in C#. My previous experience is in Delphi, where by default every form was created at applicaton startup and form references where held in (gasp) global variables. So I'm trying to adapt my thinking to a 100% object oriented environment, and my head is spinning just a little. My app will have a large collection of classes Most of these classes will only really need one instance. So I was thinking: static classes. I'm not really sure why, but much of what I've read here says that if my class is going to hold a state, which I take to mean any property values at all, I should use a singleton structure instead. Okay. But there are people out there who for reasons that escape me, think that singletons are evil too. None of these classes is in danger of being used anywhere except in this program. So they could certainly work fine as regular objects (vs singletons or static classes) Then there's the issue of interaction between objects. I'm tempted to create a Global class full of public static properties referencing the single instances of many of these classes. I've also considered just making them properties (static or instance, not sure which) of the MainForm. Then I'd have each of my classes be aware of the MainForm as Owner. Then the various objects could refer to each other as Owner.Object1, Owner.Object2, etc. I fear I'm running out of electronic ink, or at least taxing the patience of anyone kind enough to have stuck with me this long. I hope I have clearly explained my state of utter confusion. I'm just looking for some advice on best practices in my situation. All input is welcome and appreciated.   Hi, Is there any way to get taskbar's battery and phonesignal indicators icons and then draw into a picturebox or something? Why do I need this? I need all screen space available, so all forms are maximized and they cover up the windowsmobile taskbar. But, I have to display information about battery e phone signal strength in just a couple of forms. I know how to get their values (like systeminformation.phonesignalstrength), but what I want is the "current icon", so I don't need to worry about their values. It's just a visual information for the user. In last case, if this is not possible, how to get those icons from windowsmobile shell, so I'll draw them by my self, treating each differente status/values that they assume. (This is what I don't want to do!) Thanks in advance and sorry for my poor english.

• STAThread and Process output capture in c#

  Hi: This is a strange problem I encountered. I have an window application written in c# to do testing. It has a MDI parent form that is hosting a few children forms. One of the forms launch test cripts by creating processes and capture the scripts output to a text box. Another form open serial port and monitoring the status of the device I am working on(like a shell). If I ran both of them together, the output of the script seems only appear in the text box after the test is done. However, If I don't open the serial port form, the output of the script is captured in real time. Does anyone knows what's causing the problem? I notice the onDataReceived even handler for serial port form has a [STAThread] header to it. Will this cause the serial port thread having higher priority than other processes? Thanks in advance.

• jQuery/Ajax with Zend Framework

  I've been tinkering around with Zend-Framework and Jquery for a month or so, and finally started tinkering with them together using ZendX_JQuery. It seems I've ran into something that at first seemed it should be simple, So maybe I'm just missing something here. I have a view along the lines of: $this->ajaxLink( $this->escape($var->title), $this->baseUrl() . '" style="display:none;" ></div>'; Which works correctly, when the link displayed by the code above is clicked it loads the contents returned from /another/action into the domain"id" div. The problem occurs when the view loaded by the above contains an ajaxLink() the ajax link stops working. This can be fixed by adding an option to the ajaxLink() array "inline" = true but what if I need other JQuery views helpers to work when loaded into the page via ajax i.e. dialogContainer() I guess I could simply be asking how to control where zendx jquery helper puts java script. by default it is trying to put all statments in the <head> section in a single <script> tag. I need away around that for views displayed from an ajax call. Does Dojo try and force all php rendered javascript/ajax into the head also? Thanks.

• Oracle SqlPlus Command Line: There's a way to concatenate set options?

  Heya, I need to set up some SET options in Oracle SQLplus command line program each time I use it, such as SET HEADING OFF and the likes to beautify my results. I found that I always have to input each line separately so Set different options and this is becoming annoying since I need to access it many times a day. I found that there's no way to separate different SET commands with semicolumns because it doesn't accept it: SET HEADING OFF; SET LINESIZE 100; returns an error A solution could be adding them to a control script and create a shell alias, but I know control scripts execute and then exit and don't return you control over the command line. So, anybody knows another solution? Or am I missing something?

  We have oracle running on Solaris, and the shell is by default CSH. So the login script set the oracle_home,oracle_sid in csh also. But I don't like csh and want to use bash to do my work. So how to source the csh login script in bash? e.g, the following is what in the .cshrc file. And when use bash, I'd like use these variables. One way is to copy the variables again and use bash command, such as export ORACLE_SID=TEST. But doing so will let us to maintain two copy of the files. And when we change the database name, or upgrade the database, I need to maintian the bash login file seperately.
